There was a glitch in that I had hoped to get the carpet installed before Thanksgiving, but the carpet had to be back ordered which delayed it for a couple of weeks.
Because of trying to get in done in a certain time frame, I signed a 6 month short term loan to get the job done on time, then due to the back order, it got delayed anyway.
This short term loan is a problem, probably going to the Attorney Generals Office about it, it was with GE Capital Retail Bank. The loan was paid in full, check cleared my account on 12/11/2012 and the loan papers were signed 10/27/2012. Clearly paid well before the 6 months interest free time period. I started getting bills for GE Capital Retail Bank for $25 charge, never any explanation, it just showed up. I refuse to pay, 3 weeks ago I got a call form someone demanding $250,no explanation so I assumed it was some type of scam, I could not really understand his English at all. Now GE Capital Retail Bank is calling both work and cell phone at least 6 times a day on each phone and leaving messages twice a day, once on each.
Bottom line, I was pleased overall, impressed with the installers, only hesitancy is with their having to back order the carpet without any warning which delayed the schedule for 2 weeks.
However, I would recommend them as long as you pay cash or have your own financing, DO NOT under any circumstances try to finance through their plans, GE Capital Retail Bank is a rip off and when I checked the BBB, they were listed as A+ but had thousands of complaints against them. Most complaints were related to phone harassment.
The technician told use that our grout was not very dirty so it would be easy to clean. He cleaned the utility room grout by hand (approx. 20 sq.ft.) The kitchen tile he cleaned with an electric floor scrubber and he only spot cleaned the grout in a couple of areas. He did not clean the floor in either bathroom. We had vacuumed both baths before he started and told him that we had done so. We could not tell a difference in the grout after it was cleaned. It still looked dirty to us. He dismissed the idea of sanding the grout when I asked him about it and said I would be able to tell the difference once the grout was dry. He then sealed all floors and told us to avoid walking on them until they were dry, which he said would be about an hour or two at the most. (I keep a 7 month old baby and was not prepared to be out of my kitchen for more than that amount of time.)
It took the remainder of the day and night for the kitchen/utility room floors to dry. The two bathrooms were still wet the following day. The technician had applied way too much sealant to the two bathrooms. It was actually puddled up on the tiles. We had to incur the expense of eating out that night and had to go to our neighbor's house to use a restroom since we were told not to walk on it or that it would ruin the sealant and it would have to be done again. We had no choice but to walk on one of the bathroom floors after 10 p.m. even though it was still not dry.
We called the number for
She called back at 10:00 a.m. asking if the floors had dried. She was told that they had not and that we had used the smaller of the two bathrooms that morning. She thanked us for trying not to walk on them overnight and said that she could get the technician back out that Saturday (work was done on Tuesday). We told her that was not acceptable since we needed our bathrooms and did not have a bathroom to use without walking on wet sealant. She asked to call us back. About 30 minutes later she called back and said that the technician would be out as soon as he finished the job he was on. She said that as far as she was concerned, our job was not finished until we were completely satisfied with the work done. We feel like she tried to make us happy and fix our issue as quickly as possible even though we were sorely inconvenienced overnight.
The technician returned within a couple of hours of the owners phone call. He explained that he had applied too much sealant then he got down on hands and knees with a wet cloth and wiped down the tile in both bathrooms, removing the extra sealant. He then asked us again to not walk on the bathroom floors for an hour or two. He also touched up several spots where the sealant was missing in the kitchen area. When we complained that the floor looked dull, he said that mopping it would make it look better. He gave us a bottle of the grout cleaner and told us how to use it as an added bonus as well as a grout cleaning brush. He recommended a steam cleaner and told us that they give them away to customers and promised that we would get one as soon as they got more in stock. He told us that the owner told him that he was not to leave until we were completely happy with his work.
Weeks later, the grout is darker than it has ever been. Apparently the sealer discolors the grout to a much darker shade making it no longer match our ceramic tile. Also, the tile floor looks dull and lifeless. It is not a high
Overall, We would not do this type of sealer on our floors again. What we wanted was to have our grout cleaned. The sealer was just a bonus. In this instance, the grout cleaning was not accomplished successfully and we ended up inconvenienced for two days with a floor that now looks cloudy and dull all the time.
It can be said that the owner did all she could to make us happy. It just wasn't worth our time once the sealer was put on to try to fix what was done incorrectly in the first place!
Tile on shower floor is unattractive. Shower doors have to be squeegied every time we shower, even though we requested the built-in rainguard. Overall, we ended up settling with what was provided, due to the fact it got too frustrating and we were tired of having people in our house every day. We had to repaint the wall ourselves after 3 attempts by the contractor, even though we suggested how they do it.
The crew themselves were courteous and professional; however, the guidance from the owner was obviously missing. It seems he had a larger job to do and our job was relegated to his partner -- and since they didn't communicate very well, we had to step in and make several corrections. In addition, we specifically requested that no mess be made in our lawn, and sure enough, the crew left marble pieces and concrete in our lawn, which we had to clean up. They poured paint/paint thinner in the lawn as well, which caused one of our underground pipes to disintegrate. This caused a water leak which we also had to fix.
Owner and his partner were very pleasant and likeable - they even went out their way for us a couple of times. They just need to get organized, gain more experience and pay attention to detail.
