"The doors were fixed. The vinyl shutter was installed upside down initally, but corrected, When they cleaned the gutters, they broke branches of trees close to" the roof rather than cutting them with a pruning shears. The front door was a major issue. I have a 1950s home that is not built with newer construction practices and standards. They gave me a price of $300 for installing a new door, but it was not straight forward. The new door did not slide in easily. They had to re-frame the door to get it installed. Then they needed to install new molding. They used modeling on most of the door but there is a piece of about a foot that they just used some plain board. Then, the existing storm door didn't fit after the re-framing and they told me I needed a new storm door and they would take responsibility for installing it. But, they would need to come back to finish it and put a second coat of paint on the new front door. I paid $500 rather than $300 originally quoted (plus I have to buy a new storm door) $200) because the job was more complicated and that seemed fair. Now, after 1 full month of calling, arranging appointments and having them cancel, sometimes when they are an hour or more late to the appointment, the job is still unfinished, I bought the new storm door they said I needed, In my last conversation with one of the
brothers, they told me that they don't think that the can install a storm door on my older home. I asked them to come at look at it (it had been a month after all) and consider, but they ignored my request to come and talk it out and disregarded statements that I would share my disappointments. i am out $100's more than I intended to spend on this work.

"Everything went great. Rep was very professional and knowledgeable. There was a $55 service charge but that was deducted from the cost of the repair. Not all repair" places do that.. The service rep also took a Microwave back to the shop so the Microwave specialist did not have to come to my house to look at it. He brought it back when he came back with the part for the refrigerator. They determined that the Microwave would be too costly to repair and to my surprise they did not charge me to look at it. Was really happy about that.

If the ducts are venting through a window I'm assuming the duct work is all easily accessible.  Lowe's and Home Depot sell a cleaning kit that uses an electric drill to spin the brush as it goes through the ductwork.  I've found it to work quite well and you can do it yourself.  It may take a few passes the first time to get everything out if it has been a while since it was last cleaned.  Just make sure you get all of the loose lint out after running the brush through from both ends and you're good to go.  Please note that if the line is not hard but rather a flex duct line you can easily puncture a whole in it with this kit and will do better to clean it by hand.

As stated above, it can vary between companies.

Typically just an inspection implies you do not have a contract or agreement that may include discounts or free repairs.

With our company you would get the annual maintenace service that you should do every year, and if repairs are needed, they are extra, but you aviod paying a "service call charge" that would be related to most repairs, because you are paying for the "inspection" and we are already on site.

Inspections are often discounted in the slow seasons, and can usually be found advertised , at reduced prices , on Angie's List.

So consider Angie's List and find the best of the best in HVAC contractors!

Since you asked this question over a year ago, I'm pretty sure you've already made your decision but I'd like to offer you some advice.  You mentioned your husband vacuumed the coils and it worked for a couple more weeks.  Chances are the condenser coils were very dirty when he did this.  When refrigerator condenser coils are dirty, the compressor overheats and heat will cause a compressor to fail prematurely.  You should vacuum or blow out your condenser coils regularly.  Today's refrigerator compressors are not made to last like they were in the past.  I remember when it wasn't unusual for a compressor to last 30 years.  You won't see that happen with the way refrigerator compressors are made today.  Regular cleaning of your condenser coils is crucial in preventing premature failure of your compressor.  For more tips, check out my article here on Angie's list titled "How To Avoid Appliance Repairs"

He quickly diagnosed the reason our washing machine stopped suddenly--a
faulty safety switch. The problem was a failed housing, not electrical,
so he ingeniously corrected the housing problem, reinstalled the switch, and
completed the job in about 20 minutes

and I am so grateful for his professionalism and skill. He is terrific! He not only fixed my oven problem, but readily communicated with me when I had a question. He was friendly and neat and worked efficiently. The price was very fair. I had purchased a deal through Angie's List, and that made it all even better. Not only am I happy to have my oven working again, I am so very happy to have found a company and technician I can trust and call when necessary. I highly recommend them.

It can be a major hassle when the washing machine breaks down in the middle of the weekly laundry. The provider responded promptly to my phone call, saying he could be out here in a day or so. He called later and gave us a 2-hour window in which to expect him. To my surprise, he showed up at the earliest possible time! The machine needed a part replaced, which he had in his truck. The whole job was completed in less than half an hour!
Very happy with the service!

's Repair work on weekend. Called in the morning, the guy came in the afternoon. Checked our washer and advised that it wouldn't be an easy fix and we should contact LG since it's likely still under warranty and charged a minimal service call fee. Quick response on weekend and very honest work. Will definitely use them again in the future.

He had me help him move the dryer stacked on top before he could replace the gasket on a front loader. (What?)
it still leaked a little so he claimed that a water delivery hose was the problem, so he went and got that part and replaced it, when we put back the dryer on top and started testing the washer, it made a lot of noise that was not there before. Then he claimed he didn't do it and said there was an error code on the machine before. He then called his "partner" to come over and look at it. By that time, he had spent about three hours here already. His partner came over, removed the gasket that he replaced and readjusted the water hose that he replaced. He had positioned the water hose too close to the drum so that when it went into a spin cycle, there was a lot of noise and friction. The gasket and hose problem was fixed in all of 2 minutes. without having to remove the dryer as we did before! Also when he was testing the washer, the water exhaust was pulled out so that water spilled all over the floor which I had to clean up after him. It was a huge mess! The original problem is fixed now but could have been done in just a few minutes as demonstrated by the other guy. It was quite an ordeal!
