"I was a little surprised that they were working on christmas eve, but they came out & did the job within 1/2 days work. I was instructed on the remote &" shown all the features. Rebates are available through the Energy Trust & some utility companies (such as
Electric). So, even though the price was $3500....I actually paid much less than that.

"While renovating our home, we had the contractor install tubing for radiant heat in the basement under a new slab they were pouring. After living in the home for" a few months we decided to finish the system and starting searching for HVAC/plumbing services. Throughout the entire process
was very punctual with their responses and appointments. We explained our situation and got 4 options at various price points. I was extremely satisfied that they payed attention to our budget needs and a year after installation, I'd say they were very honest with the pros and cons of all the choices we had. We ended up installing a middle of the road water heater that has worked very well and we've been pleased with the results. A few things of particular note. First, other quotes we got did not want to use a water heater but a high efficiency boiler. While I did read online that this was the better route to go, I didn't want to spend that kind of money.
said that, yes, a boiler is ideal but that a water heater was perfectly fine for our space. We may have saved a little more money on energy costs down the road, but we only had X dollars to spend period, and they understood that. And I will say it has worked out great. Second, our not so awesome plumbing contractor that worked on our house (not from
) suddenly remembered where a magical pipe went (he didn't know a week earlier when we asked him but after all the work was done it some how hit him). Because of this, he said American needed to come back and change the installation. We called them up and explained and they came out and made the change 2 days later, no fuss, no cost. Third, our water heater does not have an intake from outside. While I assume they did this to save on cost it inadvertently caused us some issues. Our ventilation to the utility room was no longer up to code, it needed to be larger. To keep the story short I'll say the gas company wasn't happy and we were without gas for some time. I didn't hold this against
directly, but as a new home owner, unless I Google something I'm not going to know what the city codes are for anything and sort of look to the contractors to look out for that stuff. Lastly, and I can't hold
directly responsible because this was in their contract (I just didn't read it carefully enough), but they did not cover the exhaust pipe with drywall/a soffit. So the reason this made me upset was because I remember specifically asking our sales person if they would cover everything up and repair any holes they put anywhere and everywhere and he said yes. After 18 months of remodeling, I was particularly sensitive to contractors who always seem to leave me with more work (painting, cleaning, caulking, etc). However when they were done and I came home there was this 4 inch pipe just running along my ceiling. That's when I took a closer a look at the contract. I didn't make a fuss over it, and finished the work myself, but I'll say I was sort of disarmed by a verbal promise and didn't read the fine print like I normally would. Frustrated? Yes. My responsibility to read stuff I sign? Yes.

Hiring an HVAC service

The awkward-to-pronounce acronym stands for "heating, ventilation and air conditioning" which in many respects are completely different processes.

HVAC Maintenance

You can help your heating and cooling systems work more efficiently and last longer by tending to regular maintenance. Some things, like changing the furnace filter, can easily be done by the homeowner.

Size matters when you install a new A/C unit, and not necessarily the way you might expect.

No one can tell you what another contractor will charge. There is no one set price for heating and air-conditioning equipment installation. One of the major factors that affect your price is its size. No one can tell you what size equipment you’ll need without doing a load analysis on the home. That calculation essentially determines the insulation value of the home, i.e... What is the heat gain of the home, what are some other prevailing factors like room equipment, solar gain, or natural shading? You can compare prices between contractors to gauge what your cost would be between contractors, but this is a little tricky to do. Let me explain a little more. Let's say you get an installation quote of $5050.00 from contractor “A” who employs three technicians and operates two trucks. He also runs his operation from home. Contractor “B” charges $6200.00 to do the same job but has 10 employees and 5 trucks. He works out of a rental unit and offers his people a little bit better of a benefit package to recruit highly motivated workers. Everything else being equal (equipment size, SEER rating, furnace efficiency, brand name and additional material—other things that affect the price), is either one of these contractors defrauding you? No, their overhead is different. All these things play into a company’s labor rate. Just be aware of your expectations when it comes to performing any kind work in your home. If you want to pay an extremely low-inexpensive price below the average installation cost in your area then you are highly likely to get the quality of work that comes with that cost. Remember cheaper is not better!

?
The only thing of importance, is the hvac professional you choose to use. Alot of manufacturer's pieces are built relatively the same, and will last about the same amount of time. The thing that matters most is what you can not compare between companies, and that is the installation. Purchasing a system is not like purchasing a car, where no matter where you buy it, they are all the same. Each installation is different, and usually what you are paying for is the level of expertise, and quality of the installation, the company who will actual give you the warranty, and the comfort that you will receive. Manufacturers warranties disappear every day. They always have a loophole where they can get out of paying, but your local dealer wants to keep you happy for future work, and to protect his reputation in the communiy. Look up 4 year old Nordyne and Goodman warranty problems. Choose the HVAC professional first. It will cost you the least in the long run. I have had to totally redo plenty of installations that were just performed because of an uncomfortable customer, and a system that keeps breaking down. The equipment is only as good as it's installation, and over 70% are not installed correctly.
?
Yes Jupiter. It depends on the severity of the situation, is the mold encapsulated in the insulation. If yes, than replace [insulation] it with new. Is it on the casing of the heater? If yes, clean it with a mold neutralizing metal cleaner. It's not a matter of finding something or someone to clean or address the existing mold. It's a matter of finding a contractor to rectify what is causing the mold grow. It's coming from excessive moisture in the air-handler unit. I can say with 100% surety you’re dealing with poor airflow and/or incorrect equipment sizing! Either issue will cause excessive icing of the evaporator coil, which leads to excessive condensate water in the system. The condensate will eventually overflow the drain pan leaving stagnant water in the air-handler housing, which leads to mold growth. I would not let any contractor do any kind of temporary repair, add any device like a UV light or air-cleaning product until the aforementioned is corrected. I talk a lot about this in my videos and on my website. It is the result of improper system design from unqualified contractors. There is a reason why some guys cost more than others, and this is one reason why!

?
I'd rate them equal,or close,as with several other brands. I'd be more concerned about the difference in installation and service down the road. Difficult to determine the difference ,but asking for detailed info about their installation, may convince you to choose one over the other.

The Dept. of Energy states that poor installations can cause a 30% efficiency loss! Plus with Gas their are saftey issues, venting properly etc.,and of couse the need for a "low Level" Carbon Monoxide Alarm.
?
I think maybe you are confusing SEER, which is an efficiency-related rating (higher SEER means more effective use of the electric power used to compress the gas), and TONS rating, which is a measure of the total cooling power of the system. (Tons used to mean how many tons per hour of ice was used in evaporative cooling building systems - a Refrigeration or Cooling Ton equals 12,000 Btu/Hour of energy exchange. A BTU, which is another antique measure but still used, is the energy needed to change the temperature of a pound of water one degree fahrenheit. Unfortunately, because of varying humidity and evaporation, this is not readily related to house air heating or cooling without a lot of assumptions and some computations. Relating this to today's world - the Manuals BayAreaAc referred to account for all these energy conversions and determine an estimated cooling (or heating) requirement for your specific house. The type of construction, solar exposure, general climatic conditions such as average temperatures, humidity, and hottest and coldest normal ambient temperatures and desired inside temperture are all taken into account in the more sophisticated versions of the analysis, so there is no "standard", though a rough old rule of thumb was about 1 ton of cooling per 500SF of house. Obviously, this was a WAG only because it did not account for insulation, type of roofing, whether you live in Alaska or Miami, etc. The ACCA manuals do a very simplified form of evaluation to arrive at a "design", which generally will be adequate. OF course, highly precise calculations are not really needed because A/C units generally come in even ton ratings - so if you are at say 2.6 ton requirement you will be getting a 3-ton unit anyway. SEER ratings are not a direct measure of efficiency, but the relative difference between ratings gives you good idea of the unit's relative efficency in using electricity - so a 16 SEER should be about 19% more efficient (so roughly comparable lower electricity bill) than a comparably sized 13 SEER unit. 13 SEER is the lowest efficiency currently allowed to be built for general use, 19 SEER is about the highest efficiency made by pretty much all manufacturers, and about 25 SEER is the highest rated though very pricey shelf-item units, though special construction custom units can reach about 30 SEER. Note however, like any government sponsored rating, much of it is hooey when you get down to it - for instance, SEER ratings are figured based on 80 degree inside air temp and 82 degrees outside, when that is far from the normal case of mid to low seventies inside and high eighties or above outdoors. This makes the absolute SEER rating meaningless, but relative numbers still have meaning in comparing units. Note these efficiency ratings are for conventional air conditoners and heat pumps working in ambient air conditions. Ground sourced Geothermal or lake/river exchange cooling units, though initially more expensive in most cases, can greatly exceed the air-exchange unit efficiencies because they are exchanging heat with cold natural water rather than with a high-temperature outside air, and instead of continually compressing a gas are just circulating cold water. I worked on one geothermal cooling project which had almost infinite efficiency, which of course makes no sense - but the only power was for sensors and a control valve as the water flow was single-pass under gravity flow, so no power was used to circulate the water.

We got the estimate and wanted to take some time to think about it. When we called back that afternoon, we were told that they had sold three more jobs and that it would be 5-6 days before they could get to us. When I added the hot water heater, they called a crew to work on Saturday (3 days). The crew was on time and spent all day in my basement. They scratched the unit trying to get it up my stoop (our front stoop is about 2 inches higher than it should be), so they offered the option of waiting for another unit or taking $100 off of this one. I opted for the $100 off. The guy who sold the job stopped by to check on the crew. It went well. I would use them again, but I hope not any time soon!

Within the last few years, we have had

, fireplace and gas barbeque. All of these projects were done with professionalism and quality and at a reasonable price. Recently, we had them install an air conditioner. The installers were at our home at the expected time, and the installation was completed within the timeline given. The installers were very conscientious of the work area and the quality of work was exceptional.

I have to admit I'm a little confused as they told me the furnace was failing and offered me a quote for eventual repair or replacement. I called in a second company who told me it was old but they couldn't see any signs of failure. They also checked the CO level outside and it showed appropriate levels. So I'm not sure what to think.

Originally had the company come out do do annual maintenance. Had a coupon. Turned out the unit was rusting away. There are all good comments on the installation but I have some reservations on the pressure we felt under to get the work quoted. We had some minor bumps with the installation but after a few adjustments everything worked out. Even the inspector said it was a quality job. So happy with that even though it did take a couple of visits to finalize. The main concern I have with the company is the more or less higher than desired pressure to get the job quoted for a next day schedule and the alleged potential for cost savings. The original estimate was about $1,000 higher, but there was no time to to see how realistic our cost was. Eventually surrendered due to the reviews on Angie's list. The price may or may not be fair but how we worked it out left me with doubts about just how good a deal it was. Seems the cost was about the same for other customers who may not have had the incentive of closing the deal that week that we were faced with. Of course all of these things are variable as not everyone had the same size unit installed so without shopping around it would be hard to compare. That is the only reason I wouldn't use them again, I just don't feel comfortable with having to make a decision that would end up costing more money if I delayed to the next week.

I'll have to abridge the details, there was way too much great stuff involved.
We had
Andrews HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
install a new Trane Variable Speed Heat Pump in our home to help us escape the high price of Natural Gas in this area.
Two professional guys showed up 5 min early on the day of the installation (7:54am). They said they would go ahead and get started and that the company owner would be there shortly. First of all, how often does the owner of a heating/cooling company get out of the office and work with his employees? They went ahead and got started and the owner showed up shortly after having to stop and retrieve some things. The three of them worked so hard and professionally while at the same time actually seemed to enjoy their job that day.
They stopped for lunch about 12:30 and then started back at it about 1:00pm. The nature of our installation was a bit unique and somewhat more detailed so it took a little longer than might have been originally expected but time did not seem to be an issue. The guys wrapped up the job somewhere after 5:00pm. You really can't put a time limit on a professional installation when you obviously care about your work and your customers.
They left the work area cleaner than it was when they arrived that morning.
The two gentlemen and the owner, did a phenomenal job. We were amazed at the quality of the service and work performed. There truly are not enough good things I can say about
Andrews HVAC Contractors Provider Name Locked
. Even the administrative assistant who works in the office and schedules appointments is incredibly friendly and outgoing. They even registered our system so we don't have to worry about any of that information which can be a pain to deal with sometimes.
These folks treat you like not just like another job and invoice but rather as a customer and like a long-time friend which makes you feel valued beyond any price.
I would have them come back anytime and definitely recommend them to anyone who needs HVAC replacement/service/issues addressed. Truly awesome!!
