Handyman Reviews in Addison

I have a lot to say about this company. I recently bought my first home and purposefully had the builder leave off knobs on my upgraded cabinets because I wanted to choose my own. I hired
to put my new drawer pulls on. They sent a
out who installed the kitchen pulls just fine. When it came to my master bathroom, guest bathroom, and one drawer in the kitchen everything went south after that. The kitchen drawer was off by 1 inch and I was able to tell by just glancing at it. He mistakenly measured the holes wrong for the master bathroom and guest bathroom and thus drilled the holes wrong on 6 cabinet doors. After drilling the holes and realizing his mistake, he tried to cover up his mistake or fix the problem by coloring the holes with permanent marker so that it wasn't as noticeable! After realizing that the mistake was probably too big to fix, he then came and got me to look at the mistake and said he could fix it if he went out and bought the bigger pulls for the bathrooms. I told him that i wanted the size that I picked out for a specific reason. I could not believe that there was permanent marker on my cabinets that I spent EXTRA money on to get the better ones. I called management and told them they were replacing EVERYTHING. There is NO WAY I was going to have misplaced drilled holes covered up by permanent marker in my BRAND NEW HOUSE.
, someone on the corporate side, was very helpful. I did not meet any resistance in getting new cabinet doors ordered. I told him that I wasn't paying for the hour that the handy man took to fix his mistake, the cabinets, or the cost to have someone come in and replace and install the doors and put on the pulls when the new cabinets arrived.
was very helpful and did everything with a sense of urgency. The cashiers check was mailed to the cabinet company right away and the doors were ordered quickly. After that, I expressed my concern and I requested a different
. Here, I was met with much resistance and told they like to give their handy men a second
and the handy man was very sorry. To be honest, I don't really care about giving people second chances. The job should have been done right the first time. I shouldn't have had to wait 2 weeks for everything to be fixed. After I asked three times for another handy man and I was given the same response, I finally gave up and said FINE but I will have to watch him like a hawk. How can you blame me though? My confidence in the handy man was very low. The same handy man came 2 weeks later to install the cabinet doors and pulls. Of course, we watched him just to make sure he drilled everything right because I didn't want to order MORE cabinets. For some reason, in the beginning he had trouble getting the new doors installed and drilled multiple holes in the side where the hinges are. One of the base of the cabinets became cracked. This is where my bf told him to STOP before the crack got bigger. The handy mans cell phone rang at that moment, and he then excused himself to answer the phone. He left to go downstairs and outside my house where my front door was. My boyfriend went to the front window and opened the window only to hear the
talking bad about him to his boss saying he can't work. His boss then called me asking me if there was a problem.
, the owner, was very polite on the phone and asked if there was a problem. I explained to him that my confidence in the handy man was low and I can't be blamed for watching him to make sure it's done right this time around. PLUS, he had made another crack in the base of the cabinet which I did not ask them to replace but could of since it was damage not caused by me. I told
that from the very beginning I asked for another
and it should have been respected. We wouldn't be in this situation where I was watching him. If someone doesn't feel comfortable with someone, they shouldn't be FORCED into being stuck with someone when they already had a bad experience with that person.
apologized, which I appreciate but I informed him that a good business would respect the customer's wishes from the very beginning and I wouldn't have to wait another day for another
to come. The next day someone new came. We didn't watch him. He installed the rest of the cabinet doors on and also installed the pulls just fine. We were all happy then. So to make a long story short, although my experience with the first
was HORRIBLE...I will say that the upper management did a very good job in damage control and keeping me from getting VERY VERY upset. If i had met resistance in replacing the cabinetry that was damaged, I would have been EXTREMELY upset and probably have hired a lawyer. This was the whole reason I chose a company that was insured. Since the company did a very good job in damage control, I am giving them praises for that. The company is good if you get a handy man that is qualified. If they don't meet up to your expectations, at least management will be sure to take care of you.

has no idea how to schedule and assure that schedule is met. I was told I had an appointment which was never relayed to the contractor. Then, when I was contacted by the contractor - he wanted to delay the appointment by 1 to 2 hours. I was told I would receive a confirmation email from
Addison Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
- that never happened. The service is awful. I am moving on!

This project took two trips. The
Addison Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
came out, checked the door and gave me an estimate. He seemed knowledgeable and said he had worked in construction for years. I had purchased a lock for the job, but he pointed out that it wouldn't work and told me what to get. Once I had the lock to be installed on the door, I called and scheduled the installation. On the day of the installation the
Addison Handyman Services Provider Name Locked
was about an hour late arriving. I work from home so that's not such a big deal. He confirmed that I had the right lock and worked for a little while on the door, then had to leave because he didn't have the right drill attachment for my door. He was going to Lowes about twenty minutes away, but it took well over an hour, I assumed he stopped for lunch. Once he returned, he got right to work and about thirty minutes later called me downstairs. He had apparently forgotten somewhere along the way what he was doing and had drilled a hole all the way through my front door. He was very apologetic, said he had already called his boss who would be calling me. I felt terrible for him, because he obviously felt bad enough about it. He promised the door would be replaced and insisted on patching the hole until it was. That all happened over two weeks ago and nothing has been done. I never heard from the boss. I've called repeatedly and always get a promise that someone is about to call me. Obviously, my $20 keyless deadbolt is going to come with the surprise expense of a brand new door. These guys would be great to watch on a thirty minute sitcom, but you don't want the Keystone Cops of

repairs loose in your house. This was a

project that went terribly wrong. Everybody ocassionally has a bad day, but if a

guy has a bad day in your house, you're on the hook for any expense. Just check the Terms of Agreement as I did after the fact: "there is no liability for consequential damages of any nature or kind". If things work out, great. If things don't work out, maybe you'll have better luck finding another tradesperson on Angies List to fix the damage left behind.

Excellent and quick service. The repairman fixed a plumbing leak, faucet handle, and some wood work on the roof.

I paid $319 dollars for an Angie's List "Deal," and after about four days I got a brief response asking when I would like the service. I responded that anytime is fine, but I'd prefer sooner rather than later. After getting no response for a week, I followed up again. Days later I still haven't gotten a response. The company should not offer "Deals" on Angie's List if they're swamped and incapable of handling the workload.
- Patrick G.

When he arrived he said that he was only at my house for 2 hours. I told him I'd paid for three, but he said no. He changed the locks and door knob but said he didn't know how to make it so that the dead bolt and doorknobs used the same key -- even though the package said it was easy. He left after 2 hours. I called and was told that I had paid for 3 hours. So I had to reschedule. The second time he was late. I don't remember the cost or when he provided the services. I would use the service again but would want a different guy.
- Katherine P.

These guys were the best. They had me email them a list of what I wanted done so the right trained employees for the job would be sent. They followed up to set an appointment. They showed up on time, went to work on the project and completed it to my complete satisfaction. I plan to call them for future remodeling jobs. I would highly recommend
