"I have never before known an Angie's list provider to purposely insult customers. This provider slips extra charges onto the bill and will go weeks without" cleaning your pool if they choose to come by in bad weather. I took care of my pool for years with no problems, but due to back problems and stressful life events, along with a broken vacuum hose, I lost control in the heat and the pool got very green. I decided that since the back problems seemed to be sticking around it would be time to start having monthly pool service. I called around for bids on either just fixing the problem or doing it and providing monthly service.
's offer was unbelievably inexpensive. He said he had a chemical that could fix it right away for $40 and then it would be $70 for monthly service. I was very impressed that he had me email our agreed terms so there would be no confusion about the terms. The email I sent said this: "t was a pleasure speaking to you. I am very impressed by your positive Angie's list reviews and hope to add to them. As we discussed my pool is quite green and the bottoms needs a great vaccuuming. Walls are still fairly clean and water otherwise clear. You suggested we will need a phosphate treatment for $40 (possibly less a $4 angie's list coupon) and will commence monthly service at $70 a month (or up to $75 if it is a problem pool). You said you could get started tomorrow. I waited all day for him to come, then he showed up as it was getting dark and starting to storm. Since the weather was bad he did not clean out my filter and just threw the chemicals in and left. He told me I should leave the filter running overnight. That evening I was concerned to see that the filter was so clogged that the pool was completely stalled out. With a bad back I did not really want to keep cleaning the filter out myself but since he would not come back for over a week, I was left (with his knowledge) to keep cleaning out the sludge caused by the chemicals he put in the pool. I will say that the chemicals worked very well, and I highly recommend whatever he uses for green and other algae problems that was very impressive. I was stunned to receive a bill for charges that we had not agreed to but he did agree to postpone the charges he had not warned me about. They cleaned the pool exactly twice. then the guy showed up a day early in bad weather and left me a note saying he could not clean the pool because of the bad weather which is understandable. However, when I emailed him on the 31st to say it had now been almost two weeks since the pool was clean and it looks very bad,
responded by insulting me and refusing to come back and clean before I paid for the next calendar month.

My order of preference - first choice a jacuzzi/hot tub repairman (from a jacuzzi/hot tub/sauna distributor), second choice a plumber (many do not work on hot tubs, jacuzzi's and sauna because they cnanot afford to stock parts). An electrician might be able to fix it if it is a connection problem, but such motors are seldom repaired if the problem is internal, just replaced - which would be a jacuzzi repairman/plumber type job.

You will have to find out what your model costs new - looks like they run from about $400 to 1700 depending on size. IF yours is at the lower end, might be just as cheap to replace it, with parts and labor. If not low end, then repair probably works. Typical pricing of components that might have gone out - switch $80, timer/control unit $130, heating element $100 (probably most likely to have failed) - so if only one of these went out, figuring $100-200 labor, probably cheaper to fix it. I would contact your dealer for a better idea.

BTW - here is a Saunatec instruction on maintenance on the heating element and rocks, failure to follow can shorten heating element life, if that is what went out (and probably the simplest to replace) -

I'm sorry to say there aren't many of us on here with adequate experience working on pools, myself included.  My suggestion would be to contact a few local companies specializing in pool renovation and have them give their recommendations and bids for the work, breaking down order of operations so you know what to expect at which stages.  Check Angie's List for referrals in your area and cross check those with the BBB for any unresolved complaints.

Pretty good. Salesman was nice. Spec'd out top of the line system and installed. Provided me number of electrician to do electrical hook up and work. Over all pump is awesome and work performed (installation) good. Communication was lacking as I had to read the whole manual to figure out how to use the pump and speak to the guy at pinch a penny on what to do to maintain the saltwater pool. Also slight issue in payment terms (cash vs. Credit card) or even being contacted to make payment after install was done. I think 2 weeks went by before we got emailed an invoice. And some slight delays which allowed the pool to turn green before the pump went in. All tworked out good in the end. Love the pump.

The service of cleaning my pool on the last weekend of August was completely botched by the providers. They not only completely obstructed my pools filtration system I was told by the owner that if I had a problem I should take it up with God because he was the only one who cared. He told me it was my problem that the pool was not fixed because he could not be responsible for what his service department did. I do not understand while any reasonable contractor would place the blame of their employes on the consumer. It has be 5 days without a functional pool, with the blame sorrily on their service department (they admit on of there employes such up acorns in to a filtration system). Even tonight on the 5th day I have no idea if they will resolved this issue.
Pleas stay for All Season and it's Aqua Service.

took when fixing the hot tub. He also took time to explain my pool system to me as I had questions that the pool installer hadn't taken the time to go over everything with me. I have a clear understanding of my systems and know if I ever have a problem this provider will take good care of our needs.

Very reliable and courteous.
Everything went well for several months until summer (when we really use the pool) . I Started seeing algae in the spa, (which he doesn't vacuum like our last service) and let the technician know. By the next week our whole pool was green. I asked him if he was going to add algaecide, and he replied that he didn't have any on his truck, which surprised me, being a heat wave in August, but he added Chlorine and stablilizer and let the filter run 24 hours. Not much improvement. 3rd week of green and I've had to purchase chems and have a go at it myself.
Meanwhile it's 90 degrees and the kiddos don't want to swim in the green pond, as they now call it.

We knew of the business from purchasing pool supplies from their shop. Then we learned that they provide pool repair. The quote we got was one of the best - sometimes that makes one suspicious of materials or workmanship. Not to worry here! This crew did a TERRIFIC job taking out the old plaster, and repairing previous earthquake created cracks and installing new return lines. They worked long days in order to accomplish the job in a timely fashion. The finished product came out looking line a new pool again, and the circulation was improved dramatically. I would recommend them highly.
