"We had leaks in the metal awnings that covered our bay windows after the heavy rains in december. Then 2 weeks later, busted a pipe in the slab under our washing" machine. WE called a few places, they were responsive and overall quick to get things going. We initially were thinking we were going to use home insurance to cover the repair, and during this process they worked with my insurance. After the estimate came back, we decided it was not worth it to file a claim and instead paid out of pocket. That's where it all went downhill. Since they own another general contracting business (oh what luck - we can fix this for you), they were inclined to remove much more than was necessary, over calling the "wet" areas to basically expand the demolished area and then hope to be the ones to put it all back together. It took them way too long to find the source of an ongoing leak. And worst of all, at one point they told me I had water in my ceiling, my attic, and all down one wall in areas WHERE THERE WAS NO WATER and that I needed a new roof (we didn't after 2 more roofing evals) !!! Basically they didn't know how to use their infrared moisture detectors and were ready to rip down ENTIRE WALLS when in reality they were just seeing changes in the temperature of my walls (maybe old insulation in these areas) and not actual moisture. I actually made them get up on the ceiling to use a secondary moister reader (the kind with the prongs that actually tests for water) to confirm the cold spots were just that - cold spots and NOT MOISTURE. I am amazed I had to be the one to suggest that. When we got a contractor (not their co-business), we got an independent moisture assessment (someone who just evaluates for insurance purposes but does no remediation) and low and behold - they were totally off on the wrong foot - thank goodness I told them to stop. Then the billing - every machine charged by the hour - many not even turned on most of the time. Ridiculous. We had them come and take it all away. What a mess. BOTTOM LINE - doubt their integrity. They just want the GC work that can follow for the rebuild. worst of all - they didn't know what they were doing and how to read and interpret their instruments. Would not use again.

Try SCOE 10x (Super Concentrated Odor Eliminator). Cost $25.00 ( includes shipping) for concentrate to make 32 oz. and 32 oz. spray bottle included.  This stuff is great!  I have cats and every now and then one of them pees on the rugs ( cat pee smell is awful as is cigarette smoke). You may need more than 32 oz. to get all the stink out but go to the website and read testimonials ( they will even send a concentrate of skunk smell for you to pour on something and then use the SCOE 10x on it to prove how good it works, for a few dollars more).  Anyway, this stuff worked like magic for me.  They also sell gallon and larger sizes.  Worth every penny!

You have every right to fire the GC, but it may cost you money in legal fees to fight any leins he has on the property. If you do insurance work you should know that you have to do part of the work out of your own cash reserves and wait for disbursement from the insurance company. His crews errors are not your problem, they are his. If you have problems you should include your insurance company in the problems you are having. If he is running into problems with extras they should only be related to things the adjuster missed and not his or his crews incompetence. If upon rip out he finds hidden water damage that would be an example. An example was a flood job I did not too long ago where we found termite damage that could not be seen untill after demo. Since it was not related to the flood it was not covered. Unless this is his first insurance job he should know the procedures and not be expecting money before it is due, stick to your guns and make sure he is doing the right job. If not include your insurance company and possibly even your mortgage company in any problems. A lein is not that big a deal though in the long run as long as you pay off the agreed amount as per contract. Just make sure if you stay with this guy he has a lien release with him when you give him the finnal check!

Our insurance company recommended Peak, so we figured it would be best to go with a company the insurance company was familiar with and had worked with before. When we first met with
Jackson Water And Fire Damage Services Provider Name Locked
, he was pleasant and knowledgeable, and he was very responsive. It took a long time for the insurance company and Peak to agree on a price. I'm sure this was due mostly to the insurance company's nickel and diming, but I was surprised given they had worked together before. Once we signed the contract and put money down, Peak was a bit less responsive. The timeline was really rushed, and I got the impression that Peak had larger, "more important" jobs than ours. The insurance company did not want to pay for more loss of use time than they had to, so they put lots of pressure on Peak to rush things. Consequently, a lot of the work was rushed and not always done well. Peak relied on a lot of sub-contractors and did not have good management/oversight of them. There were lots of screw-ups and miscommunications. For example, the plumbers showed up to install the bathroom vanities, but said they didn't have the equipment to move the plumbing so the new vanity would fit. We have 3 bathrooms, and this happened twice. Also, the sub-contractor tile person showed up to do the tiles in the master bath, but left when there was no tile board down, as he said he did not agree to do that. The electrician subcontractor also removed an electrical box for our chandelier by mistake (another miscommunication) and then put it back in the wrong place when he replaced it, so he had to come back again to move it. Also, someone from Peak (not a plumber) improperly installed the faucet handles in our master bath. When another Peak person came to fix it, he scratched the handles in the process of removing them, so I had to order replacement parts for the faucet and wait again for someone to come and put them in properly. The painting sub-contractors were a disaster. They painted on sweltering, humid days, without using air conditioning and leaving windows open with no screens. As a result, there were lots of paint drips, and even small bugs stuck to the paint on the walls. The painting subcontractor also did pretty crappy work, not adequately touching up imperfections in the wall (such as

from the water test tool used by the water damage mitigation company) and not sanding properly before painting. When I complained, Peak had their own painter come by himself, basically every day for weeks to fix the imperfections and other finishing touches that needed to be done in the house. He was a very nice guy, but it was really irritating constantly having someone in the house after we moved in, particularly since I work from home and have young children. He did a pretty good job trying to fix the horrible paint job, but I wish they had used him in the beginning. I am still finding paint drips and water measurement tool

that I didn't see before we gave Peak the final payment. It is very upsetting to think about how we paid someone to paint so poorly when I could have done the job better myself. On a more positive note, I would say the overall quality of the work was pretty good, and I would say the price was very fair for the amount of work done. The new hardwood floors and kitchen cabinets look beautiful, as does the tiling work. The process of getting there was very stressful and disorganized, though. I would be wary of using Peak in a water damage/insurance situation where there is a time rush. I would also be sure to ask how much they will be relying on sub-contractors and how they will be overseeing them.

came out on 6/15/15 and tested for water. We still had dampness and one wall was still wet inside! His mold remediation crew came out the very next day to dry it out. That took about 5 days. The following week they started the re-build. They had to put up new walls in 5 different locations, replace parts of ceilings and molding. They also had to replace two doors, one interior and one exterior. They moved all furniture and cleaned up after themselves really well.

HORRIBLE. For starters, I hired him and PAID him $750 to install french doors in my home. He not only cancelled the day of installation but when he DID show up late the next day he installed warped doors. He told me basically there was nothing he could do. Its my impression that if he provided the doors and installed them, then it is HIS responsibility to make sure they are acceptable and satisfactory. I have asked him over and over to come fix them or replace them and he ignores me. I figured if I hired him to do another job for me I could get him to fix the doors...
THEN...I hired him to build an outdoor cat enclosure for me. He did HALF the job- leaving early each day he showed up - claiming some emergency and then showed up hungover and unable to work in the hot sun. He broke so many of my outdoor yard decorations with no concern whatsoever. He tore down the existing structure and just left it piled in my back yard. Then he snuck out the side gate on Friday and Saturday when I was home and left with his worker. I have not seen him since and it is Monday. I asked him on Friday when he left early to please communicate with me if he is going to leave. He ducks out when you aren't looking. He has not completed 1/4 of the job and I paid him most of what the bid was. I am now stuck having to hire another contractor to haul off the trash and finish the work he started. PLUS half of what he did was wrong and needs to be redone. The boards are crooked, big gaps in between areas that are supposed to be water tight. My yard is a wreck and now I am going to have to pay twice the amount to get this done. He is telling me he had a family situation come up and will come back on Wednesday to finish. There is no way in h*** I am letting him step foot on my property. I am going to take him to small claims court for my French doors and for a partial refund of what I paid him. He bought some materials and they are here so I will deduct that from what I want refunded.
