I should have heeded the warnings! My real estate agent offered me a Home Warranty Policy paid for by the seller. This is something that happens all the time when one purchases a house. I looked on all of the usual websites (Angie's List, Yelp to name 2) and most of the companies had abysmal reviews. Since I wasn't paying for it, I chose

even though they had lots of F grades, with a scattered few good reviews (probably planted by the company ). Most of the reviews said the company would do anything to avoid fixing a product and would find all sorts of loopholes and send out shills to appease the client and then do nothing. They charge $65 per visit which you must pay in advance. OK, I live in the house 2 weeks with a working propane water heater and it stops working. I call Fidelity and they were extremely solicitous on the phone. "Of COURSE we will help as soon as possible and expedite your request since you have no hot water," the receptionist said. So they sent out these two guys who arrived an hour after the scheduled time. They looked at the heater and said it was old.

. They tried to light the pilot AND DIDN'T KNOW HOW! I had to show them and light it (these are supposedly hot water heater repair people). Then they started taking pictures. They didn't try to fix anything, they just wanted pictures. A metal piece was missing from the cover and they took a few pictures of that. I told them that had NOTHING to do with the problem. The heater lit up perfectly and then went out after about 2 minutes. There was probably an issue with the regulator (I did some research before they came). They left and said that I would hear back in the morning. No call in the morning. I called the repair company and they said they were just about to call Fidelity. Five minutes later, I got a call from Fidelity saying that they weren't going to fix the heater because a piece was missing - EVEN THOUGH IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH WHY THE HEATER WAS NOT WORKING! The woman on the phone said, "Read the fine print - if there is anything missing, the repair will not be done." I told her that was the equivalent of an eye doctor saying, I can't fix your vision because you have a hole in your shoe." She said, those are the rules and hung up on me. Almost every review of

They collect millions of dollars from home sellers and the buyers think they are getting some peace of mind and the only thing they get is a loss of $500 that could have been credited to the buyer rather than given the bogus policy. This is a pervasive, rampant scam and it should be exposed and stopped.

The technician was friendly, punctual, and thorough. Best of all, I was not charged a penny. This is a note of caution to potential customers.

is new to the area. As a result, they don't have a wide variety of service providers. I had an issue with my A/C and they only had ONE service provider who was located in Fort Worth. Due to the 50 mile distance, the technician only had limited time of day that he was available in Plano. I work full time and need either early morning or late appointment. Trying to schedule an appointment was such a nightmare that I hired an repair service out of my own pocket.

Refuse to cover the washing machine when they had told me 10 days prior that it was covered. I acquired this policy by purchasing a home. It is the worst policy I've ever had. They told me my washer/dryer were covered, and when I called in for a claim on the washer, 10 days later, now it's not covered? This is total bull. That is out and out a lie. All they wanted to do was argue with me on the phone. They told me I could add it, for an additonal $70 but now there has to be proof that the washing machine is working. Their solution, call the agent who sold the policy (real estate agent), yeah they will take care of that right away. I left a message for them, but haven't heard back. This is ridiculous. Will definitely be reporting this to my attorney.

I called in at 8:45 to report a freezer problem and at 6pm I still have not had a vendor call to schedule an appointment.
In summary:
I've made a mistake of renewing the contract with them. I've had nothing but trouble with them for the past two years and will be looking for a new warranty company. They have only one main phone number for everyone - clients, realtors, vendors, and anything else, so you are usually on hold for more than 10 minutes. My last hold was 21 minutes. The vendors they assign tend to have bad reviews on Angie's list and services are minimal. I do not trust Allied or its vendors anymore. Talking to a "customer service" representative or even manager does no good - they keep citing company policy and assigning the same vendors, not willing to fix an issue to a customer's satisfaction even if Allied caused an 8 hour delay in even assigning the right vendor. After a whole day of phone calls and reassignments from one vendor to another I still had no appointment with a vendor who could fix my appliance.
The first year I was with Allied, they used to respond within 2 hours with an assigned vendor who would then call within about 2-3 hours. Now it takes them about 4 hours to assign a vendor, they no longer give you the phone call of the vendor so you have to

for the number online if you want to call them without waiting another 4 hours for the vendor to call. The "customer service" keeps quoting the policy that they have 48 hours. Do NOT choose Allied.

I decided to utilize my home warranty for a water temperature issue. The initial determination was that a swivel most likely needed to be adjusted. I called AHS and got an appointment fairly quickly which initially gave me some confidence. The person showed up and was very nice. He was here approximately 20 minutes. He ran the water and he may have looked in the access panel in the closet (I had to leave him so I'm not sure). He then came out to tell me that the pipes were crossed which was why the water temperature was off.- ok fine. Really shoddy work by the contractor who did it but needs to be fixed. But he then went on to tell me that the drainage issue (that was NOT there when the house was inspected by one of the best inspectors in the metro area) could not be snaked and would require tunneling under the house to the tune of $5000!. He then proceeded to tell me that he would have to contact AHS to see if they would cover it. SURPRISE SURPRISE: SORRY, NOT COVERED. PRE-EXISTING CONDITION! 1) apparently an inspection that shows that there is a temperature issue considers ANY AND ALL REASONS FOR THE ISSUE TO BE PRE-EXISTING. So where a reasonable person would not expect someone who is inspecting a house that has NOT YET BEEN PURCHASED to have contractors come in and potentially damage the home with extensively invasive work. 2) the inspection DID NOT find a drainage issue, that was found after being in the home and that was apparently still considered a pre-existing condition when there is verbiage in the inspection report identifying that there was NO DRAINAGE PROBLEM during the inspection. 3) how does one determine that the issue with drainage is some pump or other plumbing paraphernalia (that may or may not actually exist) that is going to cost $5000 without visual inspection an in 20 minutes? 4) When seeking a second opinion was told it would be another $75 service fee (for an AHS contractor to come out again and once again have the claim denied because it is an AHS contractor paid by AHS) and ONLY when I called to cancel the policy were they MIRACULOUSLY able to waive the fee for the second opinion. I believe that AHS simply supplies fantom warranties that will never pay out on newly purchased homes for anything really significant. Perhaps you would be ok if the issue is a condenser or furnace, but any other system and you are out of luck. The very inspection you do to make your purchase decision will be the very information they use to support a denial of coverage. And then they don't want to cancel. They only confirm cancellation by mail and they take a "service fee" for cancellation. STAY AWAY FROM AHS FOR ANY HOME WARRANTIES. Find yourself a good, trustworthy plumber and electrician and use them for any issues. They do still exist. They will tell you the truth, they will fix the issue for a reasonable prices. You can trust them in your home. And they won't think you are some stupid female who won't know any better.

I ended up paying $6000 for a new unit and got no reimbursement from the Home Warranty company. My new HVAC contractor told me that noise I was hearing in my master bath was because the drain was not draining properly and it caused the unit to rust. He said any HVAC company should have recognized that and repaired the situation.
