"During his first visit to our home
was extremely thoughtul in his approach to the project, taking numerous photographs and notes. From this" preliminary research he noted several areas where work completed by a previous contractor did not meet local building codes. Before providing us with an estimate, he met several times with our local building department to develop cost-effective solutions to these building code issues.
gave a well-researched and accurate estimate. He started work when he said he would and completed the project on time and under budget. He managed several sub-contractors (electrician, plumber, painter, floor refinisher, HVAC) most of whom we had selected before we chose
as our GC.
and his crew were incredibly efficient with both time and resources. They took great care to protect our home and left our house clean at the end of each work day. They provided the following services: INTERIOR: framing, insulation and roof venting, fireblocking, drywall prep and finish, cement board installation, wall and floor tiling, cabinetry, countertop and window installation EXTERIOR: Flashing, shake siding, clapboard siding, roofing, exterior paint and paint prep (caulking, sealing, etc.) SPECIALTY SERVICES: Installation of rehabbed historic door jambs, doors, mouldings, casings, baseboards and floorboards. When we were short on existing historic materials to complete the project,
and his crew created new mouldings, flooring, etc to match the old. In conclusion, we feel it especially important to note that we have young children and that
and his entire crew were aware of and respectful of them. They were polite and kind to our kids. Whether working indoors or out, we never heard any foul language nor was there any smoking.

"I forgot the gentleman's name who came to do the work, but he was very polite and worked quickly. The deal I purchased was for 2 hours of electrical work, but" he was so efficient that he finished in half The time. He really seemed to know exactly what to do! I wish I would have had more things for him to do But I didn't know he would work that fast! It was definitely worth it!

Angie's Answers

?

This part of Don's answer follows my thoughts exactly:

"You want to deal with a professional person that is selling you a bath that was not working as a cashier a few months ago."

Do you go to the gracery store and ask for someone to cook your steak?  Of course not.  So why would you go to a building supply store and ask for someone to remodel your bathroom?  Rarely will you see a legitimate contractor take jobs from a retailer.  Why?  Because they don't pay much.  Speed is the most important thing to them, along with getting it done cheap so they can maximize profit.  About 10 years ago I worked on a few contracted structures (sheds, garages, etc.) from Home Depot.  They contracted to another company who then contracted people to build them.  At that time they paid a flat $250 for a contractor to pick up the supplies, build the structure on site, paint it, and use their own tools.  By the time the cost of a helper, fuel, tools, etc. was factored in there was nothing left for the contractor.  Anyway, the point I'm making is that the guy who will eventually show up to do the work will be so far down the line that everyone else has already taken the profits (Home Depot, ReBath, possibly someone else, and finally the guy working) that he probably isn't going to care what kind of job he does for you, quality or not.  He likely won't have much experience due to a high turnover rate and any experience he does have will probably be limited to his teachings at that job.  He probably can't answer any building code questions or identify other hazards once things are taken apart and he certainly won't do anything he doesn't have to while it is apart.

Another problem I've heard of repeatedly is that if (when) there is a problem there is always someone else you need to speak to.  You might have to talk to 4 or 5 different people before you can even get to someone that can address the problem.  Now multiply that due to having (at least) two separate companies involoved.  "You need to call ReBath."  "No, you need to call Home Depot."

You hire a general contractor for a reason.  We learn, understand, and keep up on building codes.  We are the one point of contact for all questions and issues on a project.  There is no manager in some other store, state, etc. to call.  You contract a GC and deal directly with that GC, or a site supervisor in some cases.  There isn't a huge chain of command to get through to reach the main decision maker for the business.  In a bathroom remodel you need someone who can do the plumbing, repair and/or move any electrical, install tile/flooring, drywall and paint, trim carpentry, and someone to coordinate all of that.  Sometimes you can find a qualified contractor to do all of those things and sometimes he will sub-contract out certain components (especially due to licensing laws) but you will always have that one definitive person to go to for any questions or issues.  A salesman in a store doesn't visit your home throughout the project to check on the status.  Even if he did, he likely wouldn't now what he is looking at.  The same goes for a retail manager.

Hire someone who specializes in taking care of your home.  Hire based on reputation & knowledge/experience.  You are right that not every customer can be happy so an occassional bad review can be found on just about any business.  Read the reviews, not the grades (they are always biased).  Look to see if the contractor attempted to rectify the problem, not ignore it.  Lastly, unless you want cheap, sloppy work and a whole heap of other troubles, don't hire based on a low price.

Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
?
What I always ask my customers regarding this question when remodeling bathrooms is how good they will be about maintaining and cleaning the new bathroom, especially when the old bathroom is obviously neglected.  If you are one of those people who wipes the glass down after a shower and cleans your bathroom every week or two you really don't need to spend the extra money.  If you are at the other end of the spectrum and clean it when it finally bothers you enough it may not be a bad investment.  I've had customer tell me they can tell a difference compared to their old glass without it and others say it made no difference at all.

Your basic rights and protections under law are probably outlined by your state and city's laws. In most states, the easiest way to look up your basic rights and privelges as a consumer would be to visit your state's attorney general website - you can usually find lots of great tips to protect yourself as a consumer there, too. Here's the National Association of Attorneys General's national listing, which includes a link to each state's attorney general website: http://www.naag.org/current-attorneys-general.php

Beyond those basic rights under the law, your expectations of a contractor during, on and after the completion of a job should be explicitly outlined in the estimate and contract. Although it can be a pain in the butt, ALWAYS read the estimate and/or contract before sign it! I cannot stress this enough - frequently the cause of someone's negative experiences with a contractor can be traced back to too few details in the contract.

We've covered contracts, and what you should expect to see in them, here: http://www.angieslist.com/contractor/signing-a-contract.htm

Good luck!

Their work was of superior quality. They were prompt and courteous. They gave me some excellent design enhancement advice also. When the glass for the shower arrived, it had a small crack in it.

, the owner, sent it back. He said, "I wouldn't put this in my house. I'm certainly not putting it in yours." He has called to see how we liked it and if all was the way we wanted it. We could not be happier and will use Prestige when we do our kitchen.

It went very well. They came at the time I asked them to and did the work efficiently. The floor looks beautiful.
Caveat: I was not prepared for the smell and had not planned on leaving my home. It wish I had.
Suggestion: at the time of estimate, tell your customers that the odor is very strong, that there is a significant amount of VOCs and to plan accordingly.
On the plus side, when I called about the pungent odor,
Elizabethton Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
brought a fan to put in the window and it helped a lot.
Luckily, the work was done during the summer and all windows stayed open.
I would hire

The cabinets are gorgeous and fit perfectly. I had some finishing details to have completed on the cabinetry and the
Elizabethton Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
cabinet installer was extremely professional and a perfectionist in getting finishing touches completed. Vlad, the salesman, is extremely courteous and goes out of his way to help. Just today,he came out to my house to give me a hand. A can opener had jammed the island drawer from opening. I stopped by the
Elizabethton Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
office while doing some errands today and met with Vlad. Before scheduling a work order, he dropped everything to come to the house to assess the problem himself. He was here for about 1/2 hour and was able to dislodge the opener without harm to the cabinets. I had been trying for a couple of weeks to get the drawer to open! I was so pleased with his problem solving skills. Vlad is a very nice man to work with and I appreciate all he has done to make my kitchen remodel wonderful.

When we decided to remodel our 53 year old bathroom we interviewed several remodeling contractors. Our decision to go with
Elizabethton Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
LC turned out to be a great choice. Contractor,
Elizabethton Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
, said they could do the job in just three days! That seemed almost impossible! The team came in the first morning and tore out the room down to the stud walls and prepared the old tub space for a new shower...in just a few hours. The crew was very efficient and we were very impressed with their expertise. They were considerate of us and friendly. They were not reticent about working long hours and cleaned up the work space at the end of each day. Their work was impeccable. We would recommend
Elizabethton Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
very highly. We love our beautiful bathroom and, yes!, they were able to complete the job in three long days. The total job included installation of the shower, with porcelain tile walls, and, shower doors, new vanity and toilet with some new plumbing fixtures. Installation was done of the vanity, mirror/medicine cabinet, vanity lights, new flooring, fan, all the small items ie: towel and grab bars, etc. and ending with wall and ceiling paint. Although cost was not our major issue with the remodel, it did matter, and compared with other bids, turned out very favorably. As we said, if one wants a truly professional remodel,
Elizabethton Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
could not be a better choice!

Never had a
Elizabethton Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
to review the work. I purchased this deal in May 2014 and it took a few months just to get contacted. The message was to call
Elizabethton Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
and I did this and left a message after multiple calls with a full voicemail. It took several more months before I ever heard back and this was after a few more tries to contact them.
Move to 2015, I recontacted after the snow melted and waited a month for a response that gave me some dates that were available. Upon replying to this message, I never heard back until I sent a threatening e-mail and voicemail when no responses were received.
Elizabethton Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
apologized and we set a date for in
Elizabethton Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
. The Friday before the Monday they were supposed to start,
Elizabethton Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
calls and says he made a mistake and that he double booked me on the schedule and the other booking was booked first and we had to reschedule for another month out. At this point I said okay, but then performed the work myself.
I have a ton of patience, as this story took more than a year, but I am truly amazed they are even in business and have read multiple similar reviews to this. Buyer beware. I asked Angie's list to refund and purchased a different offer instead. It took 5 minutes and was painless. Thank you Angie's list for making one part of this process feel good.

My husband and I are highly pleased with the quality workmanship of
Elizabethton Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
Designs! We now have a gorgeous, polished bathroom as well as complete repair of water damage caused by the shoddy workmanship of the previous (business unknown to us) shower installation. We were invited to view their work at every step, and asked whether we were satisfied. I recommend
Elizabethton Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
Designs to anyone searching for a trustworthy company with many, many design options, and experienced personnel (We had
Elizabethton Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
as ours) who will sit down with you for as long as you need and guide you artistically as well, even if you come with only a vague notion of what you want. You will get honest, hard work from the workmen they appoint---I was amazed at how clean they left the surrounding areas every day when they left! You will NOT be disappointed! We are happy they were in our area!

All went fine. No particular issues. Contractor asked for small increase over the advertised price, due to there being two layers of tile on the existing floor. Price seemed to be fair. Workers were courteous, and showed up when they said they would. Tile installation came out looking very good.
