"There is a reason they have been in business since 1979, and they proved it to my family without question today. I met with
(management)" for our quote, and gathered a few more from other reputable companies. His quote was a bit higher than our others, but I also had a friend refer them to me. So...I consulted Angie's List. The recent reviews were disappointing, and when I mentioned this to
, he fought for my business - and won it. For background, we have ~1,800 sq ft and are the 2nd owners. The original owner liked to get in the attic to make electrical repairs/changes - and often fell through the ceiling. To say we had a lot of ceiling patches is putting it mildly. Combine the patches with popcorn, and we had a big job to get done! The crew left 30 minutes ago and I couldn't wait to write this review (had to stop walking around with my jaw hanging open)! They were absolutely the right company to handle our messy ceiling. We had a crew of 5-very professional men who were clearly a very experienced group that work together frequently. They worked quickly, efficiently, and with great attitudes. They could not have been nicer to me throughout the day, allowing me to photograph each phase, and entertain my many questions. They arrived at 9:15a (given a window of 9-9:30a) and left at 6:30p. I cannot believe they accomplished so much in 1-day, even for five people. They even ran into issues that were outside of what was expected and did not cut corners, but actually added work to their plates in order to provide the best possible outcome. The end result is stunning, absolutely stunning. We are not a family who can part with $3k lightly, and are careful about who we welcome into our home for contract work. My hope is that someone is able to feel a bit more comfortable with deciding to go with
given the wonderful experience we've just had with them. Should our future home(s) require drywall work, they will be the first company. we call. Without question or hesitation.

"Everything went fine, work was exceptional and the price was in line with the quality of the work (meaning if you want the cheapest price, you probably going to" get lower quality work, this was exceptional work)

Drywall and plaster

Knowing how your interior walls are constructed and what they are made of can help you take better care of your home, as well as provide effective maintenance. You can make small repairs yourself, but the more extensive the job the more likely you'll need a drywall repair contractor to make the wall smooth again.

Dear Angie: Who can I hire to remove a popcorn ceiling? How is it done and what will it cost? — Jonathan H. of Woodland Hills, California, and Marcia E. of Altamonte Springs, Florida

Are those small Styrofoam balls on your ceiling bugging you? You can remove them yourself, or hire a drywall pro.

These service providers are your best bet to patch drywall or plaster holes that plumbers, electricians and other service providers may create while working.

You may prefer the lived-in look, but a hole in the wall makes your home look a little too lived in. A pro tells how to repair a hole yourself and save money.

?
My sister-in-law uses brite white toothpaste and rubs it into those small holes. No prep, no sanding.
?

I've used wall liner (it applies like wallpaper only thicker) to cover a multitude of "wall sins" over the years. In my opinion it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. It doesn't look cheap or tacky, it's inexpensive, non-labor intensive and not messy to install.

I used it for the first time about 15 years ago to cover a faux brick tile on my lower kitchen walls that couldn't be removed. It was either tear the wall down or take a chance on $40 worth of wall liner. It did the job beautifully and lasted. Since then I've used it to cover paneling, a badly gouged wall after a kitchen remodel and a wall that looked like a pegboard after floor to ceiling shelving was removed.

Friends and family (and realtors!) have been amazed by the transformation after applying this simple inexpensive product.

?

Remember, you not only have to remove the popcorn texture, but also redo the ceiling in some other texture.

Price will depend on several factors:

1) how much the contractor you choose hates removing popcorn or textured ceilings - some charge $1 or so/SF extra just because they hate it. There are even some who bid total drywall replacement cheaper than removing the popcorn, so you have to first find contractors who are happy to do that work, or your prices will be out of the realistic range

2) if the popcorn predates about 1990, then it could likely have asbestos in it, which doubles or triples the price, and in many cases uncapsulating it with a spray coating and then removing the drywall entirely is actually cheaper than all the protective measures necessary if it is scraped off.

3) whether the popcorn is primarily gypsum and vermiculite (comes off REAL easy) or was the plaster of paris variety, which takes a fair amount of soaking to soften it enough to scrape off

4) what type of finish you are replacing it with - if a textured ceiling, slapcoat, knockdown finish or paneling, not real problem. If you want to go with a perfectly smooth ceiling (generally a bad idea as any variations in the drywall on a ceiling surface really shows up dramatically), then it will demand a lot of care in preparing the scraped surface, and a complete surface drywall compound skim coat to smooth out the scrapes and gouges from the removal process.

5) what underlying conditions are - if there is a lot of furniture to move around (should go to adjacent rooms) or cover and work around, high-quality rug or hardwood floor to super-protect or such, will drive cost up.

I have seen costs run from as low as $0.60/SF to $1.25/SF (for removal only). Generally, remove and recoat with a surface texture of some kind (anything but smooth) and paint will run you about $2.50-3.50/SF.

Now the bad news - if asbestos containing, can run from $5-10/SF. Many homeowners in that situation go the other legal route - have it encapsulated with an asbestos-rated sealant by an asbestos contractor, then paint it and leave it for the next homeowner to decide what to do about it. Some contractors encapsulate it and then put a 1/4" thick drywall layer over it - this usually looks like a disaster unless it has a VERY rough textured finish on it, because putting drywall sheet over a rough surface like popcorn invariably means a wavy surface commonly looks like a gently rolling ocean surface.

Chattanooga Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
was responsive during storms and as thorough as any of the other vendors we've tried. The team was responsive to feedback and kept us safe through the worst winter. We needed to do some detail work ourselves to make sure vents were clear but
Chattanooga Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
took care of the heavy lifting. It took awhile to lock in a final contract -
Chattanooga Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
was very responsive in sending an initial draft but took some following up to get the clarifications we were looking for. Still, we decided to go with them because their rates were competitive, reasonable, and they made multiple trips to deal with build up in the event of larger storm.

I contacted
Chattanooga Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
to complete ceiling repairs. I sent
Chattanooga Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
pictures of the damage and he provided an estimate of $160. I was OK with the cost, but
Chattanooga Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
was not able to fix it as soon as I needed the work to be completed. We had new carpet coming in a week and I needed to get the ceiling repaired prior to installation. Based on what others had written about
Chattanooga Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
's services on Angies List I would have selected him based on those ratings and his quote was very reasonable. However, the time factor did not allow me pursue his services further.
Chattanooga Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
was very professional and I would contact him in the future should the need arise again.

Chattanooga Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
repaired the first floor ceiling under a 2nd floor toilet that had plumbing issues. The plumber pocked a hole in the ceiling to let
the water flow out. It was necessary for
Chattanooga Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
to replace a section approximately 3 ft square where the water had bowed the sheet rock. It required two trips to finish the job.
Chattanooga Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
had the skills to fix the problem, the right equipment (large rotary dust free sander) and the professional attitude to get the job done right the first time. The price was exceptional considering I had another service tech that came to the house to view the damage who gave me a quote of $450.

After the last big rainstorm, hail damaged my roof and my kitchen ceiling was all wet as well as other spots around my ceilings. My insurance company essentially gave me the money for repairs and told me to pick who I wanted to do the work. I studied Angie's list for a day or so and finally called a few what looked like all around repair companies to do all the work.
Chattanooga Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
from
Chattanooga Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
services came out and after talking to him, decided to go with them.
If anyone finds themselves in the same spot I was, I wouldn't hesitate to hire this company. They aren't a red neck fly by night company that comes in and takes all your money and runs off. They are honest and very professional. Their crews have been with them many years and are dedicated repair specialists who do their jobs right.

Called for an estimate. Had to call 7 times before I got anyone on the line, and never received a call back when I left messages. It seems they are quite busy. No estimate provided because they will not do work where
Chattanooga Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
work has already been started. I'm a single female and have been doing my own
Chattanooga Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
on the walls of a small office. I cannot do the ceiling myself so was looking to hire someone to do a few sheets of
Chattanooga Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
on the ceiling and finishing mud and tape on the other walls. While I can understand them not wanting to finish the
Chattanooga Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
that I put up, the
Chattanooga Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
on the ceiling would be new work. They wanted to charge $60 to come out an give me an estimate, which I have not experienced from any of the other contractors I have worked with while renovating my entire home. They most definitely gave me the impression that they did not want the work. Note that they do not do any skim coat work either, if you are looking for that service.

Had extensive dry wall repair in entire house and two story stair well. The job took seven days to complete. Several areas required that dry wall be cut out and replaced.
Chattanooga Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
did an excellent job matching wall textures, tape, floating, etc. Would hire him again and would recommend him.

Chattanooga Drywall Contractors Provider Name Locked
was great about replacing it. I was on a bit of a tight schedule due to selling the home and he was able to accommodate me. Very reasonable price which included product and labor. Worked quickly and was pleasant and professional. Would definitely call again.
