, the owner, at the end of
. On his webpage, he advertises his experience putting together IKEA kitchens. I went to his house. He had forgot our appointment, but was willing to meet with me for a few minutes. During our meeting I stressed to him that I was open to his ideas but wanted to keep costs down.
asked for a $1,000 deposit to start designing the kitchen and had me sign a contract that allowed him to keep the retainer if I didn't use him for building/installing the project. After providing the check, I expected the design and estimate by the end of the week. It took
2 months to send me a design and work estimate.
designed a kitchen that with installation costs would be at least $27,000. This design used IKEA cabinets. That estimate was well over the budget we discussed. I asked
if he could make modifications to the design so it would cost no more than $20,000. He assured me that he could do that and he would provide me an estimate in under 48 hours. When I asked him how the design would change to meet the budget, he said it didn't need to be modified. I waited for 48 hours and received nothing. It took him two weeks to present me with another estimate. The difference with this estimate was he was using his own cabinets instead of IKEA. The quote for the kitchen was still $27,000.
stated that he was still willing to work something out as far as a design....But even using IKEA he couldn't hit a $20,000 price point for a kitchen of my size. By that point I was past the time

and his crew did great work! Job was finished quickly and on budget. I would recommend them to other homeowners for any kitchen or bath project.

Not really.  If the contractor is very careful and you are really lucky he might be able to pull them out and then reinstall them after the new cabinets are installed.  A lot of this will have to do with how well the counters were installed in the first place.  Also, the existing countertops may not line up with the new cabinets exactly in some areas as well as they do now.  The better option is to have the cabinets refaced, leaving the boxes and tops in place.  Unlless you have deteriorating particle board cabinets you should be able to get a carpenter to do this.  If you decide to remove the countertops and install new cabinets factor in new tops and be pleasantly surprised if they can be reinstalled afterall.  Realize you probably won't find a contractor willing to gurantee not damaging the tops.  If you do, dig in and research him well.  He likely doesn't have enough experience.

IF dirty enough to make for a musty odor, then paint won't stick to them properly anyway. Paint is not your solution - you probably need a Deep Cleaning. Try to pin down what types of smell it is - if damp, mildewy; rotten food; or musty fabric - will help guide you to the source maybe. Another thing to do is keep all doors closed for a full day when outside temp is such that furnace and A/C can be turned off - then walk around the house, sniffing - preferably with 2 people - and see if one room is the major contributor. I have played this game, and found all the following as sources of musty smells: 1) linen in a closet without ventilation going slightly mildewy 2) water leak in walls or floors enough to cause mold but not drywall staining or visible water 3) carpets needing cleaning 4) water leak in bath or kitchen leaking under floor, causing mold there which is not pronounced in smell because under the flooring 5) attic mildew/mold from leaks or moisture condensation on insulation/wood 6) moldy plants outside - left in garden/flower bed in fall, so rotted in winter/spring 7) clothes in closets touching outside wall, so in very cold weather acted as insulator and let freezing front come to inside of wall, causing frost and moisture to buildup there from the inside moisture, eventually causing mildew/mold (same process as condensation/ice on inside of windows with curtains over them) 8) failure to clean behind kitchen appliances and under sink, or under washer/dryer/dishwasher at least when repaired or changed out 9) heavy lint accumulation in bathroom fan going mildewy 10) grease trap in kitchen exhaust fan never cleaned 11) washing machine going moldy - run a cycle of towels or such with bleach and Borax 12) the number one cause I have found - clothes stacked in closets or hope chests or such for decades get very musty even if clean and ventilated

As long as the counter is big enough Corian is one of the easier ones to work with. Since it does not have the ground or crushed stone that some of the other material have you can work with normal woodworking tools. A saw with a fine tooth carbide blade and a professional grade router with the proper shaped carbde bit can be used if the edge needs finishing. A belt sander helps on cuts also. The only problem you might have is if you need the joint kits for seaming as I dont think you can buy them.

When Corian first came out I could buy the slabs and fabricate my own tops and then Dupont went to a certified distributor system and would no longer sell to those of us that had been working with it for years. I will admit that they did have reasons for this as not all that were working with the product were doing it right.

Cabinet Making reviews in Alcoa

This is an update to the review I submitted last year. Unbelievably, it got worse with time.

We never heard from
Alcoa Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
about rectifying his shoddy work. He never kept his word about quality. Ever.

About two months ago, we were asleep and heard a huge crash in the house in the middle of the night. When we investigated, we found
Alcoa Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
's mantel on the floor of the living room. He had merely glued the mantel to the bricks. No other support. It stayed in place barely a year. When it crashed, the urn containing our son's ashes broke, along with two lovely pieces of amethyst Depression glass and other display items.

This is a Hall of Shame job. Unbelievable.

Fantastic work. Top notch quality and design. Close attention to detail.

It went very well. We moved into this home in April, 2015. The home has Corian countertops (not my favorite). The counters were scratched and needed a good sanding. I could not find anyone to do the work. Unless a vendor installed the counters they would not service them. I had worked with
Alcoa Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
in our last home so gave them a call for advice. Within days they had arranged to have the work done. When I decide to change countertops, I will call them for sure. They are excellent!

Project went smoothly. Workmen were all careful, reliable, knowledgeable, and pleasantto deal with. Through a misunderstanding, the company failed to glaze the cabinets onthe island, but when I called this omission to their attention when I first saw the finishedcabinets, they removed the door and drawers fronts, took them back to their shop, andglazed them, reinstalling them just a few days later. The refacing of the cabs not on theisland was done in 4 days, and it was not necessary to empty most of the cupboardsand drawers first, making this a much faster and less disruptive experience than havingall-new cabinets installed, not to mention cheaper. Caveat:

The house is 114 years old and I had them refinish the back hallway. They built two custom cabinets where the icebox was and tile the floor. There was a lot of minor damage from the last 100 years as well that they repaired. I was very pleased with the work that was done, everything was explained to me, additional costs and repairs were pointed out as well.

We found
Alcoa Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
Cabinets on Houzz.com and were very excited to see their work in person after watching the videos they had on their website. After visiting their shop in
Alcoa Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
we were convinced that the quality of their cabinets was what we wanted for our home. We signed a contract with
Alcoa Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
in early April and requested a delivery date of last week in June. They agreed that they would call us 3-4 weeks in advance of their 'final measure' so that we could work with our remodeling contractor to get the existing kitchen cleared. On 6/2 we got a call from
Alcoa Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
saying that they were ready to come out and do the final measure and deliver our cabinets. That left us scrambling to get things scheduled quickly with the remodeling contractor since
Alcoa Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
did NOT give us the 3-4 weeks advance notice.
Our remodeling contractor was booked out until early
Alcoa Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
so we weren't able to start kitchen demolition until

6th. I let
Alcoa Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
Alcoa Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
Cabinets know and he worked with us to get our final measure scheduled. Once the final measure was done it all went downhill. After the final demolition our kitchen sat empty for almost a month waiting for the cabinets that we'd previously been told were ready. Multiple times we heard the excuse "my 5 best guys called in" when they'd miss the expected delivery dates that they quoted us. And then once they started to deliver cabinets it wasn't a one time trip. We're now at October 9th and STILL aren't completely finished with the installation because they keep only completing parts of the job but leaving other things undone. The cabinets that we do have in now are beautiful, and seem very well constructed. So the problem I have is not with the quality, but with the experience working with the company.

This company has the potential to deliver great quality cabinets and make a ton of money, but they can't get their act together. They constantly make commitments that they don't keep. Multiple times they've called and expected us just to get out of work to come let their guys in at a moment's notice.
If you consider buying from this company please know the following that we experienced:
Alcoa Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
is a great salesman. He will make you believe in the quality of the products and the company. But once you sign the contract he turns you over to
Alcoa Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
or Eriver who deal with you after you've signed and given the 50% deposit.
Alcoa Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
genuinely seems to want to do the right thing for the customer, but he's overwhelmed with the volume of work. To me this indicates that
Alcoa Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
is signing too many customers without the ability to meet the commitments.
3. Once you get to the point where your cabinets are ready to be installed you are turned over to Eriver. Eriver is very erratic in his behavior. In my experience he was not organized, didn't know what need to be completed, and wouldn't commit to when other things would be complete.
4. You will NOT get the timeline you want. No matter what they say they'll commit to they will be late (probably very late).
5. Their sub-contractors, in some cases, are not very careful. We had a couple of things broken by them but in fairness when I let Eriver know they were good about remedying the situation.
6. The quality of their cabinets is very good. You just have to weigh whether you're willing to put up with all of the rest for this quality.
Overall, I cannot recommend
Alcoa Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
Cabinets given our experience.

Alcoa Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
came out shortly after my call and gave me a proposal, which I accepted. He listened to my wish list and came up with a design that was slightly unusual, but met my needs perfectly. His estimated delivery/install date was several weeks out. He actually completed the job a week early. The finished product was excellent and we are very happy with it. Above and beyond,
Alcoa Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
was a very pleasant to work with and quite responsive to phone and e-mail communications. I would definitely recommend him to others.

Ok but workmanship was not that good. Pulled out kitchen cabinet and cut it down and installed doors. After departure I realized that back of cabinet was not connected to bottom of cabinet. Also reinstallation of wood pieces adjacent to wall left these pieces chipped in places.
