"Price is a guestimate based on what the overall kitchen costs were. The company was contracted out by our building landlord to create a kitchen in a small room" that already had water and electricity to it. We worked with the landlord's space designer to specify what we wanted (dimensions, style, finish...everything) and once we approved the plans, the landlord contracted out with this company for the cabinetry. I am writing this review about 4 years after the work was done as I plan to get a quote from them for some custom cabinetry for my house. I have been very pleased with the craftsmanship and the cabinets have held up well. We did have some problems but they did get resolved in a timely manner and to my satisfaction - and there are usually issues that do need to get resolved so how a company handles them is important. Overall they came on time and were minimally disruptive to my office. A lot of the work was done off-hours. I had two problems, one minor, one not so minor, both involving installation. One of the countertop pieces did not fit due to the lack of square walls. Countertop was surrounded on three sides with an already standing wall. The worker who trimmed the piece to size didn't use the proper method/tools and thus the laminate was chipped at that
. Installed it anyway. I pointed that out to the landlord and the landlord had the company re-do that piece. I was there when the worker cut and installed it, however my communication was not with this company but with the landlord who was footing the bill. The other was a safety issue. The company did install bracing to the walls behind the wall cabinets. Unfortunately the cabinets above the sink were installed with the top screwscompletely missing the bracing altogether and thus these cabinets and the massive weight were being held by two lower screws into the bracing and the two top ones into only drywall. This was due to the installer installing the cabinets about 1 1/2" too high thus not to the exact specifications, not paying attention to how the screws didn't hit any fortification, nor putting enough screws in to ensure the cabinets could handle the weight from above. Well now there are several more in each cabinet. Fortunately those cabinets fell on a weekend when no-one was in the office - but didn't come crashing to the floor, as our Keurig coffee maker (didn't get damaged!) and our paper towel dispenser were in the downward path and the cabinets got hung up on those two items or the cabinets themselves may have damaged the counter and cabinets below them. They tipped significantly but only dropped downwards about 4-5" before getting wedged into the side walls. Landlord contact the company and they came out, remounted the cabinets, repaired the wall. All to my satisfaction. Yes, it could have had a very unhappy ending, and though all the bracing was checked and some refortification done, we no longer store such heavy items on top.

"Easy to work with. Provided a wide selection of materials from which to choose and good information about the pros and cons of the various choices.
" provided very detailed and professional service. He also worked well with our general contractor to fine tune the design and arrange for timely delivery of cabinetry and countertops.

Not really.  If the contractor is very careful and you are really lucky he might be able to pull them out and then reinstall them after the new cabinets are installed.  A lot of this will have to do with how well the counters were installed in the first place.  Also, the existing countertops may not line up with the new cabinets exactly in some areas as well as they do now.  The better option is to have the cabinets refaced, leaving the boxes and tops in place.  Unlless you have deteriorating particle board cabinets you should be able to get a carpenter to do this.  If you decide to remove the countertops and install new cabinets factor in new tops and be pleasantly surprised if they can be reinstalled afterall.  Realize you probably won't find a contractor willing to gurantee not damaging the tops.  If you do, dig in and research him well.  He likely doesn't have enough experience.

IF dirty enough to make for a musty odor, then paint won't stick to them properly anyway. Paint is not your solution - you probably need a Deep Cleaning. Try to pin down what types of smell it is - if damp, mildewy; rotten food; or musty fabric - will help guide you to the source maybe. Another thing to do is keep all doors closed for a full day when outside temp is such that furnace and A/C can be turned off - then walk around the house, sniffing - preferably with 2 people - and see if one room is the major contributor. I have played this game, and found all the following as sources of musty smells: 1) linen in a closet without ventilation going slightly mildewy 2) water leak in walls or floors enough to cause mold but not drywall staining or visible water 3) carpets needing cleaning 4) water leak in bath or kitchen leaking under floor, causing mold there which is not pronounced in smell because under the flooring 5) attic mildew/mold from leaks or moisture condensation on insulation/wood 6) moldy plants outside - left in garden/flower bed in fall, so rotted in winter/spring 7) clothes in closets touching outside wall, so in very cold weather acted as insulator and let freezing front come to inside of wall, causing frost and moisture to buildup there from the inside moisture, eventually causing mildew/mold (same process as condensation/ice on inside of windows with curtains over them) 8) failure to clean behind kitchen appliances and under sink, or under washer/dryer/dishwasher at least when repaired or changed out 9) heavy lint accumulation in bathroom fan going mildewy 10) grease trap in kitchen exhaust fan never cleaned 11) washing machine going moldy - run a cycle of towels or such with bleach and Borax 12) the number one cause I have found - clothes stacked in closets or hope chests or such for decades get very musty even if clean and ventilated

As long as the counter is big enough Corian is one of the easier ones to work with. Since it does not have the ground or crushed stone that some of the other material have you can work with normal woodworking tools. A saw with a fine tooth carbide blade and a professional grade router with the proper shaped carbde bit can be used if the edge needs finishing. A belt sander helps on cuts also. The only problem you might have is if you need the joint kits for seaming as I dont think you can buy them.

When Corian first came out I could buy the slabs and fabricate my own tops and then Dupont went to a certified distributor system and would no longer sell to those of us that had been working with it for years. I will admit that they did have reasons for this as not all that were working with the product were doing it right.

Custom Cabinet Making reviews in Alcoa

Creation Cabinets was wonderful to work with. They were very attentive.
The cabinets are beautifully made and structurally very strong.

could sit with me and design cabinets on his CAD program and make small changes that would better fit the space. It was an on-going discussion as we discovered the surprises of working on an older house.
They were delivered on time, installed really well and because were were rehabbing a 60 year old house, they adapted to any surprises with the house. They worked well with all the other subs too.
We asked them to incorporate antique glass windows into the design of the dining room built ins and they worked hard to make them look perfect.
If you are serious about good cabinets that will wear really well go and check out their work shop. The quality of manufacture is amazing.

It was fine! They completed the job in 10-12 weeks. The job took longer than expected, but it wasn't their fault.

We had a really terrible experience. It took over 3 months to have our cabinets installed in our 11' x 11' kitchen. We lived without a kitchen for 6 months and it was complete h***.
Alcoa Cabinet Makers Provider Name Locked
would show up for a couple hours every few weeks and work, and then we wouldn't hear from Pat for weeks. No response to phone calls, email, or texts. It was common for him to set up a time to work on install and then never show up, without even the courtesy of a phone call. The communication was completely unacceptable, and it made the whole experience really painful and frustrating. The initial project was for wall cabinets, but we had asked for a quote to add on a built- in pantry cabinet about a month before he was supposed to start the install. It took about 2 days to get our first quote for the whole kitchen, and I'd bet this quote would have taken him about 10 minutes to do. Despite reminding him about it every time we communicated for at least 2 months, he never did give us the quote. We finally came to the conclusion that he just didn't want to do it, although he never told us that. So we dropped it. The final install happened when we wrote him a letter after not hearing from him for a month. We genuinely thought he was abandoning the job and we were taking the first steps to cut things off so that we could find another company to finish the work. We were really desperate to get this project done. He did respond quickly and made and effort to finish the remaining work. He ended up giving us the doors to the pantry cabinet we'd asked him to quote as a "gift" for taking so long to install the cabinets. We really appreciated it, but when one of them turned out to be warped, we were pretty bummed. Yeah, they were free but they don't look that great when one doesn't line up well with the other. The final straw was when we tried to install our fridge, and it didn't fit. We had given him the exact dimensions and everything so there is no reason this should have happened. Now we are stuck trying to sell our fridge and find something else that is more narrow but still as tall as the one we had purchased, so that it will still have the custom look. It's such a pain!
