"Our 2003
side-by-side stopped working Tuesday evening, Feb 24. The interior light worked, but all cooling functions stopped working. We unplugged" the refrigerator, and called
service 800 number on Wednesday morning. We were less than pleased with the
800 service call. It would be Friday morning, Feb 27, before a service technician could visit our home, and that a diagnostic call would cost $95. Later in the day we decided to see if Angie's list had any references to repairmen who would work on a
brand. (Many won't). We called
at about 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb 25. I was impressed that the owner,
, answered the phone himself, and was very responsive. He said he was finishing a job and could be at our home in 30 minutes. He plugged the refrigerator in, and amazingly, it started working. Not being satisfied,
performed diagnostics to determine the cause of the shutdown. He opined that the thermostat or computer might be the cause, gave us many good tips for maintaining our refrigerator properly, and monitored its function for about an hour.
was very professional, friendly, and genuinely interested in his customer (us). We wish more vendors could be cloned with
.

"I had been putting up with this washer for months. Online research indicate it might be a clog or it could be a computer issue, and that failure to drain is a common" problem. I had pretty much convinced myself of the computer issue and thought I might have to replace the machine, which is eight or nine years old but only gets used once, sometimes twice a week. Washers have gone up in price and ordering from
in the past was a really bad experience, so I was resisting buying a new one. The washer would not spin and rinse. I would put it on drain repeatedly(after washing), and let the hose run out on the garage floor and gradually get rid of the water. Once in awhile it would spin and drain, giving me hope. It had gotten worse and it was hard to get the machine to drain completely no matter what I did. Somehow it had not occurred to me that there were individuals providing appliance repair, but when it did I found
through Angie's and life is good again. He gave me a 5% discount for being an Angie's List member. He also suggested washing machine cleaner to get rid of scum that can build up in the machine where you can't see it. I went online and saw Amazon reviews of these products. I did the first wash in hot water with bleach and I think it did remove a slight odor. The moral of this story is, keep your dog, don't stress and don't wait--call
and your problem will be gone.(He left a magnetic gizmo with his name and name and number on the machine which will be helpful in the future.) My machine is like new now.

If the ducts are venting through a window I'm assuming the duct work is all easily accessible.  Lowe's and Home Depot sell a cleaning kit that uses an electric drill to spin the brush as it goes through the ductwork.  I've found it to work quite well and you can do it yourself.  It may take a few passes the first time to get everything out if it has been a while since it was last cleaned.  Just make sure you get all of the loose lint out after running the brush through from both ends and you're good to go.  Please note that if the line is not hard but rather a flex duct line you can easily puncture a whole in it with this kit and will do better to clean it by hand.

As stated above, it can vary between companies.

Typically just an inspection implies you do not have a contract or agreement that may include discounts or free repairs.

With our company you would get the annual maintenace service that you should do every year, and if repairs are needed, they are extra, but you aviod paying a "service call charge" that would be related to most repairs, because you are paying for the "inspection" and we are already on site.

Inspections are often discounted in the slow seasons, and can usually be found advertised , at reduced prices , on Angie's List.

So consider Angie's List and find the best of the best in HVAC contractors!

I have never seen one of this type that does not exit the house. You would not want the grease dumping into your basement, even with a filter it will happen.

The greater part of your job will be carpentry as if there is a wall behind the stove a hole will have to be cut up through the basement into the wall up to the stove. Unless it is one of the stoves that allows for it to fit inside a cabinet below. To answer correctly most here would be a picture of where this project is being done. I have done motorized ones that extend up out of the counter when in use and then retract. Those exit through the cabinet and require the cook top is to the front of the counter and not a drop in one

As an added note these tend to be better as they do not pull the heat away from the stove top when in use as much as the ones flush with the stove. I have install quite a few and happen to have an Amana cook top with built in down draft and I have to shut it of to get water to boil on the back burners.

A carpenter will know what can be cut and what not in the basement, a sheet metal contractor should know as well but at the other end for the finish by the stove they might not. Most carpenters that do kitchens have installed the minimal amount of duct work for this. They just have to be carefull with the number of ellbows and the lenght of the duct.

Called
Sturgis Appliance Repair Experts Provider Name Locked
on Monday morning and he wanted me to describe the problem so he could determine if it was worth it for me to pay the service charge for him to come out. (in the past I had an A/C problem which he said was not worth fixing over the phone at no charge). He came to the house later in the day and determined that the solenoid valve in the dishwasher needed to be replaced, probably due to freezing. Said he had to get the part and would return later in the week. Called and returned on Wednesday to complete the repair. He explained what he did and made recommendations to avoid a recurrence of the problem.

Very professional and had all of the required parts with him in the truck, which made him very efficient. Discount offered for first time service. Plumber also showed us how to fix

things for future reference. Pricing is very straightforward and is applied using the same standard across the board. Would definitely use again for the service given and the peace of mind aoffered after a job well done.

arrived a little late due to unforeseen work at the previous job. He apologized, and immediately went to work examining the washer. He was courteous, friendly, thorough, and very professional. He told me I needed a new motor and timer, which I had already suspected. He also answered all questions I had concerning whether or not to buy a new machine or replace parts in the old one. I decided to replace the parts. He ordered them immediately and returned two days later to replace. He came on time, did the work quickly, and was out of here in about an hour.

Couldn't have been better -- personable, professional, quick response, problem fixed immediately. I gave them the model info on my machine over the phone, so the fella had the right part --- easy-peasy, very satisfied.

This is the third time in 8 months we've called Automatic (our new house has a lot of old appliances). Every time has been an excellent experience.
When our fridge was on the

and

were helpful in diagnosing the problem to try to avoid a visit but eventually we found one was needed. I like their clear, up-front, flat rate visit charge. When the tech arrived, he found that the fridge had experience the equivalent of a stroke and although it was limping along, would not be worth repairing. There was no push to sell me parts or anything new which eased the pain of having to replace the fridge.
When we called about a malfunctioning washing machine, we figured out over the phone that considering the age and model of the washer (a repair-prone one), it did not make sense for a tech to even make a visit. It was nice to not have to spend money on a visit to learn we needed a new washer.
Finally, this past week, our oven stopped lighting consistently. The repair tech diagnosed the problem in 5 minutes and quoted us the cost of a new part with a helpful story about replacing the same part in his

(the same model) every couple of years. He provided the information we needed to decide whether to prolong the life of the existing

or start shopping for a new one. Again, no pressure to make a sale or even make the repair.
In each instance, everyone I worked with was very pleasant, helpful and professional. There were never any surprises and the few times that I've had to leave a message, I've been called back very quickly. My only complaint is that they didn't leave a fridge magnet or business card so I have their info handy the next time we need to call (because we will need to!), and I won't hesitate to call Automatic again.

Wonderful. They work Saturdays at no extra charge so I didn't need to take off work. They call and give a 2 hour window so I could do errands. They are professional, nice, the young guy explains everything. The old guy doesn't waste time and gets the work done quickly and efficiently.

We had a 1 1/2 year old top of the line Whirlpool stainless steel microwave hood combo. The handle came loose from the door. The attaching screw was burried inside the door. I called
Sturgis Appliance Repair Experts Provider Name Locked
and they quoted $79 to come for a service call. The tech arrived the next day as scheduled. He spent about 45 minutes removing the door and taking it apart. The door was multiple layers snap fit together. With it apart he found a plastic boss holding the mounting screw had cracked. Whirlpool supplies a metal clip to substitute for the plastic boss. (It must be a known problem.) He installed the clip and reassembled the door. Overall it took a little over an hour in total. The total charge was $79 as quoted. He said if he had relaced the door, the door itself is $200. I was impressesed with his knowledge and honesty. The charge was very reasonable.

Excellent. Rich diagnosed the problem over the phone and over to repair it the same day. I had my washing machine working in no time. He saved me a trip to laundry mat. I would definitely recommend this company, there are very dedicated and committed.
