Tile

Whether you want to replace a laminate floor, backsplash, shower stall or countertops, ceramic tile is a durable, easy-to-clean option that can add value to your home. Both ceramic and stone tiles are nearly maintenance free, though grout will need occasional resealing.

Tile flooring

There's nothing classier for a kitchen or bathroom floor than one made of natural tiles. But tile flooring is expensive and does have some disadvantages that homeowners should think about before making a decision on which type of flooring they prefer.

White vinegar, water and a little elbow grease still works best to clean grout and avoid damaging it.

Ceramic Tile

Laying floor tile is as much a skill as it is an art. With time and practice, a handy homeowner can master this task. Start small with a half bathroom, a mudroom or other area, rather than your entire kitchen.

Couldn't be more pleased. They did a great job and were very clean and neat. The room looks fabulous! Highly recommended!

He arrived exactly on time, inspected the floor, and said that he could only determine whether the result I wanted was possible if he picked a section and tried his polishing techniques, which are quite time consuming. I knew a little about tile, and could tell by our conversation that he was both experienced, and knew what he was talking about. We agreed on a price for a finished job, assuming that it was possible to produce the effect I wanted. He worked for over an hour, and to both of our disappointments, when the floor dried after the polishing materials had been rinsed off, it appeared that the problem was not due to deposits, but a breakdown of the tile itself; something that could not have been known at the start of the project. It would require either a complete resurfacing, or replacement, neither of which he was prepared to do. As he had an hour and a half round trip to get here, plus an hour of work, I offered to pay him for his time. I was dumbfounded by his reply. No charge.
I have hired many dozens of craftsmen over the years, and this was the first time anyone had ever told me that because he wouldn't be able to produce the result I wanted, through no fault of his own, but faults in old materials, that there would be no charge. This reflects a pride of craftsmanship that is almost unheard of today. I only wish I had other jobs for him to do--I love to see skilled people in action.

I have used Angies list for years and have hired exclusively Angies list for the services I need. I have had great results and have given fair reviews . Sadly the contractor i used for years relocated to CA so I had to find a new contractor for some tile work I needed done
I hired JEL for this work and this was my experience --
pros...More /> They were very punctual, polite and professional. they worked very efficiently in removing the tile and replacing it and the new floor and baseboards are a big improvement .
cons
my issue with JEL is the communication and responsiveness of this company. through the project there were communication issues ...and some of them were very silly.
for example thin set was all over the backyard tile where the workers cut tile & used the area for a workspace . it was obvious that it was not washing off with a hose...they worked in that area for 4 days . No one brought the issue to me ...the tile workers left the site and left me with this issue which I then tried to remove and when unsuccessful escalated to JEL.

returned promptly with a pressure washer but it was frustrating that I had to bring the issue to them
There was no walk through at the end of the job . They simply announced they were done . The issues I brought to them were minimized by JEL . I did agree to live with one problem as it is "covered up" but I did have one

issue un resolved . I did not state it had to be addressed immediately -- I just wanted a response which I did not get until I tracked them down a few weeks after my work was completed
At the end of the job I sent an email asking what the warranty coverage was for the work that was done . This email was sent at least 3 weeks ago . I brought that up when I talked to them today . I was told told that they are not in front of computers all the time which is a reasonable response EXCEPT for the fact I had sent my email weeks ago
so bottom line they are nice people who do good work but I am used to companies that communicate better and are a little more responsive . I think the score I gave this review is a fair one

Very responsive,we thought the price was high but we're in a hurry so we were okay with the price for a professional job. We questioned the quality of work as the floors were going down. We're constantly told that the end product would be perfect/very professional. They wanted to work late to finish the job instead of coming back the next day. This meant it was 11 by the time they finished, dark so we couldn't really see the quality. Still we could see gaps in the wood and scrapes on the walls. They went around filling in with colored putty. Some of the gaps are over 1/4 inch, lots of putty. We contacted them the next day voicing our concerns. Mainly the gaps on the staircase. We were dismissed and received no remedy. We regret using them and paying the price we paid. Work would be acceptable for a discount price.

WOW..what a pleasure to do business with this company. They came out prior to the work and assessed what needed to be done. They then returned as scheduled and performed the work. Great job. No extras. Could not be more pleased, especially given the difficulty we have had in finding a contractor to provide tile work in the past.

were punctual and very concerned about the dust, cabinets and existing fixtures. They sealed off the kitchen and dust in other parts of the house was minimal. They removed and saved tiles from 90% of the floor and fortunately I had extra from the original install. No new tiles needed to be ordered. They replaced the poorly installed durock (included in his bid), re-laid the tile in a better manner making the grout seams more manageable. They cleaned up each day and did a very nice job of clean up at the end of the job in both the kitchen and the garage.

provided four days of labor and saved me thousands over either having to buy new tile or having an entire floor done from scratch.
