"Getting a bid and setting up the appointment was easy. The actual work itself did not go as well as we'd hoped. Work was supposed to start at noon, then got" pushed back to one, and didn't actually start until 2:30pm. Half the crew arrived on time, the other half arrived much later, and without explanation or apology. The actual removal of the sweetgum went smoothly (no property damage or complications), as did the small fir and olive tree. The wind sailing went fine as well. Where things went sideways was the stump grinding. A separate crew handles the grinding (which is not unusual at all), but after being told the work would be done within 48 hours, the grinding crew didn't arrive until 10 days later. It took a lot of back and forth (several text messages and a call) just to get an ETA on when it would happen. The kicker is that the crew left litter behind. We got a pair of used gloves, a half-bottle of Gatorade, and several cigarette butts on our property as a bonus.

"I was very happy with the services provided. I was contacted promptly after indicating my needs and we negotiated a reasonable price and date for the services to" be performed. The company showed up on time with sufficient staff and completed the job in a professional manner. I am very happy and would hire them again.

4 Situations Where You Need a Professional Tree Trimmer

Not sure if you should trim your own trees? Sometimes your tree problem is best left to a pro whose is trained in maintenance and other complex issues.

Tree Care and Services

Trees grow slowly so you can't afford to make a mistake by planting them in the wrong location or overlooking something that puts the tree at risk. Tree care is something most homeowners can do on their own, but an expert should be called if a tree is showing signs of disease or if limbs need to be removed.

Angie's Answers

I would strongly suggest sending your neighbors a certified letter stating that, per your earlier conversation, you consider this tree to be a hazard due to its proximity to the power lines.  Then, when and if something bad does happen, you will have a record of having informed them of it and they won't be able to say "we didn't know."

You say the county has told you it is the neighbor's problem.  Did you contact the local electric company?  They should care very much about the situation.

I would also recommend taking lots of pictures showing the proximity of the tree to the wires and that it is obviously dead.

Dead trees do sometimes stay vertical for a very long time, but it sounds like a tense situation for you.  I understand your desire to not inflame the situation, but it doesn't sound like there is anything more you can do that won't have the potential to do so.  So it becomes your responsibility to look after your own interests in the most reasonable way possible.

For my money, never ? I do a walk-around yearly in the summer (when easy to work on and before the heavy fall winds in our area) and look for trees with dead crowns, losing branches everywhere but at the crown, brown branches (evergreens) or leafless branches, leaning trees, trees with visible rot, trees with major bark loss, trees with seriously damaged or eroded away roots, etc. If none of those symptoms, then I call our 100 or so trees good for the year.

Of course, the bigger the trees and the likelihood of house damageor powerline loss (especially in winter) if there is a major branch or tree fall comes into play also. I trim and cut my own trees when needed regardless of size, so my level of confidence in being able to handle anything comes into it.

If you are worried about one or more trees, call an arborist to check them out - then I would say unless there is evidence of damage - ESPECIALLY leaning trees or major branches not leafing like the rest of the tree - I would not worry having them looked at more frequently than every 10 years or so.

I called
Sumter Tree Services Provider Name Locked
to request an estimate for the removal of a large pecan tree in my back yard with rear yard and arial access to the tree. He was very professional on the phone, and we arranged for him to come to my house to provide the estimate the next morning. He was punctual - he even called when he was 15 minutes or so away. He provided me with an emailed estimate later that afternoon, which I approved after we agreed to an adjustment to the scope and a clarification of the terms. (One of the stipulations was that I was going to have to

and his crew arrived promptly on the scheduled day, and were done by mid-day. They performed exactly as they agreed to, with the exception that they didn't remove or harm my gardenia bush! I highly recommend

The visit from the gentleman that came to see the tree and gave me the estimate was very professional, he was also and knowledgeable. He got right on time and set the work for the 23 of September. However, last Friday as I got home late from work, I saw the trash can out place. When I checked why, to my pleasant surprise, I saw that the tree was gone! I was a very happy woman. I could not ask for a better service. Right on time for the first visit, a reasonable estimate, and the work done wayyyy ahead of time, Every thing was clean and neat after they left. Great job !

Arrived on time for the estimate. Very friendly and professional. After contracting for the work to be done. The trees were trimmed exactly as we discussed. They also trimmed away dead pieces of a bush that I hadn't brought up and I was very happy! Excellent clean up, too. Above and beyond my expectations and he quoted the most reasonable price. We will use him for all our tree work in the future. Very satisfied

The crew was professional and did a god job. They safely performed work and cleaned up the area as they worked. This is a family company with a large crew of seven men - mostly family members.

and his assistant removed a large stump and root system from the front yard and several small-to-medium stumps on a slope in the back yard. I expressed concern for the stumps on the slope. I was terrified that the machine might flip and cause

reassured me several times that he could take the stumps down with no problem and he did!

Patric was a standup guy. He came back multiple times to make sure all of the poison ivy was removed. He was very specific in his work and make sure his workers were careful in what they were doing.
He is a really busy guy sometimes, which can be frustrating, but it's a sign of how good he is and worth it. You could tell he loves his job and cares about the work he does. Will definitely use again and recommend.

I highly recommend this company for their promptness and professionalism. We had some large trees in our backyard that were in

of possibly destroying our house and neighbor's houses in the event of a severe storm. Mr.
Sumter Tree Services Provider Name Locked
was very pleasant and concerned and scheduled our service quickly despite dealing with rain delays. His guys worked on Saturday and showed up on time, worked quickly and cleaned up the yard better than it was before the tree cutting! They had to use climbing equipment because heavy equipment couldn't reach our yard. They were very skilled and no damage was done to any fences or structures to my or my neighbor's yards. They had to come back a second day to complete the work due to rain, but completed it as agreed. Mr.

was generous in giving us both an Angie's list discount as well as a veteran's discount. He is a man of his word and his employees are loyal, having worked for him for many years. That says alot about a business these days and I would not hesitate to use his services again.
