The scaffolding crew needed about 1.5 days to set it all up, which seemed very efficient. Our whole yard is a garden with no grass, and we lost some plants, but all in all the damage was minimal and could have been a lot worse. They made a real effort to be careful. The pointing crew hung a tarp outside the scaffolding of the side wall that needed serious restoration; this kept the huge amount of sand and dust generated by the grinding under pretty good control. The neighbor on that side was concerned about dust, and the crew went out of their way to respect that. They even washed off the dust from the side of her house and her plants on the dusty days. They color-matched the cement, even the speckles in it, then applies it to the voids between the bricks. Our bricks have a ceramic coating and are not porous, so they wiped the new mortar in with sponges, then sponged off the excess cement so the bricks were clean again. I think and house with porous bricks would need another approach, probably more expensive to apply the mortar only to the spaces between the bricks--so be aware of this if your house has porous bricks. It also seems that some contractors rely more on power washing alone than grinding out the old mortar to create space for the new. We spoke to about 8 contractors before deciding on R & R Masonry, and learned a lot. Our side yard is about 5-6 feet wide, and one neighbor would not allow ladders on his property, thus the scaffolding. But R &
some other contractors use only scaffolding anyway. Duing the job, I asked Mr.
to expand the scope of our contract--like removing drain pipes so he could grind and point behind them, and do more work on walls around the doors so it would look nicer even if not necessary structurally. He gave a good price for the extra work. Be wary of removing drainpipes, as they may need to be replaced for proper re-installation. I had planned to replace them anyway, so no problem. I lined up a roofing contractor with a good reputation to do the new drainpipe installation. I also lined up another contractor I knew from before to install new fascia as the last step in our home improvement project. At first I thought the pointing contractor would do all this work, but learned they tend to specialize, and I would need 3 contractors. Mr
's crew was done in about 10 days, and they removed the scaffolding. He sai he would be willing to leave the scaffolding up for an extra week or so, so the fascia guy could use it. A generous offer, but our fascia guy preferred to use his ladders instead. The R & R crew did a good job of cleaning up after themselves and protecting the plants. Not perfect, but reasonable and we were happy. We only paid $6600 and you don't get zillions of hours of skilled labor for that. The put a lot of time in on the real work, and Mr.
was inspecting the site every day, and giving direction to his workers, very knowledgeable and on top of things, and easy to work with. His workers are organized into several specialized crews, and they do multiple jobs at the same time--very efficient, and obviously we benefited from that efficiency. I recommend this company, and thank them for a job well done.

We had two masons tell us that our chimney was so bad that we needed to tear it down to the roofline and rebuild, to the tune of about $4,000-$5,000.
assured us that the majority of the chimney and all of the cap were in excellent shape, but that it only needed repair in one section. He cut out approximately 60 deteriorating bricks and replaced them with bricks that are an almost perfect match. He protected the roof and covered our skylights. He cleaned up very well after the job was done. Looking at the chimney, it is nearly impossible to tell where the repair was done. We are very pleased with his work and will not hesitate to hire his services again should we desire any masonry work in the future.

built a new double mailbox, after a car crashed into the existing box. The house is brick with some vinyl siding as well and the mailbox was brick. I decided to go with stone and also replaced the siding on the house with matching stone. Rich recommended that I visit the shop that provides stone rather than trying to choose from a photo in a brochure. The ship had all colors and designs on display. I made my deision told the people at the shop which stone I chose. Rich then contacted the shop and provided the measurements. They arrived on time on the day work was to start and finished in a timely manner. They cleaned up any debris. After the mailbox was done I realized there was no flag on the side. They came back and installed a flag at no additional charge. I am very pleased with the outcome of the project and would definitely us them again.

has more stories than Mother Goose and as many excuses. Lie one: I have over 300 mortar samples in my truck. When he showed up he stated the mfgs. had stopped producing a lot of the mortars. Lie two: They still make the brink used in this house. When he showed up he had the wrong color brick. Thank goodness we had a few in the backyard. Lie three: Job will take one day. Had to leave early because he forgot the mortar. Completed the repair (minus the acid wash) the next day. Lie four: Will call the day before I come over. Not! Show up unannounced. Lie five: Described the type of joint as a "V", the joint he left us with looks like he struck it with his finger. Lie six: Mortar will match. NOT! Not even close. When I questioned this he stated he wrote the type of mortar on the bid when I told him that was not what he wrote on the bid he stated "Yes I did!" He then stated he walked around our home with his samples and picked the correct one. When I told him I walked around our home with him and he did not have any sample he quit talking. When I showed him what he wrote he stated that he made a mistake. A mistake mind you that will cost my wife and I to correct. Of course he will not be doing the work. Lie seven: I have a 96.6 rating on Angie's list. NOT He has an "F" and by now you know my our rating will be. Lie eight: Will come by Saturday to do the acid wash. No Show! Lie nine: I called him after two weeks and he stated he would be by the next afternoon. No Show! Lie ten: Sent email about the acid wash. Another excuse. Illness Lie eleven: Emailed again and told him if he was coming by to arrive before noon. Not. He arrived at 4:00 PM told me he mistakenly deleted my email. Why didn't he go to his deleted folder and read? Lie twelve: Mortar joints will match. Not. They are at least 1/4 in wider on both edges totaling one half inch top and bottom. He stated he had to grind the brick down. When question about the repair he stated he could grind some then chisel out the rest. My question to him was why didn't he do that in the first place? I am still waiting for the answer. He offered to have his representative from

to come out and personally match mortar. At this time I sent him packing. The truth is not in this person. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT HIRE THIS PERSON.

They showed up the morning they said they would and the man that gave me the quote for the repair was there doing the job with a second man. The two men finished the job on the second day and when they left everything was as clean as before the got there.

The contractor called me and said they'd be able to do the work while I wasn't there. I had purchased the special of 4 hours of work for $99.00. One day I came home and the work was completed. They matched the existing mortar. I was very happy with the convenience and the work performed.

, the owner, came to provide estimate. Pleasant guy to talk to. While he was there, he asked if I had the survey handy. I showed it to him, and he took a picture via his ipad. The next day I got a call asking me when I wanted to schedule the job. I told him I wanted to get a few more estimates. The next day I got a similar call. This time I was informed that the permit was secured! I questioned why & how. He said that he thought I was ready. I told him that this was not right, and that I will continue to look for other estimates. And that I will pay him for the money spent to obtain the permit if I don't go with him.
I started doing serious research and came across quite a few negative comments against LoChiatto on Google reviews. I called LoChiatto about 6 times over a 2-month period (usually in response to their message about when I want to schedule the job) to f7nd out about their warranties and to talk about the negative reviews.

or the lady who answered the phone would tell me that they will send the requested information via email.
And each time all I got was a copy of the invoice!!!
This left such a distaste in my mouth. I did not have time to deal with this, and lost the will to deal with other contractors. A year later, my driveway is still not done.

returned my call within 2 days and set up a time to come to my house. He gave me an hour window (4-5pm on Saturday). However he never showed up or called to cancel or re-schedule. I find this behavior unprofessional and rude. I had left a family event early to make this appointment with him. Everyone's time is valuable and should be respected.

We are very pleased with the quality of workmanship.
The job was done exactly as described. The workers are very nice, work hard, and clean up at the end of each day.
