"Dr
was referred by my coworker when we were looking for someone new to address some serious struggles our dog was facing. It is so unfortunate" that we found him during our dogs end of life--I wish we had found him sooner-he is a wonderful veterinarian! He was extremely sensitive, patient, knowledgeable and concerned during each visit regarding our dogs struggles. Our dog had been progressing with the inability to use his back legs. To address this, we visited our regular vet and 2 others throughout the progression for 2nd an 3rd opinions. We felt that the vets were not very helpful and none really had much to offer and did not seem very sensitive to the progression. On our own, we purchased a cart to help him walk but he did not take to the cart. He continued to progress and my co-worker suggested Dr
. He was the first vet to suggest an appointment with a Physical Therapist that works exclusively with dogs to see if she could help him transition to the cart. The PT was also wonderful and offered excellent supports; however, at that point, we feel he had progressed beyond the cart---if only one of the other vets had suggested this sooner. Our dog could no longer walk which brought many other associated challenges. Dr
could not have been more knowledgeable and sensitive to the needs of our dog and our concerns--he even called to follow through after each appointment. We had to make a very difficult decision which is still hard to share; however, our best and most loyal friend could not have had a
vet to be with during his last moments. I would highly recommend Dr
. We do not plan to get another animal because it is so hard at the end but if we did, we would most definitely use Dr
. He is an A+.

"My dog was bitten in the eye by another dog and had eyelid repair surgery done at an animal hospital an hour away. I wanted a quick check on the wound to make sure" it wasn't infected and
fit me in right away. They were careful, thorough, and so very compassionate with her and me. I have been bringing my dog there since we got her 4 years ago because I was unhappy with the other two animal clinics I've used near my home. AAC has been excellent at every visit. There is never a wait, the staff is all very nice, and the vets and technicians knowledgeable and very empathetic. I think the highest praise is that my dog gets so excited to go to the vet, as if she's going off for a day at the spa!

How do I choose the right veterinarian for my pet?

One highly rated provider shares insight and questions to ask yourself when going through the process of choosing a veterinarian for your family pet.

Many vets suggest trying to train cats to claw only designated scratching posts before choosing to declaw.

When cases of skin and ear problems become severe or chronic in your pet, it is suggested that you seek the care of a veterinary dermatologist for treatment.

Angie's Answers

?

Hi

The first answer is pretty thorough but I would like to add a few points.

First.. the type of food you are feeding your dog may be the key.  If you are using a food that is grain, rice or corn based in the first three ingredients, please change to a food that is meat or chicken based.  Many dogs are allergic to grain, rice, wheat and corn and these things are used as primary ingredients in many well known, name brand dog foods.  Secondly, all treats that have these ingredients should be cut out.  It takes weeks to months before a food change can show results so you must be patient.  Jumping from one food to another will be counter-productive.

Some dogs are so allergic to flea or other insect bites that one or two bites can cause a severe reaction.  Once the itching/scratching cycle begins, it is hard to stop it.  Benadryl is good but I suggest liquid form.  You can get it inexpensively at one of the dollar stores.  The pills take time to break down in the digestive system so you get better and faster results with the liquid. One tsp= 5cc and most dogs of average size can tolerate that much and more if the dog is a larger breed.

Allergy testing is very expensive and most dogs will test positive to some things.  That does not mean that the itching is coming from those things as many things in the environment can trigger positive test results.  Breaking the cycle of itching is primary and that can be done with prednisone ( short term and last resort after benadryl and bathing), allergy shots( same deal, last resort after easier methods).   This spring and summer have been particularly hard, weather-wise.

Good luck!

After you search for the company, you should get the "no results" page. Scroll down just a little bit, and you'll see a button and a link that say "Add this provider." Click on that to add them to the List! Thanks for the great question.
?
I'm really sorry! It looks like we made some site changes I hadn't noticed before and it made things just a little more confusing (for me, too!). We'll have to look into this to make it easier.
In the meantime, here's what you do:
1) Look for the Submit a Report button. It's yellow and on the right-hand side of the page.
2) Search for the animal cancer care clinic you're looking for. The search box should be inside a yellow bar.
3) You should see a list of potential matches, but on top of those, there should be "add a provider to the List" text in blue, which is where you'll click to get to the add page.

Let me know if you have any trouble. Sorry, again, for this being so confusing.

It was an awful experience, and I would never go back to them. The veterinarian told me that my dog was going to die and that there was nothing that could be done to save it. Thus, I went to a dog hospital that did save my dog's life.

They almost killed my dog. They prescribed two medications, that apparently you aren't to mix. He almost died. I took him to the emergency animal hospital and that's when they told me that we cannot use those two medications together. When I called them and told them what the emergency vet said, they said that they didn't know that and that should inform the vet of this. I have not been back since and wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

The staff was wonderful - this is my first dog, so I needed a lot of information. They were great about answering all my questions, and processing the tags I needed. My dog loved every single person there, and the doctor is fantastic. Their prices were more than reasonable, and I would highly recommend them to anyone!

I was referred to
Charleston Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
by my trusted vet of now 14 yrs. He referred us for bilateral total hip replacements and there because he was under the impression that because she was a small breed and only 9 months old that they would have the implants custom made. Our Pom has multiple birth defects and AVN of femoral heads was one of them with severe luxation of both patellas. Now first, I do want to say that the vet they assigned us to for consult was great. I really liked her. I was a trauma surgical nurse for 35 years and I am super picky about my families medical care and my pet's medical care. I did my research on her after our consult, she was kind, empathetic, and I discover that she is highly trained in ortho surgery so I was comfortable with her. Ok so I think it's important to address the positive especially if you are addressing negative aspects. I hated how it was so impersonal in terms of the remaining process. I was completely un-accustomed to having our pet family member taken away out of my site. For 30 years of being a pet care giver, I have always been in the room with the vet and actively involved in the process. This is not the case here. So our calm,
Charleston Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
, well adjusted puppy was affected by this and whatever happened out of my site, she was without the support of her "family". Each encounter there, being taken away has resulted in her having residual separation issues and even flips going to the groomers who is a lovely gentle kind older lady. Ok, moving on, I feel the doctor was well trained, and again, I LIKED her, but the procedure charge was $1800 higher than what my vet would have done, speaking of which, if you recall I mentioned that we were going n the premise of bilateral total hip replacements. She wound up having the femoral head removed and the
Charleston Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
fixated on the worse side. She was required to stay overnight in ICU, I assume because of the extent of the surgery and her age. You can't leave her site since that and she flips out. Again, I liked the doctor that was assigned to us, she specialized in Poms and has had Poms herself so besides her training she was personally vested I think. She was really great about emailing me back when I had "nervous grammy" questions. Otherwise I was not happy or comfortable with the experience, excluding the surgeon. I agree with so many of the other reviewers that there is inflated charges and a real assembly line feel and a real disconnect in terms the lack of emotional component to pet care especially for the caregivers. If you are looking for your regular hometown vet vibe....it's NOT there. The surgeon we had I don't think added unnecessary services to pad the bill, however I did hear people in the waiting room rumbling about that sort of thing and were there because of follow up after emergency care. They appear to have a very comprehensive list of specialty services that one would not have access to in their hometown. I think that vets can develop an arrogance with specialties because they feel they are elevated because of their training and expertise. I worked with doctors and surgeons for 35 years with the same mentality. Ignore it. If you have to be involved with a specialist and you don't feel right in their hands, insist on another consult, take control of that. The way they run the hospital generally and their care model is either something you can accept or not. I choose not. Even though I really liked the doctor, I cannot get past how they do things there, so I choose to have my vet, who I really trust, who is a really great old fashioned vet to provide care, perform surgery at an affordable price, but most importantly who demonstrated the care model that I am comfortable with.

Our cat was having bloody loose stools. We took him to another cat hospital, but were not happy with the care they provided. Dr.
Charleston Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
explained to us what might cause this condition. She examined our cat, took a stool sample, and took care of his anal glands (no idea what she did there). Then she gave us a medication - an antibiotic. Overall, our experience was very positive.

About two weeks ago my little Pug/mix (6.5yoa) was demonstrating an issue of frequent urination. It started with squatting too many times to urinate. I took her to my vet, that I have dealt with for several years and they said she had an infection and gave me some meds. Several days passed with no improvement and now more squatting attempts to urinate. I then checked some of her squat spots and they were dry. I took her back to the vet and stated she was still attempting to urinate continuously and appeared to me, to be having trouble. They said she had a urinary track infection, gave me an antibiotic and out we went. A couple of days passed and still no improvement and she was now attempting to urinate in the house. She is 100% potty trained. Buy attempting to urinate in the house, I could see there was no urine being expelled. On a Sunday 8/23/2015, I went back to vet, but they were closed. Sunday afternoon came and went and she was still struggling to urinate. Sunday evening came, no visible urine and I was beginning to panic. At 2am Monday morning it dawned on me to see if I could find an emergency vet. I found
Charleston Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
Veterinarian Hospital was open 24/7. I called, they answered, I grabbed the little dog
Charleston Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
and rushed to the hospital. She was surely in great distress. Never having been there, I had to do some paper work, and it did seem to take (for me) a little too long to get the doctor. Yes, I was in a panic. But... The doctor appeared. She took
Charleston Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
into the examining room, asked me a few questions, went right out with
Charleston Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
and took x-rays and was back in a few minutes. She showed me the x-rays and
Charleston Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
had a bladder full of stones and one or some were blocking her urethra and her bladder was full. She told me
Charleston Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
would need surgery. I agreed. She gave me a price. I agreed. She told me, go home and she would call me once she was able to release her bladder of the blockage, and the surgery was set to do first thing in the morning. It was around 4am now. I went home and waited for the call. She called me about 90 minutes later saying that she was able to unblock the bladder and release the urine. She said that the operating doctor would call me after the surgery. Around four hours later I got the call and the surgery was a success and everything looked fine, and we could visit
Charleston Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
in the evening of Monday. We visited Monday and
Charleston Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
looked good considering all that she had been through the past two weeks and the surgery. I took her home Tuesday afternoon and she was still a little groggy but settled in, probably glad to be home. She ate a little food and had a bit to drink, did her business (a couple of times) and settled in for some needed rest. At discharge they explained thoroughly about the medications she had to take, her activity level, and keeping an eye on the sutures for infection and her licking them. All looks very good.
Charleston Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
even rolls over to
Charleston Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
her belly. She is resting comfortably as I write this review. Though I don't include a great deal of detail on what was done, well, I wasn't there. But, the admitting doctor showed sincere concern for
Charleston Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
's condition. As I stated, once in the examining room, it was all business. The results speak for themselves.
Charleston Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
is well and much better in only two days. I can only be so glad and grateful that they were there for her care. I was explained everything and I was treated well also. Many things could have gone wrong but they didn't and that also speaks of the doctor(s)' efforts. I am sorry that I didn't think of a 24/7 emergency veterinarian, but it ended well. The doctors and staff at the
Charleston Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
Veterinarian Hospital did great work. I am more than satisfied, but again, more grateful they were there!!!! Thanks so much.
Charleston Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
said to thank you all also.

They're the best in the country. They're very knowledgeable. I've always had dog with special problems and they've been good at diagnosing them and taking care of them. They kept my dogs that were really sick alive a long time. They had a good quality of life. I don't think other vets could have done that.
