"
and his team were superb! From the start, you could tell this company is serious about their job. Very professional at all times, felt very" comfortable having the workers in our home even when
had to leave for a few hours. Everyone was respectful, friendly, and on their game. When they say dustless, they mean it--super clean at all times. They put down dropcloths to keep the floors leading into the bedrooms spotless and scratch-free, cleaned up after themselves as if they were never here (except for the gorgeous new floors, of course). Answered our many questions with patience and thoughtful, honest answers. Wood floors are definitely an investment, and it's worth hiring Dr. Dustless for the job. Looking forward to hiring them again as we refurb more rooms in the future.

"
provided a thorough walk through and explanation of the work we expected. He made helpful suggestions about things that we hadn't considered." The wood was delivered approximately two weeks before installation was scheduled. Because of other jobs, the start date was a day or two later than expected. Installation went well other than they were short about 50 SF of material. That caused a a delay of about four to five days. A different crew sanded, sealed, and finished the floors. The crew wasn't used to working with walnut (a soft wood). As a result, there were sanding swirls. Additionally, one of the crew members worked alone on a holiday and didn't allow proper drying time for oil-based polyurethane. As a result, the finished puckered in some spots.
was extremely responsive and quickly said that this level of work wasn't indicative of his crews' usual performance. He immediately scheduled another crew to sand the floors back to bare wood and start over. The second crew lead by

has many years of experience and talked us through the entire process. He made great suggestions and his work was pretty much flawless as was that of his partner,
. We are very pleased with the end result. We have a great deal of respect for the way
handled a bad situation and turned it into a good one. He stood by his original bid and made sure that the floors were perfect. We recommend
as long as you use a water-based finish. If you want an oil-based finish or want to use a soft wood, be sure that the crew has the experience required to successfully complete the work.

Hardwood Flooring

Few home improvement choices add as much character and warmth — not to mention resale value — as hardwood flooring. But before hiring a flooring contractor to install or repair hardwood flooring, it’s important to know both its advantages and disadvantages.

From the wall street journal online:

"Etiquette and tipping experts agree that tipping a contractor and his employees isn't expected because contractors offer to do a job for you at a specific price. Any extra money they would want would be built into their bid. Also, it's a business relationship rather than one where they are performing a personal service for you like a waiter or a maid. But if the employees do extra jobs around the house, then experts say it is appropriate to tip a cash amount equivalent to the task; "tip gifts" such as cookies and drinks can count. "The key to tipping is whether or not it was outside the scope of what was normally expected," says Mark Brenner, author of "Tipping for Success!"

My opinion is that a little bit of courtesy (snacks, drinks, expression of appreciation etc.) goes a long way and upon completion of their work you feel compelled by a job well done to offer a little extra in the form of a tip - go for it, but do not feel obligated.

I agree with your choice - this is about the only product that can realistically, for a large room, be taken out and cleaned up after a flood and reused, thouhg carpet can be if you strip it into smaller pieces to carry wet, AND you have somewhere to wash and dry it - that is usually the problem. However, bear in mind it still has to be done within about 2 days or mildew/mold will grow on it, and may or may not be totally removeable. My personal preferences - mostly because their products are consistent, the joints stay snapped together, and they are not overly soft (a problem with cheap vinyls) are Pergo, Tarkett, Armstrong. Whatever you buy, be sure it can come back apart - some plank products are not made with a self-adhering contact glue in the joints that prevent you from taking it apart again, and some brands their snap design, while maybe better at preventing joint separation, cannot feasibly be unsnapped without tearing or breaking it off. Also, be sure whatever brandname and product line you choose it 100% vinyl (other than the urethane surface protective layer) - many vinyl floor products have paper or fiber cores or other water-absorbing components. Remember that, on concrete, since it wicks soil moisture through it, you till need a 6 mil vapor barrier under the flooring and positively sealed all around the edges to avoid the risk of mold growing on the underside of the vinyl.

Agreed.  If you have existing cracking in porcelain you need to know the cause first.  I don't know of any reputable contractor that would dare install tile over existing tile.  Also, any manufacturer warranties for defects would be null due to improper installation.  Did the contractor offer this solution or did you ask for it?  The mear fact that he is agreeing to or offering it tells me you need to leave this guy for someone who knows what they are talking about before he does only half the job which will have to be redone in the near future, costing you more in the long run.

I get so many calls from customers that were talked into a "cheaper" way to do something only to find the work very sub-par.  The sad part is they are out the money they spent in the first place along with the additional amount I have to charge just to undo what the first contractor did before I can do it right.  This floor could end up costing you double what it should if it's not done right.

Everything went very well. We brought in a few different providers but this group was by far the best. Quality service at a reasonable price.

was very prompt in coming out and laid out a number of different options. He was knowledgeable about what type of product to use on a concrete slab (we went with engineered hardwood). Delivery of the materials was prompt and his team finished the entire job in 2 days. It was about 500 sqft. They were punctual, professional and tidy. I was very impressed and would certainly use them in the future.

I have not used another vendor for hardwood installation, so I have nothing to compare it to from an overall quality perspective. Overall we are happy with the job and the ultimate outcome - but there were some bumps in the road.
Kudos to

installed our new treads on our stairs and his woodworking skills were top notch.

and his partner saved us from what could have been a horrible stain matching experience as well as going above and beyond to repair some of the mistakes made by previous crews with the pre-finished installation. I would give them "A" ratings on all accounts, but since I have to rate everyone on an average scale, I gave the entire project a B rating.
Outside of these star performers, I do feel that this company could have done a better job from a services perspective. They provide very little communication regarding their process. My job took a full week but not once did anyone make a pro-active call to inform me when workers would arrive, what would be happening that day (outside of a punch list sheet I received at contract signing) or to confirm I was satisfied with the quality of the work. On a daily basis I had to email or call their offices with my questions and concerns. Some days crews would come early, then later in the day, etc..... I was home waiting and had no idea when to expect people. The other issue is that they sent different people almost every day.
I'm happy that at least all of the issues we reported were promptly addressed without conflict. If I could offer one suggestion to this company is that they should have a single job leader that sticks with the project from start to finish, reviews the work of others and communicates daily with the homeowner regarding what is happening and what to expect. If they would add this small change to their structure, I think they would have a lot more success with less customer issue.
Another reviewer noted their extremely wordy protection waiver that you must sign. I too agree this is also off-putting as a customer. It almost gives the crew free reign to damage whatever they want and know they won't be responsible. While we knew that
Bluffton Hardwood Floor Companies Provider Name Locked
did not do the painting work for the risers and shoe molding - we didn't realize how much painting we'd have to do after they left because of all the knicks and scratches done to our walls during the installation process. We also found stains on our stair rails (which are not being replaced) where they dripped the stair tread stain which was a different color. Again, some employees were more careful then others about cleaning up after themselves and not dripping stain, etc... while others seemed to not be as careful. There were times when tape or a drop cloth should have been used and they were not.
Overall the job came out well and all issues found along the way were fixed, the price was higher than we would have liked, but we did appreciate the quality work done by some of their crew members to ensure we ultimately were happy with the final result.

I previously hired
Bluffton Hardwood Floor Companies Provider Name Locked
and his staff to install new carpet in my bedrooms. I was very pleased with their service that I hired them again to remove the old 20 year old carpet and install wood laminate throughout in our living area, hallway and closets this time around. His staff was very responsive and courteous, very easy to communicate with and met all of our expectations. I had to purchase a little < 20ft of baseboard material for some new drywall I had put up and he was kind enough to put that in for me during install at no extra charge. There were no
