3 tips to select the best water treatment

Don't overpay for the wrong water treatment system. One highly rated provider offers some tips to help you choose the right system for your home.

Water softeners

Even if your tap water comes from a reservoir, chances are it previously passed through underground caverns where it absorbed mineral deposits. Water with a high concentration of minerals is referred to as "hard" water. It's safe to drink but can harm your plumbing and appliances.

You just bought a home that came with an unused water softener. How do you turn it on? One highly rated provider breaks down the process in five easy steps.

I actually just replaced my Pelican Natursoft "water softener" with an more-traditional ion exchange model.  I used the natursoft for a little over 4 years, and I can say it worked as advertised.  When remodeling a while back we decided to get a tankless water heater.  All the documentation indicated that hard water with the tankless heater is a no go.  We had to do somehting, but since I'm lazy (didn't want to deal with the salt or plumbing in a drain) and my wife didn't like soft water, the salt-free model looked attractive.  I too was somewhat skeptical, but the reviews I found looked good, and I know enough about the science of nucleation (I was a material science major in college) to know that what they said made sense, so I bought one.

One thing needs to be made clear - the natursoft system is NOT a water softener!  It contains a media which nucleates some disolved metalic salts out of solution.  These crystals, once formed, remain in the water, and still react with oils, detergents, etc. in the same manner as the disolved salts.  They also continue to form scale wherever water is allowed to evaporate, such as faucet nozels and shower heads. In fact, it's possible that evaporative scaling was even worse than before we installed the system.

Importantly, however, once in crystaline form, these salts do not stick to pipes, or in my case, heat-exchangers.  My tankless heater has a sensor to indicate when it needs to be descaled, and the manual indicates that for my water hardness and hot water use I should have had to descale approximately every 6 months.  In four years with the natursoft the descaleing indicator has never gone off.  For further evidence, when I installed my new softener a few weeks ago, I had to cut sections from the copper pipe on both the inlet and outlet side of the natursoft.  Both sections of pipe were installed at the same time as the natursoft, but while the pipe on the inlet side was green and rough on the inside, the outlet pipe looked and felt like new.

As such, if you want or need a salt-free system for some reason (low-sodium diet for blood pressure, don't like the feel of soft water, can't easily plumb a drain into the softener location, or can't carry heavy bags of salt to the softener), then I can unequivocably recommend the natursoft.  If, like my wife and I today, you want soft water, that feels soft on your skin, creates less soap scum, rinses cleaner in the dishwasher, etc., then the natursoft probably isn't for you.

I had an existing water softener that I purchased from another company 11 years ago which began to have significant issues over the last few months.
Aiken Water Softener Companies Provider Name Locked
that I did not purchase the right product the first time I was dedicated to spend as much time as possible researching my replacement options and available technologies. The first part of my research was to contact local vendors and get information on available products and arrange to have them come out to my house to explain to me in basic terms how their systems would improve on my previous unit. This was very interesting because there was no middle ground among all the companies. Each gave me a different explanation of what I would need and how much it would cost. I did find the time invested in this was well worth my time as I moved to the next step in my research.
The second part of my research was to dig in to the internet and read as much as I could about different products and technologies. Once again this was somewhat of a confusing endeavor because each locality is different and the vendors often cater to that local demographic. One of the items that was struggling with was determining the value of a water softener - carbon combination unit. In East
Aiken Water Softener Companies Provider Name Locked
, CA the water is horrible and was determined to be 44 hardness and contained chlorine. At that time my old water softener wasn't working at all so I really got to experience how bad the water was affecting my family and my appliances. The Chlorine Combination softener became something that appeared to have real world value in my situation.
With a bit of knowledge under my belt and repetitive calls to the local vendors I went outside of my local area and found

. In total I probably spoke with them 5-6 times before I made my purchase and each time I was greeted with sincere efforts to solve my problems. I would say the sales pitch was fine and there was no real pressure to buy the units. In fact they were honest in saying their products are neither the cheapest or the most expensive but they come from a local company that is committed to the trade and its customers. In each of the conversations they always referred to Angie's List and was very proud of their reviews. I had already read these reviews and agreed they appeared to stand out from the competitors in consistent good reviews. They also mentioned the free

You could probably tell by the first few paragraphs that I was going to make my purchase with
Aiken Water Softener Companies Provider Name Locked
. When I finally made my decision I explained I was without soft water for the past few weeks. The team at
Aiken Water Softener Companies Provider Name Locked
reported they needed a day to put together the unit and could install it the following day. I purchased the Water Softener-Carbon Combination system for just under 4k. This was a fair price after comparing products and prices from multiple vendors. The free

system added to the value of the purchase. The installers arrived and installed both the Water Softener -Carbon Combination and the

. I made note that they were far more professional and skilled than the two previous installers of the older systems. They worked efficiently and paid attention to detail leaving a clean and great looking end product. As a courtesy they assessed my water pressure which revealed my pressure regulator was not functioning and my house was receiving dangerously high water pressure. Rather than trying to sell me on replacing the unit they explained that it would actually be very easy to replace and should be a top priority. I thanked them for the information and decided to call a plumber to confirm the issue and make the replacement. The plumber confirmed the issue was valid and agreed that

probably saved me a number of headaches down the road.
I am know two weeks in to having the units in service. The free

system was probably the biggest hit as my kids will now drink the

water rather than going to the bottles of water. I am very happy with the water softness and I am confident that my appliances are also very appreciative. This was a somewhat of a drawn out process and review but I hope it conveys that the review is sincere and the product is worth the investment.

I spoke to several water softener suppliers and selected Clear Water Solutions based on price and softening system. We have had a water softener system installed in our two previous homes
They were able to install everything quickly and professionally. They have since replenished the salt for us as we are unable to do so because of age and health.

The technician arrived at the scheduled time and listen to my questions and not only provided answers but he also checked the operation of the system and demonstrated how the system functions and showed me the results by retesting the water.
