Hershon was very thorough and professional. He explained the various systems in the house, pointed out what was done right and what was unusual, and provided recommendations on home maintenence in the future. As first-time homebuyers, this was fantastic. He arrived early and was able to start inspecting the outside of the house before we got there. A separate inspector from

Oil came to inspect the oil tank and burner. The inspection report was provided within a few days. Scheduling the inspection was easy, and the customer service provided was great.

He was punctual and we ended up having to wait for the Realtors. The owners were home, which I didn't really like, though it gave me my first

to talk to them. Well, I followed him around taking note of little things he noticed and suggestions for upkeep, which was helpful. We checked the crawlspace for termites, and some issues were discussed. PROBLEMS WITH THE PLUMBING THERE WAS NOT MENTIONED. He detected a leak in the gas to the heating unit which was immediately addressed by the owners. Since the heating unit was in the attic, issues with the roof should have been noticed then, but wasn't until I noticed it after the sale. As mentioned, he inspected the roof and assured me that it was in good condition, except for some moss and lichen. After the sale I went up and looked at the roof up close and was horrified. It was very bad and needed to be cleaned off pronto. Some of the stuff was already getting underneath the shingles and could cause problems very shortly. I will probably have to replace the roof in short order. Besides that a close inspection from the inside shows old split wood and replaced woodwork from the last time it was shingled. Very bad! A leak was noticed in the crawlspace and I called a plumber who got a big kick out of the 3 stooges plumbing down there, he even took pictures to show others! He and 2 other plumbers told me this DEFINITELY should have been noticed by the inspector! Drainage and piping were not up to code and done amateurishly. It cost me $900 to fix that alone. The problem in RI is there is no standards for Home Inspectors, no licensing or the like or an agency that keeps track. The other issue is that inspectors work for the Realtors even though your paying for it! They want the Realtors to recommend them for future jobs, so they will not jeopardize a sale by being too much on the side of the buyer!

was recommended to my by my realtor. Ed was fantastic - as a
former contractor, his trained eye spotted nearly all possible issues
with the house. He took his time, spending the better part of a full
day with us at the house, which was a foreclosure that had been vacant
over a year. In addition to going over the house in great detail, he
was also able to bring a roofer to the house to confirm his suspicions
that we needed a new roof. Ed and the roofer came back to the house
second time to look at the roof and confirm Ed's initial assessment -
this second visit was at no charge to us from either company. We
greatly appreciated Ed's attention to detail, responsiveness to our
questions during the inspection, as well as before and after inspection
day. Additionally, Ed maintains his contractor's license, which was
extremely helpful when we required a statement for our mortgage company
that had to come from a licensed contractor. Since Ed had already
thoroughly examined the property, and was fully licensed, he was able to
fulfill our request and saved us the trouble and time (we were under a
tight deadline) of organizing our agent, seller's agent, and another
contractor to visit the house to review the issue. Ed is honest and does an excellent job!Ed

I actually used Home Pro Inspections twice within a few months while I was house hunting this summer.

did a very thorough job going through the house with me and my fiancee. He was very informative and consistent. The book you get at the end of the inspection is great for future reference on things that need to be updated/fixed. He also sends out an email newsletter with tips and a list of recalled items.
Overall, I wouldn't hesitate using Home Pro Inspections of RI again and would recommend them for any home inspection needs.
