"There was almost no chlorine (.83), the alkalinity was low (75) and the ph was low (6.5). But what was upsetting was that the cyanuric acid was at 187. The people" who came out said I needed to drain water. I had the water checked at a pool store and they said draining water is the only way to lower the cyanuric acid. At the very least this should never have happened. He was relying on poorly educated techs, who could not tell that an intermatic timer wasn't running and who used stabilizer tablets past a reasonable level, causing the cyanuric acid problem. He has agreed to pay for water if I decide to replace the water. But he denies that he took the wrong pump and uses the fact that he billed me and I paid the bill as his proof he did nothing wrong.

"I was reluctant to write this, but I did want to share my experience with
. We contracted with Caribbean to remove the old concrete that" surrounded our pool, pour new concrete and install a new liner. The price quoted was $10,000. They started the work a couple weeks late, due to other commitments. They installed a new skimmer for us for an extra $400; we weren't notified prior to the installation, they just did it, and then we were informed we had to pay for the skimmer. Next came the liner: they had installed it in the shallow end, but told us that the bottom was too rough in the deep end and we had a choice: $3,000 to cover the bottom with concrete or $1,000 to put sand on the bottom of the deep end. Since the cover was already half on, we chose the sand. We were so not happy with all of these extra charges, but felt we really didn't have a choice. I think $1,000 for sand is exorbitant (we later had other pool people tell us they were shocked at the $1,000 they charged us for the sand). They finally finished up and the pool started leaking immediately. To Caribbean’s credit, they hired a diver to find the leak. He determined that the new skimmer (the one they had just installed!) needed tightening; it was tightened, but the pool still leaked. Diver comes back, and says the same thing. We had another pool guy come out and he finds a large crack in the second skimmer (they told us they checked the second skimmer when they replaced the first skimmer and there was nothing wrong with the second one). He thinks that when Caribbean poured the concrete, the weight of the concrete cracked the second skimmer. We covered the skimmer up and asked them to replace the skimmer and they said sure, for $2,500. We also felt sharp rocks coming thru the liner in the deep end; the $1,000 of sand apparently didn't contain only sand! Once again to their credit, they had a guy come out and with a rubber
, hammer in the sharp rocks, to this day there are still a lot of sharp rocks protruding through the liner. When we opened the pool for this summer, we noticed numerous cracks in the concrete, a couple of them major ones. I once again called to complain and was told that it wasn't covered under warranty and I would have to pay for the repairs. Their concrete guy called and I told him that we were looking into having the skimmer fixed before repairing the concrete and we are currently only using one skimmer. In conclusion, we felt ripped off regarding the sand; and the pool STILL isn’t fixed. Really, really disappointing.

My order of preference - first choice a jacuzzi/hot tub repairman (from a jacuzzi/hot tub/sauna distributor), second choice a plumber (many do not work on hot tubs, jacuzzi's and sauna because they cnanot afford to stock parts). An electrician might be able to fix it if it is a connection problem, but such motors are seldom repaired if the problem is internal, just replaced - which would be a jacuzzi repairman/plumber type job.

You will have to find out what your model costs new - looks like they run from about $400 to 1700 depending on size. IF yours is at the lower end, might be just as cheap to replace it, with parts and labor. If not low end, then repair probably works. Typical pricing of components that might have gone out - switch $80, timer/control unit $130, heating element $100 (probably most likely to have failed) - so if only one of these went out, figuring $100-200 labor, probably cheaper to fix it. I would contact your dealer for a better idea.

BTW - here is a Saunatec instruction on maintenance on the heating element and rocks, failure to follow can shorten heating element life, if that is what went out (and probably the simplest to replace) -

I'm sorry to say there aren't many of us on here with adequate experience working on pools, myself included.  My suggestion would be to contact a few local companies specializing in pool renovation and have them give their recommendations and bids for the work, breaking down order of operations so you know what to expect at which stages.  Check Angie's List for referrals in your area and cross check those with the BBB for any unresolved complaints.

The service had been great and I had just referred my parents to this company until the first week in June 2015. I personally told the pool maintence rep in person that I did not want pool service for the 2nd week in June and the 4the week in June. I went on to tell him why. The 2nd week I was having construction in the back yard. The 4th week I had a pet sitter coming and did not want them to have to remember to close the doggy door. He suggested I call the office so I will not be charged for these services for these 2 weeks. I chose not to call the office, since being charged for 2 weeks was not important to me. I did not get service the 3rd week, but forgot to call to see why. I went out of town, and when I got back the following week, the pool was not serviced. I called the company who told me the pool service was on hold. I told them I did not request the hold. Apparently the pool rep put the service on hold, even though I chose not to do this. The next week the pool service was supposed to start back up. But the service did not start back because the pool rep was out on medical leave. So someone else was taking his place and was not on the same time schedule. So this week, the service rep returned to work and when he arrived he let me know he needed to talk to me. I met him in the front yard where he told me he could not service my pool with the pool cover on. The pool cover has been on the entire time and in 6 weeks, if the pool cover was off, I would be putting it back on due to have so many trees in my backyard. I told him I was not taking the pool cover off. I told him I would have to find another alternative for pool chemicals. He brought up the service being on hold. I reminded him that in the beggining of June I told him I did not want service for the 2nd & 4th week only. He first denied being at my house at the first of June. He then confirmed that is what he provided his company. I told him, his company told me, he put the service on hold, which I did not want. He then started to get upset and he then told me I told him I was renovating my pool. I told him I never told him that. Then he tells me I told him my pool pump was broke. Again I told him I never told him this either, because never are true. At this point he got very aggitated and started yelling stating he is not lying. I told him I did not think he was lying, he is just confused. All the while I never once raised my voice. I tried to calm him down by telling him I was not mad, I am just trying to understand how simply requesting only 2 weeks of no pool service could go so wrong. He turned around walked into my backyard collected his equipement and left. I called the company and left a message for the manager to call me. When the manager called me, he did not give me a change to tell him I was not using his serviced anymore and only wanted to give him informaiton I would exect a manager would want to know about how his employee behaved. The manager did not want to hear anything having to due with my experience with his employee. The manager said he was no longer going to provide service to me because the rep can't always make it to my house between 6-7 am, which has never been a problem, the other reason he gave was my dogs. There is only 2 times my dogs were in the yard during 6-7 am, the first being the very first time the service started and I had simply forgotten about service starting and the other time, I was sick and forgot to close the dog door. It is disappointing a company has such good pool service but terrible customer service and no dispute resoluction skills. I will never suggest this company to anyone ever again.

Since I prefer electronic communication, I contacted them directly through email and received an appt date. They were a no-show at the scheduled date and time so I emailed and learned that the technician was working on a longer than expected repair. I don't think this company did anything wrong but with just a few questions prior to dispatching, the experience could have been excellent. Nevertheless, they really seemed to value customer satisfaction (both the technician and the owner) and I would use them again, I would just make sure to let them know any issues prior to disassembly even for something that seemed routine.
