I am close to retirement (my wife will retire in 3 years), and we wanted to find an investment advisor that would get to know us personally and work our whole financial plan, not just offer stocks and bonds advice. We had our

is the solution for us. They are a small company that provides personal service. They are all CPA's in addition to being financial planners, which made us more confident. Pat
has been in the financial management business for 25+ years, and has a mission to provide holistic financial planning tailored to an individual's needs, not just stock picking advice. They have helped us understand approaches and strategies for life insurance, social security, retirement cash flow, 401(k)'s,
's and regular investments. They created a comprehensive financial plan for us, explained it in great detail, outlined the risks, and showed us what our financial future would look like. We are so happy that we found an advisory firm that really cares about us and takes the time and interest to get to know us, our risk tolerance, and our needs. I would not hesitate to refer any of my family or friends to

"In our first meeting with
, he described the process and the expected outcome and we left with a list of information we needed to bring to the next meeting." We thought we brought all the requested info to the next meeting but as
systematically walked through our assets, workplace benefits, and liabilities, we discovered a few things we had forgotten we had. Those forgotten assets more than covered the cost of the service! Also, as
reviewed our documents, he gave us a better idea of exactly what we had and how the benefits worked while giving us advice along the way of how to maximize those benefits. After all the information was collected,
built a plan based on our answers to questions about our goals and risk tolerance.
walked through a great tool where you can change assumptions and see your expected outcome and probability of success. We even had access to that tool after our meetings with
were finished which we found really helpful. At the last meeting,
summarized what we had discussed in the previous meetings and repeated the advice he shared along the way. He then walked us through various investments and insurance products and explained the pros and cons of each. We were very pleased with our interactions with
. He was personable and knowledgeable. We never felt rushed and
patiently answered all our questions even though we had paid a flat fee so he should have wanted to cut our meetings short! We feel like we learned a lot and were glad we spent the time and money. We would enthusiastically recommend

"A few years ago, we were probably a financial adviser's worst nightmare. We could only answer about half of
's questions as far as where all our money" was (many items had been moved, plus we had just physically moved houses and misplaced many documents in the process).
patiently walked us through establishing a baseline for what a healthy financial plan looks like today, and what we needed to to to prepare for our future. Within a few weeks, we went from only knowing where about 75% of our money was and should be, to knowing where every penny was and watched our portfolio grow. He's very versed in the myriad of options available, and was able to provide
advice for not only managing our own finances, but how to do that in the context of owning our own small business. He is always professional, unbiased, and responsive to inquiries.

In early November 2013 I began looking into a Cash Balance plan to enhance my office’s profit sharing and 401k plans. I was using the Third Party Administrator (TPA) Great Lakes Pension for my 401k and I looked at two other companies The Benefit Advantage (TBA) and The Retirement Advantage (TRA). Each of the three companies gave proposals for costs associated with setting up the Cash Balance plans (CBO) and ongoing annual costs associated with running the plans. Upon receiving the quotes, it appeared that TRA was the lowest. We had numerous email correspondences about the process and on November 13th I signed a contract to proceed to set up the plans using TRA. The front page of the contract showed that I would us be executing this agreement with TRA, through their agent
Scranton Financial Planners Provider Name Locked
,
Scranton Financial Planners Provider Name Locked
the financial advisor and Great West, the fund management company.
However, on November 18 (15 days after I signed the contract),
Scranton Financial Planners Provider Name Locked
wrote that he was unable to get back with me sooner because he was traveling, but he needed to inform me that the fee structure that was quoted would be different than what was presented. My apologies for the lack of immediate feedback. I’m traveling this week in the UP. I understand the concern with the difference in cost between the standard and custom design. I did not present the custom pricing based on the conversations surrounding the $100k contribution goal Dr.
Scranton Financial Planners Provider Name Locked
expressed. I do not want anyone to think that I purposely did not disclose the fees associated with the custom plan design. With that said, I have reached out to actuarial partner,
Scranton Financial Planners Provider Name Locked
, Inc. to discuss the reasons surrounding fees and if there is anything we can do to accommodate Dr.
Scranton Financial Planners Provider Name Locked
. Please see his email below and the attached marketing piece that discusses Standard v. Custom designs. I will follow up with a revised proposal that illustrates the $3000 set up and annuals of $4200. I hope the decision is to continue to partner with The Retirement Advantage and Great West. If I can be of further assistance or additional information is required, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

He attempted to explain that their actuarial partner,
Scranton Financial Planners Provider Name Locked
set their fees differently for different types of plans. I had my office manager tell
Scranton Financial Planners Provider Name Locked
to hold off on processing our plans through TRA until we had more clarity about what appeared to be a Bait and Switch. Then, in early December
Scranton Financial Planners Provider Name Locked
notified me that since
Scranton Financial Planners Provider Name Locked
would be calculating the actuary tables, they would also have to manage the funds within their own proprietary funds. That is, we would not be able to use Great West. Understand that the fees associated with
Scranton Financial Planners Provider Name Locked
funds are exorbitant and the company is poorly rated. So, we would have to pay more to have the plan managed as well as pay more for each fund within the plan and endure much higher risks.

I would think that since the original contract is signed between a specific set of parties, and that one of those parties, namely Great West was disqualified by TRA, the original contract, dated November 3rd would be
Scranton Financial Planners Provider Name Locked
and void.
Regardless, TRA sent me to collections to obtain $3,500 for their services even though they will not be handing any of my moneys.

My husband was arrested for having drugs in the car with him. He was arrested and taken to the Van Nuys City Jail in the Valley. I called the Jail to find out what it took to get him out of jail before he had to go to work in the morning. When the jail employee told me the bail bond was $20,000 I almost cried. Then I did some research and called
Scranton Financial Planners Provider Name Locked
across the street from the Van Nuys city jail. And a very kind bail agent was able to calm me down and walk me through the entire bail bonds process. She was patient and very understanding. She was able to inform me that just because the bail bonds is set at $20,000 does not mean that is my only option. The bondsmen told me that they would be able to get him out of jail within 4 hours, and he would make it to work. But in order to do that I would need to pay the bail bonds company 10% of the set bail. In my case the 10% fee was $2,000. I agreed to go ahead and start the application and get my husband out of this nasty jail house thanks to

agents.

It went well. He put me in a couple of different reputable financial products. I invested some with an annuity for long term goals and in a gas/oil product for my short term goals. I'm very pleased with his knowledge and ability to call back.

T.J. showed up on time in the morning, which is important to us. I would like to also point out, more specifically, he came TO US! We loved that personal touch and going out of his way to service his clients. Everyone else we have worked with in the past has made us come into their office. Insurance and retirement is not a terribly fun thing to discuss so we loved the fact that we get to be in the comfort of our home, T.J. comes in and caters to us and our needs, and we can be more efficient with OUR time and done quicker. We loved it. Service like when doctors used to make house calls. This is not done enough nowadays.
He was very knowledgeable about his business and our needs, clear, concise, and explained every thing in a language we could understand. We were shown multiple companies so we didn't feel like we were guided down a path that wasn't best for us.
They even helped us with retirement strategies and optimizing our retirement nest egg to better suit our needs!
Scranton Financial Planners Provider Name Locked
was a joy to work with and for any and all retirement/Life insurance/LongTermCare insurance needs I would highly recommend.
