"* Gave conflicting information on how to pay premiums * Web site does not work, so I cannot log in to see my account * Hold times are outrageous * After multiple" phone calls, problem was not resolved *I visited their office in person and was assured they knew what the glitch was and would fix it and call me back the next day *After the office visit I was able to log in to my account once, and it showed no payments. I can no longer log in to my account. *No one ever called me back, after nearly 2 weeks. I left additional messages during this time and complained on Facebook, where I was assured I would get a call back that same day. *In March, a healthcare provider called to verify my policy and was told it had been canceled Feb. 1 (this is how I found out). *When I called OHC after that to see what was going on, they told me I was "ineligible" - though earlier that day they had accepted credit card payment for another month. *In early March, one of my healthcare providers said she had sent in an application to accept OHC weeks ago and had not heard back. Since I checked to make sure my providers would be accepted by this policy before I chose it, this makes me think their provider list is more wishful thinking than truth. Dealing with them has been an absolute nightmare. Though I have paid 2 months of premiums I have no health insurance to my knowledge and even visiting the office in person did not get results. I was pretty excited about getting health insurance from a nonprofit, but I think if people weren't locked in for a year with them, they would have already gone under. The incompetence is staggering.


"I was silly enough to do all the cleaning, painting, etc., without even considering if insurance might cover at least some of it! "My bad." But, within" a month, when I recovered from the emotional trauma (it was a friend of mine's kid and his girlfriend in their mid-twenties who had rented, and then "trashed" the condo), I went "wait a minute".... I have insurance on the place?"! So about two months after the damage occurred, I went to my insurance agent's office---only a mile from my home. He was not there as was per usual. HIs assistant was, as was per usual. I forget her name. But she had been strange in the past...One time, when I'd asked to have a copy of all my policies and their prices--- so that I could review what I was paying yearly-- she was all but hostile. She asked me "why" I "wanted" it. I said, I was just doing my own bookwork. She had a sour look on her face as she just turned to her computer and started typing. She did not speak a word to me during rest of that visit--- (could it be she thought I was scouting around for other competitive insurance prices...?). She printed the papers out-- gathered them tersely from the printer (again without looking at or speaking to me). When she handed the print-outs to me in a
, I had to ask her if I could borrow her stapler. (!) She stapled them and dropped them in front of me. I then thanked her and went into the "lobby" where I stood quickly glancing through them. She came immediately to the threshold of her office looking into the lobby (door open) and said with barely
hostility: "Is there something else I can do for you?" I left promptly. So when I dropped in last summer to check on my coverage regarding the "trashed" condo and saw right away that she was the only one in the office, I thought about turning around and leaving! But, my rational self said: "Wait a minute; this is your insurance company that takes money out of your account to the tune of thousands a year...has taken thousands out of your pocket for twenty-some years...and you've never had a claim. They have never paid a dime in all those years for any claims whatsoever. Here I was about to duck away because the assistant---not the broker himself but some woman he pays salary or by the hour...has been intimidating to me? Uh uh, I decide. I go in. I sit down. She's not friendly as usual. She's facing her computer as I explain the condo situation to her. This is what she says (I kid you not) after I've finished describing the problem to her. "Do you think you need a lawyer?" To me, this is like the dentist you've been paying monthly for years suggesting you might want to call an acupuncturist when you mention tooth pain. So, on to
: I caught up with him eventually in his office to tell him how disappointed I was in his assistant, State Farm...and him! He said something to the effect of 'sometimes personalities clash.' Whoa. So her personality and mine were at odds? I have no idea what he might have been thinking... I was the customer who paid the money. He was the "Agent." His assistant was not helpful or nice in the event of my needing to finally maybe use their services as a company. ...... So I tell him I'm forced to... not just wanna sorta maybe... but
.... get another Insurance Agent and company. (I need a root canal from my dentist (?) I don't expect the dentist's assistant to suggest I call a
Shui practicioner)...! He says he's sorry ... wants to retain my business...etc. He agrees to get an investigator out to take pics of the condo. I also have pic's I can send him which he agrees I should send to him. The person who will be taking pics, investigating, will call me asap. Nobody calls in the first week after that. They do not call in the second, and third, and fourth and fifth week... Bad enough. But I cancel the insurance in mid-October. I get bills in November, December and January. I pay my insurance to State Farm to December 2014...just to be safe...even while I'm covered (car, house, property, etc.) by new insurance company since October. When new insurance co. sends statement to State Farm that my insurance kicked in in October, as per my request---to give further and final proof to
that I am owed a refund for the months after October 11th 2014, I get no response.

's office. I don't expect to hear from him --- well--- except maybe if he wants more money from me for nothing!

First, call your insurance company and tell them you do not want any proceeds paid to the contractor under your policy as you are not going with them.  This way they can not collect money on your behalf.  Insurance will typically have you sign a form for release of funds anyway but this is a good extra step to make sure your signature isn't forged.  Second, call the contractor and tell them you will not be needing their services afterall.  Did your husband pay a deposit?  If so it may be non-refundable.  Then follow up with a certified letter. 


An email as well doesn't hurt but some states don't yet recognize email as a form of communication for legally binding documentation.  This may have changed and I'm sure more states do recognize them as I haven't followed that topic elsewhere as much as I used to.  The contractor's office should be local.  A sure fire way to ensure they got the message is to deliver the letter to the office of the contractor and have someone at the office sign a duplicate stating it has been recieved and read.  There's no arguing whether they received it or not by doing that.


Hopefully you've learned your lesson about high pressure sales techniques and storm chasers looking for a quick buck.  Some people find out a much harder way.  While these guys may be legitimate you should always do your homework on a contractor before signing the contract.  Unless you have water running out of the house and the work has to be done on the spot it's not so much of an emergency that it can't wait until the next day.

roadside came to my house to jump start my car when the weather was way below zero. They even brought a new battery in case I needed a new one. They also did a diagnostic test on my battery to see if i needed a new one. I did not need a new battery at this time. When I called for the service I was asked if I was safe. That made me feel very comfortable and safe by asking this question. Later that day I was at a friends home and he got his truck stuck in the ditch off of his driveway. They came out and towed his truck out in a timely manner.
