"We are DYIers and bought an older distressed home to gut and remodel. In the process, we have used several contractors and have done a lot of the work ourselves." This company is one of the best contractors we have used. There was approximately 5,000 sq ft of siding that needed to be replaced. The old wood siding was leaking with dry rot and termites.
, the sales rep, was knowledgeable, attentive, professional, and explained everything thoroughly. He gave us a list of references and homes we could drive by to see examples of jobs they had completed. He and the owner,
, came by to check on our project several times during the installation. The Job foreman was very personable, knowledgeable, and professional as were all the employees. They were meticulous. The installation, seaming, and trim were done perfectly. It took about 4 to 5 weeks to complete.
was the only company we contacted that had their own scaffolding and jump
to do the 41 foot high side of home which sloped down a hill. The other companies we got estimates from did not have their own scaffolding and needed to rent scaffolding which drove up the cost significantly. We enjoyed getting to know all the crew at
and working with them was a pleasure. Thank you to all the wonderful people of
! As an aside, about the time we started on the siding, we were having a great deal of difficulty finding a general contractor to address foundation issues (which required excavation), install beams, framing, windows, and plumbing.
, the owner referred us to the general contractor he personally uses, Soyland Enterprises, and he also did a fanstastic job.

"It starts off to a great start, but over the time, it starts to change fairly and to the end which was very poor. The original contract we agreed was at 93k amounts" then it changes with additional changes contract, then again with third additional change contract which I refused to sign.
clearly stated that it will takes 8 to 10 weeks from beginning to end of the construction, but it took over 5 months and still not finished. Communication was very poor from the owner (
). He hardly come over and inspected the property and see the workmanships that his crew did. I had requested for itemized list as the prices seem to be outrageous over the time of increasing the cost which he never hand in. The final inspector was failed twice to the point where I have determined to terminate them. I did do the correction and the final inspection was passed from my work. It showed that
did not give the best of their quality of services after all. I received a Merchanic's
letter from
who was very angry that I did not pay full as I withhold some money back due to their undone job and quality of workmanships. I was ready to take them to judicial court but instead we were able to negotiated to fair price and continued to fix some that need some attention. They never followed up on it and continued to have very poor communication.
even did not pay contract interpreter and dare to tell her of this problem which should be kept confidential and separate from interpreter issue. Overall,
is not doing their professional business in both which are.... Communication and quality of workmanship.

How much does siding cost to replace?

Siding is critical in protecting your home from weather and structural damage. Understand when you need to replace your siding and how much it costs.

Siding

Unless they are made of brick or stone, most homes are protected by some form of exterior siding. Traditionally made of wood, siding now comes in several materials including aluminum and vinyl. Each has its strengths and weaknesses to consider.

More homeowners are choosing fiber cement over vinyl siding or real wood due to its durability and natural look. Discover other reasons to consider it.

Especially if your home's vinyl siding is in the shade, it will require regular cleanings to prevent mold and mildew from appearing. (Photo by Katelin Kinney)
Siding

Vinyl siding is durable and easily cleaned. It just takes some elbow grease, or a high-powered pressure washer! Either way, read up on how to best clean vinyl.

Call and ask your contractors these questions.  Don't be afraid to ask questions.  It is your money and home.  I would ask for references and take a look at samples of their work (especially the low bidder).  Make sure all are licensed and carry the required insurance.  You don't want to get a bad stucco job, so do your homework first before selecting a contractor; which may not be one of these.  Check with your local building department and local building exchange for more references on these and other contractors.  Good luck.

?

Both choices have plusses and minuses.

I am partial to vinyl siding myself if it is put on by a contractor that pays attention to details in sealing against water intrusion. The better grades of vinyl stand up to the weater very well. The siding on my own home is over 15 years old and shows no signs of fading or any changes due to sun exposure and have had no problems with water entry around windows or doors. It does not dent like the old aluminum siding did or break if hit by a ball or a rock thrown by a lawnmower. As long as you save a few extra panels even if a rock was to be broken by something like a rock it is easier to repair. I will add that the earlier vinyl sidings did tend to fade but I have seen homes I sided after putting additions on that were done 20+ years ago and they look fine. Those closer to the 30 year mark not as good on the fading though. I gennerally never use the cheaper panels though so I can not vouch for them but I think that as long as it is one of the better manufaturers it seems to be just panel thickness. Just a personal opinion but if you are looking for added insulation I would use one of the 4X8 or 2X8 panels rather than the insulated siding. I can not see how insulation on the back of each panel with all the joints can do much more than stiffen the panels and I would think it would hamper the movement of the panels with changes in temperature.

As for Hardi or any of the other fibre cement sidings it is way more costly and relys on caulk or tar paper strips between the panels to seal out water. It is not very forgiving on install mistakes and must be done perfectly to get the full Hardi warranty. I was just involved with a job where the contractor did not put a few pieces of flashing in properly and his guys lapped a corner board incorrectly and the Hardi lifetime warranty was void. Another thing I did not like is that it is put in with a blind nailing method and even though this house was done to specs in this area of the install the bottom of the siding was not tight to the lower courses in many spots. They did install it to the maximum exposure and I believe if they had gone to a larger panel or even lessened the exposure by 1/2" it probably would have been fine. The other thing I saw was the paint seems to be prone to scratching durring install and to me the house looked like it needed a paint job even though siding was new. I do think that if painted after install a paint job would last many years as the product is very stable and does not expand and contract much. The one big plus I see is it tend to HELP in and area prone to fires such as some ares out West.  I put the word help in capitals because it will not fireproof the home but may stop ignition from sparks and moderate heat exposure.

Alside is the far superior siding. Another option with the Alside is the Center Lock panel. It locks in the center of the panel, eliminating wind blow-offs,has a 3/4 inch profile, and carries the same warranty as the Charter Oak

Rating
My D rating for
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his team is midway between an A for the first weeks of the project and an F for the final weeks, a delay that extended the project weeks past the promised completion date. Although the first weeks had some minor hiccups, overall
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his team did a decent job getting most of the project work done. Just before the project was due to be completed, we noticed some quality issues caused by members of
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
’s team, and here the trouble began. These issues, and the untimely and unprofessional way
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his team handled them, completely reversed the positive opinion we initially had. During these weeks, we experienced communication mishaps, clerical mistakes, an angry false accusation, and even downright dishonesty from
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his team. Throughout these final weeks,
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
repeatedly insisted that the project was complete, despite the issues that were still outstanding. And his team’s efforts to get the issues resolved ranged from apathetic to deceptive, as follows: Final touches like caulk and paint touch-ups were ignored/delayed for weeks.
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his team repeatedly miscommunicated with inspectors, each other, and us about the status of the final inspections, resulting in us having to secure these final inspections ourselves.
One of the quality issues we experienced was that
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
’s tile person had laid our tile floor crookedly, and after discussion with
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
we agreed on a monetary credit rather than a repair attempt. But when we tried to work out the details of this credit with
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
, he was argumentative and evasive with us.
When
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
first asked for a final check, despite outstanding issues, he hadn’t even given us a final bill yet. He then gave us a bill that was inaccurate, but that he insisted was correct. Based on the careful records we kept, I knew the bill was not correct, so I investigated the discrepancy. I discovered that
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
was charging us for somebody else’s roof permit and for credit card convenience fees his team had incurred! It was not until I insisted that these extra charges be removed that we received an accurate final bill.
Finally, worst of all…….another quality issue we experienced was that
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
’s team had damaged our brand new vanity top. They brought in a repairman, who tried to repair the top but ultimately deemed it beyond repair.
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
’s foreman then said he’d order a new vanity top. For the next two weeks,
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his team strung us along, promising to order the new vanity top but making excuse after excuse for why they had not yet done so. Then, after this two-week delay,
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
told us his team was going to uninstall the old vanity top and bring it "to Collegeville", which would then result in us getting a new vanity top in place later that week. I was skeptical, so I left
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
voicemail to verify that we were in fact getting a new vanity top and not having a repair attempt made on the old one, since his own repairman had stated that the old one was beyond repair. I reiterated the concern to his foreman, who told me his understanding was that we were getting a new vanity top. I then got a call from
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
telling me that he had brought the old vanity top to a manufacturer who would assess it and either repair or replace it but would give him no other information. Confused at why
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
hadn't simply ordered a new top and at why he hadn't informed us of this change in plans, I ended up interrupting him as he spoke, and
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
lashed out at me. He angrily told me how patient he had been with me and then falsely accused me of threatening to "tape conversations" in my earlier voicemail. I grew upset at this and raised my voice as I expressed my disbelief. He then scolded me, telling me there was no reason for me to raise my voice because he hadn't "accused me of treason". After this phone call, seeing how shaken and upset I was, my husband called
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
and left him a message expressing his extreme frustration.
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
never responded to my husband’s call. The next day, I called the manufacturer and learned the truth…..that
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his foreman had arranged a repair only and that there had been no discussion of replacing the old vanity top with a new one. He also said that he had been communicating the details of the repair process to
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
all along. After this incredibly frustrating revelation, we recognized that our insistence on the new vanity top we paid for would mean having to deal with
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
’s deplorable behavior for several more weeks, when we were already three weeks past our promised completion date. As such, out of desperation to be finally done with
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his team, and for that reason only......we met with the manufacturer, inspected his repair job of the old vanity top, and reluctantly agreed to accept the repaired vanity top. When the old vanity top was subsequently reinstalled, it began to show signs of having been sanded and repolished. But at that point, we could no longer stand to deal with
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his team and their unprofessionalism and dishonesty, and so we chose to live with the old damaged vanity top rather than insist on the brand new vanity top we paid for and deserve.

After the final weeks of the project finally came to an end, despite our extreme dissatisfaction, we still gave
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
the full amount we owed him. However, we also gave him a letter privately expressing our concerns to him and asking for an explanation. But instead of providing any explanation,
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
responded by insisting that he and his team had been timely and professional, blaming delays on his suppliers (who had nothing to do with any of it), and telling me that he had not been dishonest (even though, on the last day of the project,
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
’s own foreman admitted that
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
had lied to me). I sent
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
response refuting his claims and waited for any further response from him, but now a month later I’ve gotten none. And the sad thing is, I’m not even demanding the new vanity top we should have, not looking for any financial compensation for the pain and aggravation we experienced, and asking for no more than an acknowledgment and a sincere apology for what
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his team put us through. Given the egregious actions of
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his team in the project’s final weeks, and given his refusal to acknowledge or sincerely address these actions, I feel that I have no choice but to rate our final experience with him as an F.

We worked with Bill
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
, the owner from the initial bids through project completion. He was upfront with his backlog at the time we signed the contract, and kept us posted when actual installation dates were moved back due to weather, etc. While the overall project duration extended longer than it would have during more inclement weather, Bill exploited every unseasonably warm winter day in late January and early February to complete the project efficiently. The hard working demo and siding install team were headed up by an extremely competent foreman named Rosie. He is quite detail oriented and insured most every detail or question was addressed. Ed, the finish carpenter reconstructed three existing soffit's which had failed, as well as do a great job fitting/installing all of our new doors and building a very nice exit deck from our patio door. The painters that Bill bragged about did not let him down as they did a great job caulking, prepping, and painting the entire exterior of our home. In the end, the project was very successful. We are quite pleased with this first phase of our remodel project and the new look of our home exterior.
A couple of noteworthy items that place Bill's company apart from most others: everyone on the job were his direct employees, and not a penny of payment was expected until the job was completed.

Based on comments on Angie's List, we contacted
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
Siding to discuss the replacement of the vinyl siding on our home (our house and attached three and a half car garage). Ed
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
, President, met with us. He was informative, describing the materials and how they would proceed once work began. He took detailed measurements of our home and we selected the siding and other materials that we were interested in using. He met with us a few days later to discuss the estimated price and the options that were available. In addition, he provided a comprehensive list of recently completed projects, with names and addresses, for us to check out. We were able to reach an agreement on price and time table for the work. There was no high pressure, no phony offers, Ed was truly a pleasure to deal with for this work. The work began in mid-December and continued through most of January. Their two man crew (
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his partner) kept at the project in spite of the weather, which was miserable at times. They were very meticulous, paid attention to details and did a great job. They cleaned up the work area each night and at the completion of the project. The house looks great. We would recommend
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
to others who are considering new siding. Ed kept in touch with us throughout the job and answered any questions that we had about the project.

I called
Orefield Siding Contractors Provider Name Locked
at 8am this morning for water leaking in my living room ceiling. A crew arrived by 10am. The damage was assessed. They advised as to where the water was coming from and how the issue could be resolved. There was a problem with the flashing on my roof surrounding my chimney. The leak was caused by excess snow and ice build up from our recent bad weather. We agreed on the price and they got on the roof, removed the snow and ice from my entire roof and resealed the flashing around the chimney. Told me to call right away with any issues. No more leak. Fast and courteous.

The owner came by to ensure things were going to my satisfaction. After the work was completed, the foreman thanked me for letting them have the job and said to call if I had any questions.
