arrived at the approximate time scheduled, and proceeded to inspect the washer. He said that the machine required a new spin tube and clutch" assembly. He tried to locate one locally, but had to order it; he required a cash deposit, which was unusual, as he'd not asked for that the last time he'd done repairs for us. He came back with the new part two days later, with an assistant, but the two of them could not repair the machine, and loaded it up to take it to his shop.
apparently had trouble there, as he didn't bring the washer back until the 17th, which was five days after the initial service call. He explained that he kept it late Saturday to run it through its cycles to be certain that it was operating properly. After he and his assistant re-installed the washer, they filled it with some water, and it spun all the water out. I assumed that it was repaired; however, within two days it was again not spinning the water out. I called and left
a detailed explanation of the problem, but didn't hear back from him. I called three more times, over the next few days, but never have received another call back. I ultimately decided to purchase a new machine, as this
was fifteen years old, and although our previous
washer and dryer had lasted us over twenty-two years, and this one had been performing fine up until now, I just wasn't willing to waste any more time or money on this one, nor wait any longer for
to get back to me. I realize that there could have been something else that went wrong at the same time as the bad spin tube/clutch assembly, or some other mitigating or unseen problem, but I wasn't happy about being ignored so soon after I'd paid for a repair that didn't produce satisfactory results. I gave
an A for price, as I felt that the cost was quite reasonable; a C for quality, as the repair didn't work; a D for responsiveness, as he still hasn't responded; a B for punctuality, as he arrived on schedule, but returned the machine later than anticipated; and only a C for professionalism, as he was prompt, friendly, worked hard, but the lack of response still doesn't sit well with me. Overall, I rated him a C this time. An unfortunate experience.

If the ducts are venting through a window I'm assuming the duct work is all easily accessible.  Lowe's and Home Depot sell a cleaning kit that uses an electric drill to spin the brush as it goes through the ductwork.  I've found it to work quite well and you can do it yourself.  It may take a few passes the first time to get everything out if it has been a while since it was last cleaned.  Just make sure you get all of the loose lint out after running the brush through from both ends and you're good to go.  Please note that if the line is not hard but rather a flex duct line you can easily puncture a whole in it with this kit and will do better to clean it by hand.

As stated above, it can vary between companies.

Typically just an inspection implies you do not have a contract or agreement that may include discounts or free repairs.

With our company you would get the annual maintenace service that you should do every year, and if repairs are needed, they are extra, but you aviod paying a "service call charge" that would be related to most repairs, because you are paying for the "inspection" and we are already on site.

Inspections are often discounted in the slow seasons, and can usually be found advertised , at reduced prices , on Angie's List.

Since you asked this question over a year ago, I'm pretty sure you've already made your decision but I'd like to offer you some advice.  You mentioned your husband vacuumed the coils and it worked for a couple more weeks.  Chances are the condenser coils were very dirty when he did this.  When refrigerator condenser coils are dirty, the compressor overheats and heat will cause a compressor to fail prematurely.  You should vacuum or blow out your condenser coils regularly.  Today's refrigerator compressors are not made to last like they were in the past.  I remember when it wasn't unusual for a compressor to last 30 years.  You won't see that happen with the way refrigerator compressors are made today.  Regular cleaning of your condenser coils is crucial in preventing premature failure of your compressor.  For more tips, check out my article here on Angie's list titled "How To Avoid Appliance Repairs"

Appliance Repair reviews in Industry

In short, avoid this company! Avoid them at all costs! For a detailed summary of how terrible your experience will probably be, please read on.
This is by far the worst, absolutely the worst company I have ever dealt with. It has been over a month since I first contacted them to fix a
Industry Appliance Repair Services Provider Name Locked
ice maker issue and they have managed to do absolutely nothing, except waste 4 working days over the span of a month.
I first contacted them over a month ago, only because they are the only factory certified repair service for Sub Zero. I explained that my ice maker was not functioning correctly and that I needed a technician to come out at look at it to see what the problem could be. They scheduled a technician to come out a week after I first contacted them. They told me I needed to call them the day of the appointment, to get an approximate time frame of arrival. I went ahead and did that and they gave me a time from of three hours in the afternoon. Later during the given window of time, I received a call stating that the technicians truck "broke down" and that he can't make it out. I was then scheduled for another appointment almost a week later.
The day of the second scheduled appointment, I had to call again in the morning to receive a time frame and was given another three hour window. I was not notified the technician would be late and he arrived an hour after the given time frame. The technician came out, looked at the freezer and ice maker, and stated that the ice maker was in fact broken and a tube was leaking, which was causing the problem. He did not take anything apart, besides moving a couple of drawers out of the way so that he can see the ice maker. (This issue will come up again, and this is why I have mentioned it). He was literally in and out within 10 minutes, after wasting 4 hours of my work day. I was told that the company would contact me the next morning about ordering parts an scheduling a time for the actual repair. I did not get a call for a few days, and when they called they told me the approximate price. It was quite expensive but I really had no choice because when I first called to schedule, I was told that it was a $140 service call charge but if I went ahead and repaired it with them, they would waive that charge. However, when I received the quote, I was charged the full $140 and I had to call and could only get them to cut half off of the service charge, even though I shouldn't have had to pay any of it.
Now to the day of the scheduled repair. It has basically been close to a month from date of contact. I will be honest, I did wait a few days before accepting their quote, so perhaps the time period could have been maybe 3 to 4 days shorter. I was called and told the technician would come out between 2 and 5 but he did not show up until 6. After he showed up (the same technician that diagnosed the problem), he took out the old ice maker and then stated that there is another problem, unrelated to the ice maker which could also be causing issues. He also stated that he could not install the ice maker he brought with him because it has to wrong type of connection and my freezer model has two possible kinds of connections. At this point, I was quite frustrated because the company had again managed to waste my time and the issue was still unresolved.
When I asked why he did not bring the correct part and diagnose the problem correctly the first time, he claimed that I diagnosed it as a ice maker issue. Are you kidding me? Obviously I said the ice maker isn't working, because for all I knew the ice maker wasn't working. How am I supposed to know that there are other parts that aren't working correctly? I'm not the repair company, If I knew how to repair it, why on earth would I have contacted the company! Additionally, he claimed that the second issue literally just happened that same day, like it's some crazy coincidence. The technician knew that there were two possible kinds of connections and he should have taken the ice maker out the first time to see what kind of connection he needed. If he had taken the ice maker out, he would have immediately seen the other problem, which he claimed is unrelated.
I then had to call the company, explain that their technician did not correctly do his job and that he blamed me for incorrectly diagnosing the issue. I was then told that I should give them another

since they are the only factory certified repair service for Sub Zero. I was given a new quote with some labor and parts costs discounted and scheduled for repair service with a senior technician. However, on the day of the repair, the given time frame, of 1 to 4, again passed and only after I called, was I told that the technician is stuck on another job and cannot make it out.

I decided that I no longer want this company to repair my freezer as they continually screw up. I have also expressed my displeasure with Sub Zero and hope that Sub Zero does not allow

accidentally or purposely left the hose clamp off dishwasher hose and every drop from a full cycle flooded our newly finished basement and caused quite a bit of damage. Whirlpool sent another independent service technician to give a second opinion about the lemon of a dishwasher, and the service technician said that the Capital technician (

I called Capital and asked to speak to a manager and was told no one was available, but someone would get back to me. Well, its going on 3 days and no one has ever called me back. They have extremely poor customer service. I would never do business with them again. I would rather buy an entire new appliance before I let any of them step foot into my house again. Let's review:

Arrived within the 4 hour window. I liked that I got a call when he was on his way. He quickly replaced my thermostat. I liked that he had towels to place in my frig and on the floor for his screws and such. He finished quickly and adjusted my cost from the original estimate because it didn't take him as long as the estimate thought it would. Glad they could get the part as my frig is 23 years old and in good condition. Didn't want to buy a new frig since they are so much taller than my frig which fits under my cupboards besides being much more expensive.

They came out the next day and changed the pump. They then discovered that this did not fix the problem, that the machine was not spinning. They told my daughter that they could not fix the problem and that we would be better off buying a new machine ($1100+ to replace a 6 yr. old machine). They then took the pump they had installed off and took it with them, leaving the machine without a pump.
This left us worse off then where we started. We called another repair service today and the first thing they need to do is order a new pump as the machine cannot be run to diagnose anything without a pump.

Art quickly diagnosed the issue on our 2007 Whirlpool Duet washing machine based on my telephone description of the problem. He quoted me a price for the part needed and explained it would need to be ordered. The repair visit was promptly scheduled for the day following arrival of the part. When he arrived, Art explained each step of his repair, showed me the damaged control board and quickly installed the new motor control unit. The washer was back to operating condition within 30 minutes of his arrival. This is the second time we've called Art on a large appliance issue (other item was dryer in 2013). Art is professional and personable. We'll call him whenever we need a future large appliance repair!

diagnosed the problem, which started out as a bit of a mystery. He stayed with it until it was accomplished. He was so professional, and so dedicated to the job. I was so pleased and impressed with his work and work ethic. I will certainly call him if I have any problems in the future.

was right on time and repaired my washing machine in just a few minutes. Then he cleaned out the motor parts and checked everything over to be sure there were no other problems looming.
He was very fair with the charges, and I am recommending him to all my friends.

The first time I called him, he offered advice to encourage me to try to fix it myself, which I thought was very considerate and generous. However, I was unable to fix myself (turned out my particular model of refrigerator was not set up the way he assumed) so I called back and asked him to come out. He came out the next day, diagnosed the problem, and then ordered the part. He could have come back the next business day, but I could not be home for several days after that, and he accommodated my schedule, He misestimated his arrival time on both occasions, but it was not a problem for me (and I told him that) because I had arranged to be home all day both days (I am able to work at home fairly easily). It might be that if timing had been more important for me he would have arrived closer to the estimates, but I made it clear that it didn't matter that much to me.
He was polite, professional, and fixed the problem. He seemed very knowledgable about appliances and I will definitely call him first if I have an issue with another appliance.
