"My experience with
was wonderful. They helped me through the process of using my homeowners insurance to replace my roof. Communication" was awesome. Calls and emails answered within 24 hours. Professional contract with everything spelled out-- attention to details! Knew the code requirements in my area. Offered reasonable upgrades. Also told me some upgrades were not necessary but he would be happy to do them if I insisted. Did not ask for any money up front, only once all work was complete. Whole job took 1 day as promised. Yard was clean after job. Came by the next day to walk the roof and check the quality.. Punctual, professional, quality work, knowledgable. Delivered exactly what he said, nothing more, nothing less. Very happy with my new roof. Would recommend
to anyone needing a roof replaced!

"I called this business because of excellent reviews, for an estimate on repairing/replacing our roof. His office said he was very busy and he couldn't get out" to take a look for nearly a month. I agreed to wait and scheduled the appointment for Sept 3 between 4 and 5 pm. I rushed home that day to ensure I didn't keep him waiting, and found two messages from his office on my machine. The first said they wanted to reschedule to noon to 1 pm. Obviously, I hadn't been here to get that message. The second message was the office again, acknowledging that time was not going to work since they hadn't heard from me, and saying he would go ahead and keep the 4:00 time. Sometime after 4:30 I got a call from the person who was supposed to come, saying he couldn't come because he was on another job. Hello? This appointment had been on the calendar for a MONTH. He said maybe
could come out the morning after next. I was not happy but agreed that morning might work. Then I heard nothing. I called the office the next day to see if he was indeed coming Friday morning. Whoever answered had heard nothing of the missed appointment, handed me off to another person who said
might be able to come, but it would probably be the afternoon, a time I was not available. That's when I gave up. Why would I give a $15,000 job to someone who wasn't interested enough in it to show up for an appointment he'd kept me waiting a month for?

Wow, i aum surprised you didn't get 10 answers already with roofers say X was the best or N was the best or A was the best. In reality you are focusing on the WRONG THING!

5 estimates? Why 5? Why would you do that to yourself? Normally if you are dealing with reputable companies you don't need more than 2 estimates. I advocate to people to always get at least two estimates and if the roofers are saying something very different or if the roofers are way way way off in price, get an equalizer, get a 3rd.  Obviously if you don't trust a roofer disqualify that roofer immediately.  I beliee you have now fallen into "Analysis Paralysis" which is what happens when you have too many opions.

But back to the topic, I said you are focusing on the wrong thing. Why did I say that? Because you can take the best shingle in the world and if installed wrong is compeltely garbage. i can take the worst shingle, known to fail, and if installed properly will last some ammount of time. So you should focus on the roofer, not the product. The roofer is more important and a good quality roofer will only want to install good quality product.

The roof is a system comprised of many components, not just the shingles. You have the water proofing underlayment such as ice shield, the water resistant underlayments such as felt. You have the shingles, the ventilation and the flashing details. All of these things add up to equal one roof. Neglect one and your roof is doomed to fail.

But the roof is more than just product it is detail, know how and heart. Heart? yes heart. It takes the utmost CARING the utmost DESIRE to want to install a good roof. It's hard work and easy to fall into the train of thought as to do what's easier, instead of what's faster.  Faster and easier seldom ever equals better. At the end of the day you ened a roofer that cares about your roof.

So what product is best? That's hard to say. Each manufacturer has multiple plants and it seems each plant puts out varying levels of quality. I will tell you in my area Atlast is known as a cheap commodity shingle. I have Tamko Heritage on my house but I stopped using it because I was having seal failue issues and at the time they offered no contractor certification program, but I hear they started up one. Ownes corning is a decent product backed by a great company. I don't install very many OC's though. I primarily install CertainTeed Landmark shingles and my feeling is that they are the best on the market in my area. I'm sure others will disagree with me.

But don't miss the point, the roofer is more important than the shingle.

I appreciate the fact that with homeowners like you who want to beat the insurance co out of deductibles, so then my rates and every other homeowners rates can also go up just to save you.....Thanks for NOTHING..[8o|]

Any roofer worth using should be able to do the roof with NO MONEY DOWN.

The only scenario I would ask for a deposit is on a crazy odd ball shingle that had to be special ordered.

?
The question was, Can it be done? The answer is yes. The real question is "Should" it be done? The answer is, no, not unless it is an emergency.   But also let's clarify winter, because we are having a pretty mild winter, so there's kinda not a problem this year so far. I'll refrence "below freezing" from this point forward.

As a certified and licensed roofing contractor, my reputation is on the line. I debate this topic quite often with other roofing contractors who seem to care more about profit than a job well done.  Well, I can tell you from past experience having been a professional roofer for 14 years as of the time of this posting, that the chance for failure increases exponentionally when installed below freezing.  It's better just not to risk it.

Personally I will not, unless absolutely necessary and the customer signs a disclaimer of limited liability, install a roof below freezing and really really want to install the roof at 40 or above. The shingles need to seal, and will not seal unless they warm to about 70 degrees F ambient temprature. This does not mean it needs to be 70 outside, because the shingles will warm from the sun.

So what can be done to install the roof below freezing? Well first, the roof should not be gun nailed below freezing. This is because the shingles become brittle and it's easier to "blow through" with your nails. It's also harder to regulate air pressure when it is cold, I speculate because of barometric pressures, but I am just guessing.  Therefore the roof should be hand nailed. This takes more time. Furthermore since the seal strips will not seal, they must be manually sealed with proper compatible adhesives. This will also take more time, and more material. I once spoke with a roofer in Alaska who builds tents around the houses he is working on and covers them with tarps and heats with propane heaters.  Now that takes real time!    The question is, are you prepared to pay for this extra time? Can you wait a few more weeks?

Mason always returns calls/texts, stays in communication both before and during the job (even sending pics of their progress to my cell phone). He shows up when he says he will. He and his crew definitely know what they are doing. We thought this repair would stop the leak in the laundry room, but it didn't.

Unscrupulous sales team, rude, and sexist! One of their sales people solicited my
wife about setting up a meeting with the insurance adjuster to authorize a roof repair.
He told her that we were free to seek other bids and asked her to sign an insurance replacement agreement. In his rush to get a sale, he failed to point out the clauses...More /> on the back of the agreement that are supposed to be initialed.
He also failed to find out who else is authorized to make final decisions on the home. Our home is owned by a trust, so everyone in the trust must be in agreement on final decisions. After meeting with the insurance adjuster, sales person never introduced himself to me. Repairs were approved by the insurance adjuster, and even the adjuster pointed out that we were not obligated to go with

. After the salesperson dragged his feet for ten days, he contacted my wife by phone. She informed him that our home is owned by a trust and that we were looking at other bids.
During this time, no goods or materials were exchanged or dropped off, no final contracts, nothing. When my wife contacted the sales associate that the trust had decided to go with another company, he refused to let her finish any thought, and proceeded to talk over her loudly and threatened her that we owed the company 10% of the total repair. He continues to threaten her by phone and text. When she contacted the company's sales manager about the whole situation, he responded the same way, and said that they had bought us our wind damaged roof, because the insurance adjuster approved it, and that we owe them money! He also accused my wife that we were going to keep the money and not get the roof fixed. When my wife explained to him again that it was the decision of the trust to go with another company, he then accused her of going with a friend on the repair. He then said that his company doesn't do charity cases, and that we needed to pay. Then the salesperson threatened that the company would send a certified letter and put a

Awful people! Why would we trust a company that treats us this way before doing anything than meeting with an insurance adjuster?

and Echelon are THE BEST company I have had the pleasure to deal with. We tried going the insurance coverage route, but no dice. They did a very thorough and honest appraisal of the status of my roof, and it clearly needed replacement (20 years of hard living).
Erie Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
explains everything and is readily available if there are any questions or concerns. He gave us several options in different price ranges. He also has a list of roofs that Echelon has installed to compare different colors/appearances.
Once all of that was decided he went out of his way to solidify the best price on shingles. The work was performed professionally and efficiently. Due to another company's error the estimate on shingles was too low, but Echelon honored their quote to me, which was greatly appreciated. In fact the work crew did more than they were contracted for- again at no additional to me.

* From the day work was scheduled, it took 75 days !!! to complete roof replacement for a
Erie Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
1500 square ft house. * This roofing company was unable (or unwilling) to perform basic roofing repairs (e.g. rebuild wood chimney frame). I had to hire an outside carpenter to get this done. * Consistently, they didn't show up when they said they would, and they didn't return calls.
* No single point of contact. Didn't communicate with me (except to invoice me before work was even completed). People within company didn't seem to communicate with each other (e.g. office sounded surprised when I described my dissatisfaction). * Unfortunately, or fortunately perhaps, I can't comment on quality of the work. So far, at least, the roof isn't leaking. * In fairness, this company has a really good reputation. I can only guess that this wasn't one of their better efforts.
Post script: After 75 days (and job still not 100% finished) I pay bill, and tell them that I would never hire them again. Now suddenly they seem anxious to communicate...
Advice: 1. get start date and stop date in contract, 2. Watch out for
Erie Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
word contract language (i.e. "payment upon substantial completion..."), 3. Anything the salesman says to you that you want done should be detailed in writing.

This project started by meeting with their project supervisor, who was very thorough and professional in explaining the work that would be done. They handled all of the building permits and we were scheduled within three weeks. The crew was amazing. They arrived early and worked until late afternoon; finishing the entire roof in two days. They put down tarps around the entire house to catch the waste materials, and we would never have known they were here - the cleanup was so thorough.
The office staff was very friendly and efficient in handling our contract, material choices, and invoicing.

Got a competitive bid from their estimator. The only weak point was in not keeping me notified of when the work would take place, they picked up a big apartment job and were delayed in getting to my project. Schedule was not an issue for me so I was okay with the delay, but they need to work on just keeping the client informed. Once on the project their field team was excellent and very professional. You could not ask for a harder working crew and they left everything quite clean every night. I would highly recommend them and already have to other friends. Great work at a good price. They did not try and sell me on a more expansive roofing system that I did not need. Quality team all the way around.
