"Metro's estimate for our Master Bath was about $4,000 more than the other two estimates (from Angie's A+ contractors). We chose Metro because they offer full time designers" and because they are experts in Bathrooms. Overall, we are pleased with the final results.
, our sales rep, understood my contemporary style and made appealing product suggestions.
, a designer who coached our designer, helped me understand how my choices would impact the big picture. He explained what light would do to the colors and the energy that product or paint color choices would create. The laborers (
? Oh no, I may have forgotten their names) were exceptionally friendly and professional. Each day, they would tell me when they would return and they left the work space spotless. They took great care and pride in their work. I would love to work with them again! The designer who wrote up our contract (not
) made errors that seem to be a result of inexperience. She thought she understood contemporary design, but did not. When I thought she understood what I was saying, she had a transitional, not contemporary concept in mind and made decisions based on her ideas. For example, after viewing shower tile options, I selected large horizontal white tiles for the hall bath. She wrote the contract for vertical tiles and later explained that the vertical tiles would add interest since the floor tiles are horizontal. I wasn't seeking interest, I was seeking sleek,
contemporary. Metro was responsive and wanted to make me happy. I decided to keep the vertical tiles because I had (inadvertently) signed the contract for vertical and I did not feel write having the workers take down all of their work. The designer told me the tiles do not come from China. The tiles, and most if not all, of the supplies came from China. Suggestion: Review the contract again the next day when refreshed! I signed after two hours of product selection and was too tired to focus. The black granite in our hall bath (color recommended by our designer) became cloudy and spotty right away.
checked it out and cleaned it but nothing changed. The bathroom had not been used when we first noticed this, so its not from usage. There is a milky, cloudy film on it. I checked out black granite in a couple of restaurant restrooms and in a couple of kitchens, where plenty of water is spilled and none have this cloudy appearance.
had the granite manufacturer call in November and I returned his call, leaving a voice mail message with availability in early December. He did not call back so I called again earlier this week and left a couple of more dates. Hopefully, we will get this resolved. I would recommend Metro if interested in traditional design. there is a large selection of preferred tiles that are discounted because they are ordered in bulk. The selection of contemporary tiles is limited and there is no discount because they are not ordered in bulk. The reason I would not choose Metro again is because I would rather choose a more environmentally conscious company, not one that purchases all their items from China.

"I've worked closely with the contractor on behalf of my elderly clients. The contractor has been very patient due to fact of having a supplemental income. I contacted Department" of Human Services on behalf to help with paying on behalf of client. There has been problems that have acquired that has slowed up the process, but the contractor is working with client to overcome the problems. Overall the process is going well.

Angie's Answers

?

This part of Don's answer follows my thoughts exactly:

"You want to deal with a professional person that is selling you a bath that was not working as a cashier a few months ago."

Do you go to the gracery store and ask for someone to cook your steak?  Of course not.  So why would you go to a building supply store and ask for someone to remodel your bathroom?  Rarely will you see a legitimate contractor take jobs from a retailer.  Why?  Because they don't pay much.  Speed is the most important thing to them, along with getting it done cheap so they can maximize profit.  About 10 years ago I worked on a few contracted structures (sheds, garages, etc.) from Home Depot.  They contracted to another company who then contracted people to build them.  At that time they paid a flat $250 for a contractor to pick up the supplies, build the structure on site, paint it, and use their own tools.  By the time the cost of a helper, fuel, tools, etc. was factored in there was nothing left for the contractor.  Anyway, the point I'm making is that the guy who will eventually show up to do the work will be so far down the line that everyone else has already taken the profits (Home Depot, ReBath, possibly someone else, and finally the guy working) that he probably isn't going to care what kind of job he does for you, quality or not.  He likely won't have much experience due to a high turnover rate and any experience he does have will probably be limited to his teachings at that job.  He probably can't answer any building code questions or identify other hazards once things are taken apart and he certainly won't do anything he doesn't have to while it is apart.

Another problem I've heard of repeatedly is that if (when) there is a problem there is always someone else you need to speak to.  You might have to talk to 4 or 5 different people before you can even get to someone that can address the problem.  Now multiply that due to having (at least) two separate companies involoved.  "You need to call ReBath."  "No, you need to call Home Depot."

You hire a general contractor for a reason.  We learn, understand, and keep up on building codes.  We are the one point of contact for all questions and issues on a project.  There is no manager in some other store, state, etc. to call.  You contract a GC and deal directly with that GC, or a site supervisor in some cases.  There isn't a huge chain of command to get through to reach the main decision maker for the business.  In a bathroom remodel you need someone who can do the plumbing, repair and/or move any electrical, install tile/flooring, drywall and paint, trim carpentry, and someone to coordinate all of that.  Sometimes you can find a qualified contractor to do all of those things and sometimes he will sub-contract out certain components (especially due to licensing laws) but you will always have that one definitive person to go to for any questions or issues.  A salesman in a store doesn't visit your home throughout the project to check on the status.  Even if he did, he likely wouldn't now what he is looking at.  The same goes for a retail manager.

Hire someone who specializes in taking care of your home.  Hire based on reputation & knowledge/experience.  You are right that not every customer can be happy so an occassional bad review can be found on just about any business.  Read the reviews, not the grades (they are always biased).  Look to see if the contractor attempted to rectify the problem, not ignore it.  Lastly, unless you want cheap, sloppy work and a whole heap of other troubles, don't hire based on a low price.

?
Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
?
What I always ask my customers regarding this question when remodeling bathrooms is how good they will be about maintaining and cleaning the new bathroom, especially when the old bathroom is obviously neglected.  If you are one of those people who wipes the glass down after a shower and cleans your bathroom every week or two you really don't need to spend the extra money.  If you are at the other end of the spectrum and clean it when it finally bothers you enough it may not be a bad investment.  I've had customer tell me they can tell a difference compared to their old glass without it and others say it made no difference at all.

Your basic rights and protections under law are probably outlined by your state and city's laws. In most states, the easiest way to look up your basic rights and privelges as a consumer would be to visit your state's attorney general website - you can usually find lots of great tips to protect yourself as a consumer there, too. Here's the National Association of Attorneys General's national listing, which includes a link to each state's attorney general website: http://www.naag.org/current-attorneys-general.php

Beyond those basic rights under the law, your expectations of a contractor during, on and after the completion of a job should be explicitly outlined in the estimate and contract. Although it can be a pain in the butt, ALWAYS read the estimate and/or contract before sign it! I cannot stress this enough - frequently the cause of someone's negative experiences with a contractor can be traced back to too few details in the contract.

We've covered contracts, and what you should expect to see in them, here: http://www.angieslist.com/contractor/signing-a-contract.htm

Good luck!

Their work is excellent. They gave us timing and stuck to it. They were on time every time. They provided excellent alternative options for anything that was not possible to complete the way we wanted because of either technical issues or local building codes. They were clear and friendly in their communication methods. All questions and responses were easily understood and easily discussed with them. We couldn't be more pleased with the results and would recommend to others.

My wife and I were looking to replace our tiled shower with an acrylic polymer smooth wall system. After some research, we asked
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
to show us the Cirrus Marble Wall system. The salesperson came at appointed time and had an hour long sales pitch. I tried to bring him to the point several times but to no avail. The whole sales pitch, according to him, was necessary. I was able to ask questions and the salesperson appeared to be very knowledgeable about the product, and the manufacturer had provided many detailed pictures and drawings as to how the system was installed. Two things were of concern, water leakage and smoothness or flatness and rigidity of the walls (think granite verses fiberglass shower walls). This second concern came about when I saw how thin the material was. Because of how the manufacturer said the system was to be installed and their triple walled corners, I was assured that this product would be as good as a rigid wall system. Then came a hard sell, complete with special deals. My wife and I have a 24-hour "wait and see" compact (sometimes shorter than 24 hours but never a buy on the spot), and so he was required to wait. (We had looked at Angies List, gone to a home fair and were almost ready to accept
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
but we like the step "back and look" approach.) The price was higher than we had hoped, but
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
had good ratings and so they were selected. I think it would be better if
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
dropped the hard sell approach. The work supervisor arrived on time to inspect the work to be done and what he stated would be done and what the salesperson said did not agree, nor did this agree with the description given by the manufacturer, but we reached an agreement as to what was to be done. The main disagreement point was over the removal of the tile [to provide the proper surface as described by the manufacturer] and the supervisor agreed to include it in the job. (Again, think granite verses fiberglass shower walls.) The craftsperson arrived one and one half hours late with the excuse that
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was so busy that he couldn’t get to the warehouse and make the scheduled time. (First red flag for me.) He then explained why there was only one person, and not two, sent to do the job. Why this explanation was considered necessary I
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
’t know but it sent another red flag. He then explained that he had an appointment and would need to leave early. I was not in any great hurry and was willing to allow whatever time was necessary and stated that I had no problem with the job taking a second day. I asked several questions about him and his work environment and he freely talked. His statement that he worked flat-rate and liked it because he could make more money that way, was the next red flag. However, as he setup his work, he tuned into a Christian radio station and this gave me some hope that he would do what was right. (As it turned out his Christianity did not include his work ethic or demeanor.) I help him carry his tools upstairs and set out to be friendly, so that I could watch his work. I understand remodeling and wanted to be sure work was done properly. As one might expect the tile removal became a fact of disagreement and in the end I allowed him to leave the tile on the two walls that did not have plumbing. (This was my first mistake, but I was trying to be reasonable.) Next, because he forgot a pipe wrench, he tried to remove the shower head pipe by using the handle of a pair of pliers but broke the pipe off instead. In my opinion an indication that he was going to take shortcuts. There was no evidence of water getting into the framing and so no treatment of the framing. (Note, the salesperson had made a big deal about treatment but I let this go.) Shortly after this, the craftsperson asked me to stop watching as it made him nervous and I agreed to step away while he worked. When he would go out to the van or do other work outside the bathroom, I would go in and inspect. If, I thought something could be improved or something was different from what the salesperson had stated, I would ask a question or make the statement that the salesperson said this or that would be done. It was only a few hours into the job that he just plainly said that he was the expert and that I was in no way to go into the room or look at anything until he was done. I was unwilling to follow his request and so at one point he just turned to me and told me that I was making him late for his next job. If, one understands being paid flat-rate, one will understand that this man had no intention of doing the proper job, but only one he hoped he could get by with. Another example of this person’s improper work ethic involves the special corners for the shower. The salesperson spent five or ten minutes explaining a special corner that this system used and when the kit came there were two angle items that matched this description. I noticed that these items were not being installed and questioned the craftsperson. His statement was that these items were optional and only installed at his discretion. A call to
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
proved this to be wrong and as far as I could tell they were installed but the craftsperson did everything possible to keep me from inspecting (later when the rework was done, this was proved false). There were a number of other items in the kit, but because I could not determine their use they were not installed. The craftsperson said that they were never used and he didn’t know why they were in the kit. (If this person had been instructed on the manufacturer’s procedures, why did he not know their use?) That night the shower dripped all night long and when I call the next day the work supervisor came over and stopped the leak, but the shower handle no longer pointed straight down when off. The following were done in a poor manner: 1) The shower handle did not point straight down when off. 2) The shower cap or top was not aligned with the sides making the area look strange. 3) The shower end walls go a long distance into the bathroom. I believed the reason was that the craftsman did not want to take the time to cut the end and placed them in the shower as they came. (Later this proved not to be the case but I still think these walls looked like poor workmanship.) 4) One of the shower shelves was not level. 5) The wall opposite the shower head, which had tile left from about one foot up, was not even or straight. The bottom was cupped in, not level or straight with, the tile portion. While this was not noticeable just looking at it, the shower door is fastened to this wall and there was a gap at the lower end and is very visible when the door is shut. I wrote most of what one sees above and sent that draft to the work supervisor, asking him if he wanted that rating sent to Angies List? He came over within a couple of days and agreed to replace the two end walls and straighten up the shower handle and shelves. The caveat was that the craftsperson who installed the job would do the rework. If one understands "flat-rate", they will know that the craftsperson has been paid for the job and that this rework will be without pay. However, I was assured that the craftsperson had been talked to and an understand reached. Because I had no real choice, I agreed. After a long waiting period (about one or two weeks longer than the original delivery period), I began calling and asking when the rework would be done, and it was finally scheduled. When the craftsperson arrived, it was obvious he was an unhappy person. I thought his work ethic or demeanor was poor before, but it became obvious that he was going to show me how bad it could be. This man will never be allowed into my home again. One shelf is still not level, and the back wall is not straight where it connects to the shower
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
. It is wavy and it is obvious that this wall is not a thick material that can hold its own shape. Also, he left a mess that I had to clean up. Calls to the work supervisor were not returned at first, and later when my call was returned and he agreed to come by on a certain day, he never showed up nor did he call and explain his absence. The Cirrus Marble Wall system, if installed in the manner suggested by the manufacturer (at least in the manner that the salesperson said the manufacturer suggested), would be a great asset to any home and if anyone likes and wants this system great. We had
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
out to renovate our master bathroom. I removed the existing shower stall, and he rebuilt it and tiled the new shower. He also ensured our plumbing was leak-free and secure. The results are fantastic and we love the new bathroom! A few months later we had a couple issues with the shower, and he came right out and fixed them- no questions asked. He stands by his work, and is an excellent craftsman. I wouldn't hesitate to call him again for any remodeling work!

Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
came out and provided a quote of approximately $3000 to install floor to ceiling tile and a tile floor in my Master Bathroom shower. The quote included a bench, a recessed shelf and tile surround for the adjoining garden tub. It did not include the 3/8 in frameless shower doors which I added through another vendor after
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was completed for $1500.00. In addition, it did not include the tear out of the existing shower which I did myself (this took me about 8-10 hours including clean up). His quote was over $2000 less than the 3 other Angie's list providers that were quoting the job and his timeline was better so I felt like I was taking a
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
of faith in someone that wasn't listed here but it paid off.
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
was very responsive. His customer service skills were among the best I have ever dealt with from a contractor that actually did the work. He quoted me 4 days to do the work and I took those days off to work from home so his timelines matter to me. I threw him a curveball and asked him to install a tile backsplash in my kitchen during the 4 day job (Tues-Fri) which he agreed to do for an additional $300 but it set him back a little on time. In addition, I customized the trim on the tile with some pencil pieces that added time as well. He actually came out on Saturday and worked from 8am to 7pm on Saturday until both jobs were completed. I really felt bad but
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
assured me that he was fine with it and wanted me to be satisfied with the work as that was the most important aspect to him. WOW! If I have any issues, it would be that he didn't include the shower doors and he seemed to like everything I was choosing for tile. I wanted critiques and he was too reassuring. Yeah, he was that good with customer service. I am over the door thing because
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
will tell you that he is a Tile guy and that is what he loves doing. He is great with tile, the final result was amazing and the price couldn't be touched. If you have a tile job of any kind, I highly recommend

An undetected leak in the ceiling of the basement bathroom had disastrous consequences, e.g. partial ceiling collapse, ruined drywall, vanity, and floor, etc. Damage extended to adjacent rooms from water seepage under the walls. The leak was due to faulty pipes, necessitating re-plumbing of the entire house which required opening of ceilings and walls to access pipes for
replacement. Ultimately, I was left with extensive repairs to make, i.e. from the water damage (relatively localized) and from the pipe replacement (generalized--ceilings and walls throughout the house).
The exhaustive process of obtaining estimates eventuated in a “no-brainer” final decision: Prime Construction. Although the various price quotes for the water damage repairs were in the same general range,
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
from Prime provided the most thoughtful and comprehensive estimate; he absolutely set Prime apart from the other companies. Consummately professional in his presentation and manner, he was the most thorough in assessing the scope of the needed repairs. Just for the estimate,
he made two visits-- with one visit even being on a Saturday. He returned yet again to provide and discuss the proposal/ estimate in person. He was the only one to provide the estimate as I had requested, i.e. broken out separately by the bathroom
and water damage repairs vs dry wall repairs from the re-plumbing. Because of the extent of water damage,
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
recommended “gutting” and rebuilding of the bathroom as the best approach. With his patient and careful explanations (including sketches), I was convinced of this plan. There was never any pressure, never a “hard sell.” As the initial face of Prime,
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
inspired total confidence and trust that the work would be done well and to my complete satisfaction.
There is obviously disruption to day-to-day life with such extensive work. However, I was so impressed and appreciative of the care the workers took to minimize the impact of their presence. The guys were so polite, organized, efficient, and hardworking. They thoughtfully worked intensively to first complete the work in the main living areas (e.g. kitchen, home office), to
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
the
time to when they would be working only in the basement, where the bulk of the work was. No matter how many materials (tools, paint, drywall, etc.) they laid out to accomplish the day’s tasks, they thoroughly cleaned up, leaving no items or debris underfoot when they left in the evening. At each day’s end, the living areas (e.g. kitchen) were left completely accessible, unobstructed, and without
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
of the work that had occurred earlier that day. And all trash was hauled away each day. They even ensured that the driveway was clear of any stray debris.
I’m also so very appreciative that Prime sent sufficient manpower to accomplish the work expeditiously. Initially, that meant ~ 6 to 8 (or perhaps more) workers on site and later 2 or 3. Additionally, once the project was started, they worked daily until completion of all of the work. That is, there were no days of inactivity once the project was started. They had crews for painting, drywall repair, tiling, etc., and the guys were meticulous: The drywall repairs and painting in a closet and the laundry room (work needed because of the re-plumbing) were given the same level of careful aesthetic attention as the work in the entryway, powder room, kitchen, etc. The crews were simply awesome.
The basement has been transformed, with the new bathroom as star. I set out simply to have the water damage addressed; Prime certainly accomplished that, but so much more –designing and creating a completely new and unrecognizable space. The previously strictly utilitarian and totally bland basement bathroom is now the best bathroom in the house. It’s just exquisite,
with artful arrangement of tiles of different sizes and tones. They built shelves and a cabinet, and installed recessed lights. They somehow (“magically”) dispensed with an eyesore, ceiling-to-floor pole that stood in the middle of the bathroom. A friend’s awed assessment of the new bathroom: “It looks like a spa,” and I completely agree. The room is now both functional and beautiful! Additionally, the “old” bathroom included a utility sink, but rather than mar the new room with such, Prime built a utility closet into which they installed a utility sink. Just incredible!
Beyond the repair work, the guys took the extraordinary extra steps of organizing the basement. They transformed what was essentially a chaotic, cavernous storage space into organized, usable living space--even arranging some miscellaneous, forgotten artwork- -phenomenal!
On completion of the work,
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
and
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
(who did the final inspection of all of the work with
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
) did the “walk through” to ensure that I was completely satisfied with the end results and to address any questions/issues.
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
weeks later made a follow-up call to check that I remained satisfied with the work.
Some praise has gone unsaid here because at some point one has to close the review. And I’ll close with this: If there’s such a thing as an ideal experience with a contractor, then I believe I had one with Prime. They were outstanding.

The project began in May with demolition of the Master Bathroom lasting about five days. The crew did take care to clean-up after each day’s work so that the rest of the household was not affected. Construction came in spurts with a one man
operation each time and it required contacting

and/or

Examples:
- Installation of the medicine cabinets had to be realigned twice because the placement of the vent pipes was not accurately measured,
- Installation of a new toilet and sink in the small bathroom had to be redone because no one measured the location to see if the
two items would fit in the space,
- One
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
of the shower wall had to be modified after construction because the design did not accommodate the glass door that was specified in the contract.
As a result of these problems of poor planning and management of resources, the project was not completed
until the end of November (six months !). The initial completion time was estimated to take 3 months.
The final cost of the project did not change as a result of these delays. But
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
did try to renegotiate contract in order to receive an additional payment prior to the completion of the work. We did not agree and held them to the contract
of final payment at completion of the work.
As to the workmanship of the project, the craftsmanship of the cabinetry was excellent as well as the work of the subcontractors for
electrical and plumbing. Over all comments about the project are similar to those of another customer’s review, “this is an
outfit you have to watch. (They are) very difficult to reach.” So our recommendation about
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked

Builders to other customers who are considering a total remodeling of a bathroom would be to have:
- A project completion date specified in the contract with penalties for missing time points
- A drawn blueprint or design plan with measurements of what the final project will look like.

Rating
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
in Clearwater now & H.I.S. Construction are the biggest jokes in the bay area. I believe H.I.S. was run out of town but
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
is still around. Word is he has taken off with client money repeatedly. It took him a full year to complete ½ the task in our kitchen. I was going through breast cancer so it turned out to be the most stressful period of my life dealing with idiots and chemo all at the same time.
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
, of now
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
, now in Clearwater, not Brooksville, ( http://averyhomeremodeling.com/about-
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
) at 855-447-9675 for the moment misrepresented himself as a licensed general contractor for Ed at H. I. S. Construction Design & Engineering. However, I later found out he was unlicensed at the time. He has to run after every incomplete job so who knows how long his newly named company will be around. It will be called something else a year from now. BE CAREFUL. Nobody returns calls and the work is so shoddy it wouldn’t fly in a low income apartment much less a $50,000 kitchen. A few of the workers showed up drunk repeatedly. We had to pay $770.00 just a month ago to complete work to have the electrical permit closed out from that portion of the incomplete job of a year ago.
I have hundreds of pictures that would literally blow you away. Our cabinets from
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
@ Gulfbreeze Woodworks, now in Brooksville, were worse than what I could have cut. They came complete with his childrens’ drawings on the shelves. The paint came off within a week, nothing fits. They are horrible.
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
even admitted that but did nothing about it. They came out once and patched paint on. Now, it’s like an eggshell finish. You can see every blotch of patch. Nobody stood behind their work and we are stuck with a $50,000 HELOC and a crappy kitchen. I hope I sell my house at night. You don't want to let misfits like this crew get away with murder on every job they do so please don't hire them if you care about your house.
Ephrata Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
is trouble. He used to be an insurance agent not that long ago.
