COMPLAINT: Mary McCloskey, Pittsburgh
"Matthew McNash did some handyman work for me. He came on time, was clean and responsive, and worked diligently. He gave me a card that said he was a cabinet maker and carpenter. I asked him if he could fix my floors, and he agreed.

He reamed out the wood and began installing the new oak strips. He also applied a stain with little regard to where he had laid the new floors and where they met my original floors.

Some of the stain got on the original floors. Now they're darker, and the floors don't match. He then put sealer down over the poor staining, despite my direct insistence that he fix the floors first.

He told me this was a bad floor. After telling him I was unsatisfied, he simply said I was hard to work with. This is original woodwork, and it's now ruined."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want a $720 refund."

"I'm sorry Mary was dissatisfied with her floor repair work. We discussed how her floor was badly warped, causing large holes and gaps.

It was more than 50 years old, and I told her she probably should put down new flooring. She also told me no one else would fix her warped floor.

As an apprenticed journeyman cabinetmaker with nearly 30 years of fine woodwork, I told her I would try since I had done so many other jobs for her. I fixed her floor and feel it turned out very well."
