Business Description: Downingtown Engineering Consultants (DEC) is a small structural engineering consulting firm with a lot of experience. We have the flexibility to think outside the box and the knowledge of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood framing to develop cost effective structural systems that maximize installed value. The best solutions are forged from multiple options and close collaboration with our clients. After a career of 28 years working for several large AE&C firms and corporations, David A. Weightman, P.E. founded Downingtown Engineering Consultants, Inc. as a Pennsylvania corporation in 2002. Our office is located at 315 East Lancaster Avenue, Suite A in Downingtown, PA in the middle of scenic Chester County. | Our Strengths | Our experience, size, and location are the three main reasons our clients continue to call DEC. • Experience: From complex projects such as new multi-level precast parking decks on mini-piles to simple foundations for local high school scoreboards; from designing repairs to existing steel mills to designing strut grids for new hospital equipment and everything in between – DEC has the experience, knowledge, and insight to tackle any problem – large or small, old or new. • Size: As a small company, DEC minimizes the expenses of overhead and project management and focuses on what every professional engineer loves to do: engineering. Each engineer actively participates in and bears a large responsibility for their projects and their clients' satisfaction. As such, the focus from project start to finish is solely on the client. • Location: DEC located in Chester County provides a great location for easy access to many project types. We’re a short drive to the high-rises in Philadelphia to the East, the rural buildings in Lancaster to the West, and to the cities of New York, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. | DEC Engineers Wear Many Hats | We visit clients, prepare cost estimates and engineering schedules, take field measurements, create office calculations and specifications, create CAD drawings, collaborate with other consultants on the project, visit job sites to ensure drawing compliance, and resolve unforeseen site problems. In short, DEC engineers are totally involved from a project's beginning to its end. | We Practice the Golden Rule | Every client is treated with respect, dignity, and courtesy. We are good stewards of the responsibilities entrusted to us by our clients. Two-way communication is vital for a successful project. As a result, most of our work is repeat business from our existing clients. | Professional Development | DEC engineers believe in the positive impact of continued education and attend professional development training classes each year. Our computers and software are state of the art. Our professional affiliations include ACI – American Concrete Institute, AISC – American Institute of Steel Construction, AIST – Association for Iron and Steel Technology and ASCE – American Society of Civil Engineers.
