"After a particularly frightening episode, Dr. Chiapella performed a detailed sonogram, which showed severe inflammation throughout the digestive system, also affecting" the kidney, pancreas, spleen, and lymph nodes. Initial diagnosis was food allergy. We placed the dog on a bland diet of foods she had never before eaten, along with healing medications. The bleeding episodes continued, so Dr. Chiapella performed upper and lower endoscopies, including biopsies, another sonogram because the swelling was so great that some areas could not be seen during the endoscopies, and lab work. Results showed allergy-type cells, but because the areas of inflammation differed from first sonogram to the second one, there was indication that the dog's condition was autoimmune related. Dexamethasone injection was necessary to stop the bleeding, and several days later another dexamethasone injection. Dr. Chiapella and her staff were very detailed in explaining and showing me all there was to know about my dog's condition. Dr. Chiapella presented treatment options and expected results without pressuring me. She and her staff have always been candid and compassionate in their speaking with me and in their treatment of my precious little companion. The dog has been doing very well on a treatment of prednisone and other medications., with an occasional minor setback. We hope that as she is weaned off the prednisone, her immune system will successfully reset itself to normalcy; however, there is also the possibility that she will require low-
prednisone for life. This office and clinic is staffed with knowledgeable, professional, and compassionate people. They are very responsive to your needs. They all seem to like their jobs and their love for their patients is quite visible. The place is clean, attractive, and inviting. Dr. Chiapella is very passionate about her work and goes to great lengths to do her utmost to bring her patients to a place of health. She has a wealth of knowledge, and is very open to alternative healing methods, and Dr
, who practices Chinese Medicine and acupuncture also works at the clinic. She has also been instrumental in my dog's healing and in my education! After every visit to the clinic, either Dr. Chiapella or a member of her staff follows up with a phone call or two. After each visit, I have a letter sent by email reiterating the reason for my visit, the findings, and the instructions to be followed. Prior to any testing, lab work, or treatment, I am shown a document explaining what the doctor may do for my pet, and the cost of each procedure. Never have I been left to guess what the final cost of a visit would be, and never have I left there without a full understanding of the status of my dog's health. I appreciate that the doctors and staff work hard, and are very efficient, down to the last detail. One thing I so appreciate is that, whenever a pet is hospitalized, you can go visit them at certain times. Usually evening is best. I take my girl for a walk outside and play with her a bit before she settles in for sleeping. At midnight, the clinic evening staff go home, but the patients are transferred to the emergency clinic next door. This gives 24/hour supervision to the patients who are hospitalized, which makes me feel safe, and my girl loves the extra socializing and attention. (I love all those people too; they saved my dog's life a few times, and dearly love animals. They're also very happy people.) As far as cost, I will not say the medical care is inexpensive. But Dr. Chiapella and staff are very straightforward regarding the possible costs prior to any treatment or procedure. They also do everything possible to save me money, and the costs are reasonable and fair for the work that is done. When you have the best doctors, you just don't resent having to pay the bill. I have had pets for over forty years, and these veterinarians (and Dr.
, who is at the emergency clinic next door, which is associated with VIMP) are the only people I've ever felt good about allowing to treat my pet. They are so loving and honest, it is easy for me to trust them. Never have I felt so safe in placing a beloved pet in someone else's hands. And even with all that my pup has been through there, she's always happy to see them!! No matter what happens, I will know that they did everything humanly possible to bring my dog to health. I owe them all a debt of gratitude, and have met quite a few of their patient families who feel the same way. I'm so thankful they're here in Manassas. My words are inadequate in telling how wonderful they are, and I highly, highly recommend Dr. Chiapella, Dr.
, Dr
, and all their staff. Your pet -- and your heart -- will be in the best possible hands when you entrust these people with your pet's life.

Angie's Answers

?

Hi

The first answer is pretty thorough but I would like to add a few points.

First.. the type of food you are feeding your dog may be the key.  If you are using a food that is grain, rice or corn based in the first three ingredients, please change to a food that is meat or chicken based.  Many dogs are allergic to grain, rice, wheat and corn and these things are used as primary ingredients in many well known, name brand dog foods.  Secondly, all treats that have these ingredients should be cut out.  It takes weeks to months before a food change can show results so you must be patient.  Jumping from one food to another will be counter-productive.

Some dogs are so allergic to flea or other insect bites that one or two bites can cause a severe reaction.  Once the itching/scratching cycle begins, it is hard to stop it.  Benadryl is good but I suggest liquid form.  You can get it inexpensively at one of the dollar stores.  The pills take time to break down in the digestive system so you get better and faster results with the liquid. One tsp= 5cc and most dogs of average size can tolerate that much and more if the dog is a larger breed.

Allergy testing is very expensive and most dogs will test positive to some things.  That does not mean that the itching is coming from those things as many things in the environment can trigger positive test results.  Breaking the cycle of itching is primary and that can be done with prednisone ( short term and last resort after benadryl and bathing), allergy shots( same deal, last resort after easier methods).   This spring and summer have been particularly hard, weather-wise.

Good luck!

After you search for the company, you should get the "no results" page. Scroll down just a little bit, and you'll see a button and a link that say "Add this provider." Click on that to add them to the List! Thanks for the great question.
?
I'm really sorry! It looks like we made some site changes I hadn't noticed before and it made things just a little more confusing (for me, too!). We'll have to look into this to make it easier.
In the meantime, here's what you do:
1) Look for the Submit a Report button. It's yellow and on the right-hand side of the page.
2) Search for the animal cancer care clinic you're looking for. The search box should be inside a yellow bar.
3) You should see a list of potential matches, but on top of those, there should be "add a provider to the List" text in blue, which is where you'll click to get to the add page.

Let me know if you have any trouble. Sorry, again, for this being so confusing.

When I phoned the gentlemen that answered asked what I was needing done and fit us in at the end of the day. When my son and I arrived with the puppy, the gentlemen at the front desk was friendly and courteous. Dr
Clifton Heights Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
also was very friendly and courteous. He made the puppy and my son and I all comfortable. I have used Dr
Clifton Heights Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
in the past to put down my 19 year old cat who was slowing dying. He was very understanding and compassionate in regards to what was going on and throughout the whole procedure. He made my precious kitty very comfortable and at ease and she felt no pain at all. He also kept me talking which was amazing because it kept me from completely falling apart.

In general
Clifton Heights Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
is a top notch facility. Some of the things I love are that you are never charged more after the fact. I have been to other offices that "audit" your charges and bill you more later for items that were initially "left off" of the bill. Costs are consistent and reasonable. Her staff is extremely responsive and helpful and they appear to work like a well-oiled machine. The office is very technologically forward thinking.
Over the years, Dr.
Clifton Heights Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
has been gracious enough to come to my home when we had to say goodbye to one of our dogs due to an illness that was terminal and causing suffering. She never charges extra for this and it enormously helps the process remain peaceful and as stress free as is possible under the circumstances.
When people ask me what vet we use, I am always very proud to say all of our dogs always go to

I went there after two incidents with my dogs that I thought were emergencies. One of them got into the dog food and decided to finish off the bag and the other I thought pulled a muscle while trying to jump onto the couch. Well to my surprise, I was just being overprotective - and they were both fine - what I liked about this place was that no one made me feel like an idiot for rushing my pets to the emergency room when they didn't need to go - haha. They provided prompt service - and gave me kudos for bringing them in to make sure they were ok.

it went terrible. I can never use any of the Banfields ever again. I used to move around quite a bit so I used
Clifton Heights Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
to ensure that my dogs records would be transferred each time I moved and they needed to see a vet. First of all, ALL of the
Clifton Heights Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
's I have used in the United States have never been terrific. But because my dogs haven't had major issues I continued to see them. Well, a few major ones. Like the time my 12 year old mutt had been poisoned by chicken treats from China and her kidney's started to shut down. The vet in PA never found an issue. But a few days later (after having moved to TN) and a different
Clifton Heights Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
vet, the issue was discovered (by me) and after giving her a drip for a day and no more of the treats, she recovered quickly. However, after reviewing the blood tests and urine tests from the PA office, it was discovered that the vet had MISSED all the signals of kidney failure. The vet here on Congress was rude, impatient, and seemed bored to have to talk to 'another dogs' owner." Not to mention that my mutt was once again found to have something wrong with her that this vet missed also. My other dog has a leg issue that this vet told me to ignore. Then 2 OTHER vets told me it was a problem and needed immediate attention. Overall, all the
Clifton Heights Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
's I've been to are staffed with fairly new vets and most have very little interest in getting to know you or your pet. I'd advise not going to this particular location as it is one of the worst
Clifton Heights Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
's in the country.

Excellent. From the time we walked in the door, everyone was very kind, helpful, and professional. I took our newly adopted dog to the vet for the first time, and she was very hyper/anxious. They were very patient and provided a pheromone bandana to help calm her. The vet was super friendly, knowledgable, and took the time to answer all of my questions. Everything was carefully explained, and I felt that we were in good hands. Nothing was pushed upon us. We will definitely continue our dog's care with

Dr.
Clifton Heights Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
is the most kind and caring veterinarian we have ever worked with! We have a female shar-
Clifton Heights Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
who has been treated so poorly by other vets in the past (muzzling her on first visits because "they know the breed") that she's become very aggressive towards them. However, the very first time she met Dr.
Clifton Heights Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
, her tail (and bottom) was wagging. He got down on the floor with her and she couldn't stop kissing him. Very unusual for a shar-
Clifton Heights Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
!
He has performed several surgeries on our shar-
Clifton Heights Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
for deep tears due to her skin being so thin. And, he repaired a less then impressive neutering on our wheaten that was performed by a vet in a neighboring town. Our poor boy was so stressed by the opaque collar he was given by the other vet that he tore it off then tore the stitches. The other vet thought is was funny! Dr.
Clifton Heights Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
repaired the wound and gave us a clear collar which was perfect because the dog could see! Common sense, right?
The office isn't fancy and it's not fur free. If that's what you're looking for then you may be disappointed. However, if you want a kind, compassionate veterinarian who cares more about the animals then the money, then Dr.
Clifton Heights Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
is the perfect choice!!!
