"We had taken quotes from 8 different companies. We were looking for more than just a fair price, we wanted someone we felt we could trust, personable plus a fair" price. We felt we received all of these through Elegant Homes. Our roof needed a couple boards replaced and the roof put on. While deciding on colors we asked for suggestions and we can't be more pleased. We also had a couple strips of siding that needed to be replaced and that was matched up, no problem at all. We are all about customer service and could not of asked for better treatment. The job was completed in one day, yard picked up from any debris. We highly recommend
and his crew!!!

"The whole process was relatively smooth. Installation took 2 days, as predicted. The crew was professional and courteous, showed up on time and worked efficiently." They took care to cover the carpeting and furniture near the windows they were working on. They were meticulous about the cleanup afterwards, both inside and outside. The Sunrise Restoration windows look nice and seem high quality. The installation job looks great as well. We were definitely pleased with the whole process.

Angie's Answers

?

Hello - I hope my answer will help point you in the right direction.

The reason you're having a hard time getting clear information is because there are hundreds of companies saying their window is the best. There are probably millions of different features you can choose to have for your windows and in price ranges from $169-$1200 (per double-hung window).

I've been in the business for 15 years and have seen many different window products from many different dealers and manufacturers. This all comes down to: "what's important for you and your home?" If you want a strong warranty from a company who has a full-time service department to give you piece of mind and service your windows should needs be, or are you looking at only those companies who offer true wood interior windows that you can paint or stain to match the home decor? Whatever is your hot-button, then that's where you want to start.

I would recommend you first choose how you want your new windows to look. Wood-interior with vinyl clad is only offered by certain companies, while there is a vinyl woodgrain finish to give you similar results without the maintenance. If you're only looking for a white interior and don't want the maintenance, a fiberglass or vinyl window would be the best choice from what is offered in the market today (vinyl will be less expensive - not necessarily cheaper quality). If you are going to change out a window to a french door and a door to a window, then you WILL NEED to find a contractor with some carpentry experience. Some companies will tell you upfront that they do not handle those sorts of remodeling projects due to the complexity and time it would take to get it complete.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to personally help you with your project as we work in the New England Area. However, if you wish to talk further, please feel free to email me at: sven@ritewindow.com and I'll be happy to let you know our prices for what we offer so you can compare and hopefully find a similar company to do the work for you near the Austin area.

Cheers!

?

Get your roofer back out there.  Course of shingles above the window need to be pulled, self sealing flashing, drip caps, and counter and step flashing are going to be required here.

This is a flashing issue as the window connects to the mansard roof surface.

Condensation and a leak are two different and very noticeably different (i.e. volume) things.

Flashing and roofing on Mansards can be tricky but is sounds very much like a roofing issue.

?

+1

Much easier to scratch and typically not as good a finished quality as compared to glass.

Benefits are the resistance to breakage as mentioned by LCD.  Any glazing shop should be able to re-create that panel.

?

For a broken window (or leaking seal in multi-pane unit), for a standard roughly 2x3 foot window, can run from low of about $75-125 for single pane to more like $200-300 range for triple pane, depending on construction and any special ultraviolet or heat reflective coatings. If a removeable window unit, of course cheaper to remove it and take to replacement glass place then have them come out, measure glass size, order glass unit, then come back to install.

If taking in yourself, commonly they can do single-pane in an hour or two, but count on a week or so typically for sealed double or triple pane unit to come in, so you will have to seal the opening in the interim. That is an advantage of having them come out - they measure and determine type of unit on first visit and can seal with tape and plastic sheeting (if you have not already done that), then come back with new unit and install a week or two down the road - but you are not stuck with an opening in the wall for a long time.

?

Thermal numbers look okay when looking at the NFRC.

Do you have any other data on them?  Air infiltration, Design Pressure, Visible Transmittance, and Condensation Resistance are all good evaluators.

http://www.mercuryexcelum.com/images/customer-files/Advantage.pdf

Air infiltration rate is way high at 0.21.

It may look nice in person but the performance numbers are below average.

Altoona Window Installers Provider Name Locked
came out to my house and gave me an estimate. The sales representative was very informative and professional, He did not try to talk me into something I did not need. I told him what I was looking for after getting several quotes from other companies, He understood and worked with me, The installers came out and completed the entire job in one day. They were efficient and very clean. The windows have already saved me money compared to my electric bill from last year and the windows look great.

Initially we had an area in the upstairs ceiling where you could tell there was recent water damage and the drywall tape
was showing through the paint. Concerned with an expensive water repair I called
Altoona Window Installers Provider Name Locked
Case at 5 pm and he was at our house in a couple hours to access the severity.
Altoona Window Installers Provider Name Locked
found the issue via the attic even though the leak wasn't obvious. The Weather was favorable (no rain) that night so we were able to hold off on the repair, but
Altoona Window Installers Provider Name Locked
had someone over the next day with the replacement boot and fixed the leak.
We also had a large picture window that had lost it seal and was becoming more and more hazy.
Altoona Window Installers Provider Name Locked
gave us a quote the same day as the repair. He also gave us additional options on how to address other windows, even when it wasn’t giving his business additional jobs/cash… shows how authentic he is. When we were ready to go forward and get the window replaced I called
Altoona Window Installers Provider Name Locked
and he ordered the window. When the window came in
Altoona Window Installers Provider Name Locked
called me and we scheduled the day of the install. All work was done on time with quality.
I have used

in the past… and if needed I will hire him again.

We really can't say enough good things about this company.
Altoona Window Installers Provider Name Locked
is very professional, personable and most of all honest. He never once tried to push a more expensive window on us. We knew what we wanted and if anything he suggested ways for us to save money. He took his time and listened. He is so likeable you can sit and just talk to him all day.
Most importantly; my husband wanted to have a sliding glass door installed where our master bedroom window is, that way we can walk out to the back yard and have a little patio sitting area. I didn't think it would be a easy or inexpensive because it entailed cutting through brick and so forth. When
Altoona Window Installers Provider Name Locked
came out to give us an estimate, he listened, and evaluated the area and said not a problem in fulfilling this request.
We got a quote from another company ( got their bid before
Altoona Window Installers Provider Name Locked
's) and I about fell out of my chair looking at the cost and this didn't even include the door installation. I told my husband there is NO WAY we can afford to do the windows.
Altoona Window Installers Provider Name Locked
's quote came the next day and it was $4,000 less and this is with the door installation. I could not believe the price hike the first company was trying to pull and they quoted the same brand and style windows.
I was more than happy knowing we could actually replace the windows with
Altoona Window Installers Provider Name Locked
( which were from the 80's and original in the house) my husband was more excited about the walk out patio door.
We ordered the windows and door and approx. 6 weeks later,
Altoona Window Installers Provider Name Locked
's team was out at the house making our house look great. The installers did a fantastic job, and the windows look fabulous. They were very patient with my barking dogs while they were trying to work. We actually get to walk out of our bedroom to our backyard now.
I would most definitely highly recommend this company to EVERYONE! You will not be sorry.

I was very happy with the quality of the work. The workers arrived on time and were very pleasant and careful with the inside and outside of the home. The windows that were installed are beautiful and very high quality. I was concerned that I would feel like I spent a lot of money and might regret it, but that is not the case. I wish I had done this sooner.

I need to replace all the windows in our home because the existing original ones basically don't open and close anymore.
Found this company on Angie's List and decided to contact them based on the high ratings and awards.
I first emailed them a detailed list of all my measurements requesting an estimate. They replied that I would have to call them over the phone. What is the point of accepting emails if you are just going to email back telling me to call you over the phone, instead? Also, all the measurements were provided via email but now I have to take time off from work to have someone come to my house and take the same measurements over again. I understand they will need to measure before I can place an order but for a first estimate they could have saved us both the time and trouble just to give me an idea if I could even afford the windows in the first place.
Fine. I call to have someone come to the house and got my mother to be there since she is semi-retired and I could not get away from work. The phone rep stated that the salesperson would bring samples of the windows so we could try them. I specifically asked that the salesperson bring samples of the three styles of windows I was interested in: (1) double hung, (2) casement rollout and (3) tilt and slide. The salesperson shows up only with one sample of one double hung window (which comes in four different models, per their website). He takes measurements and acts surprised that our measurements were already complete and accurate. Then he gives my mother "approximate" prices for only a few of the windows and refuses to give her a complete estimate for the whole job, just saying that if we're interested he will work with us on the price. How can we decide if we are interested if he won't quote us the whole job? I presume they will want full payment for all windows installed and not just the ones quoted, no?
Next I go out to their showroom, which is an hour each way for me. That starts off great. The salesperson is very helpful and takes plenty of time to show me everything, and they have all the windows I need to see and try right there on display. He takes the measurements I give him and works up an estimate for me, explaining, of course, that someone would have to come to my home to take final measurements prior to finalizing the order but that this was a pretty accurate estimate. Great. He shows me the different models, styles, tints, grids, mechanisms, etc. Great.
Then I ask him how secure the windows are and he says, "Oh, they're secure." I ask for an example of what kind of technical specs he can offer me on how they are burglar resistant or tamper proof, etc. He just says again that I should believe him how secure they are. So I ask if there is an option for laminated glass and he says "yeah but you don't want that." I tell him that actually I am interested in knowing how much more it would cost to get laminated glass and he just says again "No, you don't want that." Without any other specific information like other vendors provide on the strength of their materials or design of their locking/safety mechanisms or any information at all regarding security, at least laminated glass is generally more burglar-resistant but he feels very strongly that I do not want that. Okay. They have it, he says, but I don't want it so he's not going to tell me how much it costs. Okay.
So I go back onto Angie's List and email them again, asking if I can speak with a technician who can answer some questions about the windows that the salesperson could not, and that was putting it kindly. They email me back that I should call and speak to the manager. I call on Monday and am told he is not there but will call me back later when he's back from a service call. Tuesday I call again during my lunch- we gave him the message but he's out on a service call. Wednesday again, same deal. Thursday, today I am writing this at around 8pm and have not heard back from him yet.
I really tried and tried with this company based on the positive ratings but wow they did not make it encouraging and in the end, I can't even get a basic answer to a basic question about a basic window option.
Pricing:
Their quote for their "top of the line windows" was $56,667 for-
27 double hung with 1/2 screens and colonial grids
1 awning with frosted glass
3 triple casements, grids and full screens
4 double casements, internal grids and screens
5 picture windows with grids
but they were "having a sale" and plus the Anglie's List discount he could give them to me for $31,482.
(This was, of course, the typical over-quote and follow with a sale price to make the customer feel like they're getting a great deal when the sale price was the actual price all along, etc. I don't blame him for that, that's just how sales works, so I'm not bringing that part up as a complaint, but just to tell the whole story.)
Personally, I found this to be extremely expensive for this type of window but based on their reviews here I was willing to make a counter-offer and try to work out a fair price, however, they have been so difficult to deal with that I don't think I have the confidence anymore to buy from this vendor.
I've read the other reviews here and I am sure if they respond they will point out their other positive reviews. That's fair enough but when you are the one with the bad experience, how others were treated is little help to your buying confidence.

Very professional and had the quote to me immediately. Unfortunately the quote was too much for me to afford from this company. I got a call back asking if I had the quote and explained to them why I would not be using them. They explained the quote to me in terms I could understand.

A man shows up at our door one evening trying to sell us a new roof. My husband and I
had been discussing the need for a new roof so he agreed to have
someone come out and give us an estimate the next day. When he told me
what he had done, I was very nervous about doing business with someone
who goes door to door. He called and cancelled the appointment. That's
when the nightly phone calls started. I told them in no uncertain
terms not to call us again. It has been an entire month and
we have received a call each evening about the same time. We no longer
answer our phone in the evening fearing it will be this roofing
company. They never leave a message. They also don't give up. I would
never do business with a company that harasses people like this. As
one other reviewer has had a similar experience this is a huge red
flag. You have been warned!

This was one of those times that you realize the value of a family owned/run business.
Altoona Window Installers Provider Name Locked
(the owner) immediately answered my call, set up a meeting the very next day for his son to come out and walk me through their product. The entire experience was impressive as I gained a much deeper knowledge of windows, and feel that I made the right choice.
Altoona Window Installers Provider Name Locked
made sure that I was happy with the product, gave me a great deal on the eight windows and made sure that I had incredibly prompt service. They quoted me 4-5 weeks from measurement to installation and were able to provide the windows within three weeks! The family that came to do the work were clearly experts and went above and beyond in not only sealing the windows but making sure that cracks around the windows were also sealed to help with the insulation of the house and protect it from bugs. They did an EXCELLENT job and were incredibly friendly and caring throughout the process. I would highly recommend this company for future jobs!
