"I previously had used IHC for interior painting and floor refurbishing. Communication issues (emails not returned for two weeks at a time) started right off the" bat, but I was told by the owner it was due to a very busy season which made me feel more confident this wasn’t the norm. Still the jobs completed with only minor quality issues and delays. Next project was a sliding door installation where an existing exterior window originated. The installation of the door not only took days, but weeks. The trim cracked within a day of installation. The installation of the door impacted my recently refurbished hardwood floors. The siding was very rough cut and in some areas over two inches overcut. The contractor left siding scraps in the front and backyard. things were disappointing even such as my broom has gone missing. During installation the individual installing the door showed up at my house around 8:00pm without any notice to “finish”. After they finished we contacted IHC due to all the quality issues we found. responded somewhat defensive, but sent out the siding contractor to fix the issues on the siding along with the individual that installed the door. Soon after the rework was completed it was a heavy rain weekend, water was flooding in from the header above the new sliding glass door. Water pooled on the new flooring, paint and cabinets. Thank God I was home and dry the space as often as possible to prevent long term damage. We contacted IHC immediately and they came to look at the door a couple days later. IHC believed it to be the roof which was installed in 2012. I contacted the roofing company, they came to the house and fixed the areas which they believed to have been letting the water in (which was all under warranty and no charge to me). A month later we received an email from IHC asking who would be reimbursing for their services to troubleshoot the leak; including cleaning my gutters (can you believe they would do this without authorization and then ask who would be paying for it?). Needless to say the sliding door installation ended up starting in the spring of 2015 and completing in fall 2015. No leaks in the past month… Before the leak had appeared I received the final bill for the door installation it was outrageous in my opinion. Originally when provided a quote from IHC they stated it included the purchase of the door (door cost estimated $800). Although when I received the invoice it still included the door purchase (that I purchased myself to avoid the markup) and was more than the original quote. I’ve since then had other contractors complete my remaining window installations and installed a bay window, etc. Every job has been fully completed within a couple hours. Not only completed within a couple hours, but professional and responsive with questions or concerns. I never would have imagined this sliding door installation would have created so many headaches. All I am looking for from IHC is for them to humble themselves enough to recognize the work they provided wasn’t quality. So far, when we contact IHC and challenged the erroneous amount they said it was due to their high emphasis on quality and safety…

"While I believe the contractor is knowledgeable and he probably would have done a good job, my main complaint is the price that was quoted was extremely high for" the labor and materials required. I realize this was a smaller job, but this really should have been less than $1,000 at most and he quoted me $2,400. I am guessing that is because he probably did not want the job being that it was so small, so he need to make it worth his while. Like I said, he was a nice guy so I have no complaints there and he typically responded to my e-mails. However, materials for this job were, at most, a few hundred dollars (and I know that for a fact), so he was building in over $2,000 in labor cost for a job that would only take a day or a day and a half and that is pretty excessive. I don't know many people that would pay that amount. At that price, I can almost start looking at having my trim sided instead of replaced.

You need a general contractor - prefereably one who specializes in additions, because you have excavation, waterproofing, concrete, concrete cutting, carpentry, door and window, etc trades to coordinate.

The cost will depend a great deal on your topography around the house - if the base of the window will be above ground level at least 6 inches, then could run about $500 for a legal egress window purchase and about $1000-2000 for installation, depending on how deep into the concrete you have to cut.

If the bottom of the window will be below ground level, then to call it a bedroom (which mandates legal sized second egress and usauully at least one window)  then you will have two choices - bring it out into a solid watertight concrete storm cellar with collar to keep water out, stairs, and and weather and bug-tight cellar door that is inward-opening, which means a lot of space for stairs and landings top and bottom, or bring it out into an oversized window well at least 36 inches in diameter, and with steps to ground level, with adequate drainage and waterproofing to keep it dry. Either way, sometimes about as easy to put in an outside door as a window, and might raise property value more. Cost from $2-5,000 depending on how deep into concrete wall you have to dig, whether concrete wsall needs reinforcing with steel frame because of the depth of cut, how easy the digging is, and what your water conditions are near the foundation. The last thing you want to do is create an easy water or vermin ingress with your egress.

Dictated by Federal LAW , you will need a Licensed and EPA Certified HVAC Contractor

to make such repairs . In fact , by law , ONLY A licenesed HVAC contractor can buy or install

said eguipment , NOT A handyman nor general contractor !

YES , You should have an A.C. sleeve surrounding the through the wall unit . These sleeves will usually accompany NEW products , either as a package or an add on equipment purchase.

Contact a Licenesed PROFFESSIONAL at once !

It depends on what type of ramp you need. If it is built out of wood you could look for a carpenter or a deck company. If you are looking for a concrete ramp a mason would be what you are looking for. There are also metal ramps and I believe some medical supply companies may carry them or be able to steer you in the right direction. As for insurance coverage I am not sure. You may have coverage and would be best talking to your agent. Depending on why you need this ramp there may even be programs through your local government or even some of the local charities might help. It might be a project a local Scout Troop might help out on.

The window itself is fine and I am satisfied with the installation. I wanted the sill to look like the original. I do not like the way the window sill was done; it does not look like a finished job, it looks like it was just sawed off and was not shaped at all. I do not want to have to put up drapes to cover up this job because they collect dust and ...More are just a pain. When I spoke with the project manager, I told him and showed him what I wanted it to look like. They were not paying attention to what I wanted and how I wanted it done. I have contacted them and spoke with them about the issue, and since it is going to cost them time and money, they are not willing to fix it. I showed the installer how I wanted it to look and it did not turn out right. After the job was finished, one of the employees followed up on the work and I informed him that I was not happy with it. He basically said that there was nothing much they could do and that it was too late since it was already installed. In my eyes, it is not a finished job and I am not happy at all.

was great to work with. From the beginning he was fair and clear with the estimate and stayed within it. During the work, he brought to our attention some other problems that after review clearly needed attention. His prices are competitive and his work is exemplary with a detail that impressed us. We felt comfortable with him ...More in our house and he made a point to keep us updated on the work. We would highly recommend for an estimate and contracted work.

The firm did a very neat job, and completed the job in the time allotted. However, The stain has not kept well - after one winter, I'll have to do it again. I think they must not have sealed the stain as well as it should have been. However, I admit this is the first time I've stained a deck, so perhaps this is normal
- Michele S.

Great work and always updated on progress. He called in specialist when needed - punctual, honest and thorough. Retired Marine - what more could you ask for!
- Elizabeth D.

Excellent service. They arrived at 8AM. The job was completed in about four hours. It was done very well. They were efficient, neat, professional and friendly. When the job was finished, they picked up the drop cloths and vacuumed, leaving the living room as clean and neat as it was when they arrived.
I will be using 's ...More services again after the holidays to have my whole apartment painted. In the Spring, I plan to call him to paint all of the exterior windows on my house.
This was my first experience with Angie's list, and I am very pleased. I highly recommend and his services.
- Tony B.

This was the second time and his crew returned to my home. The first time they built a beautiful front porch for me. This time they completed a number of small jobs (except for the shutters) that required a carpenter. As a single, professional woman, who is always on the go, I can't say enough about how much they helped ...More me and what a beautiful and professional job they did. Sometimes one leaves a bunch of little things that they can't do and wonders, who is going to come to my house to do these small projects. Well, I can say with enthusiasm that they happily did and I highly recommend and his crew.
- Patricia S.

.Unfortunately, I reached out to this provider on three occasions within the last three weeks with very specific information and left my contact information and this provider never had the professional courtesy to at least respond to let me know if either he could or could not take on my project as he was asked to respond accordingly as I was making ...More plans in advance to prepare for the Thanksgiving Holiday. A huge disappointment!
- Renee A.

and his crew did a wonderful job on my vacation home. He came to my house several times to talk about the project and offer solutions to best fit our budget. We had new roof put on the house, along with new decking and railings, new concrete walkway and numerous other items. Once the scope of the project was agreed on, ...More had all supplies on site in a very neat and orderly way. His crew was both pleasant and knowledgeable about what needed to be done. When changes came up on our part, was more than accommodating. When noticed any additional work that needed to be done, he immediately called to discuss and provided a written quote with options. When the project was finished all supplies were removed and the property was left in pristine condition. I cannot rave enough about how happy we were to use as our contractor. We will be using them again in the Spring when our budget allows.
