"When my mother went to hospice care at home, there was an initial buzz of activity as people came to do the intake work with my mother, but when she began to experience" extreme discomfort and became distraught on a Saturday morning, Hospice Staff responded only minimally to phone calls and did not respond to increasingly panicked emails. The remained basically unresponsive on Sunday, saying only that someone would come on Monday. In response to desperate calls on Monday, they assured us that someone would come early Tuesday morning. Tuesday morning came and the nurse called to say she couldn't make it when scheduled and she was asked to come as soon as she could. By 4PM Tuesday, no one had come or called, so I called in a fury - finally someone showed up soon after I called. She indicated my mother had a faint heart beat and then shortly after, shook her head and indicated she was gone. No discussion was made of any resuscitation efforts despite the fact that my mother had not signed a DNR (this is a minor point - I think not trying to revive her at this point was the right decision, but discussing the decision given the lack of a DNR would have been the right thing to do). So basically, my mother and the family friend who was living with her and trying to take care of her were miserable and without support for the last four days of my mother's life. The friend/caretaker still struggles with guilt wondering if she could have said something that would have made them come sooner and I still remember waiting for hours on Tuesday doing minor chores and waiting for the response that didn't come. I seriously considered
- but that would have just kept the wounds wide open. We were entirely abandoned by the Hospice in the 4 days before my mother died. I communicated our experience to the
and Social Worker who called to follow up - they indicated that they would relay my story. The only times I heard from them after that was from fund raisers.

"There has been numerous times that the "provider" didn't call or show up. They have been contracted to give personal care for my ill mother and during" the past 8 months she has lost 1/2 her body weight. No communication between the people that show up and the office. I found her refrigerator w/ spoiled food and took out 3 garbage bags of rotten items. This care provider service has had close to 8 different people show up during the time we have used them. This last episode was that nobody gave care from 12-5-2014 to 12-11-2014. I have contacted the office w/ my concerns and the supervisor "
" could not give a reason and passed the phone to a person that works for her after I asked to speak to the owner
. I have left 3 messages in 2 days and still no return call by him. For a company that claims to care for people it's truley sad to think that there are bed ridden humans that depends on this type of service. If my mother didn't have a loveing family she would be neglected by Avatar.

There was no cost because it was a Medicare program. The staff was incredibly personal, caring, and capable. They provided my brother with excellent comforting care.

I would like to Thank all the staff at

1) I requested help for my wife on the first night to get a catheter and bedpan. I was told that she should just "use" the bed she was sleeping in and some one would be out the next day sometime to help...sometime between 8-5. I had to make several calls to get someone's attention and they finally but reluctantly came out to help. ...More /> 2) There seems to be a constant change of staff with no continuity between members
3) I have tried to contact their "after hours" (which is a joke) to find out why the pain medicine that was promised two day previously has not been delivered. No response/no one can or will help. The have allowed her to run completely out of pain medicine and spend what may be her last day/hours in extreme pain.
3) They only work from 8-5 and after that is extremely difficult to get any help/assistance outside that time frame.
4) Beginning the third month and have only had one 5 minute visit by a doctor that was in a hurry to get in and out.
5) The one positive thing (bedside manner) is that only one nurse (
Newcastle Home Hospice Provider Name Locked
) and one attendant (Crystal) seemed to be the only people that really care about taking care of my wife in her final days.

Medical supplies, an oxygen generator, a commode, and incontinence supplies, arrived the next day. The coordinator arranged for a home health
Newcastle Home Hospice Provider Name Locked
to come each morning to get my husband out of bed, bathed and through breakfast. The nurse comes every week to check his vital signs, and help take care of skin changes. Even though we also have to hire additional help for other times of the day, it is a great relief to have the Samaritan

Newcastle Home Hospice Provider Name Locked

In
Newcastle Home Hospice Provider Name Locked
2014, we received a nebulizer from our doctor's office (retail cost $39.95). We were told this would be covered by our insurance. We received an invoice from
Newcastle Home Hospice Provider Name Locked
dated November 13, 2014 with an initial fee of $23.93 plus a monthly rental fee of $14.71. The total invoice is $82.77 which is more than double the cost of the device. I called
Newcastle Home Hospice Provider Name Locked
, who provides the devices to our doctors office and then bills our insurance company. I spoke with a billing representative,
Newcastle Home Hospice Provider Name Locked
, who was very unprofessional and unhelpful. He insisted that our insurance only covers this item as "rent to own" and stated that they have the right to charge us up to $226 for the "rental" of this device. The rates they are charging both my insurance company and me are completely unreasonable, as this device retails online for $39.95. I explained that we had never agreed to a rental and if we had been billed promptly in
Newcastle Home Hospice Provider Name Locked
, we could have immediately rectified this error and returned the equipment, as we had no intention of renting it. He blamed it on our insurance company and refused to consider refunding the charges. I believe it is fair to charge the actual price of the equipment and I would have gladly paid that price, but I consider this business practice of renting the equipment without fully disclosing this information to the customer, is very unethical.
We are currently being charged for four months of rental fees for a device we did not agree to rent. The invoice was sent four months after the fact. It took three calls before my call was returned, two days later. The representative was rude and unprofessional.

IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR LOVED ONE, DO NOT USE

This organization helped my wife and mother-in-law through a very difficult time. My mother-in-law did not want to die in the hospital and wanted to see friends at the assisted living facility before she passed on. My wife contracted with
Newcastle Home Hospice Provider Name Locked
to make this happen. Her doctor messed things up and assigned her to in hospital hospice care with another hospice provider. My wife was lost as to what to do. She called the care manager at
Newcastle Home Hospice Provider Name Locked
and the care manager got everything straightened out. They made it possible for my mother-in-law to get her wish. They maintained contact with the family and provided a minister to visit with her. The minister was with her as she passed away. They followed up with the family afterward to make sure we were being cared for. This was welcome as the minister at our church passed away the same week. They have made contact with my wife a few times since to make sure my wife is still doing well.
