When workers discovered the cedar siding on Christie New's Indianapolis home required extra primer and had to be brush painted instead of sprayed, she was surprised when manager of operations Danny Juarez didn't raise the price of the job. "Danny seemed like a very sincere, nice guy," she says. "Then, his crew, they were impeccable."

Kacie Axsom of Brownsburg reported similar impressions in one of the company's 35 Page of Happiness nominations in the last year. Juarez painted the home she was purchasing before closing. "He called every day to let me know the status," Axsom says. "If other contractors were like him, it'd be a lot easier to get things done for your house."

Juarez's uncle, Claudio, founded the company 21 years ago in New York and still owns it. Danny expanded to Indiana in 2004, but runs the business on his retired uncle's principles: "If you do the right thing and take your time, at the end of the day you're going to make someone else happy, and you'll be happy," he says.

The painters, who aren't required to be licensed, offer deck staining and painting with low-VOC products.

Lyon Glass Block | Indianapolis

Lyon Glass Block owner Nick Lyon returns as one of Indianapolis' Best Contractors for a fourth year in a row.

In business since 2005 and a recipient of the Angie's List Super Service Award every year since 2006, Lyon credits his winning streak to his involvement in all aspects of his company - from scheduling estimates to the installation of glass block windows, custom bars and showers.

"My competitors have salesmen that don't actually install the block, so when they come out for a consultation they don't know how to set appropriate expectations," he says. "When I go out to look at a job, I'm able to be totally honest about what is and isn't possible."

Lyon, who holds an Indianapolis general contractor's license and recycles the metal frames he salvages from replacement windows, says he believes his dedication to making each customer his No. 1 priority also contributes to his success. "I try to take care of every single customer as if they were my one and only customer," he says. "It's important to me that everyone is happy with my work."

Betty Hurn Johnson, one of the 10 members who nominated Lyon for a Page of Happiness in the last year, hired him to install five glass block windows in the basement of her historic Fall Creek home. She praises Lyon for his courteous and timely communication, neatness and efficiency.

"[He] finished the work and cleaned up all of the mess in just one day," she says. "I couldn't tell anyone had been in my house except for the new windows, which were of good quality and well installed."

Lyon also made an impression on member Judith Buddenbaum, who submitted a Page of Happiness report after he replaced two troublesome windows that caused a flood in the basement of her Castleton-area home.

"Nick came out almost immediately," she says. "I picked him based on his Angie's List reports and grades, and I definitely wasn't disappointed. We had another torrential rain that night - and no water in our basement."

Indy Inspection Service | Indianapolis

Rich Able, owner of Indy Inspection, still finds his job rewarding after 12 years in the business. "I enjoy educating my customers about what's likely to be one of the most important purchases in their life," says the licensed home inspector, who also holds the proper licenses for radon testing and termite inspections.

The five-time Super Service Award winner, who received 14 Page of Happiness nominations in the last year, returns as an Indianapolis Best Contractor for the third year in a row.

Before buying new vinyl windows in preparation to sell his home, member Leonard Brazus of Carmel hired Able for a presale inspection. He says he based that hiring decision upon the company's great Angie's List reviews and volume of Page of Happiness nominations.

"[It] was the best $285 I've ever spent," he says, explaining how Able deemed the existing wood windows in satisfactory condition. "It saved me at least $15,000 in unneeded costs."

Mike Puckett | Indianapolis

After two moves using Realtor Mike Puckett, member Kathleen Brenner of Broad Ripple is definitely sold.

"It's not that other real estate agents were dishonest, it's just that he stands above everyone," says Brenner, adding that Puckett takes the time to greet a pet and has the patience to show a picky buyer house after house.

"I'll show you as many houses as you need to see," says Puckett, adding that he never tries to talk anyone into buying a particular house. "My average number of showings is 15 and I've shown as many as 50. It takes what it takes."

Puckett, who holds a broker's license through the Indiana Real Estate Commission, received 10 Page of Happiness nominations in the last year.

PC Computer Guy | Indianapolis

Member Jean Campbell of Carmel appreciates how owner Nicholas Ellis responds quickly to calls, but takes an unhurried approach to fixing her computer. "Every time we want to learn something new or if we have a problem, we call Nick," she says. "When we wanted a new computer, we let Nick pick it out, install it and the whole works."

Ellis, who's not required to be licensed, received 10 Page of Happiness nominations in the last year from happy customers. He freely offers two tips that he says will prevent many computer problems: "Have good antivirus software and be sure to back up your files."

Ellis volunteers computer and photography services to Kids International Dental Services, which provides free dental services to poor children.

Dave's Window Cleaning | Carmel, Ind.

Member Bill Buschmeier of Noblesville [Ind.] says Dave Sturdivant's cleaning job on several double hung and casement windows impressed him from the start. "He did as well if not better than I hoped," he says.

Sturdivant, whose work doesn't require a license, spent 12 years cleaning the windows of high-rise buildings in Indianapolis, Louisville, Cincinnati and Denver before opening his residential business four years ago.

His secret for cleaning windows has less to do with cleaning products and more to do with experience, he says. "I'm a chemically sensitive person. All I use is Dawn dish soap and water, a squeegee and prewashed surgical towels."

It works, Buschmeier says. "I'm looking out the window right now and the difference is dramatic compared to before he cleaned."
