"Initially called
on 02/06 and talked to person named
. I passed my info to him and I was told a salesman would" contact me. No one called me. I sent an email via Angies List Web site and
replied back and said Sales person
would contact me. The salesman contacted me and set up an appointment. On the appointment's day morning, he called and left voice message that he would not be able to make it due to family reasons. I guess he is the only sales man they got. Salesman and I communicated later to meet at the property on 02/16. On a snowy President Day, salesman arrived and liberally parked his car to my driveway. I arrived shortly after that and had to parked my car to street. He later said sorry and stated that he didn't want his car get side swiped due to snow. Funny
! home owner
at he street and sales man
at the driveway. Salesman looked at both front main door and back door, took measurements and write all those info into small a piece of paper, rather than professional order taking template. This was a red flag. He said he would call me back with pricing on 02/18. He had my phone number and email. As of today, 02/27, I've not heard any one from Mr. Windows. I am not sure what's up with these many good reviews but I will not make business with Mr. Windows. I communicated another vendor and they promptly showed up, took measurements and let me know the price within 2 days. We agreed on the price and both my doors will be replaced soon.

Angie's Answers

?

Hello - I hope my answer will help point you in the right direction.

The reason you're having a hard time getting clear information is because there are hundreds of companies saying their window is the best. There are probably millions of different features you can choose to have for your windows and in price ranges from $169-$1200 (per double-hung window).

I've been in the business for 15 years and have seen many different window products from many different dealers and manufacturers. This all comes down to: "what's important for you and your home?" If you want a strong warranty from a company who has a full-time service department to give you piece of mind and service your windows should needs be, or are you looking at only those companies who offer true wood interior windows that you can paint or stain to match the home decor? Whatever is your hot-button, then that's where you want to start.

I would recommend you first choose how you want your new windows to look. Wood-interior with vinyl clad is only offered by certain companies, while there is a vinyl woodgrain finish to give you similar results without the maintenance. If you're only looking for a white interior and don't want the maintenance, a fiberglass or vinyl window would be the best choice from what is offered in the market today (vinyl will be less expensive - not necessarily cheaper quality). If you are going to change out a window to a french door and a door to a window, then you WILL NEED to find a contractor with some carpentry experience. Some companies will tell you upfront that they do not handle those sorts of remodeling projects due to the complexity and time it would take to get it complete.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to personally help you with your project as we work in the New England Area. However, if you wish to talk further, please feel free to email me at: sven@ritewindow.com and I'll be happy to let you know our prices for what we offer so you can compare and hopefully find a similar company to do the work for you near the Austin area.

Cheers!

Get your roofer back out there.  Course of shingles above the window need to be pulled, self sealing flashing, drip caps, and counter and step flashing are going to be required here.

This is a flashing issue as the window connects to the mansard roof surface.

Condensation and a leak are two different and very noticeably different (i.e. volume) things.

Flashing and roofing on Mansards can be tricky but is sounds very much like a roofing issue.

?

+1

Much easier to scratch and typically not as good a finished quality as compared to glass.

Benefits are the resistance to breakage as mentioned by LCD.  Any glazing shop should be able to re-create that panel.

?

For a broken window (or leaking seal in multi-pane unit), for a standard roughly 2x3 foot window, can run from low of about $75-125 for single pane to more like $200-300 range for triple pane, depending on construction and any special ultraviolet or heat reflective coatings. If a removeable window unit, of course cheaper to remove it and take to replacement glass place then have them come out, measure glass size, order glass unit, then come back to install.

If taking in yourself, commonly they can do single-pane in an hour or two, but count on a week or so typically for sealed double or triple pane unit to come in, so you will have to seal the opening in the interim. That is an advantage of having them come out - they measure and determine type of unit on first visit and can seal with tape and plastic sheeting (if you have not already done that), then come back with new unit and install a week or two down the road - but you are not stuck with an opening in the wall for a long time.

?

Thermal numbers look okay when looking at the NFRC.

Do you have any other data on them?  Air infiltration, Design Pressure, Visible Transmittance, and Condensation Resistance are all good evaluators.

http://www.mercuryexcelum.com/images/customer-files/Advantage.pdf

Air infiltration rate is way high at 0.21.

It may look nice in person but the performance numbers are below average.

If you are being sued and/or counter suing, then you should hire a lawyer.  While you can do small claims court and sue without a lawyer, the Contractor's insurance will provide him a lawyer to defeat you.  Plus, odds are good the Contractor has more court experience than the average Home Owner, especially if this is his standard opperating procedure.  If you go against a lawyer, you will lose, even if you are right (Saying the right thing at the wrong time is very bad in court rooms.  Get a lawyer who knows the processes).

Once you decide you are suing, there should be no further contact or access to the property with the contractor.  If you have already been told you are suing, you should stop all access to your property (you are allowing them to gather evidence AGAINST you.  Your lawyer may be able to reach an agreement outside of court to allow the contractor to fix the work within a specific time period, but even then make sure you are not in contact with the contractor.  Anything you say, will be turned against you ("The Home Owner said it was okay.")

A building official has no legal obligation in court; his job is safety and minimum construction requirements as allowed per Code.  He has no say over materials and methods, and cannot assess damage. (IRC doesn't have a requirement that the door you mention exceed 35", so he won't care it isn't 36" as an example).  What he CAN do is state if the work is unsafe or causing other conditions which are unsafe.  Let your lawyer decide; but it is not in your best interest to have the Building Offical inspect with the contractor.

To sue you need to show damages.  Get another contractor (get some references or hire an architect to help ensure you get what you need) to inspect the work and give an estimate to repair.  The amount the contractor(s) estimates becomes what you seek in court (plus court fees) from the contractor.  If his work caused problems, you should be suing, not sued.

Also, be aware that no door manufacturer makes an actual 36" door (as an example).  They each have their own frame sizes, so a "36 door" in reality will be 35 7/8" to 35 3/8".  Each door maker has slightly different sizes (go online, you can see Pella, Anderson, Kolbe-Kolbe, etc. have their actual sizes available for PDF downloads).  If you replace a Pella 36" with an Anderson's 36" they won't fit perfectly.  In fact, the different styles within the same manufacturer are sometimes even different.  The purpose of trim is to hide the gap between the wall and door frame, so your door may be perfectly fine in size and method of installation.

When you have this work corrected (and for any future work) utilize the services of a lisenced Architect.  They will oversee the work, review requests for payments and document existing conditions and conditions found during construction to prevent the situation you are now in.  They will also ensure the proper permits are filed and the inspections called for.  Because they are a third party to the agreement, they can be the 'bad guy' and make the contractor perform, where you just have to pay the invoices they approve.  The contractor deals with the Architect (and vice versa) and you get the project you wanted. The cost of the architect would have been around $3,200 and is minimal compared to what you are dealing with now, the peace of mind is worth it and architects often find cost savings that go directly back to the Home Owner.  When you account for time alone, you will have spent more than this on just preparing and attending the court case.

Because this is headed to court, stop all communication with the contractor and get yourself counsel.  Good luck.

After getting a couple pushy and pricey sales pitches from some well known companies, I saw that
Medford Window Installers Provider Name Locked
was offering a special through Angie's List, and thought I'd try them out. The quality of their windows seemed as good as if not better then anything else I had seen. The best thing was...no sales pitch. They quickly showed me the info I was asking for and left it at that. From start to finish my experience with
Medford Window Installers Provider Name Locked
was very positive. They offer a high quality product without the pushy sales pitch. The installers were professional, worked very efficiently, and cleaned up nicely. T

I purchased new windows for my home with full installation from K Designers. Everyone I worked with was knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. I have an older home and the windows look great. I have already noticed that my heat doesn't kick on as frequently and expect the same with the AC when the summer comes. The install started on time, took only one day, and they left my home cleaner than when they came. I was always able to get someone on the phone to answer my questions and they took the extra time to come back to my home and make sure I was 100% satisfied. From start to finish it was a great experience!

If you have an appointment with them or have signed a contract get out as fast as you can. They will use hardball sales tactics and misinformation to scare you into signing with them on their initial appointment so you don't have a
Medford Window Installers Provider Name Locked
to review other companies or their reviews and realize what a joke their cost is. I had an inspection done of my roof and was told that it needed to be replaced. They spent hours going over their company and how great there products and their company is. Then they will alarm you with all the issues you will have if you don't get the job done with them. Finally, they will talk about their products and warranties and how they take care of their customers. Then comes the pitch, "based on all this information is there anything other than price that would stop you from signing with us today?". It's used to get your agreement on this little item so that when they give you their exorbitant price your a little more likely to agree again. This is when the sales rep gave us the price of $32000 to replace a 28 square roof using the gaf slateline shingles. This is over $1142/sqaure when the average cost for a new roof is roughly $300-500/square. After they stop your heart with their price here comes the second pitch (and this is the one that shows they are just trying to get you signed and don't care about you). If you sign today they will drop the price so that they can keep their employees busy. Our new prices was dropped all the way to $26000 but only if we signed that day without being able to take time to get other quotes, more information about roofing jobs, and more information about their company in general. This is a hardball sales tactic and whenever you see this be leery as it means that they don't actual believe that what they are selling is a value. If it was a true value they would be ready to take on other companies, have people find out more about their company (rather than just the misleading information they give), and stand behind their price even though it is high because they truly felt that what they are selling is worth their higher price. I have had several companies come and give me quotes and all are in $8000-10000 range. All have better ratings on Angies List, and all have comparable products and warranties, That's another thing, don't be fooled by their warranty. Their 50 year or lifetime warranty (can't remember now which), you can get directly from the manufactures for a pittance of the cost just by using a certified installer of their products and then you don't have to worry if Unique goes out of business because you can use any certified installer later to get your issues fixed. DO NOT BE FOOLED. Unique will try to scare you into doing business with them. Be smart enough to do your research and see that they are not all they claim and there are a lot of better options out there. By the way, think about this. Unique's quote was over double that of any other company, so of course they can offer a lifetime warranty, first they get the warranty through the manufacturer, then they have already charged you for installing the roof twice. Either way they make a killing and you get screwed.

I used
Medford Window Installers Provider Name Locked
for my windows which they did a great job on the windows so I went back to them to do my siding, BIG MISTAKE! The salesman came out on 11/11/14 and the contract was placed that same day, I made a $3000 deposit on 11/11/2014. I was told it would be about 6 weeks for the order to come in and once it did they would call to schedule the service appointment. The first week of December 2014 I called to let the salesman know that I had received my Home Owners Assoc. approval, he advised the order had been placed and again they would call when it came in. I never heard from them in January, which is when the 6 weeks would have been. I called on Monday, February 16th and was told a supervisor would need to call me back, never received a call. I called again on Tuesday, February 17th was told again that a supervisor would need to call me back, I finally was called and told that their installation crew had quit in DECEMBER! I was then told that my $3000 deposit would be refunded right away, no further compensation for my inconvenience! NO One called me I had to call FOUR months later to be told they could not complete the job! The deposit still was not refunded as of Thursday, February 19th so I called again and was told by the supervisor that he would email a copy of the receipt to me, I provided my email address. Never received a copy, so I called on Friday, February 20th and was told the supervisor would need to call me back as he was not available, never heard from him all day so I called around 4pm and was told he had left for the day! I think steam was actually coming out of my ears by this time. I explained to the person on the phone that he was supposed to email a receipt of the credit to me and she said that the credit was showing in her system and it was just processed that day, Friday, February 20th!!!!! Not Tuesday, February 17th as I had been told, because the credit had to be approved before processed but again I was never advised of this. The credit still did not show as of Monday, February 23rd I called and spoke to the supervisor and he advised me that the reason the email of the receipt had not been sent was because they didn't have my email address, which I gave it again and finally received the receipt. The credit was finally showing on Thursday, February 26th! This whole situation could have been avoided had
Medford Window Installers Provider Name Locked
been upfront with me, they made a bad situation 10 times worse by lying to me at every turn!

We love the windows, BUT, they have a ghost like leakage between the pains. When the cold weather came 2 of the sashes leaked. Leaked meaning there was moisture between the pains of glass. You can not wipe it off, on the inside or outside. The moisture is between the glass. When we first reported this, they immediately sent us two new sashes. The next cold front came through and we have even more sashes leaking. We have been talking to
Medford Window Installers Provider Name Locked
for weeks now and they keep giving us excuses as to why the windows are doing this. They blame our house....they blame how we heat our house.....but yet not ALL the windows are doing it. The company sends folks to the house but by that time, the weather has warmed up and the ghost like haze is gone. We have taken pictures and sent them but they don't seem to help.
This company works on a referral program, they continue to call us with hopes that we have friends lined up for new windows and we keep telling them we can not refer as long as we are having trouble. That person will tell us, that he will get everything set right, but yet nothing happens. Then in a few weeks the same referral man will call, asking for referrals, and again we will tell him about the problems, and again he will state that he will get things fixed for us, but nothing.
Today my husband , called the company, again, and they said they would replace all the bad sashes. But soon after that call he got another call from the Vice President of the company and he said before we replace the sashes we will send a representative out to our house. This will be the 3rd time a rep has come to the house to now avail.

Mentor Windows had a great selection of sizes and types of sheds all set up and took their time explaining set up and options to us.They arranged installation. We opted for a ridge skylight, a window, ramp and metal thresholds for both doorways as well as dimensional shingles. We also opted for their installers to set and level the base. We were contacted to set the date of installation as well as with a reminder. Installers were professional and worked like a well oiled machine! They were fabulous. They were sensitive to our every want. they completed construction and made sure everything was to our satisfaction before they departed.
