Parma Deck Builders Reviews

"My front porch needed to be repaired. The corners where the pillars support the roof overhang had rotted and the pillars were sinking through the porch floor.
Parma Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
responded quickly to my call for an estimate and came out within a few days to take a look. He provided me an estimate menu, where I could select which options I wanted him to perform, such as replacing all the railing vs just a post, replacing all floor boards vs just the damaged ones and if I chose for him to paint the porch or not. I chose the options that were best for the repair needed and fit within my budget.

was very accommodating and never pressured me into options not required.

and his team fixed the porch within 2-3 days and kept me informed of their progress at all times. After the job was complete,

checked again to see if I was satisfied with the work and even came back to caulk the pillars after I had applied primer to the porch.

and his team were efficient, professional, friendly and tidy. I would recommend them to everyone and would absolutely hire them for another project.
"I called him he came out. He was courteous and kind and on time. The job was all A's across the board. He was clean and respectful. I would recommend him to anyone. I have given his card to people."
"Excellent. Beginning with our first meeting with
Parma Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
-he listened to our thoughts and concerns, addressing each one. He was very informative, knowledgeable about his product, thorough, precise. Once the agreement was signed to have the work done, he kept us clearly informed through phone messages as to what to expect on each day - including when to expect the city inspector. His crew was excellent as well. They were punctual, polite, clean, neat and again precise. You could tell that they took pride in what they were doing."

was on time for the first appointment. The price was lower than expected, and job was completed in a timely fashion, and done very neatly"
"They called her back and kept her informed on what was going on. They cleaned up every night- put wood down so not to cut up the lawn. Very nice. A little late getting started."
"Installer did excellent job of installing railings. You try drilling straight hole in concrete slab and stone steps.. He repaired the front porch iron railings."
"Bill and his team were punctual, informative, very reasonably priced, and very meticulous. Bill came out to give us the estimate and explained exactly how he was going to install the deck. He explained the differences with natural wood as opposed to composite which we really appreciated. He was patient when we asked questions and spent time answering them. Bill went out of his way to make sure that we understood exactly how the deck was being built and were satisfied with the plans. Bill did not rush to give us a square foot estimate on the spot. Better yet, he went home and did a layout of the deck and gave us a price based on the actual material that would be needed to complete the project. Along with his estimate he sent two computer generated pictures of what the deck would look like. The job went smoothly and he was able to complete the project ahead of time. Overall my wife and I could not be happier with the finished deck and will enjoy it for many years to come.
Bill takes much pride in his work. I would highly recommend

"All went very well.

showed up on time. He explained the product and services in a timely manner. Not pushy on the sales. Gave a good time table on when the work would begin and be finished. Two men

and Sloth did the majority of the work and it was all done professionally.

City inspector very pleased with their work. Answered any and all questions that I had. Did extra work meeting our chain linked fence to the new deck so our dog was still secured in the yard. Only small concern was

and Sloth used English as their second language so most conversations were short and sweet, although this left them more time for working and less time chatting with me or anyone else. Great job and very happy with the complete job.

is wonderful, he has great communication skills, and is very understanding. However, he used a laborer who is the reason why I rated a B quality. After meeting with
Parma Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
to go over my plans, I was so impressed. Then, when he showed up to do the job, the kid who he used as a laborer is the reason why there is the 'flunkie contractor' stereotype. The kid was spending more time pulling up his baggy pants than doing work. He cut several pieces of wood inconsistent, so when they lined up, it was off. I requested they were recut, and
Parma Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
was very accommodating and remade the cuts. A comment was made that it was wasting money....but i paid for the lumber, it wasn't returnable, and if it needed to be redone to be right, it should be.
Also, there was an issue with the wood ordered. Some of the pieces were rough cut and too large. Now living with the deck a year later, it's such an eyesore and I've had several splinters because of it.
Parma Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
mentioned it was not the normal pieces his supplier sends, but I wish he would've stopped the job, called the supplier and fixed the issue instead of using it. OR, cut them down to the proper size and smooth them with a finisher. There were also a few other cuts that were off that i saw the next day, but overall it was a very nice job. A very structurally sound deck.
"5/15/12: told by salesman and division manager that construction for room would begin in 6 wks which would put the start date approx. the last week of June. When I didn't hear anything by 6/14, I contacted company and was told that salesman has no iedea regarding construction. The actual start date was 7/31/12. Quite a difference. I was also told that windows and screens have a lifetime warranty. Later I was informed that a service call fee would be charged for any repairs; not what I was
Parma Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
to believe.
7/31/12: first day of construction: much to my dismay, nothing was done. Apparently, the crew could not find any concrete at Home Depot. Really?? Why didn't someone plan ahead and make sure the necessary supplies were purchased prior to the job? Also, I wasn't even given a courtesy phone call, I had to find out when I returned home that nothing was accomplished that day.
8/7, 8/8: No work done, death in family of one of the crew. However, when I called to see if the other installer was available to get at least something accomplished, I was told that the other installer wasn't able to work alone because he wasn't know well enough at the company. That certainly inspired confidence in the quality of work to be done.
8/9: crew gone by 12:30pm, hardly anything done, no explanation given.
8/14: rain in the morning, clear by noon, crew did not show up, despite assurances that they would be there everyday until the job was done.
8/20: crew stayed until 6pm, pleasant surprise!
8/21: crew gone by 1pm! Apparently called to another job- what about my job?
8/22: did not have correct finishing nails for the inside trim of sliding glass door, more wasted time
8/24-8/25: happy that the work would be finally done! However, wasted the entire weekend staying home. Only a miniscule amount of work was done, and an auger remained stuck in the ground. Apparently, 2 installers were supposed to be there, only 1 showed up, and he couldn't do much because the work left was a two man job. More wasted time, and a weekend ruined.
8/25: Still not done, wrong nails used on deck! Wood split, 13 rails had to be replaced. Also gouged wood and wood with the bark still on it had to be replaced. Not sure why damaged wood was used in the first place.
A promised 10 day job stretched into a 30 plus day job. When I presented this experience to the company, and requested a monetary compensation, all I received was a $50.00 restaurant gift card; definitely not satisfactory.
Also, I was charged $500.00 precautions that the siding crew had to take during the siding procedure. No precautions were taken, and I had to fight to get compensated for what I thought was a fradulent charge. I did get $300.00 back.
In regards to the siding, I was very pleased with the work.
To conclude, this was a very stressful, expensive and aggravating experience mostly due to the company's admitted lack of ability to handle multiple jobs and inefficient work crews.
