"I was really impressed with
responsiveness and flexibility. he always returned my calls and was able to work around my schedule to come and" look at the job (Saturdays, evenings). The work performed was done in a timely manner, especially considering the weather we have been having. And the best part is the work looks fantastic! i hung this
myself, and while i didn't do a terrible job, it wasn't the best. the guys made it look like all the work had been done by a pro! i will defiantly be calling

Remodeling tip: Should painting or flooring come first?

Angie Hicks responds to a member who wants to know whether interior painting should come before or after the installation of hardwood flooring.

Interior Painting

Professional decorators say painting is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to dramatically change the look of a room. It's also one of the more accessible do-it-yourself projects for the homeowner, though a professional interior painting company will likely do a better and more long-lasting job.

That's very difficult to answer without seeing the house. As one poster said, the prep is the most important part. On newer homes that don't have a lot of peeling paint, the prep can be very minimal even as low as a couple or a few hundred dollars for the prep labor.

On a 100 year old home with 12 coats of peeling paint on it, then the prep costs can be very high and can easily exceed 50% of the job's labor cost.

A 2100 sq ft two story home could easily cost $1000 just for the labor to prep for the paint job. That number could climb too. Throw in lots of caullking  or window glazing, and you could be talking a couple or a few hundred dollars more for labor.

Painting that home with one coat of paint and a different color on the trim could run roughly $1000 or more just for labor. Add a second coat  and that could cost close to another $1000 for labor.

For paint, you may need 20 gallons of paint. You can pay from $30-$70 for a gallon of good quality exterior paint. The manufacturer of the paint should be specified in any painting contract. Otherwise, the contractor could bid at a Sherwin-Williams $60 per gallon paint and then paint the house with $35 Valspar and pocket the difference. $25 dollars per gallon times 20 gallons? That's a pretty penny too.

That was the long answer to your question. The short answer is $2000 to $4000 and up, depending upon the amount of prep, the number of coats, the amount of trim, and the paint used.

Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
?
This is a good question.  However, the question makes the assumption that there is a paint that covers everything in 1 coat, which I don't believe is the case.  My recommendation is Benjamin Moore's Aura.  Now the fine print.  Aura will cover very well because it dries to approximately twice the thickness of other paints.  However, Aura says it will cover any color in never more than 2 coats, but there are exceptions to that as well, including some deep reds.  The main thing is the color change.  If the color you are using is within the same family of colors, you have a chance, we've also had pretty good success of grey covering over tan in 1 coat, but if you're making a major color change, don't expect any paint to cover perfectly in 1 coat.

Some other 1 coat coverage paints you could use would be Sherwin Williams Duration, and Behr Ultra Premium Plus.

Hope this helps!

Remember, you not only have to remove the popcorn texture, but also redo the ceiling in some other texture.

Price will depend on several factors:

1) how much the contractor you choose hates removing popcorn or textured ceilings - some charge $1 or so/SF extra just because they hate it. There are even some who bid total drywall replacement cheaper than removing the popcorn, so you have to first find contractors who are happy to do that work, or your prices will be out of the realistic range

2) if the popcorn predates about 1990, then it could likely have asbestos in it, which doubles or triples the price, and in many cases uncapsulating it with a spray coating and then removing the drywall entirely is actually cheaper than all the protective measures necessary if it is scraped off.

3) whether the popcorn is primarily gypsum and vermiculite (comes off REAL easy) or was the plaster of paris variety, which takes a fair amount of soaking to soften it enough to scrape off

4) what type of finish you are replacing it with - if a textured ceiling, slapcoat, knockdown finish or paneling, not real problem. If you want to go with a perfectly smooth ceiling (generally a bad idea as any variations in the drywall on a ceiling surface really shows up dramatically), then it will demand a lot of care in preparing the scraped surface, and a complete surface drywall compound skim coat to smooth out the scrapes and gouges from the removal process.

5) what underlying conditions are - if there is a lot of furniture to move around (should go to adjacent rooms) or cover and work around, high-quality rug or hardwood floor to super-protect or such, will drive cost up.

I have seen costs run from as low as $0.60/SF to $1.25/SF (for removal only). Generally, remove and recoat with a surface texture of some kind (anything but smooth) and paint will run you about $2.50-3.50/SF.

Now the bad news - if asbestos containing, can run from $5-10/SF. Many homeowners in that situation go the other legal route - have it encapsulated with an asbestos-rated sealant by an asbestos contractor, then paint it and leave it for the next homeowner to decide what to do about it. Some contractors encapsulate it and then put a 1/4" thick drywall layer over it - this usually looks like a disaster unless it has a VERY rough textured finish on it, because putting drywall sheet over a rough surface like popcorn invariably means a wavy surface commonly looks like a gently rolling ocean surface.

?
Without seeing the project I'm not sure exactly what is happening.  HOWEVER, I've never heard of someone "floating" over paint blisters - just logically that can't work.  If air or moisture are trapped (because that's what causes blisters) painting over them won't fix the initial problem.

I have a couple suggestions - My first would have been to contact the paint manufacturer - whether it's sherwin williams, benjamin moore, behr, etc. to see if they would send a rep out to give their recommendation.  We have done this before starting a project to get the best possible recommendation for work to be done and have found them to be very helpful in diagnosing what is currently going on and the best way to fix it.

If that doesn't work, I would call either the better business bureau or maybe the local paper if your contractor isn't willing to work through the problem with you.  Also, If your contractor warrantied the work I might re-read that to see what they cover if anything.

My guess is that there will have to be some sort of dispute resolution process.

Hope this helps!

If you want the job done right and for a fair price,
Greenville Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
is the way to go. I called in
Greenville Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
when I discovered some minor molding in the master bath on some wall paper. Having just repainted most of the house personally, I knew how much work the bathroom would take and it wasn't a job I was willing to tackle on my own.
Greenville Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
came in, gave a fair price and did stunning work. It was absolutely perfect. His attention to detail was incredible. I have hired other painters in the past and had been hesitant to do so again until I ran into
Greenville Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
. Where other painters will cut corners and do what they can get away with,
Greenville Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
works until the job is done and done correctly without additional cost to you. He will sweat the smallest details and leave you amazed at the outcome. He removed the wallpaper, the caulking that had been sealing it to the walls, and the mold. He then proceeded to fix various problem areas on the walls created by things I had removed from them. When it came time to paint it, he was kind enough to suggest a great color as well. After all of that, he cleaned up after himself so well that you couldn't tell he had ever been there. I was truly impressed not only by his work but by his character. Having just suffered the loss of my father, there have been numerous vendors that have tried to
Greenville Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
me on project costs. That is not the case with
Greenville Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
. He is an honest, diligent, and skilled painter. You will be glad if you hire him.

was wonderful to work with and did an incredible job of painting the walls and painting the mural of our home. He was friendly, punctual, and flexible. At the same time he was working on painting I was having my floors redone and he kept in contact with the floors guys to coordinate times he could paint. I could have asked for a better person to have done the job and would definitely uses his services, and recommended him to family and friends.

I just can't say enough praise for

Zeski's painting crew! They were professional, cared about their quality of work and were respectful and hardworking. They were punctual and extremely courteous the entire 5 days it took to paint everything. I had a couple of places that the drywall needed repair and I swear if I showed you the area - you would not be able to see where the problem was. Because of their hard work, my home has never looked better and I couldn't be happier. I am thrilled with this entire job! To summarize my experience with

expertly repaired and blended in the new sheet rock into the existing ceiling, using sheet rock tape and multiple layers of various compounds, to invisibly hide the seams. Additional high quality patching was performed in other areas of the ceiling, where an electrician had recently added new recessed lights and holes to fish electrical wires.

was very meticulous, wrapped our entire kitchen in plastic sheathing to control dust spreading during sanding of the joint compound, and used a vacuum to catch sanding debris while sanding, to minimize dust and clean up.
Greenville Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
primed all patched areas, painted the ceiling with two coats of high quality paint. He took the same care in covering all of the walls, floors and appliances, so that they would not be splashed with any paint drippings.
We also expanded the job and asked
Greenville Interior Painters Provider Name Locked
to paint the family room ceiling and repair and replace three large areas of sheet rock the garage area that had fallen down, and install R30 addition insulation into the garage ceiling. Member

All the work done at my house was completed on time, as directed, and it looks beautiful! I hired them due to their strong rating on Angie's list and things looked good when the work was initially finished. Unfortunately, over time it became evident that the quality of work was not what I had originally thought it was. This review is being completed 1.5 years after work was done. The reason I'm doing it now is because I'm progressively more disappointed in the quality of work that was done. I'm getting to the point where I already need to repaint the house again which is unacceptable. Here are the four issues I have with the work done: 1. Uneven coverage and colors underneath are bleeding through. Before hiring, I specified that there would be a minimum of two coats of paint on all surfaces to make sure the finish was good. They said that there was no question that they would do this. After about six months after work was completed, I started to notice areas where the color underneath was bleeding through and this problem has continued to get worse. It appears that the surface was not properly prepped before the paint was applied and/or they didn't put sufficient number of coats on the surface. I want to note that they were not repainting over dark colors and so this is a result of them doing a quick and sloppy job. 2. Caulking job was also of poor quality. All over my house, you can now see cracks where they must have applied caulk. I am unsure why this would happen so quickly but I assume it is due to the kind of caulk used or the way it was applied. 3. Removed my light fixtures but were unable to put them back up after work was complete. 4. They reinstalled the hardware on my windows and now a number of handles and latches are loose or have fallen off.
As you can tell, I'm not happy with the quality of work and would not recommend them to others.

Here's what went right : - The wallpaper removal job went smoothly, and the workmen vacuumed and cleaned afterwards. - One of the workmen carried away 2 bags of debris from the wallpaper job, after I mentioned that I had no easy way to dispose of them personally. This was much appreciated. Here's what went wrong : - This provider twice cancelled scheduled appointments – in both cases minutes before arrival time. - Rescheduling the first appointment was difficult, as the provider did not respond to my emails or phone calls. I eventually had to ask the Angie team to facilitate rescheduling. - Despite my repeated requests for changes to be communicated to me by phone (I do not have a smart phone which captures email, and it is not possible for me to constantly check personal email for possible messages because of work commitments), the owner refused to comply. The reason he gave is that Angie urges its providers to use email in order to preserve copies of communications -- which is understandable. However, given client preferences, it is always possible to call, then follow up with an email for the record. This awkward method of communication made the cancellations and rescheduling even more personally inconvenient. - Prior to painting, I covered some of the furniture with sheets, and left drop cloths to cover the rest after the pieces had been moved away from the walls; however, the cloths were not used and the top of a hutch now contains drops of white paint from when the ceiling was painted. - The painting job was sub-standard. There were 2 patches on the wall which were not fully covered and in which the underlying wall showed through. In addition, the painter did not remove a wall vent before painting, instead painting around and slightly over the edges of the vent. This resulted in small patches of paint peeling off when I removed the vent to clean it a week and a half after the job was completed. I had to repair all of these defects personally. - The owner indicated he would call me after the final work was completed to ensure everything was satisfactory. I did not hear from him.
