estimated that he could rebuild my spalling chimney, or level it to the roof and cover it over with slate, in three days for $1,500. It turned out that he did not have much idea how old chimneys (1929) were constructed. Mine had four concentric rings of brick and was built like a fortress. He had three men working on it, intermittently, for a week. One day they showed up at 9 a.m., the next day at noon. Sometimes they went to the other side of the city to buy cheap gasoline. They left ladders up, tarps and ropes in place, for most of a week, including 4th of

weekend. Then they decided that both a complete rebuild and a leveling were too time-consuming, so we settled on a partial re-build of the top of the chimney. To be fair, the workmen did a nice job on this. It was nicely painted, with a new cement cap and a steel cover, and a year later it looks good. No problem with the work per

or the workmen. The owner, however, was full of palaver, promises -- but no performance. Cleanup was abysmal. We had to haggle over the final price, which was beyond any of his estimates. I would not use this contractor again simply because of the aggrevation.
"I had a chimney cap that i needed placed in a house we just bought and paid for a $99 big deal through Angies list for four hours of masonry work. The guy came to my house one time to get a bead on what needed to be done and i never saw him again afterwards. He called me twice after i had searched him out and emailed him a couple times and then over the second phonecall we discussed the job that needed done as well as agreed that he would go and seek out some prices of caps for the chimney. I have yet to hear from him ever since. I have always been a proponent of supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs especially in this economical climate, and it is characters such as the above mentioned that give all others a bad name."
" I called on 6-24-2011 and left a message indicating that I had a damaged chimney and that I was interested in getting an estimate from

on repairing or rebuilding it. I received a return phone call that day from a woman who took additional information from me and said she would give it to

so he could put me on the schedule. I indicated I wanted to be notified before he came so that I could be here to talk with him. When I did not hear back after several days I called again and left a message. That phone call was not returned.
If he was not interested in the job for whatever reason, I would have appreciated knowing that sooner rather than later. it would have been far more courteous and certainly more professional for someone to have called back than to have left me hanging.
"They came as scheduled and spent an entire day in fixing the same. They did a good job and I will continue to use their services in future."
"Good. Very professional. The fact that for a high price, contractor had to come back to do a satisfactory job. Keep an eye on finished product. He did only what he thought he needed to do. Break down price so I could pick & choose what I needed & what was "nice to do"."

was timely in coming out to give me an estimate. He and his crew were friendly, and very accommodating when a few additional areas were found that needed repair. I also appreciated him coming back at a later date to redo the steps after I noticed that the color of the mortar was different than what we had originally discussed."
"He was wonderful! Called before coming, arrived, gave me an estimate and did the work on same day. Work was excellent. Price was a bargain and he was a very nice man."
"I was impressed with their quick scheduling. They did good work. We did have a problem, but they were very generous in solving the problem. In the end, they did a high quality job."
"I believe this company did quality work. They were very honest. Our deposit check wasn't cashed until work began, which was 4 or 5 months after we contracted with them and sent the check. The only negative, albeit minor, was they really didn't keep us informed about the start of work. We had to call monthly to follow-up. When they finally started, no one was at home and a car was blocked in the garage by a scaffold. Overall
