"Contacted them via email for a routine inspection and to look at seals. They had someone out within two days! Very good experience. Their prices are very reasonable" and the work quality was excellent. I will use them again.

-Patrick S.

"I had a negative experience with this company and was frustrated and confused by the way they treated me. I initially called during business hours (around 10:00am" on a weekday) to report my problem. I indicated that I needed to have service that same day, but that I couldn't do it during business hours because of work obligations that day. The person on the phone in their service department told me she could schedule me in for emergency service that evening, which I accepted. She said that a technician would call me between 5:00pm and 6:00pm that evening to indicate the time they would arrive that night. I waited by the phone at the appointed hour, but no one called. Around 6:05pm I called their number and spoke with their emergency service representative. He said he would contact the technician on call to see what was going on. Still no response. I called again at 7:05pm, only to be told by yet another representative that a new emergency ticket was being put in because supposedly there was none on record. Only at that point did I receive a call back from the on-call technician, who finally showed up and completed the repair around 8:00pm. The technician had no record of anything I had been told back at 10:00 in the morning. I was frustrated by the poor communication, the constant run-around, the waiting, and the different answers I got every time I called back to check in. I imagine that the repair they completed is sound, but the customer-service experience was horrible.

Here's the video I used - I found it pretty helpful:

Garage door spring replacements cost me less than $100 by doing it myself and only took me about 25 minutes. As far as I know, changing out the garage door springs will solve most issues. I found at kit online at a place called garage door nation and just bought that one since they seemed the most legit and included all the extras.

I am usually not good with these types of things. I saved almost $500 by doing it myself.

Hope this helps!

Assuming you are talking rollup garage door - issues similar but not as many parts on a tilt-up door.

Many rollup doors in residential use go 30 years or more on original springs.

Generally, they do not need to be replaced till they break. A broken one should be pretty obvious - the door will open very hard because it is being pulled up more at one side than the other, if at all, and one spring will be wound tight while the other will be looser, and usually the break is a visibly obvious one - either a visible break in the main portion of the spring, or the free end that goes into the end plate is broken off. Compare the springs against each other to see they look the same.

Also, if you think a spring is broken but can't see anything wrong, maybe the set screws that hold the end plates tight onthe axle have vibrated loose, relaxing the tension on the spring.

As the door gets older you may need to have a garage door repairman adjust the spring tension tighter if the door starts opening hard or balking at opening, though that is more often a problem with dirty slider track and bearings from dust accumulation, which you can clean with WD40 and then lubricate the side support rollers with motor oil or household oilcan. On lubrication of the slider track there are differences of opinion - some say clean with a non-oily solvent like brake cleaner and leave it clean and ddry so dust does not stick to it, other say oil with a light household oil or WD40. I prefer the latter so the plastic slider does not get worn out sliding on the metal slider track or pole, though it definitely does accumulate an oily dust grunge. The cleaning and lubricating should be done at least yearly - every 3-6 months if you use the door multiple times a day, more often if you are in a real dusty area like the Dust Bowl, the desert, or close to the beach.

I think he is trying to upsell you on something you don't need, or their company policy is neer fix, always replace - some companies are in that mode not, to prevent future call-backs when it does not work.

IF only needs screws, sounds like a good do it yourself job with self-tapping sheet metal screws. Or a Handyman could do for maybe $50-70 if that is all that is needed.

If the weatherstrip is damaged and in on the front edge of the garage door, one other possibility - replace with one like this, or screw a bottom compression type rubber weatherstrip on the bottom of the door - actually work a lot better than the face-mounted ones anyway, in my opinion. Look like this from M-D Building Products and Frost King among others. Can also be used nailed to frame to flap contacts door face as an edge and top weatherstrip -

Maintanence is going to vary by how much you use the door.  If it is used multiple times a day as cars go in and out I recommend having it checked annually.  You want someone to lube all of the proper points and inspect the rollers for wear or damage.  You don't want a component of that door failing and falling on yourself or a child.  Sometimes tracks need to be adjusted or realigned for various reasons.  Also, the springs can weaken and break causing the door to fall.  Have those checked as well.

Garage Door Installation reviews in Ashland

I would recommend this service. I'm not positive of the name as the big deal says
Ashland Garage Door Companies Provider Name Locked
and my invoice says Lynoka
Ashland Garage Door Companies Provider Name Locked
Service. We did play a couple of days of phone tag, but that is the norm now.
Ashland Garage Door Companies Provider Name Locked
came out promptly for the appointment and told me what he was going to do. The big deal covered a tune up for one door but he did both. He then showed the items that needed repair. This was not a surprise bc a wire had broken and we had repaired it ourselves. I hadn't realized how much noise the door was making until the maintenance was finished. What a difference.
The deal was $29 for one, but he did both. The replacement of springs, rollers etc was $220 with a 5 yr warranty. I think it was a fair price for materials and 1 hr labor for 2 people. He showed me how to lubricate/maintain it as well.
6 weeks later and everything still works and sounds great.

When I first saw
Ashland Garage Door Companies Provider Name Locked
tune-up special" advertised on Angie's List, I must admit I was half thinking that somehow there had to be a catch. My garage door had been opening and closing with what I thought to be excessive vibration and I wondered, would he actually do any work to fix my door for that price?
Ashland Garage Door Companies Provider Name Locked
showed up right on time and was very professional. He looked at the operation of my door, pointing out that the problem seemed to be the result of the opener and the springs working against each other. He advised some adjustments to resolve the tension and I gave him the go-ahead to perform them.
He adjusted the springs, pivot points, force settings, and the travel limit, taking his time at each step to make sure that they were producing the desired results. When he was finished, the door was operating with noticeable improvement. When he told me how much I owed him, I pleased to discover that all the work he had done had been included in the $39 special price.
I would wholeheartedly recommend
Ashland Garage Door Companies Provider Name Locked
and his company to anyone needing garage door services. He appears to be very knowledgeable and competent as well as being a man of integrity. I definitely plan on calling him in the future whenever my door needs service and would give him first consideration on a replacement door when that time comes.
- Paul B.

I should have asked "what does a garage door tune up entail?" I assumed it included lubing the rollers/chain, aligning the safety lights and other misc stuff. Instead it included nothing except his recommendation that I either rebuild our replace the door opener unit. He came and left within 10 minutes. I did the tune up myself. The door works fine. What a mistake on my part hiring these guys.

Serviice was excellent. They gave,me a window of (9 AM-11 AM). Service man arrived at 10:30. Installed the new rubber strip within 20 minutes. When I called
Ashland Garage Door Companies Provider Name Locked
too get an estimate, they were the only company that gave me a firm price. Three other companies quoted prices in the $185-$225 range. I found
Ashland Garage Door Companies Provider Name Locked
in the local phone book. Will definirtely use them for all future Garage door service. Note:
Ashland Garage Door Companies Provider Name Locked
Company has been in business since 1939.
- Frank C.

I called and the rep was able to come by that day to look at the garage. They gave me an estimate and showed up earlier than the appointment time. They were done before I realized it. He was courteous and professional. I'd definitely refer business and utilize them in the future.
- Andre L.

One of our garage door springs broke. I called three different service providers on Angie's LIst. Two of the three responded quickly with quotes. I choose Door Doctors because they offered a lower price than the other company and they were very straight forward with their price. (The other company said you could use their Angie's List coupon but then they would raise the initial price so the coupon basically did nothing. Seemed a little shaded to me.)
I spoke with a representative from
Ashland Garage Door Companies Provider Name Locked
around 9:30am and he told me they could come out the same day between 12 and 3pm. At 2:40pm their serviceman,
Ashland Garage Door Companies Provider Name Locked
arrived. He was very polite and told me everything he was going to do. He replaced the springs with longer springs and tuned the door to make sure it was running smoothly. He checked over the entire system to make sure it was running really well. I could tell that he really took pride in his work. He was done in less than an hour. I was very happy with the job that
Ashland Garage Door Companies Provider Name Locked
did. I would highly recommend this company.

This is exactly the kind of business I like to support--family-owned and local. But my interaction with them was a mess from the start. They didn't show up for their first appointment and didn't call to let me know why. When I chased them down, I was told that they had "a guy call in sick" and that they would need to reschedule. It happens. When they did show up on another day (to their credit, on time and in a very friendly and apologetic manner), they mis-assessed the job to such a degree that when they went to install the new
Ashland Garage Door Companies Provider Name Locked
opener I needed, they discovered that they couldn't complete the work because of wiring problems that they were unable to fix due to the fact that they are not electricians. Instead of calling me when they discovered this issue during the installation and asking me what I wanted to do, they installed the new unit but left the wires connecting it to the electrical supply hanging from the ceiling of the garage. When they called to collect payment, they let me know that I'd need to either hire a separate electrician or "rig up an extension cord." Needless to say, I never would have hired them in the first place if I'd known that they wouldn't be able to complete the job. One can't help but think they knew this, and acted accordingly.
I feel cheated by the whole process, but in this matter I blame myself. I trusted this family-owned, local business to do the work when I was not present, and now I'm paying for my mistake, The reason I'm writing this review is to report on the conversation that came after the installation. When I expressed surprise that the issue was not discovered when they initially assessed the unit, and let them know that I'd felt their business practices were ultimately not honest, the response I received was, and I quote, "Are you going to pay me or not?" When I said that my Angie's list review was going to reflect my experiences with them, the response I received was, and I quote, "Normally, what I would do in a situation like this is offer to help you hook up an extension cord to the unit and staple it down so that it looked neat. But because you're going to give me a bad review, I'm not going to waste my time with you." I reminded him that a vendor with a true focus on customer service would have made this offer in their first phone call. The response? "Are you going to pay me, or not?"
So the question I'd pose to you, fellow Angie's List subscriber, is, "Are you going to hire them, or not?"
