"I had originally gotten a few estimates for hardwood floor installation throughout the main floor of my condo about a year earlier. Prestige's price was right" in line with the other estimates I received. Finally, I was ready to move forward with the job, so I contacted the 'top 2' companies that I had estimates from. Prestige got back to me right away (the other company did not), and they were able to get an updated estimate to me promptly. I decided to hire them, and they were able to schedule the job soon after. The hardwood was delivered on schedule, and the installers showed up a few days later to start the job. It turned out that there was an issue with the wood (this was prefinished maple), where in some spots one piece would not be quite lining up level with the piece next to it. This was not Prestige's fault at all, it was a problem with the wood itself. I was very thankful that they made me aware of this immediately, and did not just finish the installation without telling me. It really shows that they are an honest company and want the customer to be completely satisfied. The owner himself came out to my home to check out the situation and discuss my options. Someone else might not have thought this was a problem, but I felt it was noticeable enough that we should not continue installing this wood. They suggested that I could have unfinished maple installed instead of prefinished, and then have it sanded and finished on site. This sounded like a good idea to me, so we rescheduled to have the old wood removed and new unfinished wood delivered. A few days after the new wood was delivered, the installers came out to start the job. Everything went smoothly from start to finish. The installers did a great job. I was not home while they did the majority of the work, and they respected my home completely. The dustless sanding really was dustless. I did not see any dust anywhere after they were finished. They put 2 coats of finish on the floor, and the final result is really beautiful. I also want to mention the great job they did installing all of the baseboard trim. This was not a
square room. It is an open floor plan with lots of inner and outer corners to go around, and a couple closets. All the trim lines up great and really makes my condo look nice. I was really surprised how quickly they were able to finish the whole job and still do such a quality job. I would absolutely highly recommend Prestige to anyone looking to have hardwood flooring installed.

"The crew was exceptionally courteous, and even helped my wife pick out the stain color. Their price was very competitive. We were very happy with the entire process." We were in the midst of a kitchen renovation, and they worked with us to ensure the schedules matched up, and came back after installation of cabinets for the final seal coat.

Hardwood Flooring

There are few home improvement choices that add as much character and warmth — not to mention resale value — as hardwood flooring. But before hiring a flooring contractor to install or repair hardwood flooring, it’s important to know both its advantages and disadvantages.

From the wall street journal online:

"Etiquette and tipping experts agree that tipping a contractor and his employees isn't expected because contractors offer to do a job for you at a specific price. Any extra money they would want would be built into their bid. Also, it's a business relationship rather than one where they are performing a personal service for you like a waiter or a maid. But if the employees do extra jobs around the house, then experts say it is appropriate to tip a cash amount equivalent to the task; "tip gifts" such as cookies and drinks can count. "The key to tipping is whether or not it was outside the scope of what was normally expected," says Mark Brenner, author of "Tipping for Success!"

My opinion is that a little bit of courtesy (snacks, drinks, expression of appreciation etc.) goes a long way and upon completion of their work you feel compelled by a job well done to offer a little extra in the form of a tip - go for it, but do not feel obligated.
Agreed.  If you have existing cracking in porcelain you need to know the cause first.  I don't know of any reputable contractor that would dare install tile over existing tile.  Also, any manufacturer warranties for defects would be null due to improper installation.  Did the contractor offer this solution or did you ask for it?  The mear fact that he is agreeing to or offering it tells me you need to leave this guy for someone who knows what they are talking about before he does only half the job which will have to be redone in the near future, costing you more in the long run.

I get so many calls from customers that were talked into a "cheaper" way to do something only to find the work very sub-par.  The sad part is they are out the money they spent in the first place along with the additional amount I have to charge just to undo what the first contractor did before I can do it right.  This floor could end up costing you double what it should if it's not done right.

came tomy home about 6 weeks ago to give an estimate. We set a date to have the work done. However, I had to change the date because we were not ready to have the floors done at that time. He was very flexible and worked within my time frame. My floors were the original 1950's oak floors and were in very bad shape. He assured me that they would be fine. And were they ever fine - the work was done beautifully and I am sure the floors are better than they were originally. A great job done and they were wonderful to work with. I woiuld strongly recommend

The Owner himself came on time for estimate. Work performed soon thereafter. Workers were very clean and process produced very little dust. Had small problem mainly due to weather that was fixed the next day. Overall happy with the job and would use again.

was great, did everything he promised, explained things clearly, always on time, and the end result looks fantastic.
He encouraged us to go in and inspect at each phase and was asking to feedback. For example there were some boards that turned out to be a different color, and at our request he tinted the final coat to make them match, plus he left us a little touch up pot of the final coat so I can do repairs in future.

I checked out the flooring contractors. I liked this guy because he did the work himself and didn't use subs. He answered my inquiry promptly. and was able to work around my schedule to meet as I am working out of state and only in Minnesota once per month. His pricing was fair. He estimated 5 days to do the job and was done when he said he would be. As there was no one living in the house at the time I felt comfortable giving him a key. Most of the time my daughter was there painting as he worked. She felt comfortable being alone in the house with him and said he was cordial and professional the entire time. The house was my mother who passed away just before Thanksgiving. It was 50 years old and the hardwood floors were original. There were some stains and rust spots on the carpet. He said he thought he could get the stains out, I was doubtful. Well, he did The floor turned out to be just as nice as it was new when we moved into the house in 1965, perhaps even nicer because of the newer type finishes now on the

I manage hotel renovations for a living, hence my not being in the state except for one weekend a month. I know good work when I see it and this was good work. I would not hesitate to use him on any future job of this type.

There was a mix-up in what services would be performed. I told provider that I would remove all furniture from two of three bedrooms and when these floors were complete, I would put the furniture back and the 3rd room could be completed. I needed to save the approximate extra $400 for this service.
My sales rep agreed. After the first 2 rooms were completed and I was told that the workmen could not come back until the following Monday. I called the company and the manager made arrangements for a crew to come out on that Saturday to complete the work.
I am pretty sure that I did not get 2 coats of polyurethane because the workers on both days were in and out within hours and we were told we could walk on the floors in less than 24 hours. I choose the water-based instead of oil.
The floors look nice and for the price, I am happy.

was recommended to me via word of mouth and I couldn't be more pleased. He was VERY punctual each and every day, explained the process thoroughly and worked within my timeline.

The job ended up costing 50% more than the original quote. Yes, I did select an upgrade, but 50% is still a huge difference.
The team they sent to do the work was new to their company and made some severe mistakes. There was definitely not enough supervision. At one point, one of the workers took off on vacation out of the country while another went out of state. I was left with my kitchen torn up and many, many days without any work being done.
The list of mistakes made is rather long, here are some highlights:
-a cabinet hung without being anchored to the wall properly, the same with the microwave, which almost fell.
-the flooring not finished under the appliances
-my brand new oven dented
-one of the carpets cut in the wrong spot so that the seam where they tried to fix it was very obvious
-ceiling lights installed in the wrong spot
-multiple delays with misleading communication ("the electrician will be there today" was repeated many times without happening
-the cabinets were hung wrong, so that they had to be taken down and re-mounted TWICE
-Numerous, random holes drilled into the back of the cupboards
-Bad paint job, grouting smeared across new counter top that had to be scraped off with a razor blade.
-Paint sprayed across the new flooring in multiple spots
-Electrical outlets placed in ineffective positions
-Wasted space in the cupboard layout
The company did state multiple times that they wanted us to be happy and would fix the problems (the original crew was apparently fired after the mistakes became known). However, once repairs started, it was apparent they weren't going to follow through on this. The person in charge of scheduling the fixes was not helpful and argued over most the needed repairs. This dragged on for weeks with little communication and in some instances, the repairs made new problems (The new floor tile got scratched in 3 spots where they tried to get the paint off)
So, overall I spent quite a bit on a job that has been patched, but does not look as good as if it had been done right the first time.

Riddle who is the owner of the company, also known as Riddle Wide Plank Floors, was eager for us to sign a contract in early 2014 for our new home. We are relocating our family of 5 from NJ to Florida and he had 10 months to prepare. He missed every deadline leading up to the job and once the job started he would show up randomly, mostly in the late afternoon for a few hours and never made progress. He kept lying to us showing us pictures, videos and updates and asking for payments for materials and work that was not done. He received 90% of our money totaling over $65,000. He then added an additional fee to the wood floor job due to the floors not being prepped properly. We have in writing from

telling us not to have the floors prepped with plywood and yet he refused to work without the extra money to purchase plywood. He didn't even complete half of the installation of the floors and what he did complete is not a color match to our approved sample and needs to be redone. He continued to make up excuses and lying to us and has walked out of our job taking materials and all his tools to complete the job. We have delayed our move 3 times due to his

. After threatening to call the police for stealing, he sends an email during our moving week stating he needs a week off due to a crazy few months. We now have to hire a new contractor to rip out his work and finish the job. He left us with unsafe stairs with movers and three little kids coming this week. He has no remorse and will not give us the materials we paid for to complete the job or any money back. Beware of this company. We have spoken to others in the business who know him and they have all had similar experiences.
