"The decision to remove the previous vapor
and replace it was the right one - eliminating any items where the odor causing chemical remained." They removed all the fiberglass insulation which should have been removed by the previous provider. They sprayed again for mold on all exposed wood, installed R board insulation on the walls and re-installed a new vapor
. Two humidex were also installed to increase air flow, removed humidity. An additional project was also included to waterproof one of the basement walls which had begun to leak. The ARW team was very professional, arriving on time and sharing updates on their work. They were also a very pleasant group of guys who really worked well together and were always positive about what they were doing. The contrast between the two providers is overwhelming. I would adamantly recommend ARW over any other provider you might be considering, even if they might be shown as an "A" List provider and they say they offer a lifetime warranty. What good is the warranty if they do not honor it?

"Terrible experience; confusing more than anything else. They had been persistent the last couple of years after an initial meeting where we were not ready to make" a move. Late 2014 we had a couple of meetings and they became very aggressive with the sales process, coming back to our house 2 more times. We agreed upon a significant project to be done, and then we never heard from them. I followed up 2 separate times by email; the 2nd time after which I received an email back saying someone would contact me that day. Never happened. Very strange, but also very unprofessional.

It’s easy to do, but forgetting your crawl space can have plenty of negative consequences for the rest of your home from poor air quality to high energy bills.

If your basement floods, two critical questions need quick answers. First, where did the water come from. and second, how much will the basement flooding cost to fix? Here's what you need to know.

Angie's Answers

Mold in a basement is a common problem. My company helps people with this every day. Some of the answers you received were helpful but not all the information is correct. First, you need to eliminate the two main ingrediants that mold needs to survive. The first one is water intrusion. This is a must. I am assuming you have no water intrusion as you make no mention. The second componant that needs to be eliminated is moisture. Moisture is also humidity. Basements need to be kept airtight in the summer months. Some folks have posted that you need air flow in your basement. Nothing could be furthur from the truth. When you open any windows for example, not one micron of air goes out of the basement, Warm humid air is sucked into the basement. Houses suck air into the basement and it meets the cool surfaces and skyrockets humidity. The windows must be kept closed and a dehumidification device installed to ensure humidity stays below 60% humidity. The dehumidifier should be energy star rated and purchasing a seperate humidity guage is a must to monitor the unit's progress. We like to keep our customer's basements at 50% humidity. This eliminates the smell that is active mold spore growth. Once the water and humidity is brought under control. Remove the organic materials that have mold on them. Walls, sheetrock and studs that have been affected. Follow the advice of previous posts as you must ensure that you do not affect the rest of the home. Once removed, install new walls using as much inorganic material as possible. We also install vapor barrier over the walls and seal the floors to stopwater vapor transmission into the basement. Poly plastic is not a acceptable vapor barrier. It is not "zero-perm" and will still allow moisture transmission. It will also crack and break into pieces over the years. A PVC liner rated "zero-perm" is the correct product in this application. Depending how large the basement is and if it is sectioned off will determine the dehumidifier strength. We use the Santa Fe line of dehidifiers as they are super energy efficiant and work like a dehumidifier on steriods. I hope this helps and I wish you the best in Basement Health!

Where is the home located, what is the exterior wall construction and type, how is the space heated?

It could be a whole host of different scenarios that would generate that result.  It is nearly impossible to tell but I would say that most basement moisture problems are a result of bulk moisture intrusion or condensation issues.

Given the deep and hard winter this year, it could be a condensation issue that hadn't previously been shown.

went from disgusting to pristine! For years, we have dreaded having to go down there, but now, it is a clean, dust and dirt free space that can now be used for storage. I was very impressed by the amount of work that was done- after removing old insulation and debris,
Rensselaer Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his team used small shovels and buckets to level the uneven ground. I also really appreciated the fact that when we call

Found water in our basement and based on Angie's list reviews called Action Waterproofing. We were given a very thorough presentation of why there was water and a plan to put in a perimeter drain and sump pump for $7000+. We were told the water had penetrated the entire finished part of the basement and we would need to rip out drywall and carpet, get our water heater moved, drill holes in each of the foundation cinderblocks, etc. We also got a very hard sell about financing. It all sounded plausible, but we wanted to get other estimates.
Called another company which came out the next day and discovered it was a faulty furnace connection that dumping water all over the floor, and were given some tips about landscape grading which would help as well. When I asked about the rusty carpet tacks (which was the supposed red flag), it was explained that the strips themselves were not rotted which would have been the telltale sign of actual water seepage. We were told to keep an eye out on it and if we decided to have the basement waterproofed later that would be an option but it was not necessary now.
Action Waterproofing did schedule the appointment promptly and the guy did show up on time--so at least that's something. Did NOT appreciate the hard sell or being talked down to since we are first time house owners.

are HONEST! I had water in the unfinished utility space of our new home. I called another company first and the rep said we had major issues and would need a full perimeter drain and sump pump installed--for $8000. My father recommended

and said he wouldn't try to push us to get work done that we didn't need.

came by to give me an estimate and it turns out it was a leaking connection with our furnace--not a waterproofing issue.
Rensselaer Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
also gave us some advice about how to help with basement moisture by having some landcaping/grading changes and extending some of our gutter downspouts. It was a huge relief to find out that he took the time to actually try and diagnose what the problem was. If I could give an A++ I would!

We were contacted by
Rensselaer Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
, who came and did a free inspection of the crawlspace and confirmed that there was evidence of moisture infiltration. He took humidity readings of the air and different points in the wood beams and also showed us areas of "efflorescence" where water had seeped through the cinder-block walls and left behind salt deposits. He recommended installing an underground drain around the perimeter of the crawlspace to channel water out of the area before it could sit and cause humidity problems as well as a new vapor
Rensselaer Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
since the old one was so torn up. He also recommended installing underground drainage from all of the gutters to move that water away from the foundation, as well. He actually provided us with 3 different options that we could choose from depending on how much money we wanted to spend, all the way from just the vapor

to a fully encapsulated and conditioned crawlspace.
The crew was actually able to come out a few days earlier than scheduled and finished the job in 2 days. They even took care of repairing some irrigation pipe that was broken by their ditch-witch (because I didn't know where it was located being the new owner of the home), even though they weren't obligated to do so. After all the digging was done, they regraded the area and seeded with quality seed which quickly grew back.
Rensselaer Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
came by for the final inspection and even provided a free Hygrometer so that we could monitor the humidity. Overall, we were very pleased with the work done and will definitely use

in the future for some other yard drainage that we need to do.

called ahead and arrived early for the appointment, which was better for my schedule. He listened to my concerns--ensuring I don't have water problems when I finish my basement--and basically said I shouldn't have a problem given my current system. He also discussed sump pump alternatives. I concluded that I don't need work done now, but based on
Rensselaer Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
's honesty and professionalism I will call AA Action Waterproofing when I do need work done.
- Anna H.

They did a great job and were a wonderful company to work with. They had different teams for all the different jobs required to complete the work. It took them three days to complete everything and they worked very hard and efficiently. They were all very pleasant, thorough and clean. The quality was well worth the price and I found it to be fair compared to other estimates. I would definitely work with them again and highly recommend them.
- Joleen N.

Told me nothing was broken and how to simply fix the problem myself. He didn't charge for his time. He was an honest guy.

How'd it go? We want all the details.

We have had problems with our basement leaking for many
years. A few years ago we had two estimates to see what it would cost
and we were floored with the prices. Needless to say we didn't get the
work done and decided to live with it. The water problem not only got
worse, but the cracks in the walls also seemed to get bigger. We knew
we had to do something.

After calling four companies to come out and assess the
problem, we had a good idea what we were in for with price. Each
company had their own ideas and solutions. We chose to use Family
Waterproofing Solutions.
Rensselaer Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
, the owner, came out right away and by far
created the best experience for us out of the group. Not only did he
spend the time to teach us about our issues, he was the only one that
genuinely seemed to know what he was talking about, (I work in
maintenance/construction). He was the only one that looked on the
outside of the house and he even water tested our foundation to recreate
the problems. His price was also in line with the other companies, so
the choice was easy.

On the days of the work,
Rensselaer Waterproofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
's crew showed up on time and
were very professional. The work was very labor intensive and we were
shocked with the final product. We have since had some weather and we
also ran the hose in our worst spot...still bone dry. We would highly
