"They showed up on time and were courteous and professional. After the gutters were cleaned, they picked up the leaves and debris around the house and left it very" neat. Overall great job and I would definitely hire them again.

"The work was excellent and done within one week. After removing old window trim they found some rot in two window sills. "Country" quoted the overage" on the spot, I accepted and in an hour or so they had removed those windows, replaced the sills, reinstalled the windows, and trimmed them. I highly recommend this company.

Wow, i aum surprised you didn't get 10 answers already with roofers say X was the best or N was the best or A was the best. In reality you are focusing on the WRONG THING!

5 estimates? Why 5? Why would you do that to yourself? Normally if you are dealing with reputable companies you don't need more than 2 estimates. I advocate to people to always get at least two estimates and if the roofers are saying something very different or if the roofers are way way way off in price, get an equalizer, get a 3rd.  Obviously if you don't trust a roofer disqualify that roofer immediately.  I beliee you have now fallen into "Analysis Paralysis" which is what happens when you have too many opions.

But back to the topic, I said you are focusing on the wrong thing. Why did I say that? Because you can take the best shingle in the world and if installed wrong is compeltely garbage. i can take the worst shingle, known to fail, and if installed properly will last some ammount of time. So you should focus on the roofer, not the product. The roofer is more important and a good quality roofer will only want to install good quality product.

The roof is a system comprised of many components, not just the shingles. You have the water proofing underlayment such as ice shield, the water resistant underlayments such as felt. You have the shingles, the ventilation and the flashing details. All of these things add up to equal one roof. Neglect one and your roof is doomed to fail.

But the roof is more than just product it is detail, know how and heart. Heart? yes heart. It takes the utmost CARING the utmost DESIRE to want to install a good roof. It's hard work and easy to fall into the train of thought as to do what's easier, instead of what's faster.  Faster and easier seldom ever equals better. At the end of the day you ened a roofer that cares about your roof.

So what product is best? That's hard to say. Each manufacturer has multiple plants and it seems each plant puts out varying levels of quality. I will tell you in my area Atlast is known as a cheap commodity shingle. I have Tamko Heritage on my house but I stopped using it because I was having seal failue issues and at the time they offered no contractor certification program, but I hear they started up one. Ownes corning is a decent product backed by a great company. I don't install very many OC's though. I primarily install CertainTeed Landmark shingles and my feeling is that they are the best on the market in my area. I'm sure others will disagree with me.

But don't miss the point, the roofer is more important than the shingle.

I appreciate the fact that with homeowners like you who want to beat the insurance co out of deductibles, so then my rates and every other homeowners rates can also go up just to save you.....Thanks for NOTHING..[8o|]

Any roofer worth using should be able to do the roof with NO MONEY DOWN.

The only scenario I would ask for a deposit is on a crazy odd ball shingle that had to be special ordered.

?
The question was, Can it be done? The answer is yes. The real question is "Should" it be done? The answer is, no, not unless it is an emergency.   But also let's clarify winter, because we are having a pretty mild winter, so there's kinda not a problem this year so far. I'll refrence "below freezing" from this point forward.

As a certified and licensed roofing contractor, my reputation is on the line. I debate this topic quite often with other roofing contractors who seem to care more about profit than a job well done.  Well, I can tell you from past experience having been a professional roofer for 14 years as of the time of this posting, that the chance for failure increases exponentionally when installed below freezing.  It's better just not to risk it.

Personally I will not, unless absolutely necessary and the customer signs a disclaimer of limited liability, install a roof below freezing and really really want to install the roof at 40 or above. The shingles need to seal, and will not seal unless they warm to about 70 degrees F ambient temprature. This does not mean it needs to be 70 outside, because the shingles will warm from the sun.

So what can be done to install the roof below freezing? Well first, the roof should not be gun nailed below freezing. This is because the shingles become brittle and it's easier to "blow through" with your nails. It's also harder to regulate air pressure when it is cold, I speculate because of barometric pressures, but I am just guessing.  Therefore the roof should be hand nailed. This takes more time. Furthermore since the seal strips will not seal, they must be manually sealed with proper compatible adhesives. This will also take more time, and more material. I once spoke with a roofer in Alaska who builds tents around the houses he is working on and covers them with tarps and heats with propane heaters.  Now that takes real time!    The question is, are you prepared to pay for this extra time? Can you wait a few more weeks?

At the first stages of the process,
North Hudson Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
(owner) was very responsive to calls and responded quickly to an estimate. I decided to go with this company based on the Angie's List reviews and his estimate. He notified me that there was a cancellation for a project creating some availability in early August.
What follows is a narration of events.
8/3: I left a message with him to call me back for an update on the approximate time he would start the project. His voicemail message did state that because of the of weather conditions, they would be delayed in returning calls. I did not receive a response on that date.
8/4: I left another message at 480-446-7663 requesting a call back for an update for an approximate time he would start the roof repair/replacement.
8/5: I received a phone call and the person confirmed the project would start on 8/17.
8/12: I received a call from someone at my house that there were people dropping off roof material. I didn't know anything about this visit. I contacted Spencer4Hire and received a follow-up phone call about two hours later. The gentleman stated he had left a message for me advising that the material would be dropped off. I advised I did not recall any message but asked if we were on scheduled to begin work on 8/17. He stated we were and he would contact me either 8/14 or 8/15.
8/16: I received a call advising that they would be at the home between 5 and 6 on 8/17.
8/17 (day 1 of the actual work): I waited around until 6AM. I had to leave for work. I did not receive any call about being late.
8/17-8/22: They parked a container of some sort in the driveway to store discarded items which took up half the driveway blocking an entry to the garage. Although I realize they needed it, it would have been helpful to know it was going to be there so I could coordinate car needs accordingly in the two car household.
8/24:
North Hudson Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
had visited the home in the morning, I assume, to check the work. I received a call from him stating that he would come and pick up a satellite dish the roofers removed from one of the surfaces. That was a nice surprise to take care of that for me. He also wanted the last half of the payment. After the phone call, I discovered, that there were some areas left gray on the roof that should have been painted red (the areas where the planes of the roof connected). I believe those areas are called "mortar balls." I called
North Hudson Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
back and he stated he would have someone come to paint those areas on 8/25. He stated he would meet me at 5PM, on 8/24, to collect the payment. He arrived sometime around 5:30PM. He stated he would return on 8/25 at 6AM to repaint the mortar balls to match the style of the rest of the neighborhood.
8/25: I returned home from work at 5:15PM and see that the mortar balls aren't painted. I called
North Hudson Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
.
North Hudson Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
stated he didn't start the painting for fear of the rain causing problems to the process. He stated he would return some time during 8/26/15 to finish the job. It did end up storming that evening.
8/26: Everything was painted as agreed.
Overall, the quality of the work seems fine. And, they completed the project on time as they agreed. Ideally, I wouldn't have had to make as many phone calls as I did to understand the process and follow-up on some of the quality issues. It would be helpful if, when the work actually starts, someone explain what will happen to help manage expectations.

The rep was very professional and took lots of photos to help me decide how to move forward with repairs. The rep seemed very knowledgable about roofs and gave lots of tips on how to maintain the roof. He also gave suggestions on what to look for and how to spot a poor roof job. He was not pushy, instead very informative. He gave many suggestions and helped me make a smart choice.

These guys were very polite, professional, and got on the job within days of my call. They sealed my skylights as I asked. The only problem is that the one skylight that was leaking still leaked afterward. I went up there and re-did the job myself recently. They did what I asked them to do and they did it the right way. I just put another coat of tar and silicone over the ones they did and I'm hoping for the best.

I can't say enough good things about
North Hudson Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his crew. He's replaced a roof, torn down and replaced a deck, and replaced my back stairs. His work is excellent. He always shows up when he says he will; he's professional, he has excellent communication, and his prices are extremely fair. He went above and beyond what he said he would do, in order to do it right. When other people wouldn't even look at my roof for months, he was there and working within two weeks! He even scheduled my deck for another time to get to other roofs, essentially foregoing more money because he was right there and it would have been easy, to work on others' roofs because they had leaks and he felt it was the morally right thing to do. With all the sketchy contractors out there, he was refreshing to deal with.

We were given a window of time that
North Hudson Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
would be out to work on both of our projects. They arrived on time and finished the roof project in about 2 weeks and the gutters/soffit/fascia project in about a week. The roof was replaced in the spring and there were some inevitable delays due to the weather. Our gutters, soffit and fascia were replaced in the summer during an unusually rainy week but nonetheless, the project finished on time.
North Hudson Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
did a wonderful job explaining all of the different products that
North Hudson Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
sold and the pros and cons of each. He was on top of both projects from start to finish. His workers were very well-versed in their work and very professional. Anything we asked them to do or to move for us they did within minutes. During the tail-end of the gutter project, I told one of the workers that I was a bit disappointed because I was planning on having a meeting at our house on the following Monday and they didn't expect to finish the job until Tuesday or Wednesday. That conversation took place on a Thursday and the next morning, the crew had almost doubled and they told me that they would be back on Saturday to finish our job so I could have my meeting on Monday without a problem! They went above and beyond for us and we were really appreciative of their efforts! I would highly recommend
North Hudson Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
to all of my neighbors and friends!

Asked for an estimate for repair of leaking roof. Came and was very professional. Looked over roof, had recommendations. Also had complete materials to repair the roof. Plus did extra work while on the roof like clean gutters and downspouts. Was so pleased gave him an extra $50.00 for preparedness and for the extra work.

During the past three 3 years four (4) shingles fell from one section of my roof. I replaced two of them myself,
North Hudson Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
replaced another one about two years ago. In June 2015 another shingle became displaced and slid half way down my roof. It was in too precarious of a place for me to fix.
I called
North Hudson Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
a total of eight (8) times in a four-week period and asked them to replace this shingle. Each time the
gentleman on the phone said someone would be right out to fix it; twice he said he was coming out himself, once saying he would be at my home in 30 minutes. No one ever showed up! Now I must pay another company to fix this continued problem.

He ended up re-roofing a large section of the roof that I had not realized was damaged. He did an excellent job and was very conscientious and reliable. I will definitely use him again.
