" Meridian operated with pure professionalism throughout the process. They listened to our ideas/goals and helped us shape them into a workable design. Their" background and knowledge in kitchen projects really helped us think through many items that might not have been realized until we were already in construction mode. I think this helped us immensely in the actual construction phase because things went "nearly" as planned.

?

This part of Don's answer follows my thoughts exactly:

"You want to deal with a professional person that is selling you a bath that was not working as a cashier a few months ago."

Do you go to the gracery store and ask for someone to cook your steak?  Of course not.  So why would you go to a building supply store and ask for someone to remodel your bathroom?  Rarely will you see a legitimate contractor take jobs from a retailer.  Why?  Because they don't pay much.  Speed is the most important thing to them, along with getting it done cheap so they can maximize profit.  About 10 years ago I worked on a few contracted structures (sheds, garages, etc.) from Home Depot.  They contracted to another company who then contracted people to build them.  At that time they paid a flat $250 for a contractor to pick up the supplies, build the structure on site, paint it, and use their own tools.  By the time the cost of a helper, fuel, tools, etc. was factored in there was nothing left for the contractor.  Anyway, the point I'm making is that the guy who will eventually show up to do the work will be so far down the line that everyone else has already taken the profits (Home Depot, ReBath, possibly someone else, and finally the guy working) that he probably isn't going to care what kind of job he does for you, quality or not.  He likely won't have much experience due to a high turnover rate and any experience he does have will probably be limited to his teachings at that job.  He probably can't answer any building code questions or identify other hazards once things are taken apart and he certainly won't do anything he doesn't have to while it is apart.

Another problem I've heard of repeatedly is that if (when) there is a problem there is always someone else you need to speak to.  You might have to talk to 4 or 5 different people before you can even get to someone that can address the problem.  Now multiply that due to having (at least) two separate companies involoved.  "You need to call ReBath."  "No, you need to call Home Depot."

You hire a general contractor for a reason.  We learn, understand, and keep up on building codes.  We are the one point of contact for all questions and issues on a project.  There is no manager in some other store, state, etc. to call.  You contract a GC and deal directly with that GC, or a site supervisor in some cases.  There isn't a huge chain of command to get through to reach the main decision maker for the business.  In a bathroom remodel you need someone who can do the plumbing, repair and/or move any electrical, install tile/flooring, drywall and paint, trim carpentry, and someone to coordinate all of that.  Sometimes you can find a qualified contractor to do all of those things and sometimes he will sub-contract out certain components (especially due to licensing laws) but you will always have that one definitive person to go to for any questions or issues.  A salesman in a store doesn't visit your home throughout the project to check on the status.  Even if he did, he likely wouldn't now what he is looking at.  The same goes for a retail manager.

Hire someone who specializes in taking care of your home.  Hire based on reputation & knowledge/experience.  You are right that not every customer can be happy so an occassional bad review can be found on just about any business.  Read the reviews, not the grades (they are always biased).  Look to see if the contractor attempted to rectify the problem, not ignore it.  Lastly, unless you want cheap, sloppy work and a whole heap of other troubles, don't hire based on a low price.

Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
?
What I always ask my customers regarding this question when remodeling bathrooms is how good they will be about maintaining and cleaning the new bathroom, especially when the old bathroom is obviously neglected.  If you are one of those people who wipes the glass down after a shower and cleans your bathroom every week or two you really don't need to spend the extra money.  If you are at the other end of the spectrum and clean it when it finally bothers you enough it may not be a bad investment.  I've had customer tell me they can tell a difference compared to their old glass without it and others say it made no difference at all.

Your basic rights and protections under law are probably outlined by your state and city's laws. In most states, the easiest way to look up your basic rights and privelges as a consumer would be to visit your state's attorney general website - you can usually find lots of great tips to protect yourself as a consumer there, too. Here's the National Association of Attorneys General's national listing, which includes a link to each state's attorney general website: http://www.naag.org/current-attorneys-general.php

Beyond those basic rights under the law, your expectations of a contractor during, on and after the completion of a job should be explicitly outlined in the estimate and contract. Although it can be a pain in the butt, ALWAYS read the estimate and/or contract before sign it! I cannot stress this enough - frequently the cause of someone's negative experiences with a contractor can be traced back to too few details in the contract.

We've covered contracts, and what you should expect to see in them, here: http://www.angieslist.com/contractor/signing-a-contract.htm

Good luck!

I would like to start off by saying we are extremely happy with the job
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
did in regards to installing our kitchen countertops and backsplash. The time line they laid out for us was followed 100% . Everybody showed up right on time and acted in a professional and courteous
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
. They treated our home with great care and covered everything so it would not get damaged or dirty. The communication back and forth was exceptional. We had made a small mistake when designing the backsplash but they corrected it for us and made it right. We plan on using them again in the future as other projects arise and would highly recommend them to anybody. ????

From the beginning I was not

what I exactly wanted, when I first met with
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
she made me feel sure that we would find what exactly suited our lifestyle and home.
All the cabinets were taken out along with the counters and all, everything was replaced with newer contemporary cabinets and a back splash that would compliment all the appliances and granite counters around the kitchen. We never had any issues with punctuality, or communication.
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
made sure that we were well informed about all the work that was being done.
Overall from beginning to end it was a very smooth process and we are very please with our new kitchen.

Project 1: 7'x84' dig out debree from West side of house, spray weed
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
, place landscape fabric and 5/8 minus gravel, compact. --- While completing this project, he broke several pieces of siding on our house. When we first talked about him doing that project the one thing I was concerned about was damage to the house because he said he'd use a mini excavator and it's only 6/12 feet between the house and the fence. We just resided and painted our house last fall and I didn't want it damaged. He assured me it would not be. Then when I discovered the damage he said that it couldn't be helped. I told him that we had six siding boards left but he didn't offer to replace the ones he broke or offer to help my husband replace them. Also, he didn't compact the gravel that he laid so my husband had to rent a compacter and do it (because by the time we realized he hadn't compacted it he'd already walked off the job). Project 2: Remove sod, widen driveway remove tree, place 115'x10'x3" of 5/8 minus gravel compacted. --- He removed too much sod which resulted in 2/3 of the driveway then needing 6+ inches of gravel which meant that we had to buy $300 more gravel and the west
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
of the driveway is loose because there's no dirt left on the other side to keep it from sliding down so my husband is now going to have to shore up that side of the driveway. Project 3: Gravel entire driveway 110'x29'x3" compact place landscape border along side, 115'. --- When he first suggested placing the landscape border I was concerned because I told him I'd seen some that looked nice because they were put in carefully and were straight but that I'd seen some that were crooked and not put in flat and looked bad and he assured me that mine would be straight and flat and that is NOT how it is. And because the border is on that west
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
of the driveway where he removed too much dirt, it just wants to fall over so my husband needs to fix it. Project 4: Remove shrubs adjoining the driveway, remove railroad ties boardering the front of the house. Prepare and pour concrete porch from the front door to the fence on the West side of the house, apx. 10' x 35', including one step up to the front door landing. Contractor willbe responsible for dumping fees associated with excavation, Concrete will be poured after site is prepared and compacted with gravel and rebar. Six (6) sac concrete will be used and completed with a broom finish. The shrubs were in an area aprox. 10' x 3' and they were removed and so were the railroad ties, which didn't take long. In the patio area there were a few small stumps that they pulled out. He did somewhat level the patio site and place some gravel. But after the driveway was done and we paid him for that part of the job, he informed us that he wasn't coming back the next day to finish the patio. When asked when he'd be back, he said he didn't know. I told him that was an unacceptable answer and that he could not expect us to wait indefinitely and he then proceeded to whine about how much emotional distress we had put him through because of questions we'd asked while he was working. Actually, my husband had to SUPERVISE him and had to tell him, over and over and over, how he wanted things done, and it still didn't quite get done the way we wanted. Once, when my husband pointed out that the front of the yard he was cutting back from the street was suppose to be cut back 10' and he'd only cut it back about 7', his response was "You're really gonna hold me to that?" WHAT??? He never did cut it back to 10'. It's at 9' because he never did the finishing work with a shovel to get it cut off straight, like he said he would, so the front of the yard is all jagged and raggedy looking. So we'll have to fix that to. His last day here, before telling us he wasn't coming back to finish the patio, my husband decided to ask him some questions about the patio work to make sure he really did know what he was suppose to do because we learned after watching him work that he appeared to have knowledge of how something needed to be done and should be done but either didn't possess the professional skill to do it OR lacked the will to do it right. So, my husband asked him about whether he was going to place metal flashing against the siding so it would be between the siding and concrete and he said "no, I hadn't planned on it". My husband asked, well isn't that code? No answer. "Well we shouldn't have water run down between the siding and the cement, right", but
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
just stood there staring at him and didn't answer. Then my husband asked him how much of a slope he was going to have from the house out to make sure the water would run off away from the house and he said 1 1/2". WHAT? It should be no more than 5/8", and doesn't need to be more than that, and since it's a patio you don't want to feel the slope. Since he refused to finish the patio, my husband called him about refunding 1/2 of the 50% we paid up front because he didn't earn all the entire 50% but he won't return our calls. So after all the money we paid him, we're going to have to spend even more to shore up the west side of the driveway so it doesn't collapse, we had to rent a compactor and compact the gravel on the side of the house that he failed to do but was paid to do, and now we have to hire someone else to put in the patio because he refused to fulfill the contract and won't refund some of the money we paid him up front. Look him up on the Labor and Industries site. There's some interesting reading there. I sure wish I'd done that BEFORE hiring him.

The owner and contractor,
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
, was most helpful in the design and planning of the remodel, as well as providing recommendations for sources for plumbing and tile. He was very sensitive to my needs due to my disability, and was very helpful in ensuring that there was minimal impact on my ability to live in the house during the construction,...More /> The adjoining bedroom was carefully protected with plastic and heavy paper where construction traffic would pass. The demolition was done carefully, ensuring that dust production was minimized. They really worked to minimize the impact of construction on us, All workers were very courteous, all spoke English, and most had worked for Mr.
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
for a long time. I became concerned during the installation of windows by a subcontractor, and Mr.
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
responded very quickly and the problem was resolved. He checked progress daily or every other day during the early days of the job, and somewhat less often during the tile work.
The tile work was done by a full-time employee of
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
. He has worked for
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
for over twenty years, and is a very meticulous worker, almost overly so. I have done some tile work myself, and my experience suggests that he could have worked more efficiently and quickly than he did. I think Mr.
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
agrees with me on that point. In any event, the tile work was completed, and it is beautiful. They used a new epoxy grout that they had never used before.
As soon as the tiling was complete, the tiler, who preferred to work alone, immediately left town for a week. When we were able to closely examine the grout job, my wife was not pleased with the grouting because the grout line was so deep on the floor that she was concerned that dirt would collect in the grout line. We asked that more grout be placed in the grout line so that it would be more nearly level with the tile. I was able to work with the grout to create a grout depth that was acceptable, and was able to teach one of two workers sent out the next Monday how to successfully modify the grout line. However, the other worker was unwilling to modify “the way he had always done it” and therefore did not did not satisfy our requirements for the work to be done.
I made a quick call to Mr.
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
and this worker was moved to cleanup duty. The point to be made here is that Mr.
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
was available at all times for communication, and that he is willing to do whatever is necessary to satisfy his clients. The grout was finished to my wife’s satisfaction, and we have a beautiful, accessible bathroom with a roll-in shower. The job commenced on the day agreed upon, and there was only one day that there were no workers on the job.
I enjoyed working with
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
because he worked hard, expected the same of his employees, and expected a high quality of work from them. He was always available by phone, email, or text, and promptly returned any message. He never got excited; there was no problem that could not be solved. If you as a consumer are fortunate enough to have
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
choose you to do your remodel, you will be more than satisfied with the experience and the work they do.

I am in the middle of a major 2 month renovation. I have found
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
and his crew to be exceptional in their designs, actual work on site, punctuality and communication. All questions and concerns are addressed promptly. Suggestions are welcomed and discussed. I have made some changes as we've gone along, and they have been very accommodating. They allow as much or as little input as I want. Every member of the crew is polite and takes pride in his work.. Every vendor I've met with to make selections says the same thing: "You're working with the best." I would recommend

From the start,
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
was the most responsive of the companies I contacted for bids on my job. They weren't the cheapest, but they also weren't the most expensive.
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
came out, took extensive measurements and provided a detailed proposal within a couple weeks of my call. He gave me excellent advice, connected me with an interior designer who could help me with selections and provided recommendations for where I could explore stone, plumbing fixtures, tile, and so forth. I ended up having several rounds of changes as we got into the job and I changed my mind or some complication within the house altered what we could do--
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
's team was very good about going with the flow, giving me good ideas, and making alterations on the contract that affected the bottom line in both directions.
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
, who was the project manager on my job, was great about staying in touch and keeping to the schedule, with only a couple delays related to scheduling the painter and getting my new bathroom window installed because of a backorder. When there was a miscommunication related to a towel bar on my shower panel,
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
fixed it and took responsibility. All the subcontractors on the job were professional and courteous--and in particular, the tile guy did an amazing job in the kitchen and the electrician put in a TON of time rewiring everything.
Niagara Falls Bathroom And Kitchen Remodeling Contractors Provider Name Locked
is also a cabinet maker and the new vanity he built for my master bath is absolutely beautiful. They also sent out someone to clean up all the construction dust when it was over. I LOVE MY HOUSE now! I couldn't be happier, and in the end, I paid less than the original bid because the overall additions and subtractions on the contract gave me a credit.

I am a happy customer and will call them again for my kitchen countertops. They are there for you when the big contractors are way too busy in the season to get to you for the small jobs.
I saw their countertops done in my relatives homes, and they did a great job.
