" All of the work was completed with much attention to details. The finish products were beautiful. They often showed up to work without my knowledge. The language"
was difficult, the workers use of the English language was not fluent. However, they were excellent workers.

"
, We wanted to write you this letter to let you know how extremely happy we are with the jobs you have done on our house. The workmanship" and the extreme professionalism with which everything was done was beyond reproach. As you know, there were many other contractors working on our house at the same time, but none were as meticulous as you. You treated out house as if it were your own. We have received numerous compliments on the wraparound porch on the front of the house. No one would have taken either the time or effort you did in laying down the mahogany flooring. It is absolutely beautiful. We have given your name and number to many people who have driven by and stopped to admire it. However, the masonry work that was done was outstanding. When we knew we needed to have both existing chimneys extended by thirteen feet, we were doubtful, to say the least. We never thought the bricks would match in color or size or that the workmanship would equal what was already there. You assured us it could be done. We are constantly amazed at the precision in which it was done. One cannot tell the difference from where the old ended and the new begins, which is what is desired in an extension. Thank you for going that extra mile. As you know, we needed new walkways all around the house. You did an excellent job in pouring and smoothing the concrete. People are always amazed at the excellence of the job. We look forward to working with you again in the future and would highly recommend, and have, you and your workmanship to anyone looking for a true professional. sincerely,
and
De Robertis

Angie's Answers

?

This part of Don's answer follows my thoughts exactly:

"You want to deal with a professional person that is selling you a bath that was not working as a cashier a few months ago."

Do you go to the gracery store and ask for someone to cook your steak?  Of course not.  So why would you go to a building supply store and ask for someone to remodel your bathroom?  Rarely will you see a legitimate contractor take jobs from a retailer.  Why?  Because they don't pay much.  Speed is the most important thing to them, along with getting it done cheap so they can maximize profit.  About 10 years ago I worked on a few contracted structures (sheds, garages, etc.) from Home Depot.  They contracted to another company who then contracted people to build them.  At that time they paid a flat $250 for a contractor to pick up the supplies, build the structure on site, paint it, and use their own tools.  By the time the cost of a helper, fuel, tools, etc. was factored in there was nothing left for the contractor.  Anyway, the point I'm making is that the guy who will eventually show up to do the work will be so far down the line that everyone else has already taken the profits (Home Depot, ReBath, possibly someone else, and finally the guy working) that he probably isn't going to care what kind of job he does for you, quality or not.  He likely won't have much experience due to a high turnover rate and any experience he does have will probably be limited to his teachings at that job.  He probably can't answer any building code questions or identify other hazards once things are taken apart and he certainly won't do anything he doesn't have to while it is apart.

Another problem I've heard of repeatedly is that if (when) there is a problem there is always someone else you need to speak to.  You might have to talk to 4 or 5 different people before you can even get to someone that can address the problem.  Now multiply that due to having (at least) two separate companies involoved.  "You need to call ReBath."  "No, you need to call Home Depot."

You hire a general contractor for a reason.  We learn, understand, and keep up on building codes.  We are the one point of contact for all questions and issues on a project.  There is no manager in some other store, state, etc. to call.  You contract a GC and deal directly with that GC, or a site supervisor in some cases.  There isn't a huge chain of command to get through to reach the main decision maker for the business.  In a bathroom remodel you need someone who can do the plumbing, repair and/or move any electrical, install tile/flooring, drywall and paint, trim carpentry, and someone to coordinate all of that.  Sometimes you can find a qualified contractor to do all of those things and sometimes he will sub-contract out certain components (especially due to licensing laws) but you will always have that one definitive person to go to for any questions or issues.  A salesman in a store doesn't visit your home throughout the project to check on the status.  Even if he did, he likely wouldn't now what he is looking at.  The same goes for a retail manager.

Hire someone who specializes in taking care of your home.  Hire based on reputation & knowledge/experience.  You are right that not every customer can be happy so an occassional bad review can be found on just about any business.  Read the reviews, not the grades (they are always biased).  Look to see if the contractor attempted to rectify the problem, not ignore it.  Lastly, unless you want cheap, sloppy work and a whole heap of other troubles, don't hire based on a low price.

Hair spray is one of those things that is really bothersome.  We've run into this alot unfortunately.  And NOTHING we've found will actually clean it off.  The problem is that if you just paint over it, you still see shiny spots wherever the hairspray was.

Our companie's policy is to prime the area with any bonding primer.  This will seal the hairspray in and not let it affect the next coat of paint.  It would also be a good idea to lightly sand the area first.

Our recommendation for primer would be Zinsser's BIN Spray (red can) and can be bought at most paint stores or home improvement stores.  Other than that, any thing that specifically says "bonding" for a primer should be adequate enough.
?
What I always ask my customers regarding this question when remodeling bathrooms is how good they will be about maintaining and cleaning the new bathroom, especially when the old bathroom is obviously neglected.  If you are one of those people who wipes the glass down after a shower and cleans your bathroom every week or two you really don't need to spend the extra money.  If you are at the other end of the spectrum and clean it when it finally bothers you enough it may not be a bad investment.  I've had customer tell me they can tell a difference compared to their old glass without it and others say it made no difference at all.

Your basic rights and protections under law are probably outlined by your state and city's laws. In most states, the easiest way to look up your basic rights and privelges as a consumer would be to visit your state's attorney general website - you can usually find lots of great tips to protect yourself as a consumer there, too. Here's the National Association of Attorneys General's national listing, which includes a link to each state's attorney general website: http://www.naag.org/current-attorneys-general.php

Beyond those basic rights under the law, your expectations of a contractor during, on and after the completion of a job should be explicitly outlined in the estimate and contract. Although it can be a pain in the butt, ALWAYS read the estimate and/or contract before sign it! I cannot stress this enough - frequently the cause of someone's negative experiences with a contractor can be traced back to too few details in the contract.

We've covered contracts, and what you should expect to see in them, here: http://www.angieslist.com/contractor/signing-a-contract.htm

Good luck!

The Bathrooms went great from start to finish. Our designer came to the house and brought what felt like an entire showroom with him. He spent over four hours helping us to decide what would go best in our bathrooms. If you decide to use Alure I recommend you ask for Rich
Niagara Falls Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
, he was very patient. The work went smooth all completed in the time frame they had promised. The workmen were polite and covered all the furniture and carpets with drop cloths and plastic. I received phone updates everyday letting me know what work had been done for the day and what was going to be done the next day. two weeks after the job was complete we noticed two holes in the wall behind the couch caused by the demolition. We called them and in a few days a service man was there to fix the problems. We are now having them redo our kitchen and entry doors.

I called Porter Baker's cell phone, and he came out with an estimator about two days before Christmas. I couldn't even get through to another contractor due to the season. I had an estimate in a few days. Mr.

Enterprises explained the situation to me, so if you hire one of these companies, note which one you are dealing with so that you get the correct contact information. In any event,

ended up doing the job. While this company seems to specialize in interior renovations like kitchen installations, they certainly know what they are doing for exterior renovations. The head contractor for my job was

came out and fixed the studs and bent the garage rails back in shape so I could use my garage door the first day he came out. He came out the next day with new rails, so that I had two functioning garage doors. Much of our brick was smashed, so they had to go out to

where the bricks (now discontinued) were made so that they could try to match them. They used as much of the existing brick as they could and blended it in so as not to be too obvious. let me know if there was going to be a delay due to weather or finding the materials.

I waited two years to cool down before writing this review, because I wanted the space of time to see if I was worked up over nothing. I didn't want to just blast a company in the heat of anger. Also worth noting, I have worked with two other general contractors since, and the experiences with them caused me to continually revisit my experience with DBRG, and ultimately, to share my frustration with the way my business was handled by DBRG.
The man that DBRG placed in my family's home was a first-class gentleman. He did very good work and was a very good communicator--the website doesn't currently list this man as one of their employees (another reason why I am
Niagara Falls Kitchen And Bath Remodelers Provider Name Locked
this review now, as I would have felt bad about hurting any business opportunities for him). The problem was the man who sold us the work, clearly identifiable on their company website. In addition to making contractual promises that were quickly forgotten when it came time to bill me (100% my fault for not getting him to sign up to them in the contract), this man came up with wildly astronomical upcharges during the job that even an amateur could see through. I have had four major renovation projects done on my home, at an average of $45,000 per project. This was the only general contractor I have used that chose to insult my intelligence in this fashion. Almost two years later, I am still fuming over the manner in which I was steamrolled on certain costs. On multiple occasions, I was put in the position of having to open my wallet for things that--with the benefit of experience with other general contractors--I should not have had to pay extra. Some days, it seemed like the magnitude of the upcharge was deliberate to get me to choose a path that this salesman had predetermined was the best way for him.
As someone who has spent time in construction, I take full responsibility for my failings on the front side of this job when the contract was drawn up. The truth of the matter is that this company could have done right by me and it likely would not have cost them that much. When push came to shove, I stroked only the checks necessary to get the job done so that my family and I could move on with our lives. As a result, the finished product came out different than the one we all went in with the intention to create.
I live in a neighborhood where a lot of houses are being renovated and remodeled. I was responsible for referring over $350,000 worth of work over the last 12 months, and I made sure that DBRG was NEVER considered for any of that work.
