You get what you pay for.
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
's price was the best, and I soon found out why. We hired
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
to put down some new loam and hydro seed. We also had him install a sprinkler system in our back yard.
After hydro seeding, there were numerous areas left unseeded. I mean very large areas that were left as just dirt. I had to have him come back and put down seed in those areas by hand which he did only after I refused to pay him the balance until it was straightened out.. A year later and my lawn is still a mess. I have since spent well over $500 in loam and seed to try to get grass to grow in the bare spots, and there were plenty. Not to mention days of my labor.
Next, the sprinkler system. Well, it looks like he just laid the pipe on the ground and covered it with the new loam. He did not dig down to bury it at all. How do I know this? Because when he sent one of his workers over to aerate the lawn to try to get the bare spots to come in, they punched holes in the sprinkler lines everywhere !!! They did repair the damage, but I was not willing to have my yard dug up again to have it done correctly so it will stay as is and I just have to remember to never aerate the lawn again. He also, did not tighten a valve in the sprinkler bow which resulted in the box filling up and water backing into my basement.
Mulch beds turned out ok, but all of the mulch on my property is black and he put down red in the new areas. I am guessing it was left over from another job
Good luck trying to get him to answer his phone or call you back. And if he says he will be at your house on a certain day, don't hold your breath. Twice he was supposed to meet me and never showed and didn't even have the courtesy to call.
Lesson learned, cheaper is definitely not always better.

An estimate was done on May 6, 2014 for the needed back yard work. Once we accepted the quote, we were put on the work schedule. Work began on May 27, 2014 and was completed in one day. Work was completed by their crew and involved tilling, grade work and debris removal. Five cubic yards of a topsoil compost mix was brought in to fill in some of the areas where the backhoe and tractor tire tracks from the prior sewer work had left almost one foot deep impressions in the yard all the way from the side yard around to the back yard. At the same time a trench was dug for the plastic drain tile and drain box from the back of the house and heading out to an easement area at a lower elevation. Grass seed, fertilizer and straw were then spread over the area that had been prepared. Mother Nature took care of the rest with some nice rains over the summer, and we now have nice green grass once again where there had been mostly broken up clay soil.
Only a couple of issues occurred with the job. Both were taken care of promptly by
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
. The first minor issue was a glass tube rain gauge that was broken somehow during the yard work. I was allowed to deduct the cost of the rain gauge from the original invoice bringing the completed job down to $1139.61. The second issue was with the drain line where we found it not working properly after a heavy rain soon after the installation.
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
promptly took care of the issue by adding several more feet of drain line to reach beyond a rise in the yard making the drain exit closer to the area of the easement which was at the lower elevation. They did this at no added cost to us which we really appreciated. It has worked fine since then and have not had any more standing water close to our foundation.

Two trees are totally dead and four others are showing browning on branches. Have tried to contact
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
since April for him to honor the guarantee he wrote on my receipt. He will not call back, will not pick up certified letters and won't answer email. I'm going to
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
$117 for each tree. He promised a refund of $117 for the tree he never bought that I paid for and I never got the money.

Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
The job was perfomed in a workmanlike, efficient and seamless manner. The bid was followed closely with no surprises upon completion of the job. Approximately mid Spring
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
returned to our home to check on the progress and growth of all that he had planted and to ask us if we were completely satisfied with his work.
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
had to work around a lot of bad weather and always returned to the job when weather permitted. Whenever he was coming to work he always notified us of his intent to work and showed up at the appointed time. The jobsite was always left in presentable condition and completely cleaned up upon completion of the job. I have since referred
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
to my clients and he has undertaken a job for a company that I am an officer in.

I went with
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
because they were recommended by neightbors when we moved into our neighborhood several years ago. For a time they were so-so: on the plus side,
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
was friendly and responsive, the seasonal clean-ups were excellent, and the crews were friendly and reliable. Over time, however, I became progressively less happy with
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
.
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
came out to look at a small hardscaping job, for instance, but never got back to me with an estimate. Also, I was having trouble growing grass in the back yard, and mowing crews repeatedly trampled or over-mowed new young grass, killing it. Last summer, I was away for a six weeks and the grass was completely dead when I returned -- but despite weekly visits by the mowing crew, no one bothered to contact me to say, "half the grass you're paying us to mow is dead." Frustrated, I finally called last fall and said I needed different or better service; the phone receptionist, though friendly, basically said, "Our crews are paid to mow, that's it: they don't take crae of grass or tell us if it's dead, they just mow any grass that's there."
I asked if there was some different service I could set up -- something more suitable for a busy working professional who wanted a full-service arrangement. The receptionist said I could upgrade to a more enhanced kind of service; when I asked how much it would be, she said
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
would have to come take a look. I asked her to have
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
contact me; she said she would, but I heard nothing back. Over the course of several emails over several months, I asked again to have
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
or someone else contact me to discuss setting up a more full-service plan-- silence.
Finally, in April, I gave up and decided it was time to find a lawn and landscaping service that was more responsive, so I notified
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
by email that I wished to discontinue all services as of that date and asked that they remove me from their client list. I wrote: "I've been a
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
Side client for years, but over the last year have grown increasingly frustrated about the inconsistent quality of the services and inconsistent responses to service requests. (No follow-up after a hardscaping consultation with
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
last year; no follow-up on requests last fall for a consultation about getting a better and more comprehensive service plan; crews relpeatedly trampling on grass seedlings; etc.).
At this point I think it's time for me to cancel any services still listed in your system and find a lawn and landscaping company that is a bit more responsive. I'm disappointed to have to do this; The
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
Side originally came highly recommended by neighbors, but I need to find a company that will follow-up promptly and can provide better and more consistent service."
I received no response whatsoever, which surprised me, but I went about the business of finding a new lawn care service (which ended up being cheaper, as well). I figured
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
had gotten too big too fast and had let customer service for smaller customers slip, but didn't see the point of writing a negative review; I was a bit frustrated, but that was all.
That would have been the end of the story -- but in early
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
, I got a brand new bill for serviced that had supposedly been performed since my April email (while another lawn service was actually on the job!). I emailed and left a voice mail reminding
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
that I had cancelled all services back in April, and asked that the bill be cancelled. No response. Then, in late
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
, I got an email informing me that my bill was past due and asking me to pay immediately. I fired off another round of emails (forwarding the previous messages) and voicemails -- again, no response. Finally, I called and by some miracle I got
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
on the phone. He said curtly that he'd "take care of it." (No apology). I thanked him and hung up, thinking that at least this would finally get resolved. But guess what came in yesterday's mail? A brand new bill, dated several days after my conversation with
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
!
That's when I turned to Angie's List.
Bottom line: a lot of my neighbors still use
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
and seem satisfied. I don't know if my experience was anomalous, but it was not great. I understand that sometimes small companies expand rapidly and "outgrow" their smaller customers -- it may cease to be worth their time to deal with people whose needs only generate $20 or $30 a month. That's fine, and if at any point someone at
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
had said, "We're sorry, but we just don't think we're the right company for what you need," I'd have thought that was fair enough. But the lack of communication and responsiveness is extremely unprofressional, and my apparent inability to get
Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
to stop sending me bills for services I have cancelled is beyond irritating. Caveat emptor.

Brooklyn, Landscaping Mulch Provider Name Locked
was very nice and even though the price changed it was still very reasonable for the work that he performed. He was late a couple days without a call and had to call him to see what was going on. But he always answered back quickly. I was not in a big hurry so did not really bother me. He did not come out and provide a visual estimate so the price was $100 more than expected but I though the price was still very reasonable for what he did. He was. Courteous and professional. I would still use him again and recommend him.
