"The service tech took the time to ask us questions about the lack of performance of our dishwasher. We felt that the dishes were not getting clean (dirty residue)." We were "braced" for the news that our repair bill was going to be exorbitant. After putting the machine thru some basic tests, it was recommended that there was no actual issue with the dishwasher, but suggested that we make sure that we run the water in the kitchen sink to be certain it was really hot, switch to Cascade in the granular form, and add a product called Glisten. Problem solved! It was so refreshing not to get the run around on finding a solution.

"I called a few appliance repairmen from Angie's List.
was the only one who answered right away. We needed our
" fixed asap. He informed us of a reasonable trip fee up front and scheduled us in for the next day. He was on time and called when he was about ten minutes away. I am sensitive around strangers but quickly felt comfortable being alone with him. He was knowledgable, fast, and explained everything he was doing. I am recommending him to my family and friends. It's a really nice feeling being able to say, "I've got a guy for that".

The decision to repair or replace small appliances can depend on the severity of the issue and the age of the appliance. (Photo courtesy of Angie's List member James E.)

Small appliance repair

Small appliances play a big role in our daily lives. When shopping for microwave ovens, vacuums, toasters, mixers and more, choose appliances that fit your need and budget. When it comes to repairs, compare the cost of fixing to the cost of replacing the item.

If the ducts are venting through a window I'm assuming the duct work is all easily accessible.  Lowe's and Home Depot sell a cleaning kit that uses an electric drill to spin the brush as it goes through the ductwork.  I've found it to work quite well and you can do it yourself.  It may take a few passes the first time to get everything out if it has been a while since it was last cleaned.  Just make sure you get all of the loose lint out after running the brush through from both ends and you're good to go.  Please note that if the line is not hard but rather a flex duct line you can easily puncture a whole in it with this kit and will do better to clean it by hand.

As stated above, it can vary between companies.

Typically just an inspection implies you do not have a contract or agreement that may include discounts or free repairs.

With our company you would get the annual maintenace service that you should do every year, and if repairs are needed, they are extra, but you aviod paying a "service call charge" that would be related to most repairs, because you are paying for the "inspection" and we are already on site.

Inspections are often discounted in the slow seasons, and can usually be found advertised , at reduced prices , on Angie's List.

So consider Angie's List and find the best of the best in HVAC contractors!

I have never seen one of this type that does not exit the house. You would not want the grease dumping into your basement, even with a filter it will happen.

The greater part of your job will be carpentry as if there is a wall behind the stove a hole will have to be cut up through the basement into the wall up to the stove. Unless it is one of the stoves that allows for it to fit inside a cabinet below. To answer correctly most here would be a picture of where this project is being done. I have done motorized ones that extend up out of the counter when in use and then retract. Those exit through the cabinet and require the cook top is to the front of the counter and not a drop in one

As an added note these tend to be better as they do not pull the heat away from the stove top when in use as much as the ones flush with the stove. I have install quite a few and happen to have an Amana cook top with built in down draft and I have to shut it of to get water to boil on the back burners.

A carpenter will know what can be cut and what not in the basement, a sheet metal contractor should know as well but at the other end for the finish by the stove they might not. Most carpenters that do kitchens have installed the minimal amount of duct work for this. They just have to be carefull with the number of ellbows and the lenght of the duct.

It was great. As I explained above, He first came here on 1/6/14 to diagnose the problem. Then, on the 14th, after the part was received, he came back to do the installation. I paid for the cost of the repair part (+tax of course) and the cost of the Angie's list deal of $60. He gave great advice on my washing machine and he also told me what to look for in a good replacement for the dishwasher.

Technician came same day I called. Said would order parts and have repair complete within the week. Estimate was $700.00 for all parts and labor. (Following week was Thanksgiving and I really needed the oven.) He came back in 2 days with some of the parts and and announced that he was leaving town for two weeks and could not finish the repairs until then. The oven at that point would heat, but not evenly. He told me to bake my cakes in the left side of the oven! I had already given my credit card number and did not know what to do at that point. He did return in 2 weeks and the estimate had gone up to $900.00. His attitude was not geared to customer service and I feel that I was mislead from the beginning about the timeline and the cost. I definitely would not recommend or use this service again.

Company refused to diagnose over the counter microwave oven that was removed from above the oven, saying it needed to be in place for diagnosis. I said it just needs to be plugged in to a power source, and they refused.

Who knew it could take two full months for an easy repair? I will give you the short version: these people will not call you back, will not keep your appointments, and will not show up with the parts needed for the repairs. While the repair guy was fine, getting him out there was a trial. If you have to use them (for example, if you made the mistake of buying Frigidaire appliances and have to use them for the warranty work) then you will have to bulldog the office to get it done.

I did use someone for appliance repair for garbage disposal but I wasn't there. I think that was
Reno Small Appliance Repair Provider Name Locked
. They were timely. I wish I didn't have to pay 50 dollars to push a button but you don't know that until after that, otherwise they were good. They came out in a timely fashion, were able to get it down and they did lower the price once they knew it was a button because otherwise it was like 150 dollars.
