"We usually do our own snow shoveling but often go out of town for a few weeks during the winter or are otherwise unable to do snow removal. In the past (since running" out of teenagers to do the shoveling) we have contracted with various providers for periodic snow removal. There were always problems (didn't come when they were supposed to, came when they weren't supposed to, did more or less than requested).
caught my eye on Angies List because they do "organic lawn care," so I thought they'd be careful of my native plant garden. They were easy to reach and very responsive. In fact, while deciding which plan to choose (they offer full season services, 5 or 10 visit packages, or "on-request" services) I contacted them many times by phone and email. When I apologized for my frequent calls, they kindly reassured me that I should call whenever I needed to. Their prices seem quite reasonable. De-icing with "eco-friendly" ice melt costs extra and is pricey, but not inconsistent with the cost of this type of ice melt. They seem very organized and efficient, sending out emails when snow is predicted and again when they "activate" their routes. They also send notifications when icy conditions are predicted so you can request de-icing services. I selected a prepaid (you can pay in one installment or four monthly installments) 5-visit package. When we were out of town recently I called to activate the service; when we returned, I emailed to deactivate it. They came twice, so I still have three visits left. Our housesitter reported that the crew came promptly after each snowfall and did a good job. I was initially afraid they seemed too good to be true, but they've certainly lived up to their promises. We're so pleased we may just sign up for a full season's services next year.

"This is a great company. Although we usually have no problem doing our own snow removal for our single-family home, we often go out of town for several weeks during" the winter or for other reasons are unable to shovel.. We have used various companies in the past, and there were always problems (didn't come when promised, did more or less than requested, etc).
caught my eye because they offer "organic lawn care," and I have a native plant garden. They were easy to reach and extremely responsive. They offer a choice of plans: fixed price total season snow removal, 5-visit package, 10-visit package, or single visits on request. Depending on the plan, there may be an extra charge for removal of accumulations over 6 or 9 inches. "Eco-friendly ice melt" costs extra if you choose it; that service is expensive but not out of line with the cost of the deicing product. Compared to what I've seen and paid previously, their prices are very reasonable. In the process of deciding which plan to choose I called and spoke with
staff multiple times. At one point I apologized for being such a frequent caller, and they kindly reassured me that I should feel free to call whenever I needed to. I chose a five-visit package; I call or email them to "activate" or "deactivate" visits. When we were out of town recently I activated the services; they came for two snowfalls. When we returned I deactivated the service, so I still have three visits left to use when needed. Our housesitter reported that both times it snowed in our absence the crew came out promptly and did a good job.
seems very organized, sending emails whenever snow is forecast and then again when they activate their routes. They also email when icy conditions are predicted, so you can request de-icing services. We are so pleased with their services we may sign up for total season services next year.

How to Get Rid of Springtails

One of the most effective ways to control springtails is to dry out the infested area. Springtails require a high-moisture environment to breed and thrive, living mostly off of algaes that grow in moist conditions. They will either leave the infested area or die out. If there is an infestation that cannot be controlled by drying out the infested area, use an appropriately labeled insecticide with a residual time These will typically be a liquid concentrate form, a wet-able powder form, or a dust product.  DO NOT APPLY UNTIL AREAS ARE DRY.  If area will not dry naturally, use Corn Starch to soak-up any lingering moisture and otherwise 'steer' any rain water or irrigation away from area.

Also, if there is a noticed springtail infestation around the perimeter of the structure, use the insecticide to do a barrier treatment and apply corn starch to reduce or eliminate moisture. Caulk and seal all cracks and crevices and inspect potted plants before they are brought into the house.

I would talk to your local lawn and garden supply store (or mill and feed) - NOT a box store or hardware store. There are also selective grass control chemicals. YOu can research this by Googling using search string      "Tall Fescue Control" - there are lots of articles by the USDA and individual state cooperative extension services.

There is a treatment called chlorsulfuron TFC (Tall Fescue Control) that will do this - it worked for me in western New York, but took 3 years to finish out all the tall fescue. It may now be limited to use by commercial applicators - pretty potent stuff. Can yellow bluegrass or make it phytosensitive, but our looked OK during treatment because the TFC was applied in the fall for best results, and our lawn was dormant till spring anyway.

Tall fescue can also be controlled by real short mowing, but only in areas where the bluegrass is dominant and really thrives so will eventually crowd out the trimmed fescue, but you may be too far north for that.

We have been using them for about almost 5 years now. We are very pleased with how things have gone with them. They have a real-can-do-attitude. They did a great job with putting down brick pavers and it made a big difference. They are also reliable and I pleased with them. They always ask what I needed done every time come out. They help fertilize, trim and whatever else we need them to do.

One month, I didn't pay because I wanted to make sure some specific weeds were taken care of and they turned me over to the collection agency without even contacting me.

and I have literally worked side by side for some years. We actually worked with me separately from Angie's List--as at that point I was unaware of Angie's List. (Sorry...) I certainly was pleased to see his business listed here.
He's dependable, tidy, punctual, careful, professional...what other good adjectives can I supply. I respect him and his work greatly.

I've been using them for the last 8 years. They do a great job and are by far the best price, at least for the size of my lawn. don't expect customized service beyond addressing a few specific issues, if you request, but otherwise it is a fairly canned service. I've used their pest control services in the past and will be changing that back to

next month.

All went very well except for the lawn aeration. They came after a long dry spell and the soil was very compacted as it has a very high red clay content. Thus the plugs were not universally scattered throughout the lawn so the grass seeds only laid on top of the soil. I did call them about this, and they came and did a touch up that did work. Unfortunately, the cold arrived very early this autumn, so I am not sure the new grass will survive the winter. I will not know until spring to say one way or the other. When they called about the renewal, I mentioned the aeration and reseeding did a poor job, and they are providing a spring aeration and seeding at no cost to me. Thus, I believe this company to be reliable and they said behind their "product" very well.

Wonderful, professional service. They would contact through email a few days prior to inform when they were coming to treat lawn. They always left a detailed summary report of the treatment done on that particular day. When I had an event planned for the weekend, I contacted them to be sure they did not come out the days prior to treat the lawn. They were very accommodating. All I have to do is mow the lawn and keep the grass watered after some treatments during the summer. Payment was easy. Either in full (they offer a discount) or on account. It could be done online on your personal account with the company. Your personal account retains all your payments, treatment options and details of visits. Communication through email was immediate and courteous. My lawn has not looked this good in four years and I have renewed for another year. I have received many complements and I must admit it is one of the best looking lawns on the street.

I was impressed with

After some initial confusion about the start of my service..they arrived promptly and did the job in a very professional manner throughout the summer. Like all lawn companies they offered extra services but there was no pushiness involved. I still hate the "we'll start next summer unless you tell us differently" approach that all lawn services use, but this company appears to do what they say they are going to do and listens when you call them and responds well.
