"Price and quality are great.
is awesome. In general I cannot say enough good things about
. The only negative," and it's a minor one, was that we never really knew what the status of the build was after it started. We were thinking it would be done by one time only to see the job unfinished over the weekend. Also, some parts were late to come in so we had to wait for them, they were minor so no big deal but we needed to reach out to find out the situation. Would be nice if those conversations were more proactive. That being said I'd go with
and his team if you need a deck. You won't regret it.

"Workmanship on deck was excellent. Patio roof extension was satisfactory. Chief detractor was a leak issue somewhere vicinity of where new
" connected with original construction. Vendor attempted to locate problem & fix at least twice, but every time it rains a lot (which is not often!), the leak persists. In retrospect, I would locate a vendor that provides one-stop shopping; e.g., had to arrange separately for electrical work. Vendor also out sourced masonry work.

I agree with Jim Casper - after about 50 years of dealing with weathered wood finishing both in my homes and in the construction business, it comes down to about 90% preparation, 10% the finishing. If you do not prep the wood right, any moisture, mold, etc in the wood will destroy whatever you put over it.

High-build finishes like paint and epoxies and, from reading the Rustoleum flyer on this new product that too, work by trying to make an impenetrable surface and depend on a very good bond with the surface, AND no water getting under them. Because they are thick and are designed to provide a waterproof surface, unfortunately where water gets under them they are just as good or better at keeping it from evaporating, so you get fungal growth, blistering, and peeling.

Unfortunately, on deck and most outdoor applications except siding the surface will get nicked, scratched and otherwise develop leaks in short order. Water will therefore get into the underlying wood, and because it entered through small cracks and scratches, does not have any airflow to make it evaporate, so it sits there and breaks the finish bond to the wood (causing peeling and blisters), and promotes decay. That is why new deck boards and siding and trim that have been heavily or multi-coat painted on all 4 sides, thinking that will give the best protection, only last a few years versus the usual 10-20 years or so for boards that are painted top and sides only.

The full sun and hot conditions will, of course, cause more thann normal heating of dark colored painted decking. I had one instance where I was doing an independent appraisal of a very large commercial deck at a government facility, and in 85-90 degree daytime temps, in the sushine the chocolate brown deck surface temp was 150 degrees, and the paint was softening so much it stuck to the bottom of your shoes a couple of months after application.

As Jim said, the studies pretty clearly show that a breathable penetrating stain gives the best life, after plain ACA/CCA (copper chromium variations - the green stuff) treated wood. Penetrating stains, properly applied, do NOT seal in the moisture, they inhibit its entry and (when dark colored) help protect against sun damage to the wood and finish, but still breathe enough to let moisture escape on dry days. For my money, I will only use petroleum distillate (paint thinner cleanup) products, as they penetrate into the wood much better. Water based ones immediately start swelling the wood pores, so it blocks further penetration of the stain, which while cleanup is a bit easier, totally defeats the purpose of a PENETRATING stain or sealer.

I would recommend against any sort of waterproofing sealer, as they trap the water just like paint, and I have never seen one that is effective for 2 years.

My personal preference, though it limits the architectural coloration possibilities, is ground-contact rated copper compound treated wood (NOT the Wolmanized brown product), which comes green initially but can be retreated with either green or brown solution or can be liquid colorized darker (though not easily to a specific tone) using either of those as a base. My practice is to redo the treatment before installation to ensure thorough treatment, as from the mill it commonly has skips where boards contacted each other or where stacking seperators laid on it, and the ends are commonly very poorly done. This is done after cutting to length, as cut ends have to be retreated anyway.  A simple short deck cleaner soak followed by a light pressure washing and brush or roller re-treating of ONLY the TOP surface every 10 years or so has, for me, reduced visible weathering of the boards and beams to negligible.

As stated by others: You get what you pay for.  Many contractors no longer use employees.  The cost/benefit ratio is gone by the time worker's comp. insurance, unemplyment and other taxes are paid.  Especially with the high turnover in our industry.  Many, myself included, have our guys set up as sub-contractors.  That means even if the job is only for a day the duties have been outlined and a set pay to complete those duties has been established from the onset.  It's a better way to manage costs once I got used to it.  Also, it means I can operate cheaper and not have to charge as much to the customer.  My agreements with my guys, which they sign, make it clear that I nor the homeowner are responsible for their safety and medical care should a problem arise and that all parties are relieved of any such obligation.  If you hire a contractor who follows this growing practice ask to see a copy of his sub-contractor agreement.

That being said, a legitimate contractor still has operating cost which vary by area and how they run their business.  I break even at $150/day not including labor and materials so I've got to charge more than that to make money.  To keep the math simple, if I'm paying $250 for a pne day job in labor plus another $300 in materials and $150 operating costs I've got to charge $700 to the customer to break even.  That's if I'm only doing one job a day which is why most of us manage several at a time.  The point I'm trying to make is that someone with the necessary knowledge and experience to build you a safe deck is not going to be cheap.  Knowledge accompanies success which costs money.

I've repaired or restructured several decks built by handymen who should find another profession.  Ask yourself this question when hiring someone for this project: Would I trust this person to build my house?  If the answer is no you need to find someone else.  The deck is just as important.  It's where your family, friends, kids are going to gather and interact.  If it isn't structurally sound it can collapse causing injury or even death.  One last word on decks: Always screw a deck together, don't nail it.

Assuming you buy the right size door to fit the rough opening, and that your old door is not a size that is no longer made, and that you get the correct depth and transition adapters and sills and flashing and trim and seals and such, and that you transport it home without distorting and damaging it, then removal and disposal of old one and install new one probably about $250-400 depending on how well it fits, number of transition and similar pieces that have to be assembled (from 1 or 2 for some doors to as many as 30 on others).

The laundry list of things at the start WAS intended to intimidate you - I would say not 1 in 25 homeowners who buy a new patio door have bought it the right size for the rough opening and have everything needed to install it - the contractor almost invariably has to go get materials or parts to complete the installation - sometimes waiting weeks for factory adapters that are needed or missing parts AFTER the original door has already been taken out.

I would question why you are going to probably spend as much installing a door that may not do the job for you as the cost of the door. I would hazard at least half of people who go buy a $250-400 cheap door at a box store are sorely disappointed within months - due to poorly fitted parts, bad or non-existent seals causing drafts or water leaks, fogging or breaking glass, etc.

I would recommend you assess your needs, in conjunction with your installer find a decent and reputable brand unit to fit that need and that fits the loction right, and probably pay 50% more installed but have something that you might actually be happy with. Oh - BTW - your best installers generally will not install the cheapest box store units because they do not want the callbacks, so many times the quality of the installer who will actually do the job for you at a price you are willing to pay gives you a job that is - you guessed it, worth what you paid for it.

?

The product has evolved considerably since the lawsuit.

I would still do your own research and give you contractor your feedback.  At the end of the day, the cost for whatever board you want will be similar.

They gave themselves a six week window but when they heard we had a big party planned near the end of the window, they sped up the service. Took about a week for the power washers to show up. They did a good job. Then came the carpenters about a week later. They also did a great job but it was difficult to communicate with them. They spoke mostly Spanish. With the help of
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
, from the main office, we were able to resolve misunderstandings about what was included in the scope of work. (When they give the original estimate, make sure everything is listed in the contract or as a caption under the pictures they take of your existing deck.) The carpenters tore out and replaced rotten side panels on the
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
, to which a built-in bench was attached. They did not think they had to replace the bench. But in the caption under the picture of the bench, it said to rebuild it.
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
clarified this for them and they came back and completed that part of the job at the end. They also had a separate contractor carry off the rotten wood that was pulled out of the deck. They used plywood shields to protect our bushes when they were spraying the new coating on the deck. Egor, who gave the original estimate, did a good job of listing most everything in the contract or captions. Some minor items weren't listed in the contract and never got done. They were all things I can do myself. I also used
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
about five years ago when we lived in Gaithersburg. There too, they did a great job, although we worried several times because it had rained recently or rained soon after. Several months later, after rain storms, we would notice small bubbles in the deck but these stopped appearing after a few months and there was no problem. Five years later, the deck showed no signs of deterioration although we needed to clean some spots with soap and water. In the most recent job, for our house in Reisterstown, the coating seems to dry faster and is not quite as thick. That explains why they weren't worried that it was going to rain about eight hours after they finished. It did rain. Just before the rain, the deck felt dry. Since then, there hasn't been any noticeable problem.

The day of installation, they were here right on time and were able to complete the project that day. The deck is solid and beautiful and we are enjoying it every day. Thanks,

I highly recommend
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
. After dealing with a number of small contractors over the years to do various odd jobs, it was like a breath of fresh air from start to finish with these guys. They earned my trust and confidence each in each step of the process.
1. When I called they actually answered the phone. (As dumb as that sounds, I found many do not and several don't even bother calling back,)
2.
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
, the owner, spoke with me himself and was extremely professional, guided me through the process and the pricing upfront. He answered all my questions fully and made me feel quite confident that I had made the right decision calling his company. (Most others that I spoke with either seemed bothered that I had called or came across as sleazy con-men, and none gave up front pricing.)
3. The
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
arrived on time and was ready to begin work right away. (I can tell you horror stories about other contractors who could not even do this
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
task.)
4. The
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
was polite. Yes POLITE!!!
5. The
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
had all the correct tools. (My lending toolbox stayed in the
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
of the car.)
6. The
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
confirmed the scope of the work, inspected the work area, confirmed the estimated time and once again made sure that I was aware of the pricing up front.
7.The
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
knew what to do and did it effectively and efficiently. It was really fun just watching him knock it out, almost like it was choreographed. They say that pros make it look easy, this guy made it look dead
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
. (I know from personal experience it was not easy at all when you have a steep roof, that's why I hired them in the first place, that and I am getting old.)
8. He would have cleaned up at the end but I stopped him as he had done quite enough on such a hot day and because I figured that I could do the cleaning myself.)
9. When he completed the work he thanked me for the opportunity to work on my project and said that he would be happy to assist me in any future projects.
10. The company sent me my receipt by email and thanked me for my business.
Honest, friendly, polite, professional, experienced, knowledgeable, trustworthy, hard working, and not over priced. Yup! I recommend them.

We searched Angie's List for deck builders. We decided to get estimates from 4 of the top rated companies and 2 additional estimates from outside sources. We contacted
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
and Docks and were scheduled an estimate. From the minute we met their representative,
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
, we just knew we would be using this company.
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
took the information and that night we had a complete estimate for the job. We DID schedule all the other estimates but we were not impressed with either their estimates, their building plan (or lack of) , their speed of the estimate and/or their personal representative. All of these estimates were done in May 2015 but we were not able to begin our project immediately due to medical and family issues. When we were able to begin this project, we contacted
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
and Docks and told him we completely changed the deck configuration.
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
, the owner reconfigured the project and gave us an estimate within 12 hours. As soon as we received the estimate, we contacted
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
again and asked when this project could be started. The terms were 20% down and the balance at completion. Within 12 more hours, there was a stack of lumber in our yard and they started that day. We were so pleased that "
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
" ( the man that came out to do the estimate ) was the foreman! The project took 3 days and we were so impressed by the professionalism of their work. The installers were very friendly and personable all the while working in the hot sun one minute and the rain the next minute. All day long with NO breaks! When the job was complete, the owner of the company assured that we were pleased and sent us the invoice for the balance. What a GREAT experience!!!

Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked

From the beginning
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
exhibited the professionalism and expertise we were looking for in building our deck. We first called
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
a couple years ago but ended up waiting on the project for a couple of years. When we called back, our contact there,
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
, remembered all of our information and preferences. He wanted to come out again and spent over an hour with us talking about how we wanted our deck constructed and the different materials we could use. The price was a little bit higher than some of the competitors but definitely within the range and probably a bit higher given the quality of materials being used. When
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
finally came to build the deck they worked to expedite the permit process in our town so that we can have the deck in the timeline we requested. They built the deck in only 3 days with a large number of workers working on the project. The owner,
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
, was there and builds each and every deck and spent hours measuring each and every aspect of the project. Our backyard is sloped downward from the house and
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
and his team did an amazing job making sure that the posts and beams were set up that the deck is perfectly level. I had a few follow up requests once the deck was installed and even after the project,
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
and his team was responsive and had his workers out within days of our call. Their attention to detail, quality of workmanship and great employees really sets Deck Unique apart from the competition.

It was handled exceptionally. I was working with the provider long distance. The company was patient, and communicated well. The work site was always well kept. They were very professional overall. They did the job for my special needs brother and they were very patient with him. They also were very careful replacing the satellite dish after the job and repairing damage done by the satellite company.

Things went very well from my initial meeting with
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
to the completion. Great professional people to work with. This was not a large deck in size but complicated by the limited work space between the back of the house and back fence (zero-lot line lot). Additionally, the ground was higher on one side than the other.
Paramus Deck Builders Provider Name Locked
and his team constructed a strong foundation structure and anchored the deck to ensure stability and longevity. The finishing touches really set off their work and the final product is beautiful. I am so happy with my new deck.
