Instead of going the conventional route with flooring, think outside the box and try a different flooring material, such as bamboo, cork, glass or stone.
Whether you go quiet with cork or leather, or bold with glass or artistic tile, your flooring choices can set the tone for your home’s design.

"Etiquette and tipping experts agree that tipping a contractor and his employees isn't expected because contractors offer to do a job for you at a specific price. Any extra money they would want would be built into their bid. Also, it's a business relationship rather than one where they are performing a personal service for you like a waiter or a maid. But if the employees do extra jobs around the house, then experts say it is appropriate to tip a cash amount equivalent to the task; "tip gifts" such as cookies and drinks can count. "The key to tipping is whether or not it was outside the scope of what was normally expected," says Mark Brenner, author of "Tipping for Success!"
My opinion is that a little bit of courtesy (snacks, drinks, expression of appreciation etc.) goes a long way and upon completion of their work you feel compelled by a job well done to offer a little extra in the form of a tip - go for it, but do not feel obligated.
I get so many calls from customers that were talked into a "cheaper" way to do something only to find the work very sub-par. The sad part is they are out the money they spent in the first place along with the additional amount I have to charge just to undo what the first contractor did before I can do it right. This floor could end up costing you double what it should if it's not done right.

different state that we lived. They worked with us to get the best
carpet in stock and install ASAP. Job was very well done. They were
courteous and very reasonable in price.
Remember the saying? don't judge a book by its cover. Same here, read on and
you'll do well to avoid the
(Marsheine) and we discussed the Balterio brand laminate. Mrs.
was very informative and in addition, explained the procedure of how Mr. (
owner-operated business who took pride in their work. We would soon learn that
both she and Mr.
installation and follow through.
contacted me the next day Thursday, January 15th and verbally gave
me the breakdown of the cost estimate with the Great Room total being $3414.93
and the Guest Bedroom came in at $1234.05. I told Mrs.
my wife on the cost and would get back with them thereafter. I called
January 16th. Mr.
that I was not as convinced as my wife of replacing our carpet with laminate. I
made a commitment to her that if
would install only the Guest Bedroom and, we would give it a month and if all
worked out well, I would go along with completing
the Great Room too. Mr.
to install the Guest Bedroom only and then the Great Room at a later date if
all went well. Mr.
$600 to a credit card for the deposit. Mr.
a copy of the proposal and deposit in writing. Mr.
proposal with deposit receipt, but rather, sent it with his installation crew.
The workers arrived at 11am and left the premises at 1:15pm,
a total of two hours and 15-minutes to unpack, install the padding, laminate,
molding and pack-up. When we looked into the room we were horrified at what we
saw. Nothing looked professional, the planks were not symmetrically laid with
several joints being within an inch of the baseboard (see photos #2 & #3);
the shoe molding had been cut off square with no effort to install along the
vertical trim (see photo #4); there was no transition piece from the laminate
to the carpet at the closet door (see photo #5); the T-Molding of the entrance
door had not been fitted correctly and there were gaps at both door jams (see
photo #6); and lastly, there was a joint in the middle of the door of the first
plank when entering the room; this is a definite no, no per the Balterio
manufacturers installation guide. Incidentally, it was very cold outside on
installation day with very gusty winds and I offered
to set up his saw for cutting. I knew there would be sawdust on the floor but
what I did not know is laminate does not leave sawdust as if cutting a piece of
wood, but rather, a fine dust which floats through the air like
can't even imagine the mess throughout everything stored on the shelves of our
garage. Yes, I offered but I fault
aware of what his laminate dust was like. This was an awful mess to try and
clean up! The effort is ongoing.
On Thursday, February 5th, 3-days after
installation my wife and I visited
into scheduled meeting one of three planks that had been ruined by
present. We not only stated how "schlock" the installation visually
looked, I then outlined the concerns I had for warranty per the Balterio
manufacturers installation guidelines (see photo #7). At one time when my wife
was discussing her displeasure of seeing a joint just ¾ inches from the
end of the shoe molding, replace the T-Molding and write us up a personal
warranty. He flatly refused to take up and correctly
cobbled up where they met the walls. Yes, our blood pressure went up. We agreed
to Tuesday, February 17th as the day to retro fit the T-Molding and
shoe molding. It was that or nothing at all.
The crew was a no-show on February 17th with no
phone call and could not be reached. On Friday, February 20th
he had at the time of initial estimate in tow. The retro fit of the shoe
molding was completed and the T-Molding replaced. Mr.
personally written full installation warranty by
signed by him which both I and my wife feel is worthless. In conclusion, be
sure to look at the last two photo which is how the installer left the
T-Molding (glue has oozed out the entire length of the T-Molding).
He removed and hauled away carpeting and linoleum from the living room, kitchen and dining room plus 2 stairways and 2 hallways. It was all done so fast! Then he installed our hardwood flooring (we provided the flooring so the cost of service above is for labor) and replaced all the baseboards. The results are stunning! The entire experience from the first phone call to when he drove away after the project was complete was wonderful and simply could not have gone any better. We felt like we were working with a long-time friend, not a hired contractor.
In short, the work was done to the highest standard by people we enjoyed welcoming into our home and we feel like we received the best possible value and service. Thank you Vahe! You are the best!
