"One of the previously decommissioned chimneys on our historic house deteriorated and developed a large hole above the 3rd floor ceiling and began tilting. Concerned" that the 6' above the roof might topple through our new and very expensive roof, I called a number of contractors.
was the second of two that came out and first to quote. Although the 6' of the chimney above the roof had previously been replaced both contractors proposed removing the chimney to below the hole and rebuilding a false chimney only for appearance sake.
called November 5th in the early afternoon to say he was on the way to look at the job and if we wanted him to do the work he could start by stabilizing the chimney on the 6th. When he called back with a quote of $5,600. I had not received the 2nd quote and it sounded reasonable so I told him I would accept his offer. He said it would take about 4 days to complete. I further told him we need a certificate of insurance from their insurance agent before workers showed up to work. At this time he reneged on the start date of the 6th, but said they could start on the 7th between 9am & 1pm with the stabilization and demolition. We are closed on Fridays so I arranged for someone to be there to open for them.
arrived with a laborer, collected the requested $2,800.00 deposit but provided no contract and did not have the requested certificate of insurance. He was reminded that we wanted a good quality job done.
did no stabilization and to the contrary removed three walls of the chimney from the roof line down past the hole to the third floor leaving only the roof boards holding up the six feet of chimney above the roof and without authorization. When I saw what was done that night I called and spoke to
who said we wanted it done right and that was the right way to do it. He went on to say it was now a $10,000.00 job. After much negotiation he agreed to do the new job for $6,900.00 on the 11th and it would take 8 more days. Work proceeded very slowly. workers didn't show up every day and typically didn't start until 10a - 12p or later. After several weeks less than half of the chimney was complete, in the first 4' it was 2" out of plumb, there was a nearly 1" belly in one side and the horizontal mortar joints varied from 5/8" on some to 1" on others. I met with
when he came in that day telling him I didn't have confidence that he could properly finish the job and asked him to leave. During the project to date, never did the owner or a supervisor show up to check on the job. I later learned this was
's first job with the company. When they finally provided the certificate of insurance it had no workers comp insurance. The owner said employees are sub contractors and he does not carry comp on them (leaving the customer exposed to liability if a worker gets injured). His own advertisements state the business is "fully insured". When he was asked if he had pulled a permit he said a permit is not required for this work. This has not been verified by the
Building Dept. as they are very difficult to contact. Their advertisements again state that they are licensed. When asked the owner said he is licensed as an
(this is not a license but rather a registration). My opinion of this business is: that the owner knows little about business, supervision, screening contractors or the state insurance and licensing regulations. Our job was finally completed by
, who sold us the initial job. He said once he saw
's workmanship he immediately fired him.
and a laborer started late in the morning and did not work every day we were open. Planning and communication left much to be desired. The final product appears to be of acceptable quality although mortar joints & tooling of them is not consistent with the adjacent chimney as we had specified. Kevins work was totally removed. It took
Until January 27th to finish the job. We had a very mild Fall & start of winter & the project could have easily been finished before the temperatures dipped below freezing. Everyone in this company is full of instant excuses for any problems that arise. They may be good at cleaning chimneys but would never recommend them for any brick work. I would also be very careful of them installing new gas equipment unless you see a license for that type of work and a permit for the work.

"Installation went fine, however when it came time to pay, the price did not match the quote we were originally given. Contractor advertises that the first service" call fee is applied to the total cost of repairs, this was verbally confirmed by my husband and the contractor, but did not happen when he finished our install. My husband called about it a few days later and we still have not heard back from them. Make sure you get it in writing!

Chimney Sweeping reviews in Freehold

Good Service! Got an Angie's List deal for inspect & clean. They recommended the cap and tuckpointing and explained why. Nick stopped by while the guys were working since he was in the neighborhood. Fast work and cleaned up well. No complaints!
- Lloyd T.

Overall everything went well with the installation and the quality of work was outstanding. Arvydas was very knowledgable and outlined various vent free gas log options, noting pros and cons of each and recommending which units would look best in each of the three fireplaces as each fireplace varied in size.

Arvydas arrived on a Saturday morning on time and it took the entire afternoon for the installation. He demonstrated each unit as they are remote start (one electronic pilot) and reviewed all of the warranty information. He also disposed of the old units.

The only issue was a little lack of responsiveness via email correspondence in setting up installation. Given that the process started during peak season and over the holidays, it was somewhat expected. However, once he got the units ordered, delivered, and an installation date set, Arvydas was on top of everything and did an outstanding job! The price was high, but the quality was worth it as I wanted to best. The fireplaces look great and significantly enhance the ambiance of each room: entry foyer room, living room, dining room. I would recommend him to anyone looking to upgrade their fireplace units.

I have used this provider before, and their prices are cheap and work is Ok... assuming you don't mind dealing with their scheduling glitches. They're not thorough in their communication, so you have to be on top of things to make up for that. And even then, things can go wrong.. Case in point, I was told to call their office after I purchased the deal on
Freehold Chimney Sweeps Provider Name Locked
15, which I promptly did. They told me that they were booked 4 weeks out, so we scheduled the apt at the end of January. They said they have an arrival window of 11am-1pm. So far, so good. The day of the service, they called at 10:05am to let me know they were going to be there within 30 minutes. Since I wasn't expecting them before 11am, I had to scramble and rush back home. I was back at 10:35am. By that time, they had already left. What's worse is that when I called them back (3 times!), they kept telling me to hang tight because there was a
Freehold Chimney Sweeps Provider Name Locked
their driver could be back. Despite promising to call back once they confirm with the driver, they never did! Also, they never called back to check on how the work went or whether I wanted to reschedule. All in all, their scheduling department seems to be challenged, and for this reason, I'd not be using them in the future

Very Professional. On time and polite.
He came in with video camera so he could see up the Chimney to see where it was dirty or if anything was damage.
He covered our floors to ensure no dirt particles would be left behind. He took the time to explain to me how to use my fireplace
and went over safety concerns when buring a fire....More /> He even went on the roof to confirm the flute was in
good condition and made recommendations for down the road.
He took several minutes explaining the safety measures in buring in our fireplace as well as went over
opening and closing the damper.
I would highly recommend
Freehold Chimney Sweeps Provider Name Locked
and would never use my fireplace without it being throughly checked by them.
He also took pictures with his camera and has sent them to my email address for my records-
That was a added bonus... Especially if one is thinking about selling your home.
Though one can get a Home Inspection- The Home Inspection doesnt validate that your Chimney is safe.
Money very well spent-
Plus having the Peace of mind knowing that my Chimney is safe to use..
- Linda E.

It took 4-5 weeks to get on the calendar with these guys after I purchased the dryer vent deal so by the time they came out I was beyond excited. Our brand new dryer had been taking 4-5 cycles to dry clothes so we knew something was up. These guys came out on time as planned/scheduled and were nice enough when they came to the door. About 20 minutes later they asked for a check for the taxes since i'd already paid for the service and they went on their way.... well, the dryer didn't get better, it got worse, to the point that water was dripping out of it each time we tried to dry a load of clothes. I called and left a message about this and never heard back so I decided to move on and hired a different company to come and do the same service. The vent was cleaned today and the dryer works perfect now! the technician that cleaned the vent said that there was an enormous amount of lint clogging the vent so unfortunately the previous cleaning did not work. Had they returned my call and came back out I would have given them an average rating but the fact I had to pay twice for the same service.
- Liza M.

These folks are professional, friendly, intelligent, helpful - I've run out of good things to say. Starting just with the receptionist who took my order, she was fabulously well-informed and was able to suggest the best combination of coupons to save me the most money given what we needed. They arrived when they said they would; they gave me an early-warning call; they were very professional and experienced and knew exactly what they were doing (I do not know these details, but we've had these fireplaces serviced every year by some different companies, and these folks immediately recognized all the things that past companies have had to come out twice to figure out.)
- Roxana S.

The team came and immediately started setup to keep the house clean during the process. They carefully traced back all the lines in the chimney to make sure everything was done correctly. They competed the work early and we are very comfortable that the 80 year old chimney will keep going for another 80 years.
- Sheryl P.

Very punctual and professional. Service only took 20 minutes, so price seemed a little high for that short amount of time.
- Lisa H.
