"My daughter in law called them to unlock her car. She was stuck outside in 90 degree heat, with a sick 7 month old baby. She was told that they would be there in" half an hour and that it would cost $15. Over an hour later, a person showed up to unlock her car. He charged her $215! When she told him that she only had $213 in cash, and that she was quoted much (MUCH) less, he told her he would take the $213 or he could leave. If she didn't like it, she could call the office. She was desperate, and paid the man every penny she had. When she called their office to complain, she was told that since she had paid the locksmith, there was nothing that they could do. Too bad, so sad. I feel that these people are unethical and
upon people in desperate situations.

"
did a very good job on two separate contracts that I signed with them about six months apart. The first contract was to replace exterior" doors and the second was to replace some large picture windows. For each job, I got bids from three contractors before picking
to do the work. One bid on each job was from a local, unlicensed contractor that I had some limited previous experience with and the other two bids on each job were "A" of "B" rated contractors on Angie's List. For doors,
specializes in ProVia, which are pretty high end and I expected their bid on the doors to be the highest but I was surprised when their prices came in a little under the highest bidder (an Angie's List "A" contractor). For windows,
uses more than one manufacturer and I picked the manufacture that I thought was the best fit. Again, their bid was a bit less than the highest bid I received. On both jobs, the unlicensed contractor bids were about 60% less than the others, which provides some indication of how much prices can range when you're getting bids from contractors. But those bids was too-scary low for me to have confidence in. One thing to keep in mind is that not all doors and windows are the same and you really have to do your research on the manufacturer to assess whether you're getting good value for the dollar.
is a family-run business and
came over a few days after I called them for each bid and he took measurements. I liked that he was able to give me a verbal bid for the doors right there on the spot for various options. Specializing in ProVia,
was pretty familiar with the product and the manufacturer catalog is pretty comprehensive. For the windows,
and I went back and forth on different manufacturers over a period of a few weeks and he sent me bids for several options. but he was very responsive with each of my requests. During the whole process,
's demeanor was low-key and there was no sales pressure. Regarding installation, on both jobs, when
received the doors/windows from the manufacturer, they called me to schedule installation. There was a bit of a glitch with the scheduling of the window installation because of manufacturer delivery and
had to reschedule the window installation with me at the last minute. But in the case of both the door and window installations,
did a good job of communicating with me. Overall the installations went very smoothly. The crew showed up when promised each day and worked continuously through the day. The only complaints I might make, which are relatively minor, is that when the window installation was finished, I wasn't completely happy with some of the finish/trim details but I let it slide. Also, when the crew came to the house with the windows there were no screens and there was a bit of a scramble to get the screens from the manufacturer after the fact. I would have thought that the installation crew would have checked that before coming out to install. But they were unaware until I pointed it out. Overall, I would use
again. They're not the cheapest contractor but also not the most expensive. But they seem to run a fairly professional and fair operation.

Angie's Answers

?

Hello - I hope my answer will help point you in the right direction.

The reason you're having a hard time getting clear information is because there are hundreds of companies saying their window is the best. There are probably millions of different features you can choose to have for your windows and in price ranges from $169-$1200 (per double-hung window).

I've been in the business for 15 years and have seen many different window products from many different dealers and manufacturers. This all comes down to: "what's important for you and your home?" If you want a strong warranty from a company who has a full-time service department to give you piece of mind and service your windows should needs be, or are you looking at only those companies who offer true wood interior windows that you can paint or stain to match the home decor? Whatever is your hot-button, then that's where you want to start.

I would recommend you first choose how you want your new windows to look. Wood-interior with vinyl clad is only offered by certain companies, while there is a vinyl woodgrain finish to give you similar results without the maintenance. If you're only looking for a white interior and don't want the maintenance, a fiberglass or vinyl window would be the best choice from what is offered in the market today (vinyl will be less expensive - not necessarily cheaper quality). If you are going to change out a window to a french door and a door to a window, then you WILL NEED to find a contractor with some carpentry experience. Some companies will tell you upfront that they do not handle those sorts of remodeling projects due to the complexity and time it would take to get it complete.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to personally help you with your project as we work in the New England Area. However, if you wish to talk further, please feel free to email me at: sven@ritewindow.com and I'll be happy to let you know our prices for what we offer so you can compare and hopefully find a similar company to do the work for you near the Austin area.

Cheers!

Get your roofer back out there.  Course of shingles above the window need to be pulled, self sealing flashing, drip caps, and counter and step flashing are going to be required here.

This is a flashing issue as the window connects to the mansard roof surface.

Condensation and a leak are two different and very noticeably different (i.e. volume) things.

Flashing and roofing on Mansards can be tricky but is sounds very much like a roofing issue.

?

+1

Much easier to scratch and typically not as good a finished quality as compared to glass.

Benefits are the resistance to breakage as mentioned by LCD.  Any glazing shop should be able to re-create that panel.

?

For a broken window (or leaking seal in multi-pane unit), for a standard roughly 2x3 foot window, can run from low of about $75-125 for single pane to more like $200-300 range for triple pane, depending on construction and any special ultraviolet or heat reflective coatings. If a removeable window unit, of course cheaper to remove it and take to replacement glass place then have them come out, measure glass size, order glass unit, then come back to install.

If taking in yourself, commonly they can do single-pane in an hour or two, but count on a week or so typically for sealed double or triple pane unit to come in, so you will have to seal the opening in the interim. That is an advantage of having them come out - they measure and determine type of unit on first visit and can seal with tape and plastic sheeting (if you have not already done that), then come back with new unit and install a week or two down the road - but you are not stuck with an opening in the wall for a long time.

I contacted
Georges Mills Door Installers Provider Name Locked
about a garage door that had gone off its tracks. Also, haha, by car was trapped in that garage. The door was beyond the point of reliable repair, unfortunately.
Georges Mills Door Installers Provider Name Locked
did offer to repair the door if I wished, though they recommended against it. Most importantly, they got my car out of the garage. They provided a pretty competitive quote for a replacement door. I ended up working with another company for that work, but I greatly appreciated their professionalism and practical advice as I called around for bids.

is very professional, punctual and pays attention to detail. He is a machine.
He made the process look very easy and it all has to do with how much experience he has installing these type of doors. Before you buy a door or even if you are just thinking about installing one, give him a call first.
I made the mistake of buying a door first. Then after I talked to him and saw the product he has to offer, I went with his recommendation.

A J Hall took 1500 dollars and did not complete any of these jobs. I actually wrote the previous review on the small job he did and that was done satisfactorily so I trusted him. This time he stated the jobs, but never finished them. don't trust this guy. He is a lying crook.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IMAGINABLE
Georges Mills Door Installers Provider Name Locked
Florida Glass gave us a bid for a glass railing and hurricane windows for our house remodel. The owner of the company,
Georges Mills Door Installers Provider Name Locked
Fromakis was very nice when I first met him. We gave him the railing job, but gave the window bid to Windows Plus. His company installed the railing. There were problems with the installation so I tried to contact the company to get them to come by to fix them. They would not respond, so I wrote them a letter telling them that the next letter would be from my attorney. That finally got their attention.
Georges Mills Door Installers Provider Name Locked
Fromakis came to address problems we encountered with their work on our glass railings and stair railing. From the time they arrived,
Georges Mills Door Installers Provider Name Locked
took a confrontational posture asking me what my problem was. I showed him the problems we had with the installation. The only one he acknowledged that should have been finished was the end caps on the stair bannister. He basically argued with me on everything else and wouldn?t let me talk to express my concerns. He said this is just piddling stuff and yelled, ?You were going to take us to court over this??. When I told him that threatening them with a letter from my attorney was the only way I got their attention, he said ?I?m not afraid of your f___ing lawyer?. He blamed me for problems they had with the floor and then yelled at me that I was trying to get a new floor out of him. His accusation was totally unfounded as I said nothing about wanting a new floor. All I wanted was for him to trim out the job they did. My contractor was there and he basically said the same thing I was saying.
Georges Mills Door Installers Provider Name Locked
told him, ?I?m a licensed general contractor as well?, and proceeded to dismiss my contractor?s concerns. He said that I told him we were going to remodel the house so he figured that should be left up to the contractor because they didn?t do floors. I told him that all I wanted was an oil rubbed piece that could finish the look of what they did. He again said that they did railings not floors. When I showed him that the forty-five degree corner was left sharp and could cut somebody that walk by it, he first said that people should be careful and that the corner was a normal forty-five degree corner. When I asked him if he wanted to take off his shoe and rub his foot against that corner, he declined. After that, he said that he would send somebody in to file it off. I told him that if that solved the problem, that would be fine. His whole demeanor was to
Georges Mills Door Installers Provider Name Locked
blame on me and yell at me about things he could just have easily agreed to take care of. It was like he got his money, so why am I bothering him with this small stuff? After awhile of getting yelled at, I told him to get out of my house. I was the customer and I wasn?t going to take that from him. He bid the hurricane windows for our house as well and I told him that I was glad that I didn?t give them the job. He said he was glad too because I would have just been a ?Pain in the a**?. I asked him when someone would be coming back to fix the problems, and he yelled at me that he would have the girl in the office call me to tell me when someone would be coming out. I yelled out the door at him that I would not be recommending his company in the future. He yelled back ? That?s fine with me. We have all the business we can handle.? This is the worst case of customer non-service I have received since moving to Fort

His first quote was $1000, but it jumped up $100 twice. I requested deadbolts on both doors, and only got a deadbolt on one. I could see daylight around the door frame, and he said it didn't make any difference. The weather stripping on one of the doors has already come off, and he again said that it didn't matter; that's just the way it was. The handle on the storm door broke off on the second day. When he came back on the 9th, he replaced the storm door, but it's already causing problems again. I've repeatedly requested receipts for the doors he purchased, so that I could contact the manufacturers about warranties and the quality of their products, but he refuses to give them to me, despite saying he will. I feel like he took advantage of me because I'm a disabled woman. I don't believe the doors he bought are what he actually quoted me, because of how flimsy and poorly-constructed they are. He showed up on time and technically did what he said he would do, but I don't feel like I got my $1200 worth, because these doors won't last a year. I feel like the safety of my family is at risk.

It went fine. They removed double sliding patio doors, replaced all wheels on doors and installed new track on bottom. Old track was so bent we could barely move the doors. They now glide easily. At first they were noiseless, but a couple of weeks later they got a little noisy, although they still glide smoothly. This may have been due to pressure put on the door when we later had a safety laminate put on the glass. I wish I'd done it years ago, as the struggle to open & close them was really annoying.
We initially planned to replace the doors, but they're 60 years old, no one makes them any more and it would have cost many thousands of dollars to replace. We're quite happy.

About 6 weeks ago I obtained a preliminary estimate for the job to be done. No Delay or any hassle to get that. The estimate was the best among the other 5. One week prior the installation I've got a call from
Georges Mills Door Installers Provider Name Locked
to set up the day. On that day 6 people came to my property including General Manager at 8 am. Later the site was visited by company President. The job of replacing 2 doors was done quickly, clean, with a high quality, and professionalism. By 1 pm everything was finished and cleaned.

This is the second job I had done by
Georges Mills Door Installers Provider Name Locked
. Several years ago
Georges Mills Door Installers Provider Name Locked
replaced 14 windows and 2 sliding doors in my house. It was exactly with the same quality, speed, professionalism. At one place the sealant was not placed well and this small spot was redone immediately. One year later the latching lock was broken and
Georges Mills Door Installers Provider Name Locked
brought me a replacement with no headache.

We were trying to decide whether to repair or replace our front steps.
Georges Mills Door Installers Provider Name Locked
responded to our request for an estimate to repair our front steps which had serious problems. Chunks of concrete had broken off in places and the metal rail was in bad need of repair or replacement. Although the steps were solid there were many cracks.
Georges Mills Door Installers Provider Name Locked
showed up on time and was very professional. I have researched this enough to recognized that
Georges Mills Door Installers Provider Name Locked
was very knowledgeable about concrete repair including bonding of concrete to existing concrete, repair of cracks to prevent further water seepage into the concrete as well as repair where chucks of concrete had broken off and repair of the old metal railing. I feel
Georges Mills Door Installers Provider Name Locked
could have given us another 5 to 10 years life our of these steps and would have them looking very nice. Had we decided to repair I would have hired
Georges Mills Door Installers Provider Name Locked
immediately; however, we decided instead to totally replace the steps. I rated
Georges Mills Door Installers Provider Name Locked
high on quality based on pictures of his work and his thorough knowledge of concrete repair although he did no work for us through no fault of his own.
