is a very pleasant man and a man of integrity. He returned my call immediately and set up an appointment at my convenience. When he arrived" for the appointment, he bought his men with him, and they set to work on repairing my roof on the spot. They did an outstanding job very efficiently. His crew examined my roof thoroughly and found six additional holes in my roof which they also repaired. I live in Lake
which was the hardest hit location in Columbia during the recent flood. The excellent work they did on my roof stood up during the rain that we had.during the flood which is a testament to the quality of their work. I highly recommend

"A fantastic experience from start to finish. These guys responded quickly to a phone call about a leak in our roof and made room in their schedule to check it out" later that day. They pinpointed the problem as a relatively easy to patch leak and they did the work right then and there. We had previously lined up a far less reputable roofer who had said it was going to be a major fix - that roofer also kept claiming they'd show up to fix it, but never did, prompting our call to
Sons. Bottom line, Hennelley & Sons were professional, efficient, and honest - we'd definitely call on them again in the future.

Angie's Answers

Wow, i aum surprised you didn't get 10 answers already with roofers say X was the best or N was the best or A was the best. In reality you are focusing on the WRONG THING!

5 estimates? Why 5? Why would you do that to yourself? Normally if you are dealing with reputable companies you don't need more than 2 estimates. I advocate to people to always get at least two estimates and if the roofers are saying something very different or if the roofers are way way way off in price, get an equalizer, get a 3rd.  Obviously if you don't trust a roofer disqualify that roofer immediately.  I beliee you have now fallen into "Analysis Paralysis" which is what happens when you have too many opions.

But back to the topic, I said you are focusing on the wrong thing. Why did I say that? Because you can take the best shingle in the world and if installed wrong is compeltely garbage. i can take the worst shingle, known to fail, and if installed properly will last some ammount of time. So you should focus on the roofer, not the product. The roofer is more important and a good quality roofer will only want to install good quality product.

The roof is a system comprised of many components, not just the shingles. You have the water proofing underlayment such as ice shield, the water resistant underlayments such as felt. You have the shingles, the ventilation and the flashing details. All of these things add up to equal one roof. Neglect one and your roof is doomed to fail.

But the roof is more than just product it is detail, know how and heart. Heart? yes heart. It takes the utmost CARING the utmost DESIRE to want to install a good roof. It's hard work and easy to fall into the train of thought as to do what's easier, instead of what's faster.  Faster and easier seldom ever equals better. At the end of the day you ened a roofer that cares about your roof.

So what product is best? That's hard to say. Each manufacturer has multiple plants and it seems each plant puts out varying levels of quality. I will tell you in my area Atlast is known as a cheap commodity shingle. I have Tamko Heritage on my house but I stopped using it because I was having seal failue issues and at the time they offered no contractor certification program, but I hear they started up one. Ownes corning is a decent product backed by a great company. I don't install very many OC's though. I primarily install CertainTeed Landmark shingles and my feeling is that they are the best on the market in my area. I'm sure others will disagree with me.

But don't miss the point, the roofer is more important than the shingle.
I appreciate the fact that with homeowners like you who want to beat the insurance co out of deductibles, so then my rates and every other homeowners rates can also go up just to save you.....Thanks for NOTHING..[8o|]

Any roofer worth using should be able to do the roof with NO MONEY DOWN.

The only scenario I would ask for a deposit is on a crazy odd ball shingle that had to be special ordered.

The question was, Can it be done? The answer is yes. The real question is "Should" it be done? The answer is, no, not unless it is an emergency.   But also let's clarify winter, because we are having a pretty mild winter, so there's kinda not a problem this year so far. I'll refrence "below freezing" from this point forward.

As a certified and licensed roofing contractor, my reputation is on the line. I debate this topic quite often with other roofing contractors who seem to care more about profit than a job well done.  Well, I can tell you from past experience having been a professional roofer for 14 years as of the time of this posting, that the chance for failure increases exponentionally when installed below freezing.  It's better just not to risk it.

Personally I will not, unless absolutely necessary and the customer signs a disclaimer of limited liability, install a roof below freezing and really really want to install the roof at 40 or above. The shingles need to seal, and will not seal unless they warm to about 70 degrees F ambient temprature. This does not mean it needs to be 70 outside, because the shingles will warm from the sun.

So what can be done to install the roof below freezing? Well first, the roof should not be gun nailed below freezing. This is because the shingles become brittle and it's easier to "blow through" with your nails. It's also harder to regulate air pressure when it is cold, I speculate because of barometric pressures, but I am just guessing.  Therefore the roof should be hand nailed. This takes more time. Furthermore since the seal strips will not seal, they must be manually sealed with proper compatible adhesives. This will also take more time, and more material. I once spoke with a roofer in Alaska who builds tents around the houses he is working on and covers them with tarps and heats with propane heaters.  Now that takes real time!    The question is, are you prepared to pay for this extra time? Can you wait a few more weeks?

Roofing reviews in Bedford

Work was performed as scheduled (in fact they called to start a day early since rain was forecasted). Very responsive with getting an initial estimate and scheduling the work. Also was very responsive to emails when I had a couple of questions. Pricing was fair, work performed as promised, and terrific job in cleaning up the site afterwards. Roof was completed in one day and the gutters replaced the next. I noticed

Horrible experience...Back of the house is an A frame..shingles to the left were not straight and slanting down....shingles to the right slanting down also, but not as bad as the other side...called
Bedford Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
and he came out..first he said it looks straight to him...then he finally admitted it was not and said it was because I had closed corners where the roofs meet...I said then why is the right side straighter ?...he said ok what do you want..I said for the roof to be straight..he said ok and would come back to do it..but it was late fall and said ok we will fix it next year.
I then started to notice that the fascia (wooden part under the gutter) was starting to rot/paint pealing...in the corner on the right side and was just staring on the left...I thought is was the leaves in the gutter, so made sure they were always clean and even put a screen over it...problem continued. I then did research and found out it was because the drip
Bedford Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
was not installed correctly instead of running into the gutter..it was running behind it.
It is a weekend place, so called from out of town for him to look at it..he did and sent me a picture of a house with the same problem and did not call me direct but texted on my phone and said exact words "When you have gutters install over wood facia that happens")...could not believe it..keep text for my records.
I said , What?..I had a slate roof on my house for 53 years, gutters on a wooden fascia, no issues, and since you installed the roof this happens. Did not expect that response from him at all..thought he would say no problem we will fix it..not try to get out of it...and when I asked him when will he straighten the tiles he said he was booked this year.
I spoke with
Bedford Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
and they are looking into this matter since he is also listed as a preferred contractor with them. His last response was "whatever you would like".I responded that I would like him to stand behind his work and will be there 3 weeks in October to resolve this issue...I have not heard back from him yet as of this writing.
Telling me that the roof was not straight because I had closed corners, and also that this wood rot issue is because of gutters on a wooden fascia are complete untruths to put it kindly..and that is what has made me the most upset about this experience.
Hopefully they will read this review and respond by letting me know how to resolve this so that I can change it to a good review without filing a complaint with Angie's list or proceed further.

I was very happy with the entire process. The owner responded quickly to my Angie's List request for an estimate. He actually climbed on the roof and provided an immediate estimate. I was impressed with the folder of information and the fact that the owner is onsite for the project and actually does the work with his employees. The work was done in one day and looks great! I believe that the job was done well without cutting any corners. I would recommend

to family and friends.

Do yourself a favor...DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY !!! The only good thing I can say about this company is that they showed up on time. After that it all went downhill. The owner is the most UNPROFESSIONAL contractor I have ever seen. If I didn't experience it first-hand, I would not believe it. They arrived promptly at 7:30 am. The dumpster did not arrive until about 10:30 am so there was shingles and debris everywhere. There was plenty of profanity and they were very loud....who wants to listen to that first thing in the morning. My neighbors could hear everything. The owner of the company did nothing but bark orders at the crew....did nothing but stand there and watch. He left a couple times during the day & left before his crew was finished for the day. We had questions & called him several times and he never responded. He was supposed to come back & fix a pipe that was broke during the job and we havent seen him since. The crew left coffee cups, apple cores, pop bottles in the yard and we spent 3 days just cleaning up the yard after they left. We found nails, pieces of shingles, tar paper, staples. When they left for the day on day 2, they left the compressor plugged into our outlet in the house. We didnt even know they had left for the day. They left shingles and debris in our neighbors driveway which we had to clean up. The worst part of this experience was on the 3rd day....the owner and one of the crew were arguing over money...apparently the owner owed him for some supplies he paid for. We had to go out there and tell them it was not the time or place to be doing that. How embarrassing !! The siding had to be cleaned afterwards and we had to ask them to trim the shingles so they were uniform....one side was cut flush and the other side had an overhang. We should not have to tell them this. I WOULD NOT recommend this company to anyone.

The work could not have went any better. Very professional and the work crew was on time every day and gave updates either in person or by phone on the progress of the job. Execellent job and very happy with the work.

After making an appointment and taking time off work
Bedford Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
never showed up for appointment. His phone never allowed me to leave a message and every time I called office it went to voice mail. Not a

good way to run a business.
It's disappointing because I dealt with the owner

in past and had a good experience.

Bedford Roofing Contractors Provider Name Locked
and a fellow worker repaired an inside corner of the roof, replaced siding and shingles, and installed heating cable along a portion of roof line and gutters. Their work was excellent.

We bought a "roof exam" and minor caulking because of some leaking problems. The advice we got after the exam was helpful; although the leak could not be fixed, we were told that it would only be fixed with a tear off. The advice didn't come with a hard sell or an attempt to pretend to fix something that couldn't be fixed, which I appreciated.
