The bigger headache was the installation of our 3 backsplashes. We were told conflicting info on when the tiles arrived ("They're here!...oh no wait, they're not here, oh wait, the manufacturers lied to us about what they had in stock and we have to wait longer). It took over a month to get an appt scheduled after we ordered and PAID for the tiles. We were told it was hard to find good installers who would do such a small project. And like before, it took numerous calls on our part to get it scheduled. When we FINALLY got an appt set up while we were out of town (our realtor was kind enough to agree to meet the installers to let them in), NO ONE SHOWED UP. When we called MFD, they said they never received confirmation from us about the appt!!! They then scheduled us later that week on a Thursday WITHOUT ASKING US BEFOREHAND which did not work with our schedule. When the install finally occured, the installers told us it was definitely NOT a small job (despite MFD's claims previously) and took them the entire day to do. We also had other small issues after the fact w/ the quality of the install. In MFD's defense, the're project/site manager was very accomodating and kind in helping us fix the issues we had afterwards w/ the backsplash install (large scratches, broken electrical outlets, etc). He was the single redeeming part of the entire experience...which is sad when you think about it.
My realtor was so embarassed and appalled by MFD's customer service that she called them to complain and swore to never use their services again as it reflected poorly on her. We spent $15,000 on everything. I shudder to think how they treat customers who only make "small purchases."
And when removing carpet in one room, paint pulled away from the recently repainted baseboard. I don't know if that could have been prevented by running a box cutter blade along the
In any event, the carpet looks great, and feels great when we walk on it. And we plan to hire them next year to pull out the carpet in one the rooms on our first floor, and sand and refinish the floor in that room and our kitchen. Their salesman didn't oversell, and their staff was prompt, and except for the chipped paint, they did a great job. Overall, we're very satisfied.
